00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 108
05:00I am determined, O God.
05:02I will sing and praise you with my whole heart.
05:07Awake, O stringed instrument and harp.
05:09I will wake up at dawn.
05:12I will give you thanks before the nations, O Lord.
05:15I will sing praises to you before foreigners.
05:19For your loyal love extends beyond the sky, and your faithfulness reaches the clouds.
05:27Rise up above the sky, O God.
05:29May your splendour cover the whole earth.
05:33Deliver by your power and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe.
05:39God has spoken in his sanctuary.
05:43I will triumph.
05:44I will parcel out Shechem.
05:46The valley of Succoth I will measure off.
05:49Gilead belongs to me as does Manasseh.
05:53Ephraim is my helmet.
05:55Judah my royal sceptre.
05:58Moab is my washbasin.
06:00I will make Edom serve me.
06:01I will shout in triumph over Philistia.
06:05Who will lead me into the fortified city?
06:09Who will bring me to Edom?
06:12Have you not rejected us, O God?
06:15O God, you do not go into battle with our armies.
06:22Give us help against the enemy, for any help men might offer is futile.
06:29By God's power we will conquer.
06:31He will trample down our enemies.
06:35Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:40as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
06:44world without end.
06:46Amen.
06:52Psalm 109
06:58O God, whom I praise, do not ignore me,
07:01for they say cruel and deceptive things to me.
07:04They lie to me.
07:06They surround me and say hateful things.
07:09They attack me for no reason.
07:12They repay my love with accusations,
07:15but I continue to pray.
07:17They repay me evil for good and hateful love.
07:23Appoint an evil man to testify against him.
07:26May an accuser stand at his right side.
07:28When he is judged, he will be found guilty.
07:32Then his prayer will be regarded as sinful.
07:36May his days be few.
07:38May another take his job.
07:40May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
07:45May his children roam around begging, asking for handouts,
07:49as they leave their ruined home.
07:52May the creditor seize all he owns.
07:56May strangers loot his property.
08:00May no one show him kindness.
08:02May no one have compassion on his fatherless children.
08:07May his descendants be cut off.
08:09May the memory of them be wiped out by the time the next generation arrives.
08:16May his ancestors' sins be remembered by the Lord.
08:20May his mother's sin not be forgotten.
08:24May the Lord be constantly aware of them,
08:27and cut off the memory of his children from the earth.
08:32For he never bothered to show kindness.
08:34He harassed the oppressed and the needy,
08:37and killed the disheartened.
08:40He loved to curse others,
08:42so those curses have come back upon him.
08:45He had no desire to bless anyone,
08:47so he has experienced no blessings.
08:51He has made cursing a way of life,
08:54so curses poured into his stomach like water,
08:57and seeped into his bones like oil.
09:01May a curse attach itself to him,
09:03like a garment one puts on,
09:06or a belt one wears continually.
09:10May the Lord repay my accusers in this way,
09:13those who say evil things about me.
09:17O Sovereign Lord, intervene on my behalf
09:20for the sake of your reputation.
09:23Because your loyal love is good, deliver me.
09:26For I am oppressed and needy,
09:29and my heart beats violently within me.
09:33I am fading away like a shadow at the end of the day.
09:36I am shaken off like a locust.
09:40I am so starved, my knees shake.
09:43I have turned into skin and bones.
09:46I am disdained by them.
09:48When they see me, they shake their heads.
09:51Help me, O Lord, my God,
09:54because you are faithful to me, deliver me.
09:57Then they will realize this is your work,
10:00and that you, Lord, have accomplished it.
10:03They curse, but you will bless.
10:05When they attack, they will be humiliated,
10:08but your servant will rejoice.
10:11My accusers will be covered with shame,
10:14and draped in humiliation as if it were a robe.
10:18I will thank the Lord profusely.
10:21In the middle of a crowd, I will praise him,
10:23because he stands at the right hand of the needy,
10:26to deliver him from those who threaten his life.
10:31Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
10:33and to the Holy Spirit,
10:35as it was in the beginning,
10:37is now, and ever shall be,
10:40world without end.
10:42Amen.
10:50The Prophet Jeremiah, Chapter 36
10:56In the fourth year of Jehoiakim,
10:58the son of Josiah, king of Judah,
11:00this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
11:04Take a scroll of a book,
11:06and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you
11:09against Israel, against Judah,
11:13and against all the nations,
11:15from the day I spoke to you.
11:17From the days of Josiah, even up until today.
11:21It may be that the house of Judah will hear of all the evil
11:25which I intend to do to them,
11:27that they may each return from his evil way,
11:30that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
11:36So Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah,
11:39and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah
11:42all of Yahweh's words,
11:44which he had spoken to him,
11:46of the scroll of a book.
11:50Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying,
11:52I am restricted.
11:54I cannot go into Yahweh's house,
11:57and therefore you must go and read from the scroll
12:00which you have written from my mouth,
12:02Yahweh's words,
12:03in the ears of the people in Yahweh's house
12:06on the fast day.
12:08And you shall read them in the ears of all of Judah
12:12who come out of their cities.
