00:00Monster Energy Yamaha star racing man from New Zealand, Cole Davies, who got a moto win last weekend in Hangtown
00:07in Northern California, looking for an overall win if he can get it done in the two motos today.
00:12There's the 109 of Sasha Kunin, the 19-year-old from Belgium, in his first pro motocross race in America.
00:19He was second fastest. Where will he slot in? He is the point leader in the European-based FIM MXGP
00:26Championship.
00:27And shout out to Max Bolin, Rocky Mountain ATV MC Privateer Profile.
00:32Solid battling around the top five of the Club of X Yamaha last week.
00:37Not the full factory machine, but Max still very capable.
00:40And you see that red number plate just as a glimpse, the number 10 of Seth Hamaker.
00:45Won the opening round of the series two weeks ago, solid last week.
00:48He's the championship leader coming in, but still a lot of questions to be answered with the young racers in
00:53the 250 class.
00:5430 minutes and two laps away. Here we go!
01:04And I think it's Hamaker going to get the jump. Yes, the number 10 leads them.
01:08Got the 82 of Caden Dudney, a rookie right there.
01:12And Julian Momera, the 13th, has been great to start the season, is quickly in second.
01:16Yeah, if you're Seth Hamaker after a tough second moto last weekend, you wanted to rebound in a place where
01:21you've been at a lot this year.
01:23Winning the first two out of three motos, two out of four motos, excuse me, set his own point at
01:28this one.
01:29But he's got that number 13, Julian Momera, right behind him.
01:33We've been riding great this beginning part of the season.
01:35On the podium last weekend is Momera coming back from a devastating back injury and honestly might be riding better
01:42than ever.
01:43The rider on that orange Red Bull KTM out of Arizona.
01:46As for Hamaker, three hole shots this year.
01:50Three times he's gone to the first turn first in five races.
01:54Yeah, it looks like Nick Romano's up behind him in that four position, Levi Kitchen, there.
02:00So Sasha Kunin's only a couple positions back.
02:02But, yeah, Jason, this class is wide open.
02:06I love these guys.
02:07Any one of these guys in the top 10 can win this race for sure.
02:11Nick Romano out of New York in fourth.
02:13And that great monster producer to Kawasaki.
02:15And the fans get their first look today at the 250 class.
02:19Making moves, it's Romano.
02:20Great pass by Nick.
02:22Nick, he saw the opportunity.
02:24We just saw it in that 450 class, how many ruts are there.
02:26So Nick felt more comfortable.
02:28He was able to make that pass up in that third spot.
02:32You got Dundee on the 82.
02:33And now Levi Kitchen, you can argue, is maybe the fastest rider so far this year on the 47.
02:39But has had to make some passes, and he's doing it again.
02:42Yeah, great start for Levi.
02:43Even Joe Shimoda, I saw him in between lunch break.
02:46He said he's been feeling good, riding good, but he needed a better start.
02:49Well, Joe is able to do it as Sacha Kunin goes down in front of us.
02:54Oh, tough break for the visitor there from Europe.
02:58A couple other riders down.
03:00That is McClure on the 352.
03:01So now Kunin on that 109 is buried.
03:04So Shimoda was the rider at the number 30.
03:07That's the Honda HRC Progressive Machine.
03:09He passed Kitchen, which is not easy to do, to get to fifth.
03:14Yeah, I think if I'm Levi and Joe, I've seen this story before as we're going to try to highlight
03:20Sacha here.
03:22Just a little off-balance.
03:23Oh, he collides with, I believe that's Casey Cochran right there.
03:28Yeah, just a racing incident.
03:30Both those lines came together.
03:31It was up in the air, so the bike got light.
03:33Tough break for Sacha.
03:35Look at Julian Beaumere from second, putting heavy pressure on Habegger for the lead.
03:41He has yet to win a moto in this series, but he looks like he's watched the lead right now.
03:47Yeah, Julian's been riding.
03:48I feel like even that first race, being on that podium, the second race was even better to me.
03:54And obviously he's coming out here with his third race there.
03:56I forgot who hasn't raced that much during the motocross.
03:59He's showing a lot for us, JT.
04:01He is, and just when I watch Julian, he just seems like he's so carefree, kind of like he's racing
04:06with house money.
04:07You know, there were no expectations.
04:09A lot of people weren't sure if he would ever race again coming off that huge crash in Charlotte last
04:14year.
04:14So it's one of those situations where he doesn't feel any pressure, and he's certainly riding that way as he
04:20continues to put pressure on Habegger.
04:22Let's go to Will.
04:24I was talking to him earlier, and just to kind of help you on your point there, this was a
04:29life-changing injury.
04:30Some injuries obviously just set these guys back.
