00:14Thanks.
00:15From that first moto. Track going to be a lot
00:17different than where it was an hour ago.
00:19Yeah, it's going to be different,
00:21but if I'm Sasha, I mean, I could ride on anything,
00:23but really, it starts right here. You've got to get through
00:25these first 100 yards.
00:27So critical right now between Davies
00:29and the 37 and the 47
00:31of Kitchen as momentum in this championship
00:34keeps switching. Joe Shimoda,
00:36the championship leader, entering today
00:37out with a broken collarbone from
00:39qualifying. So it is very much
00:42up for grabs. Momentum points,
00:43you name it. And this
00:45is going to be a big step right here.
00:50250 moto two.
00:52Rebs are up.
00:54Gates down.
00:58Sasha not a good jump trying to
01:00move to the inside.
01:03Davies
01:04has got the whole shot. Kitchen right behind
01:06him. Yeah, better start for Levi
01:07Kitchen up there, but Cole Davies has got
01:10these starts figured out. He's been up front
01:12the last few motos, and normally
01:14when he's up there, if he doesn't make a mistake, he usually
01:15wins. So Sasha in that
01:18fourth spot, but all our
01:19top three in that first moto are top
01:22three fastest with Roder D there.
01:24Got the fastest guys up front.
01:26Let's see what happens. Yeah, you're right.
01:27For the most part, if Davies gets out
01:29front, he's hard to top, but we have not seen him
01:31battle Kitchen much, because
01:33Kitchen, this is probably his best
01:36start of the year, starting in second
01:37and Kunin trying to get around
01:40DeFrancisco for third. Yeah,
01:41this is where Sasha is going to have to continue
01:43to learn. He's got so much more speed on
01:45these guys that he can let this race come to
01:47him, but that's hard when you're a 19
01:49year old in a different country. Well, maybe not
01:52because he goes around the outside. Just got to
01:53be patient, because he's got plenty of it on these guys.
01:57Easier said
01:57than done.
02:00Kitchen's best start this year was a
02:01fourth, so this second is good, but he's got pressure
02:04JT. And he's trying
02:05to make moves here, but I think it's hard
02:07to kind of rewire his programming
02:09because I very much agree with James. He has
02:12such a speed edge on this racetrack.
02:13He can afford to be patient, but
02:15that's difficult for him to tell himself
02:17when every other race he's been in in Europe
02:19he's had to take off to try to win these
02:21things early because he has not had
02:23that speed edge. So it's almost, it's
02:25Sasha versus Sasha right now mentally.
02:29Yeah, and like you
02:29said, that's going to be hard to do, but at the
02:31same time, he's going to try to
02:33get up the inside of Levi. I don't think Levi
02:35is really going to fight him too much because he knows
02:37the battle is the 37 who's starting
02:39to get away. What I'm going to do is
02:41realize how much farther this
02:43guy was in front of him. Maybe try to follow
02:45him, see if I can find some lines because
02:47you know he's going towards the front if he stays up.
02:50Had to feed off the pegs twice
02:51though for Sasha. It is always a wild
02:53ride watching this kid, the 19
02:55year old from Belgium,
02:57not afraid to push the limits.
03:00I talked to Lucas Kunin
03:01a couple of months ago and he explained the
03:03philosophy. They said their dad has told him, look,
03:05you don't know where the limit is until you
03:07sometimes get to it or go over it.
03:09That is the philosophy. He's pushing hard
03:11but he's got a long way to go because
03:13Davies three and a half seconds
03:15up on lap one. Yeah, well Cole's been
03:17excellent in these early parts of the race, especially
03:19second motors. I feel like you're dealing
03:21with a different guy. I don't know if he's more
03:23warmed up, but he's been more dominant even
03:25in races that he's won overall. Second
03:27motors been a different guy. So
03:29Sasha's going to have his hands full, but
03:31again, to have that much pace,
03:33you've got to believe he'll eventually get up there if
03:35he just stays on two wheels.
03:37It's Thrasher fifth,
03:39Heimus Bennett, Garcia,
03:40Meniere, Dundee. Top ten early, JT.
03:43Yeah, just to add to what
03:44you're saying there, that's a philosophy that
03:46I think they've gotten from Mark Marquez on
03:48the Moto GPC. You know, in their qualifying
03:50session, you see Ryder D
03:52there down, but that's a philosophy
03:54that they use in their practice session,
03:56qualifying session to try to find the limit of traction,
03:58try to see where the very edge of things
04:00is, and I understand that and appreciate
04:02and respect that, but if that
04:04leads to injury through crashes,
04:06then it's off or not. So I do think
04:08there is something to finding that limit, but you
04:10cannot consistently go over the limit
04:12and hope to finish the championship.
