00:01Hi there. The weather remains highly mixed across the UK, both from place to place and from day to day
00:05at the moment.
00:06That's because we are currently at the end of this great big weather conveyor belt lying above the Atlantic,
00:12otherwise known as the Jetstream, currently running at 135 miles an hour,
00:16sending these systems in relatively quickly so they're not lasting for any particular length of time.
00:22That will mitigate against high rainfall totals.
00:25I think the rain turning heavy and persistent over western hills of Scotland, Northern England and North Wales, 30 to
00:3140 millimetres.
00:33Otherwise, it's on and off rain for Northern Ireland, much as Scotland, Western England and Wales.
00:38A lot of cloud, low cloud in places, keeping it damp and dull.
00:44Brighter skies remain in the east of England, where it's going to be relatively warm.
00:49Temperatures reaching in some of the sunnier spots, 22, perhaps 23 Celsius.
00:54Mid to high teens further north and west and feeling cool because, of course, of the thick cloud and the
01:01outbreaks of rain,
01:02as well as a strong wind, which is strengthening through the day, gusting particularly over the Pennines, over the Scottish
01:08mountains.
01:10Now, those strong winds will push the weather fronts through quickly and the rain turning more on and off overnight.
01:16Patchy outbreaks of rain, increasingly showery, affecting much of Wales, in particular northern England,
01:22and then more scattered showers into the north and west of Scotland, northern and western Northern Ireland,
01:26accompanied again by gusty winds.
01:27In between, some clear spells, some clear spells as well in the south and southeast.
01:32In the south, it's relatively mild.
01:34Temperatures holding up in the teens.
01:36Further north, single figures, where we've got some shelter from the breeze and clear spells.
01:42It is a blustery start to the day on Saturday for many places.
01:46Cloudy for England and Wales.
01:47Outbreaks of rain spilling south, brightening skies to the north of south Wales and to the Midlands,
01:53east Anglia for a time.
01:54And we'll see some sunshine in between the showers for northern England and Scotland.
01:58Fewer showers by the afternoon for Northern Ireland, but it's gusty for many parts of the UK,
02:03making it feel cool in the north.
02:05Warmer towards the southeast, where we've got some sunshine.
02:08In fact, temperatures a degree or two higher compared with Friday.
02:12But it's not so sunny in the southwest.
02:15Here, cloud thickening into the afternoon, some more persistent rain arriving.
02:19And that lingers, heaviest over the likes of Exmoor, Dartmoor, but patchy elsewhere,
02:25creeping along southern counties of England and continuing for much of Saturday night.
02:29In fact, it's there as we begin things on Sunday.
02:31Not for long, though.
02:32It does push south.
02:34And then skies brighten for much of England and Wales, mostly a dry day.
02:37Northern Ireland also, bright spells and largely dry.
02:41Showers for northern and western Scotland, easing into the afternoon.
02:44So for many parts of the UK, Sunday is a respite between weather systems.
02:50Plenty of sunshine, winds easing.
02:52Feeling pleasant enough, but temperature's a little bit cooler
02:55because we're into a cooler air mass with winds coming from the west.
02:58And then we've got this next weather front moving in for the end of the day.
03:02That's going to bring some patchy rain.
03:03But it's a warm front and that does introduce a change in the weather for early next week.
03:09It's going to turn warmer, drier, sunnier in some places.
03:13And also we've got high pressure dominating things for the first half of next week.
03:18So a return to more settled weather and well above average temperatures.
