REDBUDDDD! 🇺🇸 Welcome back to GLOBAL RACING for the premier class showdown at Round 7 of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship! The 4th of July weekend crowd is absolutely electric here at Buchanan, Michigan, and the track has transformed into a brutal, rough, and unforgiving battleground for the heaviest hitters in the sport.

The 450MX Overall Qualifying session absolutely exploded as the premier class riders took to the deteriorating track, and it was a spectacular game of high-stakes chess. Securing the absolute top spot on the leaderboard, Team Honda HRC’s phenom Jett Lawrence (#1) sent a shockwave through the field. Jett looked completely effortless, skimming the massive braking bumps and slicing through the deepest ruts to lay down a blistering, unmatched lap time of 2:16.573!

But the victory wasn't uncontested. Pushing the premier class boundaries and throwing down an absolute heater right behind him was Haiden Deegan (#38), who showed incredible aggression and raw speed on the rough Michigan soil. Deegan clocked a phenomenal 2:16.818, missing the top spot by a mere fraction of a second and proving that he has the intensity and the lines to challenge for the overall victory today.

The RedBud clay is now incredibly demanding—the heavy 450 horsepower machines have ripped open massive, square-edge bumps right before the faces of the jumps and created deep, technical slot-car ruts through the corners. Jett's precise chassis control and Deegan’s high-revving, aggressive scrubbing style over the obstacles—including the legendary LaRocco’s Leap—set them completely apart from the rest of the field in this morning session.

With the qualifying times locked in and the gate pick decided, the stage is set for an all-out war when the 450 gates drop for Moto 1 and Moto 2. Can Jett Lawrence maintain this flawless flow and dominate the overall, or will Haiden Deegan’s relentless pace and intensity shake up the premier class podium in the Michigan heat?

We are bringing you the complete breakdown of the lines, the scrubbing techniques, the raw speed, and the technical execution that defined the morning sessions.