04:14Yeah, well, I ain't going to say too much because
04:16I used to follow that philosophy
04:18as well quite a bit
04:20until it started hurting when I was in that
04:22ground, but at the same time
04:24he's got to find that limit because
04:26Cole Davies is, as I mentioned earlier
04:28just seems like a different rider than
04:30he was in the first motos, but
04:32nonetheless, I think Sasha
04:34actually looked pretty calm to me.
04:36Track's going to be, again, this race is going
04:38to be really long.
04:40Looks like he'll probably get there.
04:42Man, but Davies, how about this?
04:44Eight and a half seconds up on
04:46Kitchen, who is right behind him off the start.
04:48So, as far as the points are concerned,
04:51wherever Sasha is doesn't really matter.
04:52Davies wants to beat Kitchen
04:54and man, has he put some time into him.
04:59Again, I don't know what it is.
05:01I mean, I can just only assume that maybe they make some bike changes
05:03or he's warmed up, but the difference
05:05in his intensity, these opening laps,
05:07Cole Davies that is, between the first
05:09moto and second moto is pretty noticeable.
05:11So, yeah, really to try
05:13to beat Sasha today, he's going to have to do
05:15exactly what he's doing. Just try to run
05:17out there, be safe, but try to make
05:19Sasha have to over rot, maybe hit the ground.
05:21I don't think on speed, you're going to be able to make
05:23that big of a difference.
05:26Sasha's trying, he's cut it down to 2.9 seconds
05:29from about three and a half.
05:31And Kitchen still losing more time,
05:33battling it out with Hymus, Thrasher
05:35and Francisco Garcia
05:37riding well again.
05:39Ryder out of Spain.
05:42Yeah, and who knows?
05:44I mean, if I was Cole Davies that
05:45you know, you want to try to beat Sasha,
05:47but at the same time, your goal is to
05:49beat Levi, and what he's doing by
05:51pushing his gap, it's really broken that gap
05:53to Levi, who he knows he needs to get.
05:55So, he might be racing
05:57to actually Levi at the moment, even though
05:59Sasha's close to him, because he knows
06:01Levi's been pretty strong at the end of these
06:02motos. If I get a gap, then I'll be solid.
06:06Davies would
06:07take over the championship lead if he
06:09wins this moto. Katie?
06:11When talking with the team earlier today,
06:13they were mentioning that Cole Davies has
06:15a veteran mindset. He is such a
06:17calculated individual, and funny
06:18enough, they're like, it sounds weird, but he's like
06:20a computer. You don't have to repeat
06:22things to him. He takes things immediately
06:24and flies them right away, and
06:27that is such a strength that he has on this bike.
06:29Yeah, specifically on that,
06:31the starts were not good at the beginning of the season.
06:32He fixed them around High Point, and the team
06:34manager over there, Will Hahn, said,
06:37as Katie said,
06:38he's a computer. Once he gets it figured out once,
06:41we don't think he's going to revert back to any bad
06:43habits, and honestly, he has been
06:44lights out on the starts
06:46since then, but that's not going to
06:49save him now because Coonan has picked up the pace.
06:51Yeah, that makes sense, and maybe that's why he's
06:53better in the second moto, because he's got a
06:55chance to understand what's been thrown
06:56at him the first one. He reacts, and
06:58it's like a different router, but
07:00as I said, on the speed difference
07:03what Sasha had over everybody else,
07:05even if Cole's doing what he's doing to everyone
07:07else, he had a pretty big
07:09advantage, Sasha that is, and he's more comfortable
07:11up front, he's making that
07:13close, closing that gap really quick on Cole.
07:19All right, Davies and Coonan, now a battle
07:21for the lead, beginning to brew.
07:27And Sasha catches him quick.
07:38I just want to sit back and watch this. Oh, Sasha
07:41feet off.
07:42It actually worked out well for him.
07:45They would open that corner, but this is
07:47exactly what Cole has to do
07:49to him, and if anything,
07:51he's throwing that rust, that roost up to
07:53him, Sasha's going to have to eat that, and
07:54eventually he's going to have to try to find a different
07:56line to make that pass, and maybe it's a small mistake.
08:03Sasha got to go back to work.
08:05A couple of mistakes do there.
08:08Davies stretches it.
08:10Kunin would still have the overall win
08:12over Kitchen. Davies will be on the podium.
08:14But a long way to go.
08:19Yeah, what Cole has to do is really just hit his marks,
08:22try to hit these main lines and insides
08:24and just keep that momentum up and make
08:26Sasha, as JT did on the track report,
08:29go the long way around him.
08:30And obviously he's got to go fast
08:32if you're going the longer way around. Maybe Cole makes
08:34a small mistake. But nonetheless, both
08:36these guys are doing good on the Challenger racetrack.
08:40And they got a huge gap
08:41over third. Yeah, and now third
08:42Kitchen is in trouble. Hyman
08:45here in the blue gear
08:47on the red Honda has caught
08:49Kitchen for that number three spot.
08:52Chance is getting better
08:53and better. I would say the last
08:55three motos. So far, he's been getting
08:57better and better, and that's good to see.
