On October 26, 2026, Apple announced a new iPad mini, which Apple calls the mini's biggest update ever, and shipped the 27.2 updates for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
iPad mini (per Apple's newsroom and MacRumors): 8.5-inch OLED (up from 8.3 in), up to 600 nits SDR and 1,200 nits HDR; A20 Pro, which Apple says is up to 60% faster CPU, 2.7x graphics and 4.5x AI vs the A17 Pro (128/256GB get a 5-core CPU, 512GB a 6-core CPU and dual Neural Engine, per MacRumors); IP67, a first for the mini; Acoustic Display with no speaker holes; about 15% thinner and lighter at 5.4 mm; landscape front camera; N1 with Wi-Fi 7; 50% charge in 30 min with a 35W+ adapter; optional nano-texture (+$100, 256/512GB).
What is missing: MacRumors notes Apple's specs do not mention ProMotion, so the display appears to stay at 60Hz. Colours: midnight and starlight only.
Price: from $699 (Wi-Fi) and $849 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) in the US, per Apple. MacRumors notes the previous mini launched at $499 in 2024 and rose to $599 in June, making this the second increase this year.
India: per Apple's India store and ET Now, from Rs 82,900 (Wi-Fi) and Rs 1,00,900 (Wi-Fi + Cellular). Apple India lists pre-orders from 10:40 PM IST on October 28, 2026 and availability from November 6.
iOS / iPadOS / macOS 27.2: Apple says Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of English (beta; needs an Apple Intelligence capable device; per Apple's release notes not available in the EU or mainland China). Release notes also list Siri memory, more personal sources, Excluded Apps, Suggestions in Messages and SynthID in Photos; Ars Technica says macOS 27.2 gets the same Siri memory and languages.
Security: according to 9to5Mac, Apple's security notes for these updates cover at least 329 unique vulnerabilities, including a CoreMedia camera-access flaw and several WebKit issues. 9to5Mac says the count may still rise.
How to update: iPhone/iPad: Settings, General, Software Update. Mac: Apple menu, System Settings, General, Software Update. Back up first and turn on automatic updates.
