00:00that's interesting you know this had been a big talking point this uh this offseason and about
00:05what a distraction and what are they going to talk about and should munkin talk turns out it
00:10didn't seem like that big of a deal all i got is uh i got photos and video of dion
00:15uh should that
00:15was put out there that dion did decline media and said i said i'm not doing media i'm just here
00:21to
00:21watch that is uh you know this means something to him if he's declining media i did kind of wonder
00:27because we'll be out there tomorrow i wondered if dion was making this a two-day affair and whether
00:31or not we'd be like yo dion can you can you hop on and i i feel like you almost
00:35would please don't say
00:36yo dion well how else am i gonna approach dion i mean uh mr sanders i don't know mr sanders
00:43you
00:43don't seem like a yo guy mr sanders you don't feel like you're talking to the colonel you you don't
00:48you don't have like the joie de vivre to pull off a yo like when i go yo cuck man
00:52yeah no no that's
00:53different you know because your yo is almost ironic when you call to the cup anytime i scream
00:58to somebody from like more than three feet away it always starts with a yo yeah yo nick
01:02give me a bottle of water all right i'm i can't be are you guys hearing the same thing i'm
01:07hearing
01:07the meatloaf i don't think you're yo i don't think you're yo play what's wrong with my yo i just
01:12don't
01:12think it plays i just it's you're gifted in a lot of ways i don't think you're gifted in the
01:17ways of
01:19yo if i get some master accomplishment like there's a there's gotta have like a looseness
01:25uh a conversationalness yeah show me how it's done please no i i can't fake a yo so you know
01:32you're you're not you're not gifted in it either oh no i am i just oh you're not definitely not
01:36what do you mean fake it i just can't fake a yo you can fake a yo no no no
01:42you can't fake a yo
01:43i i can't fake a yo but i can give you a real yo if it's in the you know
01:48it's like the proper
01:49context i mean it's not that hard you just say yo and then someone say someone's name that's exactly
01:53why you can't it's not really hard sounds like a man that can't yo if you ever listen to me
01:58so i'd be like yo dion you want to come on want to get on the show a little bit
02:01and then dion would
02:02be like jonathan for you anything my friend yeah actually what he's gonna say anything for you my
02:05friend if you had just not yo'd me i would have come on the program is that you think that's
02:09exactly what he's gonna say yeah don't yo me if you don't know me you gotta remember
02:13remember your brand all right yeah what is my brand please tell me what my brand is maybe uh
02:18mr sanders yeah i really like him mr sanders he'll be really nice yeah yeah the orgies walk up and
02:27be
02:27like you got again you gotta just start compliment that is the nicest hoodie on that cowboy hat yeah i
02:37don't know what the deal is with the cowboy hat on fleek why is he wearing a cowboy he's been
02:40doing a
02:40cowboy hat for a long time i know and he pulls it off but like cowboy hats in northeast ohio
02:45you
02:45got to be a special breed ah but he's not normally in northeast ohio so he's by himself though he's
02:50just hanging out by himself did you want him to have like a an entourage some people but why yeah
02:56yeah i just feel like anyone like dion would just he would just travel with a lot of people the
03:00idea
03:00that he's by himself i find uh i didn't see coming let's put it that i just didn't see it
03:04coming
03:04so dion sanders that would be shador sanders father nice it's a real father finally got there
03:10and uh colorado's uh head coach was at practice today and uh todd munkin was asked about uh this
03:17blessed event uh forget that it's shador's dad i mean first of all he did an unbelievable job
03:21with shador great kid and obviously an elite football player held baseball player and uh and
03:27then as a coach i mean wow everything that he's achieved uh that was awesome i gotta say if you
03:33know dion likes him some flattery and if you know that people are going to take anything you say
03:38about dion at practice uh any which way it's a pretty flawless answer from my guy todd munkin
03:44it's about as well as you can do all things considered uh i i mean
03:50i i guess it'd be like a yo media let me tell you no he seemed a little starstruck uh
03:56-huh maybe but
03:56maybe that's the line you have to tell you have to give enough reverence to dion sanders even though
04:01isn't i think you might even be they're around the same age i think you can be stuck yeah i
04:04mean
04:05dion when when todd was like a ga at like a division two school dion was neon dion was dion
04:12exactly so i
04:12kind of don't i like i think it was a very deferential tone i think it's the right way to
04:16play this because again like if you if one syllable out of line and one half the country is going
04:22to take
04:22this to be a huge story like it's just the the sanders family is so polarizing for a vast number
04:29of
04:29reasons i thought he played that right now he did also give us the answer on whether dion gave