08:59Because this guy, when he's on,
09:01he can look like Sasha did that first
09:03moto run away from all these guys, but just
09:05belief and you've got to continue to work
09:07at him. Fans responding, now the battle
09:13for the lead back on.
09:26This is the area where Davies was able to shake
09:28him last time around.
09:31Sasha with a big charge.
09:34You can see that coming. What Sasha was trying to do
09:36was get really close to him.
09:39Really, really close that time.
09:40It just kept it on two wheels.
09:42Trying to get close to him, not hit him at that point.
09:44But he was trying to set that corner up
09:46where he made a pass, you know, earlier
09:48where a couple passes were made. Get really
09:50close to him, and the guy has to kind of make
09:52a decision, go inside, outside. Sasha
09:54tried getting there, but Cole did his
09:56job. And that's where I went back to is
09:58Cole just has to continue going to the fast
10:00parts of the racetrack and make Sasha have to work
10:02going a long way.
10:04Now look at his rhythm.
10:06Same spot. Now what happens? Cole is going to
10:08bank out of that corner. Sasha's not expecting
10:10him to get there. Cole didn't do anything
10:12wrong. He wanted to be on that side so he can
10:14open up this next corner.
10:16Almost called Sasha. Almost made him go down.
10:21So now Kunin's down three and a half seconds, JT.
10:24Well, you see Sasha kind of
10:26regrouping here, probably looking for a clean
10:28pair of shorts as well. But the big thing
10:30is just he needs to be patient. You
10:32don't have to force it. And I think
10:34that's probably where he saw that reset
10:36and said, you know what? Why am I trying to over
10:38push this thing? Let me see if I can
10:40re-get back into my pace. I got the overalls
10:42kind of sewn up here. I just
10:44think he was getting impatient as we talked about
10:46on the opening weapon, trying to force a pass that didn't
10:48have to happen right there.
10:51Yeah, overall, he's got this.
10:53But I don't know if the 109 is wired
10:55to just go take overalls.
10:57Figure he's going to make another run at it.
10:59We'll see.
11:00Yeah, you think he will. I mean, he'll
11:02settle down. And, you know, to give him a little
11:05bit, you know, leeway, I don't necessarily
11:06think what happened when he runs into
11:09Cole was, you know, too
11:11much overpatient.
11:12Not patient enough. Cole kind of bounced back.
11:15He didn't expect it. But nonetheless, we'll
11:17see. Regroup. Cole's doing exactly what he
11:19needed to do. Sasha got thrown off on the rhythm
11:21and see if he can find it now.
11:27Blew that berm out there.
11:30What?
11:32Got James on the board.
11:34Are we referencing?
11:36I don't know. I don't know.
11:39I mean, he ain't got my communication.
11:41Must have heard the KTM keys to the motor.
11:44He was just reminding them.
11:46James. James told you.
11:47Well, I'm gonna say this.
11:49My guy James here wouldn't settle him for second place very often.
11:52So we're gonna find out. He's gonna have a lot to live up to
11:53if they wanted to run it James style.
11:55Well, he might need to erase that.
11:57Because I've done that and I've always finished.
11:59I didn't finish the motor sometimes.
12:00Didn't always work out. Yeah.
12:03Davey's got it up to four seconds now.
12:05We'll see how James Stewart, the 109, can be here.
12:09Kitchen.
12:10Trying to hold off Hibus.
12:12Katie.
12:13Yeah, guys. I was just asking Thomas here.
12:15Sasha's mechanic.
12:16What does that James mean?
12:18Is that our buddy James Stewart?
12:20Yeah, that's just a combination, let's say.
12:23Because, yeah, James was speaking to them.
12:25He just said, keep rolling, like in the beginning of the call now.
12:29So that's just a reminder for them.
12:31That's awesome, guys.
12:32That's, that's awesome.
12:33And that was true.
12:34I did have that conversation with him yesterday.
12:36What?
12:37That's real talk right there.
12:39That's real talk.
12:40Wow.
12:41So what was your advice?
12:43Basically to not do what he was doing.
12:47Relax, let this thing go.
12:49Yeah, won't get too deep into it.
12:51But that's pretty cool.
12:54And that's scary, because that kid's listening.
12:57And his mechanic there, his mechanic was there yesterday.
13:00Wait, wait.
13:02Oh!
13:02He got over the front.
13:03I hope he survived that.
13:06He's on two wheels.
13:07He's good.
13:08Got a kick there.
13:09That's more like James right there.
13:12Yeah, James maybe with three exclamation points instead of the one.
13:16Well, you talked about that with Sasha, the willingness to learn,
13:18and how much room for improvement there could be,
13:21how much better he could even get to this.
13:23He's got, he's only 19 years old.
13:25Yeah, I mean, to get to this level, he's obviously had to, you know,
13:28take in coaches and whatnot.
