03:59so my information about the mood of the base is anecdotal i don't get the impression that
04:06there's a an overwhelming sense of glee that deshaun watson is going to be the starter on
04:12sunday and we know how it works with booing it doesn't take many people to boo to make it sound
04:16like everyone's booing and i have a feeling that it's not going to be a red carpet rolled out for
04:22deshaun watson based upon what we saw the first two weeks how do you think he looked in week two
04:28i mean he looked better and when your expectations are basically nil he he easily exceeded them and
04:36he did enough to get the win and he has the faith of todd munken i thought it was bizarre

04:42when he said the media expects him to throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns every week the media
04:46most definitely does not expect him to do that no one has expected him to do that any expectations he
04:52may be feeling along those lines come from the fact that he has failed woefully to earn his contract
04:58now that's not his fault that's the browns fault for paying him 46 million per year fully guaranteed
05:02but he's clearly not living up to that level but at this stage of his career i don't think anybody
05:07is reasonably expecting him to have a 400 yard five touchdown game it's just do enough to compliment
05:13the other players on the team and give the the browns collectively a chance to prevail in the
05:19one step that ever matters points scored and points allowed as determined at the end of each
05:25and every game how do you think todd munken's doing i personally i think todd was everything was kind of
05:31going on the right track he was he's kind of playing the political lines there making sure
05:35both guys had the opportunity and i think he had everything under control until deshaun decides he wants
05:42to spill his guts after that second preseason game and then the fans and and the city you know turn

05:48then he comes back todd's had a lot to deal with here since he first got here how do you

05:54look i like todd munken and i've spent some time with him i enjoy talking to him i think he

06:00there are two different people in this world there are the people who get it and the people who don't
06:03get it i think he gets it the problem is when you are thrust into what has been a dysfunctional
06:09organization ever since the haslams bought it and possibly before that
06:14it it it can happen very quickly that you get pulled into the same dysfunctional quicksand and
06:19you start saying things they get you criticized you start making decisions that get scrutinized and
06:26it can turn into a vortex that ultimately you end up being someone completely different than the person
06:33that you had been so last week for example the way he was talking about deshaun watson's performance
06:39against the jaguars and finding the silver lining if there was one that's something that fans are going to
06:45look at and say this guy doesn't get it even though he does get it so you know you become
06:50a pr voice to a
06:52certain extent and there's certain things you have to say publicly and those things sometimes can't properly
06:58be sold to the customers so that's the problem he's just been dealt a bad hand and he knew he

07:05getting a bad hand he walked up to that table knowing that it's blackjack and it's a bunch of
07:12threes and fours and sevens and whatever other cards are bad when you're playing blackjack i don't know

10:02sunday night game last year when jayden daniels in the game at a time when he shouldn't have been
10:07going for the end zone falls down and braces himself with his left hand and dislocates the elbow
10:13fast forward to sunday gets stepped on coming out of the center exchange falls down puts his left arm out
10:21and it looks identical so if you're falling down and you can't use your non-dominant hand to brace
10:28yourself without your elbow going out of joint that's a problem and that's the one to me that
10:35is different than stuff happens that speaks to he's got an issue with that elbow that they didn't
10:41properly address last year and he probably should have had surgery last year and now he's going to be
10:46faced with a tough decision because he's in his all-important third season trying to set up a market
10:51level contract you're not going to get the market level contract if you get elbow surgery and you're
10:56out for most of the year with that thought in mind and all the injuries baker mayfield cashed in good
11:04for him 165 million it to me it shows the importance of the position because i think tampa overpaid for
11:11him
11:11like crazy i wouldn't be surprised if they're regretting that right now but that's why these guys make so much
11:17money is it not well you only have so many opportunities to get paid and it's a highly
11:24marketable and unique skill set when you're talking about an nfl quarterback and the buccaneers were in
11:28a spot where if they didn't pay baker mayfield number one he's going to have a chip on his
11:34shoulder all year number two if he's got injuries he's going to be even less inclined to come out if
11:39he needs to come out because he's going to want to play and play through it and try to enhance
11:42his
11:43value and then number three who's your quarterback next year if you don't have baker mayfield what are
11:49you going to do so they felt like they had to pay him and look 55 million new money average
11:54on a
11:54three-year extension that's misleading because he was due to make 27 million this year you have to
11:59throw it all together it works out to something like 48 million a year which is not chump change but
12:07it's not 55 so they did what they thought was the right thing he's the quarterback they want to lead
12:12the team he's been a great transition from tom brady the problem is they got holes elsewhere on the
12:16roster and whatever it was that caused them to start falling apart last year has not been
12:22fundamentally addressed they fired the offensive coordinator they hired a new one the coach stayed
12:28something last year greased the skids from a six and two start melting into a two and seven finish
12:37and now it's two and nine since last year when they went into the bye week six and two and
12:43i i feel
12:45like it's on track for significant changes in tampa bay after this season and maybe during the season
12:52um let me ask you this going back to deshaun watson okay let's say deshaun plays okay right and
12:58they end up two and two through four games which is a possibility especially if they play like they did
13:02on sunday and then you know you got dylan gabriel coming back the browns are sitting on four
13:08quarterbacks then we talk about the injuries across the league is there any value for shador is there any
13:14value for gabriel i don't know about great i think they want to hang on to green just i just
13:18because
13:19they just drafted him but i what the the value of those two guys with other quarterbacks getting hurt
13:26and then the browns will be sitting on four quarterbacks moving forward after after week four
13:31i thought all along that dylan gabriel the falcons makes a ton of sense given the connection to kevin
13:37stefanski and how much stefanski liked him last year he ended up starting several games before week two
13:43i thought chances were we'd see gabriel by week 10 in cleveland i don't know what you do now i