12:14It may be that they will present their supplication
12:18before Yahweh,
12:19and will return each from his evil way.
12:23For Yahweh has pronounced great anger
12:25and wrath against his people.
12:29Baruch, the son of Neriah,
12:32did according to all that Jeremiah,
12:34the prophet, had commanded him,
12:36reading the book of Yahweh's words
12:38in Yahweh's house.
12:42Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim,
12:45the son of Josiah, king of Judah,
12:47in the ninth month,
12:48all the people in Jerusalem
12:50and all the people
12:50who could come from the cities of Judah
12:53to go to Jerusalem,
12:55proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.
12:58And then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah
13:01from the book in Yahweh's house,
13:04in the room of Gemariah,
13:06the son of Shaphant, the scribe,
13:07in the upper court,
13:09at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh's house,
13:13in all the ears of the people.
13:18When Micaiah, the son of Jeremiah,
13:21the son of Shaphant,
13:23had heard out of the book
13:24all of Yahweh's words,
13:26he went down to the king's house
13:28and into the scribe's room.
13:31And behold, all the princes were sitting there.
13:35Elishamah, the scribe,
13:37Deliah, the son of Shemaiah,
13:39Elnathan, the son of Achbor,
13:41Jeremiah, the son of Shaphant,
13:44Zedekiah, the son of Hananiah,
13:45and all the princes.
13:48Then Micaiah repeated to them
13:50all the words he had heard
13:51when Baruch had read the book
13:54to the ears of the people.
13:58Therefore all the princes
13:59sent to Jehudi,
14:01the son of Nethaniah,
14:03the son of Shalamiah,
14:04son of Cushi,
14:05to Baruch, saying,
14:06Take in your hand the scroll
14:08which you have read
14:10in the ears of the people
14:11and come.
14:14So Baruch, the son of Nereah,
14:17took the scroll in his hand
14:19and came to them.
14:20They said to him,
14:22Sit down and read in our hearing.
14:27So Baruch read it in their hearing.
14:30And when they had heard all the words,
14:33they turned in fear one to the other
14:35and said to Baruch,
14:36We will surely tell the king
14:38of all these words.
14:43They asked Baruch, saying,
14:45Tell us now,
14:46how did you write all these words
14:49at his mouth?
14:51Then Baruch answered,
14:53He dictated all these words
14:55to me with his mouth
14:56and I'll break them with ink
14:58in the book.
15:01Then the princes said to Baruch,
15:03You and Jeremiah
15:05must go and hide.
15:07Don't let anyone know
15:08where you are.
15:11And they went into the king,
15:13into the court.
15:14But they had laid up the scroll
15:16in the room of Elishamah the scribe.
15:22Then they told all the words
15:23in the hearing of the king.
15:25And the king sent Jehudi
15:27to get the scroll.
15:28And he took it out of the room
15:30of Elishamah the scribe.
15:34Jehudi read it
15:35in the hearing of the king
15:37and in the hearing of all the princes
15:39who stood beside the king.
15:43Now the king was sitting
15:45in the winter house
15:46in the ninth month
15:47and there was a fire
15:48in the brazier burning before him.
15:52After Jehudi had read
15:54three or four pages,
15:55the king cut it
15:57with his penknife
15:58and cast it into the fire
15:59that was in the brazier
16:01until all the scroll
16:03was consumed in the fire
16:04that was in the brazier.
16:06The king and all his servants
16:09who heard all the words
16:10were not afraid
16:11and did not tear their garments.
16:16Moreover, Elmathan
16:17and Deliah and Gemariah
16:19had made intercession
16:20to the king
16:21that he would not burn the scroll
16:23but he refused to listen to them.
16:29The king commanded
16:30Jeremiel the king's son
16:32and Sariah the son of Azrael
16:34and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel
16:36to arrest Baruch the scribe
16:39and Jeremiah the prophet
16:40but Yahweh hid them.
16:45Then Yahweh's word came to Jeremiah
16:47after the king had burnt the scroll
16:50and the words which Baruch wrote
16:52at the mouth of Jeremiah
16:54saying,
16:55Take again another scroll
16:57and write in it
16:58all the former words
16:59that were in the first scroll
17:01which Jehoiakim
17:03the king of Judah
17:04has burnt.
17:06Concerning Jehoiakim
17:07king of Judah
17:08you shall say,
17:10Yahweh says
17:10you have burnt this scroll
17:12saying,
17:13Why have you written therein
17:14saying,
17:15The king of Babylon
17:16will certainly come
17:17and destroy the land
17:18and will cause to cease
17:20from there
17:21man and animal.
17:24Therefore Yahweh says
17:25concerning Jehoiakim
17:27king of Judah
17:28he will have no one
17:29to sit on David's throne
17:31his dead body
17:32will be cast out
17:33in the day to the heat
17:34and in the night
17:35to the frost.
17:37I will punish him
17:38his offspring
17:40and his servants
17:41for their iniquity.
17:42I will bring upon them
17:44on the inhabitants
17:45of Jerusalem
17:46and on the men of Judah
17:47all the evil
17:48that I have pronounced
17:50against them
17:50but they did not listen.