13:31And basically what I was telling him is, you know, in this position,
13:34especially at this racetrack, the way he rides when he gets a little loose,
13:37sometimes he starts rushing at things.
13:39He throws those arms out, and it's easy for him to lose the front end and all that.
13:42So just calm down.
13:43Let this grow.
13:45A little bit more deeper than that.
13:46But that's what's the gist, and cool this mechanic.
13:49Remind him to that and see if he can go after Cole Davies.
13:52Got a one-two punch here with these Monster Energy Yamaha Star racing machines.
13:56Thrasher and Minear have been very good today.
13:58They're ganging up on Hymas.
14:01Minear, his best so far this year, had the 10-3 for fifth at high point,
14:06where he held off Shimoda to the end.
14:09And right now, 6-6 of the Moto's looking for another fifth overall.
14:13Would like to get around Thrasher first.
14:15And Thrasher wants to get Hymas.
14:18Yeah, Caden, he had a really good ride that first Moto.
14:21Like you said, able to get around his teammate at the end.
14:23So, see if he can continue doing the same thing.
14:26Caden.
14:26Caden Minear was telling us that he is so stoked to be here
14:29because he did grow up with Sand in Australia.
14:32But the team overall was saying one thing about Caden Minear that's a Sand out is his overall effort.
14:38Every time he hits that track, he's trying.
14:40There's absolutely no question about it.
14:42And we have seen this improvement in Caden Minear this season.
14:46Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
14:47He actually passed Davies late in the first Moto.
14:51And now he's trying to do it to Kitchin here.
14:54Could he get all the way there?
14:56It's actually pretty close to Kitchin, Hymas, Thrasher and Minear.
15:00And Bomair seventh.
15:02Brody Connolly, shout out to the New Zealand native, running nine to the Quadlock Honda.
15:06Landon Gibson, who is racing in the SMX Next Combine last weekend.
15:12And Redbud is tenth right now.
15:14Actually just passed Connolly.
15:15He's not moving to ninth.
15:17You know, speaking of that, that just shows you how good that combine class is.
15:22Because he didn't even win that race.
15:24No.
15:24Finished second.
15:25Now he's running the top ten.
15:26But, you know, going back to that first Moto, you remember,
15:28Ryder D was kind of in that same position as Levi was.
15:31They didn't have that Ryder in front of him.
15:33And it seemed like he was kind of bunching up these guys.
15:36You know, Levi just got to continue pushing forward.
15:39About 20 seconds down on those guys in front of him.
15:41So, he's got a lot of guys.
15:44Deep coming.
15:49Oh, you hear them in formation, that battle.
15:54And riding like James is paid off.
15:56Coonan is back near the rear fender of Davies.
15:59But you see what that shot right there, how he laid up in that corner.
16:02That's kind of what I was telling him.
16:04You know, just kind of relax going into there.
16:06And he didn't lose any time.
16:07And what he's doing is saving energy.
16:09And at this moment, he's realized that I got that pace on Cole.
16:12I just got to figure out where I'm going to pass him at.
16:15And where he was going to pass, where he almost runs into him,
16:18is a great opportunity.
16:18But still, they just got past halfway at this moment.
16:22This race is long from over.
16:26Whoa!
16:27And this track getting rough.
16:28Almost kicked Davies over the bars.
16:31Yeah, if I'm Sasha, I'm like, oh, this is exactly what I want to see.
16:34I can see the guy in front of me making a few mistakes.
16:37Now, just got to set him up.
16:38This pass will happen.
16:40Just got to pick my spot, let it go.
16:41But Cole's doing a good job and continue to fight.
16:44Going where Sasha wants to be at.
16:50Uh-oh, outside line for the 109.
16:53That's the long way around that JT and Katie were talking about.
16:56A little bit too long.
16:57Now to the inside.
16:59Side by side.
17:01Yeah, you feel like you got him at some parts of this track.
17:04Now it funnels back into one line.
17:07Here.
17:09Now opens back up.
17:10Cole's going to have to make a decision.
17:12What he's going to make is Sasha going around on the outside.
17:14Great pass by him.
17:16Woo!
17:16To the lead.
17:17The 109.
17:18And hanging it out now.
17:21Now what you want to try to do is put in about a half a lap.
17:24Really clean.
17:25You can really break Cole's fears at this moment.
17:28Because he's not going to fight you too hard.
17:29His competition is that 47.
17:31And he's got him on lock right now.
17:33But.
17:34Might never be able to do anything.
17:37Seated differently than his body language.
17:39Meanwhile, you see the points there in the left side.
17:41It would be Kitchin and Davies now tied for the points lead after that pass.
17:44We go back to JT.
17:46Yeah, just to add to what James was saying there.
17:48I would expect this to be Sasha's best lap of the race right here.
17:52He's going to try to effectively end the race.
17:54Great Cole's spirit.
17:56Thinking that he can win this race right here on this lap.
17:58He'll probably, if he stays on the track that is,
18:00He'll probably set his best lap here.