00:00Showing you how good the track is now.
00:01Yeah, Tony, he's like me.
00:03The age, man, the weather starts affecting me.
00:06Oh, okay.
00:07Hey, subscribe-y.
00:09So you don't miss the next moto.
00:11This guy, and I think on these racetracks, we've been talking about his injury and his foot.
00:15And I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I believe he got through the toughest racetracks,
00:20you know, going to Thunder Valley and High Point because of those ruts.
00:23Maybe some of the tendencies, how tough those racetracks are, he got through that.
00:28So here you start to get to a softer racetrack, and if you have any kind of injuries,
00:32any grounds a lot softer, it'd be better for you.
00:34But Jet Lawrence is always good.
00:37He's been getting better all year long.
00:38I think he looked even great a couple weekends ago at High Point on the motorcycle.
00:42Unfortunately, he lost to his brother, but I think Jet will be here.
00:46Really kind of understanding that biggest guy I'm going to have to fight has the same last name as me
00:51and my brother.
00:53Oh, a little slip-out right there.
00:55Got Prado right behind him.
00:58No roosting.
00:59Nobody's getting roosted.
01:00No action like that, but it's early in the day.
01:05Definitely was some drama in the qualifying session dating back to High Point between Lawrence and Deegan.
01:12Yeah, I think Hayden's in front of him, so Jet's really kind of letting him get the gap
01:17or another rider's in front so he can have that clear racetrack, as I mentioned.
01:21You can see how difficult this racetrack is.
01:23So the key for qualifying, you've got to have no one in front of you.
01:28You get stuck behind somebody, you can ruin your whole lap, and Jet Lawrence is going to try to let
01:33it clear out.
01:33Dylan Ferrandez goes by him.
01:35Dylan was okay.
01:36Yeah, he had that big crash early in the second moto at High Point, but he was all right.
01:41So that surely designs Red Bull Ducati team as three riders today.
01:44Justin Barsha back from a back injury, and then we mentioned Tony Corolli, the test rider for Ducati,
01:49going to race here, Southwick and Millville.
01:53Somebody's stuck on the inside, and there it is.
01:56LaRocco's leap.
01:58Rain or shine.
01:59Muddy or not.
01:59Hayden Deegan wants it and gets it.
02:01You know he was going to hit it.
02:03But, yeah, somebody was stuck like JT's shoe out there.
02:07Don't feel bad, JT.
02:08Pike's getting stuck as well.
02:10Deegan was putting on a show yesterday, doing some knack-knacks, some whips, turndowns to the fans.
02:17It was so cool.
02:18I was worried he couldn't do it because it was so muddy and deep down there.
02:21But, like you said, he's getting it done, and he's going fast right now.
02:24Yeah, he's always going fast.
02:26And it's kind of surprising that he's never won a moto here.
02:29I know.
02:30Yeah, that's shocking to me, and especially when you look at this racetrack, I think it actually suits him.
02:34He likes to rev the motorcycle up really aggressive, and this track allows you to do that.
02:39Maybe not necessarily the way it is right now because you can see that hard base.
02:43But normally, because of how loose it is, these ruts really get a little Eli Tomek-ish out here, beast
02:50mode.
02:50And Hayden Deegan does that as well as anybody.
02:53And it's having Tomek out here for sure for July 4th.
02:57Is that Jet Lawrence?
03:00Mistake.
03:00And over here, Prado also went down also.
03:03So a couple of riders having issues.
03:04Back up, though.
03:06And it looks like that's their first corner for Jet.
03:11Let's see what happens here.
03:13Yep, first corner goes in here.
03:15You can see this hard base.
03:16He's going to hit it right here.
03:19Oh, okay.
03:19Yeah, so the back end caught that berm, and he wasn't expecting it to hook up.
03:24And then Jorge...
03:25Oh, Prado crashed with him.
03:28Jorge goes a little rodeo-style Aaron Plessinger.
03:31He's like, that's my gig over there.
03:33Prado not happy.
03:35Yeah, he couldn't see, and then he tries to wheel you over.
03:39I don't mean to laugh at you, Jorge.
03:41I've been there, son.
03:43Aaron's like, rope him up.
03:45He almost did get the chance to rodeo it.
03:49Wow.
03:50It's Deegan having his struggles now.
03:51JT, this is getting crazy.
03:53Yeah, I don't know if that was...
03:55It looked more like a matador.
03:57He saw red and just charged that thing there in true Spanish style.
04:01All right.
04:02Jett was able to dodge him, though, I guess.
04:09Exactly what you guys were talking about with the track, all jokes aside.
04:12It literally went from a hard, shiny spot to a soft spot at about 10 feet.
04:17Yeah, you could tell Jett was trying to pull out of that corner earlier.
04:20He knows that that back tower is going to slide.
04:22He just didn't think he would hit that berm as Hayden hits LaRocco's lead.
04:25Easy work.
04:26Probably happy that he's got all this power.
04:29But, you know, thinking about Hayden and the struggles that he's had at this racetrack,
04:33you know, some of his struggles when he made that mistake in that sand roller is what we saw last
04:37year here.
04:37You know, he's really slamming into the corners and making a lot of mistakes.
04:41So, much as this track seems to lend to his riding style, this is what I saw Mike gets in
04:47there, hits the brake.
04:48I mean, once he got to that point, you could tell he was already over it.
04:51But we saw this a lot last year, really standing up in these ruts, losing a lot of time.
04:55So, maybe the way this track is doesn't fit his riding style.
04:59Maybe that's why he hasn't won here.
05:01But if anybody can figure out if he's at number 38, he's figured out everything else in racing so far.
05:07Definitely on a heater right now.
05:10Last year, he actually crashed in qualifying and then was dealing with some pain throughout the day.
05:14And then Shimoda ruled it with the 1-1.
05:16Saw him shaking his hands out there after the off-track excursion.
05:20Just that's a telltale sign in motocross.
05:22What do you see?
05:23Yeah, normally that's with arm pump.
05:25But since it's in practice and so early, he probably wouldn't have that unless he's just really holding on for