04:36todd munkin any advice on shadour he gave me a little bit of insight but we were up against it
04:42andrew berry was next so i had to give him up to andrew there was some back and forth as
04:47to being
04:48around shadour in terms of how he processes personality wise and i think competitive wise
04:53he got into it at the end you know in terms of what makes him tick when he's been around
04:57which was good
04:58it was all good but we've seen that most of what he said we've been able to see now we
05:03haven't gotten
05:03to games yet that that's a lot different animal but at this point what he talked about i would have
05:08said that's how i've seen it so quite frankly when this dion will todd munkin call him should
05:14should dion call todd munkin all that nonsense that was the off-season talk yeah where it's blown
05:20up into it uh the things that any reasonable person wanted to hear were can you give me insight
05:26on um you know on shadour as a competitor and how to best coach him and uh can you pay
05:33deference to
05:34dion instead of being maybe a little leery of his big personality and all the things that come
05:39with dion that's exactly what todd munkin did today i just think it proves that all that story that you
05:45both shot down and so many people try to do a whole week's worth of stories on it was all
05:50for not
05:51well and so here's the the other takeaway on this it's the idea that not only did dion feel
05:56comfortable and invited and welcomed to come and hang out and be a part of the practice the way that
06:01he is and have the conversation not only with munkin and andrew barry from munkin and andrew
06:05barry's standpoint it is it's much different than what we got with stefanski last year it just is
06:10this is more welcoming this is more and again you got to treat dion different i know people are
06:14to hear this and be like well does deshaun's dad get an opportunity and a chance to no deshaun's
06:18dad isn't dion freaking sanders okay like understand understand the moment for a second please and get
06:24the idea that like dion matters in this conversation and his insight and the bonding part of it can be
06:30a
06:31real thing and so i don't know it was very welcoming relative to what it was last year i like
06:35that people
06:35act like uh having a uh somebody's father at camp has to be like an equal time thing like it's
06:40political ads during november where if you're a republican you got to offer up the same amount
06:44to a democrat if you're a radio station yeah that that type of thing and it's like it's that's not
06:48what this is dion is in a a different world for a reason and yes does he does it help
06:52out your door
06:53the fact that he gets to speak to todd munkin and tell him what makes him tick sure it does
06:57but that's that's some of the the pleasantries that you offer up with dion sanders i also think you
07:02know if we think back to last year there was a lot of talk of you know and shador was
07:07asked a few
07:07times you know are you gonna have your dad come on out and he's like i don't want my dad
07:12to see me
07:12on the bottom of the depth chart i don't want him to see me i don't want to i don't
07:16want to have to
07:16like worry about him if i'm fighting and scratching for for everything i got that was like even once
07:22he was getting the starting job on his way to it so i also think the fact that shador felt
07:28comfortable
07:28to have his dad have his dad around is a good sign about where shador is that shador doesn't feel
07:33like this is going to be anything other than hey my dad stopped by and i think he's going to
07:38see
07:38that i'm and you notice how nobody has blown it on a proportion nobody has made it anything more than
07:42oh wow that's cool dion sanders is there which is what it should have been the entire time it should
07:46have always just been oh wow uh a walking legend decided he wanted to come over to northeast ohio
07:51and watch his son play football how sweet is that 216-474-0092 what does it mean that
07:57deon sanders showed up today uh these are good things like again i i do think that the
08:03i the football guyness of todd munkin i think is is continues to show something that i like
08:10and i thought andrew barry actually explained todd munkin in a really interesting way we'll get into
08:15the landman stuff later but just talking about his ability to be an old football guy that understands
08:20how to deal with 21 year old uh gentlemen from what you know two generations removed three
08:26generations removed from him and i think the handling of the deon stuff like again i like
08:32what we should all be looking for little signs that todd munkin knows what to do when i hear coach
08:37uh coach risland say um coach risland i like because his nickname's coach rich can you understand
08:43how that crosses my wires i heard it you got it between a little bit crosses my damn wires coach
08:48to be coach rise now uh but you can you can see when like coach risland says very detailed
08:55thought out well structured practice that's not something you know the the old comp for todd
09:00munkin well is it freddie kitchens we never said that about freddie kitchens right uh when it comes