18:02And this will probably do it if he stays up right.
18:04And the crowd.
18:05You hear them responding to that.
18:07They love this kid.
18:08Halfway through this moto.
18:09A reminder to stock up on a Monster Energy drink.
18:12And he is gone, folks.
18:15Yeah, he's gone.
18:16And like I said earlier, at some point, Cole's going to realize that,
18:20Hey, I'm gaining points only by this moto.
18:22He's not going to fight him.
18:23But that was all dictated on the 109.
18:25Sasha really putting that attack to him.
18:27And I'm impressed because one of the things that we've heard about him is that he doesn't know how to
18:32turn it off.
18:32He's always wide open.
18:34I saw a rather growth in this moto.
18:36Really learning and attacking him, race craft, and getting this thing done.
18:40And look at this.
18:44Doing exactly now like he did in moto one.
18:47Look at this.
18:48Meniere has gone through.
18:50He's past Hyvis.
18:51He's past Thrasher.
18:53He's to fourth.
18:54And he's looking to get Kitchen.
18:55And that would help his buddy and his teammate.
18:58Right now, Kitchen and Davies tied for the point lead.
19:01Kitchen cannot afford to lose this spot.
19:04Yeah, Levi's going to have to continue to push forward.
19:06And it's hard sometimes as a rider because you get in these spots and you would just easily, if you
19:11have the energy, be able to pick up the pace.
19:12But sometimes the body doesn't react that way, no matter if you're not feeling it.
19:17But here at Southwick, second moto, rough track.
19:20Wouldn't be surprised if all these guys are feeling it up here.
19:23Levi's got his fight on his hand, the rookie.
19:33And like I said, if you're at these races, Meniere and Davies, not just teammates.
19:37Usually you see one, you see the other.
19:40They go way back, used to race each other.
19:43Davies from New Zealand.
19:45Meniere from Australia.
19:46And they are loose, man.
19:48Do they have fun in that truck before the motos when they get the karaoke going?
19:52Not nearly as locked in as you'd think they would be.
19:55Obviously when the helmets go on, they're good for it.
19:58But they're having a good time.
20:00Some young kids.
20:01And Meniere rallying now.
20:02Kitchen trying to respond.
20:05Yeah, and the hard part with Levi not having his teammates up front and a lot of them being hurt.
20:09He's got to somewhat pay attention to that friendship.
20:13Not saying that Caden would do anything.
20:15But you wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.
20:18Nonetheless, Caden.
20:19Just a little bit of the running order here with the pit board.
20:22Sasha Kunin has been saying long race slash slow.
20:26Cole Davies, his pit board has mentioned you versus you.
20:29Keep slow and focus ahead.
20:31Meanwhile, for Levi Kitchen, you have to go focus forward and you have more.
20:36Meanwhile, Caden Meniere, podium possible.
20:41And that's why they're pushing Meniere.
20:44Right now looking at the podium today, he would be fourth overall.
20:49This pass would not quite be enough to get it.
20:52But they're just trying to find any motivation to keep their guys going.
20:55I've got to imagine this point in the race.
20:58The guys are tired except for maybe one of them.
21:01Look at the lap time that Kunin just threw down on the left side of the screen.
21:06Yeah, and when you look at in second place, he was, Cole Davies ran a 2.10.
21:11So, yeah.
21:12So, we're five seconds faster.
21:14It looks like, uh, Conrad or Daxton Bennett.
21:18And having had already missed some time.
21:21And now he's going to be out again.
21:23I'm sure what happened there.
21:25Yeah, last time around, Kunin was five seconds faster than Davies.
21:29So, he put in his best lap of the moto late in the moto.
21:32JT.
21:33Yeah, and I think it speaks to, you know, there's this misconception that
21:36everybody's just flat out the whole time, as fast as you can possibly go for 35 minutes.
21:40That's not really what happens, right?
21:42You strategically try to put in your best laps when you think it's going to count,
21:47when you think it matters.
21:48The rest of the time, you settle into a pace that you can sustain.
21:51Now, you want that pace to be as fast as you can.
21:54But you need to be able to hold that pace.
21:56But there are times when you know that you can change the outcome of your race
22:00if you drop the hammer right there, right then.
22:02That is what Tasha Kunin did.
22:04That's why he went 205.
22:06You'll probably see him drop back down to a 207, 208, and manage it from here.
22:10But that was effectively the difference in the race was that 205.
22:13Yeah, absolutely, JT.
22:15You guys hear me all the time talking about these races.
22:18And there's moments.
22:19And I know how crazy it looks.
22:20It looks like these guys are just wild childs just going on here.
22:23But I would argue that it's more like chess out here, the way these guys really attack these races.
22:28And especially when you get higher to competition, you become more of a veteran, learning how to win.
22:33You know it's moments.
22:35And you just saw one by Sasha Kunin right there.
22:39As for Davies, though, it's still an effective day.