13:51know what you do once gabriel's back and he returns from ir you're going to have to either find
13:58another injury to one of the other three guys and put him on ir or you're going to have to
14:03make this
14:03decision do we carry four quarterbacks which means one less spot available for the other positions on
14:09the team which can be problematic when it's time to address 48 guys on game day so they're going to
14:15have a decision to make once gabriel's elders of order return and they don't have to bring him back
14:21that's the thing they can leave him on ir and it's not as stringent as it used to be there
14:26was a time
14:27when they were concerned about teams stashing players on ir so if you went on ir you were done
14:34for the year you couldn't come back and now and this is a product of the pandemic now they can
14:40play all
14:40sorts of games this would be you know this is bill belichick's playground where you can stash players
14:45for a few weeks or as long as you want and they don't really have to be injured at that
14:49point and
14:50it doesn't matter and no one is pushing it so my guess would be they're going to park gabriel on

14:56until one of the other quarterbacks is injured or they get a trade offer for gabriel or someone else
15:03that they decide they want to take but for the team to have a surplus at quarterback this is a
15:09good
15:09development to start the season to have that many quarterbacks injured because you know sooner or
15:13later there's going to be an injury that forces someone to pick up the phone and it could be they
15:18call the browns you think anyone's calling for sanders i don't know i don't know uh i don't know
15:27would the falcons call for sand i think the falcons are more likely to call for gabriel and would the
15:33browns trade sanders i feel like we're going to see him at some point i mean do we really think
15:37that that the browns when thanksgiving rolls around are going to be in serious contention
15:44down the stretch and maybe they will and it would be great if it happens i've said many times
15:48cleveland fans deserve so much better than they've gotten and the door revolves at quarterback and coach
15:55and other positions and it's never going to revolve at ownership because you're stuck as jed york said
16:01ironically nine years ago you don't dismiss the owner well the owner can get himself into trouble
16:06but even then you don't get fired the east palestine misadventure you don't get fired for
16:12that you're the owner so that's the problem and you know maybe the browns can make it happen but i
16:18just feel like they're going to want to see what shader can do at some point this year and they're
16:22going to have decisions to make after this year and look do we really think that the starter in 2027
16:27is on the roster right now i don't and you know whether that means draft pick whether that means free
16:33agency whether that means trade i feel like somebody else is going to be starting week one of

17:20as it is a celebration of the fact that you've survived another year and you get to a point
17:26where and i'm actually older than todd monk and you get to a point where you just don't care anymore
17:33and let me tell you something that is liberating you got enough money to carry you through however
17:39long you're going to live who cares what happens i'm going to live my life i'm going to enjoy myself
17:45i'm going to do what i want to do and that can be a powerful thing when you're a head

18:21in bookstores all over the place the book is called accessory after the fact it is about a former
18:27football player presumably a former nfl player although i'm always concerned about getting sued
18:31by overusing the names of the teams he decides once his career is over he still thirst competition
18:37he goes to law school on his first day of work at a pittsburgh law firm
18:41he comes home and he finds a former teammate unbeknownst to the main character the former
18:47teammate had escaped from prison and everything goes haywire from there due to come out next july
18:55and will be available everywhere and the one thing i've learned about doing a deal with a publisher
19:00you got to go through this whole editing process which is very different from being in full control
19:05over your content and saying it's fine it's good let's post it now man a lot of i's to dot
