A biotech company with one full-time employee is now part of Anthropic.
On October 27, 2026, Anthropic disclosed that it had acquired Mithril Medicine, a Cambridge, Massachusetts startup working on treatments for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. R&D World reports that the deal closed in July.
According to Anthropic, founder Cody Tranbarger used Claude to organize contracts, logistics and experiments with 11 external labs, and delegated many other parts of running the company to Claude. Anthropic says Mithril took a possible treatment for one form of muscular dystrophy from an idea to promising results in mice in less than 18 months.
It is early. R&D World notes that the accompanying technical report has not been peer reviewed, that the mouse study was small and not randomized, and that some errors made by Claude got past human review. Anthropic calls the setup "Pipeline-in-a-Person" and says human trials could start as soon as late 2028 if the drug candidates hold up.
