00:00Daryl, how's it going?
00:02What's happening, guys?
00:03Hopefully that field isn't a cow pasture this morning after that game last night.
00:08Yeah, Daryl, I wanted to ask you about that because this doesn't happen very much
00:12where Pitt football had a night game followed up by a Steeler 1 o'clock game.
00:18They're obviously sharing that facility there at Accresure, formerly known as Heinz Field.
00:24Hopefully the field's not torn up from last night.
00:27Well, I mean, it is a brand-new field, but brand-new fields get chewed up in a hurry.
00:33So I guess it's only been in for two weeks.
00:36Oh, wow.
00:37Yeah, and so, yeah, it'll hold up for one game, but when you play two games on it in less
00:43than 24 hours,
00:45I don't care how new the field is, it's not going to hold up.
00:48So as Browns players said this week, they got to play on it too.
00:54You know, Grant Delpit said this week, the grass sucks.
00:57We all know that.
00:58I guess that's why they've lost 22 straight in the regular season down there.
01:03But, you know, the field conditions would be just, you know, part of the challenge for the Browns this afternoon.
01:11Daryl, let's get a little bit into the game, but I want to start with a lot of the, obviously,
01:16things happening around the game.
01:17It's obviously a big game at the forefront for what it means for both of these teams.
01:20It's a big game for the Browns for what it means historically.
01:23Right.
01:24Jared first adding a little fuel to the fire.
01:26Was that a mistake?
01:28Like, inside that locker room, the guys love this.
01:30Todd liking this, you think?
01:32Or is this one where Jared's maybe, I don't know, just speaking out of turn a little bit and adding
01:37fuel that didn't need to be added?
01:38I really didn't have a problem with anything that Jared first said.
01:42The Cam Hayward comment, you know, I'm not worried about Cam or anyone on their team.
01:47He was responding to a question about Cam Hayward's comments on the Rich Eisen show.
01:55So, you know, I kind of feel like that, you know, the context of the response totally got lost.
02:03And it turned into Jared versus, you know, calling out the Steelers and all that.
02:10And that really wasn't what happened.
02:13I had no issue with anything he had to say.
02:16In fact, I kind of liked it.
02:18I think it's about time the Browns have that type of attitude when it comes to this rivalry.
02:25And, you know, now they just got to go down and back it up a little bit.
02:29You know, that's all.
02:30You just go down, you handle your business, you go win the game.
02:33It's that simple.
02:34But I don't think that, you know, Jared said anything that was out of line or bulletin board material or
02:43anything like that.
02:44Just saying, I ain't worried about whatever those guys are talking about down there.
02:48Who cares?
02:48We remember what happened in the first game.
02:50I remember some of the extracurricular stuff that I wasn't very fond of that I'm not going to get into
02:55any specifics about what took place.
02:57I remember it.
02:58And we're going to handle it on the field like men.
03:01And so, okay, fine.
03:03Go out and handle it like men today and win the football game.
03:06Darrell, that was my take as well.
03:07I didn't mind verse this week.
03:09I think it adds to the matchup.
03:11I think it adds to the rivalry.
03:12And I honestly don't mind somebody standing up kind of to a team that's been big brother, at least in
03:18the regular season, in that stadium against the Cleveland Browns.
03:22But, Darrell, with that said, in my opinion, this feels like one of the best chances that the Browns have
03:28had in really recent memory to go into that building and to get a huge win.
03:33You know, Jake and I were kind of poking fun at, you know, last year on the pregame show when
03:36we did our quarterback comparison.
03:38It was Gabriel versus Aaron Rodgers in that game.
03:41And you just knew that the Browns were going to have a really tough time trying to, you know, snap
03:46the then 21-game streak in the regular season in that building.
03:51It feels like the Browns just have a really good shot at doing it today.
03:54Yeah, I would agree with you.
03:57I think this is your best chance to win in Pittsburgh in a long time outside of, obviously, the January
04:032021 playoff game, which they did win.
04:05But, you know, in the regular season, it's just been, you know, a house of horrors for them.
04:10It's just a nightmare going down there.
04:12Thankfully, Halloween was yesterday and not today.
04:16Got that out of the way.
04:18But, yeah, I mean, you know, from a talent perspective, this is, you know, this is one of the better
04:23football teams the Browns have had.
04:25You know, from a quarterback play perspective, Deshaun Watson hasn't been great by any stretch of the imagination.
04:31But he's, except for the fourth quarter, he's been great in the fourth quarter.
04:35He's one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League from a metric standpoint in the fourth quarter.
04:40He's got five game-winning drives in the fourth quarter.
04:43Now we just need to see some of that in quarters one through three.
04:46And we need to see them not having to play from behind all the time, right?
04:51And that's probably the one thing.
04:52I don't think that the playing from behind thing bit today is going to work, okay?
04:56That's like the one stadium on this planet.
04:58That's just not going to work for the Browns.
05:00You know, they cannot afford to get out to a 14-0 deficit like they did last week and expect
05:07to win.
05:08You're not playing the Tennessee Titans.
05:09You're playing Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
05:12They've shown the ability to get after Aaron.
05:14They sacked him five times in the first game.
05:16They hit him multiple other times and got pressure on him, got him off schedule a bit.
05:20Yeah, I know Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdowns in that first game.
05:23But you were able to win that game.