05:31dear life.
05:32But he's jumping on Rockwell's League.
05:33He looks comfortable with everybody else everywhere else.
05:35And some of the mistakes that I've seen him make, he's made in previous years.
05:39So, yeah, normally that's the arm pump or if you fall, you're trying to get the mud off or a
05:44tear off.
05:44But he didn't do either one of those.
05:46So, it has to be something with his arms just tightening up.
05:49I talked to Brian, his dad, yesterday.
05:50He said it's been a little arm pump at the race.
05:53It's nothing bad, bad.
05:54But as he gets more comfortable, it's getting better and better.
05:57And they did say that second moto at high point was the freshest he felt at the end of a
06:01moto and no arm pump at all.
06:03So, they feel that that's a sign of progress on the 450.
06:07Yeah, well, that is kind of scary if I'm haying, digging, if practice already have that, you know,
06:14considering that you're not putting multiple laps.
06:16I mean, most of these guys that do in a row and laps would be two.
06:20So, really just shows you how difficult this racetrack is.
06:23And I think with the – you can see in the bike moving around, if you have any kind of
06:27arm pump issues,
06:28this track would probably not be that good for that because it's always moving.
06:32You're always fighting the ruts and slipperiness.
06:34So, he's probably holding on real tight.
06:36So, you never – arm pump in qualifying.
06:38That was not normally a thing for you at least.
06:40No, and if I had it, it was going to be a long day for me.
06:43You know, again, normally arm pump is because you're holding on so tight throughout the moto or early in the
06:49race.
06:50For him to kind of have that, I would say, in one lap, you know, it's not a good sign.
06:56But that being said, the track is very tricky right now.
06:59So, I'm sure he'll probably figure that out and he's going to have to.
07:03He did with the lap time there.
07:04James going to 2-16-8.
07:06That will put him to second behind Jett Lawrence.
07:09And Hunter is third.
07:10Here's Jett in the corner where he struggled earlier.
07:14Perfect slide that time.
07:15Yeah, well, you can tell he didn't – he wasn't as aggressive as he was earlier with that.
07:19He kind of backed out of that and let that bike – you know, his body kind of absorbed that
07:22rut.
07:23And so, Jett Lawrence, that's what makes him great, all these guys, that they make mistakes just like all of
07:28us.
07:28But then they make the difference up quickly.
07:32They adjust to it and they figure it out, JT.
07:35Yeah, and certainly that was just a mistake on his part.
07:38And really, you know, everyone's using the scoop tire with how soft it is.
07:41What the scoop tire doesn't like to do is those really hard sections.
07:45It wants to spin up.
07:46And how deep it is, he's going to be really aggressive on the throttle.
07:49He's going to be high revving.
07:50That's going to spin up.
07:51But then he catches that berm all of a sudden.
07:53Then he gets traction high sides the other way.
07:55So, there's a lot of different variables in that crash.
07:58The scoop tire is one.
08:00Hey, subscribe-y!
08:02So you don't miss the next motos.
08:04That hard right there and then spin up as much though, Katie.
08:06In talking to the team prior to this qualifying, they said that this is one of Jett's favorite tracks.
08:11Actually, this in Millville.
08:12They said it's kind of similar to what they have at home.
08:16And that's really important for these guys, obviously.
08:18Good jumps, fun crowds, gloomy, good dirt.
08:21But when you're kind of seeing it this rough right now, do you think that's still...
08:25I'm going to follow up and ask because it does seem like it's a little rougher than what they were
08:28expecting it to be.
08:30Yeah, I think it's deeper than they expected it to be.
08:34But at the same time, as much rain, they're probably a lot drier than they expected it to be, how
08:38much rain we had.
08:39So, you know, Red Butt, usually, they always dig the track very deep to formulate some of these ruts.
08:46So, you know, you like the track, you like the layout, you know it's going to be a lot different
08:51as we're watching Hunter Lawrence try to get a clean lap on the bottom.
08:53But, yeah, they're comfortable.
08:55All these guys are pretty comfortable at this racetrack.
09:00Let's see how Hunter does on this lap.
09:02I was going to say there's a couple riders in his way, but I think the way this track is,
09:06I don't know if anybody's getting a clean lap.
09:10It's like Jet just not only jumped LaRocco's, he might have overjumped it a little bit.
09:17So, good to hear that that thing is going to be jumpable for at least a couple guys, even with
09:20the rain.
09:21JT.
09:22Yeah, that was the first time he jumped it in a lap prior.
09:25He was rolling it when Hayden jumped it.
09:27So, he noticed Hayden doing it, then went for it in that next lap.
09:31And the first rule of LaRocco's leap, when it's muddy, you just go long.
09:34You just hit it as fast as you can, and you'll figure it out.
09:37So, I would assume he would back it a little bit down the laps moving forward from here.
09:41But the one thing you don't want to do is come up short.
09:43He went long, making sure that he did not come up short there.
09:46Yeah, absolutely.
09:47When I jumped that, it was always going to be an overjump.
09:49Because you know under is not going to work out, especially how big that landing is.
09:53And I was actually surprised watching Jet coming out of the corner.
09:56Because, you know, seeing Hayden really just take his time getting through that corner, hitting it.
10:00Jet was really, had a lot of body English trying to make it.
10:04So, that's being the first time, not surprising he overjumped.
10:07He wanted to make sure he made it.
10:09And Hunter's time doesn't hold up.
10:10He ends up third quickest.
10:12And in this session, Hay, the 216.8 from Deegan, that's the fastest of this session.
10:20Jet's 216.5 was from session one.
10:23So, Hayden Deegan, fastest rider on track right now, second overall.
10:27Yeah, he probably didn't like that his time got pulled.
10:29So, he was going to figure that out real quick.
