Reddit's r/opensource just banned AI projects, and not only AI-written code ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿค–

On Oct 24, 2026 the moderators posted new rules: if a project uses AI, is made by AI, or is for AI, it's not welcome (The Verge). The viral line: "Tokens are cheap, and we don't care how many you spent to make your amazing project."

Projects must also be about a year old with multiple contributors, and non-English speakers were told to find another community (The Verge, The Register). By Oct 26 the post had about 2,700 comments (The Next Web), and rival r/TrueOpenSource popped up.

Fair rule or overkill? ๐Ÿ‘‡