05:28Again, one of your five wins was against Pittsburgh on that Thursday night in the closing seconds of that football
05:35game, right?
05:35So, you know, but yeah, I do feel confident.
05:41I picked him to win this game, you know, but I do feel confident about them being able to go
05:47down there and win in a place that, quite frankly, they just have not been able to win in during
05:53the regular season.
05:55So, you know, the talk is cheap or whatever, and they just got to go out there and do it.
06:00They've got the talent to do it.
06:01There's no question about it.
06:02And I think, look, they got the coach to help them do it.
06:05Todd Munkins won in Pittsburgh before with the Baltimore Ravens.
06:08So he, you know, he knows what that feels like.
06:12So, you know, I don't think that we needed Todd to get in front of cameras and microphones this week
06:18and give some impassioned speech about this game.
06:22And unfortunately, I do think that that's something Browns fans were looking for from him this week.
06:28I think after the game, after the game, Daryl, it could be cinema if the Browns find a way to
06:32get a win.
06:33Yeah, like, you know, but like, and I think some fans will go, Todd just doesn't understand Browns Steelers.
06:39No, Todd understands Browns Steelers, okay?
06:41He understands Ravens Steelers.
06:43Like, he understands the importance of beating the Pittsburgh Steelers, okay?
06:46He just doesn't need to get up in front of the cameras and microphones and make a big deal of
06:50it.
06:51You want your, because here's the thing.
06:54The bet, you always hear this from players when they talk about, in regards to sport, whether it's the NBA,
07:00Major League Baseball, NFL.
07:02Players always talk about the best coaches and the best players being the same guy every day, right?
07:07And they don't get too high, don't get too low.
07:11And that cliche stuff really bores fans, and quite frankly, it bores me at times, too.
07:16But that is reality.
07:18That is truth, okay?
07:20And Todd Munkin is being Todd Munkin this week.
07:23He's not making more of this game than any other game.
07:26And, you know, when players talk about it being the next game on their schedule,
07:31like, that's the mentality you have to have.
07:33Yeah, sure, you go in knowing what's at stake.
07:36You go in knowing the history in Pittsburgh and how bad it's been for the Browns and all those things.
07:43But it has no impact on the outcome of the game today.
07:45What has an impact on the outcome of the game today, did you hit your blocking assignments?
07:50Did you hit your pass rush lanes?
07:51Did you catch the football when it was thrown to you?
07:53Did you hit the right hole when you're running the ball?
07:55Did you hang on to the ball?
07:56Did you make good decisions throwing the ball?
07:58Those are the things that win or lose the football game today, right?
08:04And so I think Todd Munkin showing that very even keel, level-headed,
08:09hey, yep, next game on the schedule.
08:11We, you know, don't worry about the history.
08:13It has no impact on us.
08:15Like, all that stuff.
08:16You walk out to practice and the first damn song you heard this week was Renegade.
08:19And you're going to sit there and tell me Todd Munkin don't know what Brown Steelers means this week?
08:24Come on now.
08:25Yeah, Darrell, I think he's got it in the bag.
08:26All right, you've got to condense this.
08:28You've only got one minute.
08:29But, Darrell, I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you what you thought of Ohio State last night.
08:34Yeah, I don't think we have enough time.
08:37And I don't know if I can keep it clean enough.
08:40I said a lot of bad words at my television watching that game last night.
08:45Yeah, just, hey, shocking.
08:47Ryan Day laid another egg.
08:49What else is there?
08:50They're 6-4 with all the talent that they bring in, all the talent they produce.
08:54They're 6-4 in their last 10 games.
08:56Oh, should I remind you they also blew a 21-point fourth-quarter lead to Texas this year?
09:01Should I remind you his record against Michigan?
09:04Should I remind you his record in big games?
09:07Yeah, he's lucky he won that national championship, and everyone's acting like that gave him a blank check.
09:12Not a good head coach.
09:14And the sooner people realize that, the better.
09:16Also, by the way, they really miss Brian Hartline on that staff, too.
09:20Yeah, they do.
09:21And that kid last night, by the way, did not play bad.
09:23I didn't think it was horrible.
09:25That was a tough spot for him to be in.
09:28They could have won that game with some better coaching.
09:31You think there's a chance he gets fired after this year, Daryl?
09:34Well, we'll see how the rest of this season goes.
09:37Got to land the plane first.
09:40But that was absolutely awful.
09:43He lost to Lincoln Riley.
09:44Like, that is a seminal win for Lincoln Riley.
09:49Like, oh!
09:50You walked down the field, down multiple scores, right?
09:55Took your time.
09:56And then you went for two when a PAT would have made it a one-possession game.
10:00Like, what are we doing?
10:01Have you coached football before?
10:03It was a methodical four-minute drive that killed so much precious time for you.
10:08You work for an institution of higher learning.
10:11Do you not understand mathematics?
10:16Good God.
10:17Yeah, so that's my PG version of what I thought of last night's game.
10:21Like it, Daryl.
10:22We got to bounce.
10:23Always appreciate you setting aside the time.
10:26Daryl, hopefully we get a good one.
10:27And potentially talking about another AFC North leading at Cleveland Browns sitting at 6-2.
10:34When we talk later this week.
10:35Thank God Ryan Day's not coaching the Browns today.
10:39Yeah, I can second that one.
10:40Thanks, Daryl.
10:41You bad guys enjoyed the game this afternoon.