17:54Then Jeremiah
17:55took another scroll
17:56and gave it to Baruch
17:58the son of Neriah
17:59who wrote in it
18:01from the mouth of Jeremiah
18:02all the words of the book
18:04which Jehoiakim
18:05king of Judah
18:06had burnt in the fire
18:08and many similar words
18:10were added to them.
18:13This is the word of the Lord.
18:16Thanks be to God.
18:30Mary said
18:31My soul exalts the Lord
18:34and my spirit
18:36has begun to rejoice
18:37in God my Saviour
18:39because he has looked
18:41upon the humble state
18:42of his servant.
18:45For from now on
18:46all generations
18:47will call me blessed
18:48because he who is mighty
18:51has done great things
18:52for me
18:53and holy is his name.
18:56From generation
18:57to generation
18:58he is merciful
18:59to those who fear him.
19:02He has demonstrated
19:03power with his arm.
19:06He has scattered
19:07those whose pride
19:08wells up
19:09from the sheer arrogance
19:10of their hearts.
19:12He has brought down
19:13the mighty
19:14from their thrones
19:15and has lifted up
19:16those of lowly position.
19:18He has filled
19:19the hungry
19:20with good things
19:21and has sent
19:22the rich away empty.
19:25He has helped
19:26his servant Israel
19:27remembering his mercy
19:29as he promised
19:30to our ancestors
19:32to Abraham
19:33and to his descendants
19:35for ever.
19:38Glory be to the Father
19:39and to the Son
19:40and to the Holy Spirit
19:41as it was in the beginning
19:44is now
19:45and ever shall be
19:46world without end.
19:49Amen.
19:55The Gospel according to
19:57Saint Matthew
19:58chapter 27
20:02Then Pilate's armed men
20:04took Jesus
20:05into the open square
20:06and got all the rest
20:08of their band together.
20:10They took off his clothes
20:11and put on him
20:12a red robe.
20:13They made a crown of thorns
20:15and put it on his head
20:16and put a rod
20:17in his right hand
20:18and went down
20:20on their knees
20:20before him
20:21making sport of him
20:22saying
20:23Long life to the king
20:25of the Jews
20:26They shamed him
20:27and gave him blows
20:29on the head
20:29with the rod
20:31and when they had
20:32made sport of him
20:33they took the robe
20:34off him
20:34and put his clothing
20:35back on him
20:37taking him away
20:38to put him
20:39on the cross
20:42and while they were
20:42coming out
20:43they saw a man
20:44of Cyrene
20:44Simon by name
20:45and then made him
20:47go with them
20:47that he might
20:48take up the cross
20:51and when they came
20:52to the place
20:52named Golgotha
20:53that is
20:54the dead man's head
20:56they gave him wine
20:58mixed with bitter drink
20:59and after tasting it
21:01he took no more
21:03When they had put him
21:05on the cross
21:05they made a division
21:06of his clothing
21:07amongst them
21:08by the decision of chance
21:09and they were seated
21:11there watching him
21:13They put up
21:14over his head
21:15the statement
21:16of his crime
21:17in writing
21:18This is Jesus
21:19the king of the Jews
21:22Then
21:22two thieves
21:23were putting
21:24on crosses
21:25with him
21:25one to the right
21:27and one to the left
21:30Those who went by
21:32said bitter words
21:33to him
21:33shaking their heads
21:34and saying
21:35You who would give
21:36the temple
21:37to destruction
21:37and put it up again
21:39in three days
21:40Set yourself free
21:42If you are the
21:43son of God
21:44come down
21:44from the cross
21:47In the same way
21:48the chief priests
21:49making sport of him
21:51with the scribes
21:52and the other authorities
21:53said
21:53A saviour of others
21:55he has no salvation
21:57for himself
21:59If he is the king
22:00of Israel
22:01let him come down
22:02from the cross
22:03and we will believe
22:03in him
22:05He put his faith
22:07in God
22:07Let God be
22:08his saviour now
22:09if he will have him
22:10For he said
22:12I am the son
22:13of God
22:15And the thieves
22:16who were on the crosses
22:17also said evil
22:18words to him
22:22Now from about
22:23the sixth hour
22:24it was dark
22:25all over the land
22:26until the ninth hour
22:28At around the ninth hour
22:30Jesus gave out
22:31a loud cry
22:32saying
22:33Eli, Eli
22:34Lama Sabachthani
22:37That is
22:38My God
22:39My God
22:40Why are you
22:41turned from me?
22:44Some of those
22:45who were nearby
22:46hearing it
22:46said
22:47This man is crying out
22:49to Elijah
22:51And straight away
22:52one of them
22:52went quickly
22:53and gave him
22:54a sponge
22:55made full of
22:56bitter wine
22:57putting it on a rod
22:59and giving it to him
23:00to drink
23:02The others said
23:04Let him be
23:05Let us see
23:06if Elijah
23:07will come to his help
23:11Jesus gave another
23:12loud cry
23:13and gave up
23:14his spirit
23:16The curtain
23:17of the temple
23:17was parted in two