09:05to hey do you have the tact to handle something that if you screw it up could be a big
09:11story i don't
09:12know that i trusted kevin with everything because kevin just wouldn't say anything about it and the
09:16story would grow because of his non-answers i todd munkin passed this test the deon sanders comes to
09:22camp test with flying colors yeah you notice how he didn't do anything that made it seem as if like
09:28i'm rolling out the red carpet for deon either i'm stopping the practice i'm going to move this
09:31around and change i'm going to move heaven and earth to make sure that deon gets a 45 minute
09:35interview no he's like we talked we were up against it i had other things i had to do and
09:39so i was going
09:39to go give him off to andrew berry like that that is the right amount of balance that you need
09:44to have
09:44in this and i i do think it's it's it's really good i'm very impressed with todd munkin early on
09:48i am
09:48i don't know if it's going to mean anything when it comes to week one and if you can actually
09:52coach
09:52a football team but some of the horror stories when people think back about 2019 a lot of that
09:56was freddy kitchens clearly and a lot of that was todd munkin just giving up on the idea of like
10:00okay
10:01this season isn't going to be it but the way he was you know portrayed was as a disorganized and
10:06couldn't get anything together and it was just a complete mess of a human essentially i don't know
10:11if georgia got him in line i don't know if john harbaugh got him in line but something clicked
10:15for munkin and this is much different than when he was first here well and so you know you you
10:19made
10:19the comparison to freddy kitchens i'll also say you knew like three weeks into hugh jackson's camp
10:24oh boy we're in for it now there was still the they're not going to try and win so not
10:30it wasn't
10:30made a big deal of but like there were warning signs with hugh even before they got to camp there
10:35were warning signs with pat shirmer even before they got to camp different warning signs by the way
10:40but you just you're again you're constantly looking for the little signs about how things
10:47are doing now i don't know if we should play this next piece of sound because we are already being
10:51pigeonholed as the shador show on the station now in fairness my choices are shador versus deshawn
10:58this might be a much tougher thing for me if i'm choosing between shador and kyler murray or even
11:04shador and geno smith i'd probably still lean shador in that last one but i i we might be
11:10full-blown exposing the fact that we just have no interest in deshawn watson other than the fact
11:14i thought we weren't yeah i thought we weren't shy about that i thought that was like i'm thinking do
11:19we have to give equal time the six month bit i thought was the idea that we're just not interested
11:23in deshawn and we're interested in shador and now in the past like week or so it seems like
11:2780 percent of browns fans have come over to that side you're right let's go ahead and just blow
11:30the doors off on this baby uh chase daniel remember him diana diana what are we doing
11:37diana stay away from freeball diana you're in trouble now this will cost you your job but not
11:42him his job diana diana he was on the dan patrick show and talked about uh some of the good
11:49word
11:49he's hearing about shador sanders i think shador sanders has done a really good job of growing from
11:55year one to year two i never judge rookie quarterbacks because quarterback play is so
12:01difficult now there were some dumb mistakes that shador made last year he'd be the first one to tell
12:05you if you can play within that scheme they're going to scheme some stuff up and not make stupid
12:11mistakes he has to play a lot faster i think that's really where the biggest jump from first to second
12:15year quarterbacks is processing speed can he get his processing speed when he breaks the huddle up
12:20it's going to be a fascinating thing but i think shador sort of has the inside track of the job
12:25i mean
12:25look the browns have two first round picks next year let's be honest they're going after arch
12:29manning or dante moore if you don't get really good quarterback play out of shador i don't think there's
12:33any chance even if deshaun plays at a pro bowl level he's going to be back there i like shador
12:37in this battle so what's interesting is now two days into camp we are hearing a fair amount of
12:43national analysts saying hey i'm hearing really good things about shador's development the tide
12:48is starting to turn and it doesn't mean that it's going to continue to go that way but the tide
12:52is
12:52starting to turn nick that's a good thing we like when the tide turns in our favor i also i
12:57don't think
12:57chase daniel's being 100 honest with the idea of i don't judge i don't judge rookie quarterbacks you had
13:02like 75 hours of breakdown of shador film last year what do you mean you don't you don't judge
13:06rookie quarterbacks no that was he was observing is that what that was not judgment okay yeah yeah
13:11big difference big difference yeah