22:41That crash of the first moto definitely held it back.
22:45But I'll tell you what.
22:46This is three straight great races for him.
22:48Not going to get the overall today if it ends like this.
22:51Had the two-race win streak coming in.
22:52But there's so many questions about could Davies do a motocross when he has already done in Supercross.
22:58I think he's answered all of those.
23:03Hey, guess what we found?
23:05The brothers.
23:06So you got Lux Turner on the 43.
23:09And then Jake Cannon, Green there on the 303.
23:11Those are the brothers of the WMX Championship contenders.
23:14Turner, his sister is the WMX champion.
23:17Lala Turner, Jake Cannon, the WMX second in points.
23:21Charlie Cannon.
23:22And now the brothers are hooked up in a battle.
23:24And that is for 14th and 15th.
23:27Yeah, Jake's like, I got you, sis.
23:29I got you.
23:30Hold it down.
23:31Look.
23:31Doing the same thing.
23:32It's great.
23:35And shout out to Marshall Welton, the veteran out of Michigan, right behind them.
23:38We talked to Jake yesterday.
23:39Did you get any advice on American Racing from his sister?
23:44Not too much, but she says it's, you know, it's so big.
23:48So you really have to focus on yourself here and not let all the distractions bother you.
23:52So, yeah, not too much about giving me advice or anything.
23:56So I kind of know what to do with racing at the MXGP.
23:59And, yeah, just everything.
24:02I just want to ride like myself, to be honest.
24:05And here's what's interesting is Cannon puts the pressure back on Lux.
24:10Tries to make the move.
24:11Lux fights back.
24:14Cannon gets it.
24:16So makes the move.
24:18What's interesting, he doesn't get much advice from his sister because since he races in Europe and she races in
24:23Australia and America, he says they might only see each other once a year.
24:27Maybe around Christmas time during the off season because they're never racing in the same place at the same time.
24:33They talk to each other a lot and it looks like Welton just went by in Lux, but amazing the
24:38level of sacrifice these riders and their families put in to try to make it.
24:42Oh, absolutely.
24:43I mean, it goes deeper.
24:46Every rider, girlfriends, boyfriends, all of it, everybody makes that sacrifice towards one goal.
24:52And, truthfully, that's the only way you can really commit.
24:55You know, everybody's got to be on that same goal.
24:58As Minear, his goal is try to get around Levi Kitchen for third place here.
25:04Yeah, they're all in as well.
25:05Talked to Caden's mom this morning.
25:08Just how much they love working and racing in America.
25:12He's digging deep.
25:13Let's get more Minear, Caden.
25:16Just thinking about the improvement as Minear looks to be making this move here.
25:20It wasn't that long ago at High Point where it was a career day.
25:23He was able to hold off Joe Shimoda in that second moto.
25:26Now he's the aggressor.
25:28So you see what confidence can do.
25:29You see now he's starting to believe that he belongs up here.
25:33And he just passed what might be the championship points leader at the end of the day.
25:37That is a huge turn in the story of Caden Minear.
25:41Yeah, I agree with you.
25:42I mean, he passed what would have been the championship points leader, but that pass puts him in second place.
25:47It's a good ride by Levi, but yeah, I'm 100% with you.
25:51I was really impressed what he did to Joe by holding him off with his race craft and passing his
25:57teammate to end in the first moto.
25:58So clearly this kid has some fitness.
26:01Going to start to see the 99 up front more often.
26:05And you see that will give Davies sole possession of the point lead.
26:10And Shimoda you see on that list again broke his collarbone in practice this morning.
26:15Huge bummer for the rider who had the point lead coming in.
26:20As for Minear, such a fun kid to talk to, such a wild personality, the 19 year old out of
26:25Australia.
26:27Had a couple of stops and starts.
26:30Even lost some time, I believe, with the visa problems.
26:33Had to go back to Australia for a bit a year ago.
26:35But he is back with a vengeance.
26:37And no one, and I mean no one, has an answer for the 109 of Sasha Kunis.
26:44No, they haven't.
26:45And they pretty much haven't had it all day long.
26:48And when you look at him, you know, right now he's doing exactly-
26:52Oh no!
26:53He throws it away!
26:56Is he okay?
26:59Is he okay?
26:5914 second lead over Davies.
27:04Still got it!
27:08Folks, this is a Sasha Kunis experience.
27:15I believe he doesn't have goggles on.
27:21The goggles come off there, we'll see.
27:25Wait till we get to the next split and you'll see the gaps.
27:27You're right, no goggles.
27:29He's gotta bring it home.
27:30Now even, uh, lap traffic or even just sand spraying off the front tire, is that a problem?
27:36Yeah, no, it is a problem.
27:38I'm just more curious, did he have it on before?
27:40Uh, oh, I see.
27:43Yeah, he had his goggles on.
27:44Almost the same.
27:46Incredible.
27:47Let's do.
27:47Man!
27:48He launched onto the jump lens.
27:50Right in the face of the lens.
27:52Yeah, and I think, guys, what happens there, when you go down like that late in the moto,
27:55especially here at Southwick, all of the sweat that has been building up in the foam of the goggle splashes
28:01all over the goggle lens.
28:02And so even if his goggles were fine, he now has water covering inside the lens you wouldn't be able
28:06to see.
28:06Therefore, you gotta pull him.
28:09So he's gonna begin hitting the eyes with sand, even without lap traffic?
28:12Yeah, for sure.
28:14The sand's gonna be flinging up on him, and again, he's gonna have to deal with lap traffic.
28:18Now, if he could bridge this gap, keep this gap about three seconds, I think he'll be able to ride
28:23it out,
28:24because at some point, I think, again, Cole's gonna, he's gonna get more comfortable, find his rhythm again,
28:30and Cole probably doesn't want to fight him too much for this lead, and...
28:35Man, that was simple.
28:35Hopefully, Cole, he might see him maybe put that charge in there.
28:39Cole's probably like, man, why'd you have to fall? I was comfortable here in second place.
28:43I don't want to have to do it.
28:45Yeah, because that's three championship points for Davies if he could get this moto win,
28:49so he has reason to go after him.
28:57But we've kind of seen those crashes all day long.
29:00To me, it looked like he just kind of overjumped that jump a little bit.
29:03He hit a pothole and didn't see that bike reacting, and he goes down.
29:07This is a very difficult racetrack, and especially being second moto, end of the day.
29:12I was just on a different continent last week.
29:15I'm sure at some point he's probably feeling it.
29:17But again, this is Southwick.
29:19This track just as hard as the competition out there.
29:25And I just keep going back to the fan response to this kid.
29:28Getting to those bowl berms where the crowd surrounds the track.
29:31They love it.
29:33Katie.
29:33Just a little note.
29:35Lockley built his, Cole Davies mechanic had to put on his pit board no goggles with an arrow ahead.
29:42So Cole Davies does know that Sasha's running without those goggles.
29:46That's smart by the mechanic.
29:48Give him a little extra fire.
29:51Yeah.
29:51There they are.
29:52We found the goggles.
29:55Yeah, Cole Davies.
29:56Because again, if he doesn't know that, now Sasha's getting back up the pace.
29:59Cole might just be like, all right, he fell.
30:01I might, like I'm not going to be able to get him.
30:03But knowing that he doesn't have goggles, he knows that's going to affect him.
30:06So try to close that gap if you can safely.
30:14Looks like he, I don't know if he'll get to the finish line before that two minutes, JT.
30:19Yeah, and I just wonder how much Davies has left here.
30:22You know, that was the one question we had coming in was late in the moto in the roughest,
30:26hottest days.
30:27Where was Davies at, you know, considering that?
30:31You know, if this was Joe Shimoda, I'd be like, uh-oh, that's a lot of trouble for Kuna.
30:34But I don't know how interested Davies is here on trying to press the pace this late in the moto.
30:41No, and not making fun of it because I've been in that spot where Cole Davies, actually at this racetrack,
30:46where Ricky was out front, second moto, and he goes down and brings me back in the race.
30:51And I actually remember being mad because I was so tired.
30:54I didn't want to fight him for the win.
30:55So I get you, Cole, like, I'm going to keep trying.
30:59But at the same time, like, I'm just beating Levi.
31:02That's what you asked me to do coming into this moto.
31:06And his buddy Muneer between he and Kitchen, that's a big difference.
31:09Now, if Davies were to get Kuna, and I think he got a call off the alarm on that because
31:14Kuna is stretching back out.
31:16If he did do it, he would actually move to second overall ahead of Kitchen.
31:21Beaumair, he is relentless, this guy.
31:24He is all over Kitchen though.
31:26Yeah, I think this is an important pass not to happen for Levi.
31:30He's had a great day at first moto.
31:32Now you got passed by Caden.
31:34Okay.
31:36But, you know, Julian's here in this title battle,
31:38so there's really kind of no excuse.
31:40You know you got to beat this guy too.
31:42But, Levi needs to fight this.
31:44He sees Caden in front of him.
31:46So there is a rabbit to chase.
31:48See what you can do.
31:49Long three laps.
31:53Beaumair is fifth.
31:57Thrasher sixth.
31:57Heimus seventh.
31:58Garcia.
31:59Adams.
32:00And Landon Gibson round out the top ten.
32:03Kitchen has to dig deep.
32:04Cannot let Beaumair get to him.
32:12Third overall for Kitchen last year in this race 2-4.
32:16Right now sitting on a 2-4 as well.
32:19Got a shout out Beaumair.
32:22Yes.
32:23Bad result at Redbud, but he got stuck in the first moto, then crashed twice in moto too.
32:28But he is really proving what an all-arounder he is.
32:30We haven't seen a drop-off really results-wise.
32:33Even in the deep sand.
32:34No, absolutely not.
32:36And so I'm going to help you out, Julian.
32:38Anybody that hard-packed, just get off that.
32:40This kid knows how to ride.
32:42Yeah.
32:42Yeah, he's injured a lot of this.
32:44Now you kind of see him.
32:45And he's probably not 100% today as well.
32:48That's right.
32:49Had the hand injury dating back to last week.
32:51Last year, Redbud and Southwick were bad for Beaumair, but he later revealed he had had a big crash during
32:58the week while training for these Sandier races down in Florida.
33:02But he's not an excuse kind of guy.
33:04Same thing with the hand injury from last week.
33:06You're not going to hear.
33:07I bet you he won't say anything about how it affected him in the motos, even if it did.
33:11No, definitely not.
33:14Man, this racetrack is brutal.
33:16It's just a challenge even just trying to finish this moto at this point.
33:20It's hot.
33:26Moesman battling on the 23.
33:27Justin Turner, who was out there at the combine last week.
33:30Pro debut for Justin Turner.
33:32Riding well right now.
33:3427th at Moto1.
33:35That's not what he wanted, but he's 12th here on the 507.
33:39It's like Moesman's going to get him.
33:41But a lot of these kids having good debuts today.
33:43Absolutely.
33:44And Michael's genes are always strong at the end of the motos.
33:46So he'll always continue to fight.
33:48You almost got to believe something happened to Turner Jr. at that first moto.
33:53That's right.
33:53Because him riding a lot better in the second moto, which is a lot tougher.
33:58I think he's got some pace.
33:59He's got to finish this off and be a good ride.
34:07Yeah, good job, Justin.
34:08They got a lot of talent there at Club MX.
34:10Wider Malinowski, who you might remember from the SMX Next Supercross races.
34:15He's busy racing in Canada this summer where he leads the 250 championship there.
34:20So expect Turner and Malinowski to be strong at the Monster Energy Final at Loretta Lins in a couple of
34:26weeks.
34:29Sasha Kunin, the full experience, speed, saves, the crash, no goggles, no problem.
34:37And he's on the verge of a 1-1, and that'd be three moto wins and four starts in America.
34:43Yeah, he looks good.
34:45Really looks good.
34:46I mean, I know he had that mistake, but really impressed all day.
34:50Out front, that first moto, how dominant that was.
34:52And this second moto, just as impressive to me the way it's racecrafted.
34:58Got to look to him only getting better.
35:04Yeah, that's the craziest part about it, that he's very early in his development.
35:0819 years old.
35:10Leading the championship in the MX2 class, in MXGP.
35:17Not a bad way to spend it off weekend with a 1-1.
35:21Again, the guy was on a different continent a couple days ago, a few days ago.
35:26Hey, he's on a different planet today.
35:27Yeah, he is. That's well said.
35:30Oh, little sideways again. Come on, man.
35:33You might just need to listen to the sounds on the way to the finish.
35:36No announcer's curse here, Sasha. Just bring it home.
35:38Yeah.
35:43Vineira up to third, as mentioned.
35:46And I think the field's pretty frozen at this point.
35:49Volmer lost a little ground on Kitchen.
35:54I know he's trying to finish this thing and ride it off, but when you look at him and his
36:00brother coming through the pack,
36:01I think these guys will go back and luckily they don't have to race him for a while, but it's
36:05pretty obvious to see where they're faster.
36:08And really we saw Jet Lawrence and how he rides his momentum, especially through the middle of the corner.
36:14Well, from today, these guys look like Jet Lawrence compared to everybody else when he first came in.
36:19Like they're just momentum around the racetrack is so much faster.
36:24They're taking these outside lines using different lines on this racetrack and just really going around people.
36:29And when you go back to Sasha Lucas, that first moto, he was passing guys and they didn't realize he
36:34was there.
36:35But it goes back to my point is how much more speed they had because you just catching all these
36:40guys off, you know, by surprise.
36:42And same thing with Sasha.
36:47There's no doubt they were amazing in this terrain.
36:50Unfortunately, we're not getting Lucas in moto two after the big crash.
36:53Hopefully he's okay and that's just precautionary.
36:56But there has been no doubt of the speed in the sand for the twins from Belgium.
37:03Now, if they would have come to the United States full time, and that's the rumor, that's certainly what they
37:07want to do.
37:08We'll see if they can get that figured out contractually.
37:11They're going to have to learn Supercross, which is a completely different animal than Southwick.
37:15But boy, did they live up to the hype.
37:19Speedwise this weekend, Sasha Kunin, you're a winner in America.
37:241-1, Sasha Kunin takes Southwick.
37:31And Beaumair won't quit.
37:33He's right to kitchen going into the last turn.
37:36What a battle.
37:38Got a line to the inside, not enough.
37:41Wow, he's fit.
37:43How strong.
37:44Both these guys, that was a tough ride.
37:46Tough day by both these.
37:48Tough conditions.