04:32Some of them impact them big picture.
04:35And this was a back injury.
04:37It was, will I be able to race my dirt bike again?
04:40Will life ever be normal again?
04:41And talking to Juju today, his perspective on his sport and his life has completely changed.
04:47And he said he lives very much in the moment now.
04:50He said because we don't know what tomorrow's bringing.
04:52We do not know what the next week's bringing.
04:54And so what's the point in looking at big picture championship when I don't know what the end of today
04:59looks like?
04:59And it's working for him, James, because he's managing to stay in the moment.
05:03And it's a challenge for many riders to be able to just focus on what they're doing.
05:07And he said, honestly, it's been good for me, which is an incredible perspective to get when you've been through
05:12such a tough injury.
05:13Yeah, it is.
05:15I mean, and as both of you guys mentioned, I mean, even riding just looks a lot, like, calmer.
05:19So, you know, I feel like it helps just manage to up and down the flow between having a great
05:25moto to a bad moto.
05:26It keeps you more consistent because, obviously, you're just happy to be here.
05:30And you understand that there's a lot more to life, especially when something you love doing is getting taken away
05:36from you.
05:36Anytime you get a chance to do it, you're blessed for it and you're happy.
05:39And Julian's showing that, and clearly this kid knows how to ride a motorcycle, perfect scenario for him.
05:45Shimoda was rolling up on this group, James, but he went down from the fourth place spot.
05:50And we can show you what happened to the number 30, the rider out of Japan.
05:55So that'll move Kitchin into that number four position.
05:58And Shimoda, definitely a title contender this year, but this is going to hurt.
06:02Yeah, watch him.
06:03He's going to get in this, lean that bike over.
06:05And just that run is so long, he started losing his rear foot.
06:09And just basically pulled him off the motorcycle.
06:12It's like we might.
06:13Oh, Koonan down again.
06:16That's great for him.
06:17That's what happens when you get in a bad start.
06:19Not Ben will really see, you know, I'm assuming that he's in the pack.
06:23And these ruts are long here at Thunder Valley.
06:27So unfortunate there for Sasha.
06:29Two crashes will move him back.
06:31So you got that green number 10 of Hamaker still holding on under fire from Bomair.
06:37And an army of green Kawasaki's around Bomair.
06:40Romano is third.
06:41Kitchin is fourth.
06:43That team, Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki, was the dominant team in this sport for a long time.
06:48But it's been a good 10 years since they've had that type of success where they're putting multiple bikes on
06:53the podium, multiple bikes in the top five.
06:56But so far this summer, we've seen this quite a bit.
06:58Yeah, we have.
06:59And a lot of questions, B, is Kawasaki Pro Circuit back?
07:03And, you know, I think where they're back from is what you just mentioned.
07:06They figured out their last couple of years have been some issues.
07:09They needed to work on engines.
07:11They needed to continue to build because Star Racing and these other teams were there.
07:15Kawasaki has went to work.
07:16And now their whole team, you're starting to see it with a fluctuation.
07:19All these riders out here up front, bull shot, teammates battling.
07:23And that team is back.
07:25Now it's up to the riders, put the per second back on that top.
07:29Romano battling it out with Kitchin just to illustrate that.
07:32So, yes, Star Racing, the Yamaha team, really started to take control about 10 years ago.
07:38And it's won the majority of the titles in this class.
07:40You see, before that of the 2015, it had been the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team that was the dominant factor.
07:46But Pro Circuit looking to get it back right now.
07:49They're running first, third, and fourth, one and two in the championship.
07:53And we thought the Yamaha Challenge would come from Cole Davies today, the fast qualifier.
07:58But he has a bad start.
07:59And the New Zealand native is in 13th.
08:02So, not a factor in this one.
08:04Yeah, I was looking at that.
08:05The first lap, I believe he's on the outside of the top 20.
08:08But the last couple laps I've been looking, and he's only made a couple spots,
08:12which only tells me how difficult this racetrack is to pass, no matter how fast he was in practice.
08:17A bad start here.
08:18Goes back to my point.
08:20Really managing it.
08:21A bad start here, it'll ruin your whole day.
08:23JT.
08:51JT.
08:53He's got back a little bit at the end of the races, at the first rounds.
08:55But every single weekend, he's put himself in positive positions, and he is slowly improving.
09:00And this is truly a renaissance season and part of his career reach.
09:04Honestly, JT, he's rescued his career.
09:06This is the only, you only get one more second chance, and he is making the most of it.
09:11And it's actually Kitchen, who's battling him right now, that went to bat for him.
09:15They're good friends off the track.
09:17They ride together.
09:18And he put in a good word when the team had an opening due to some injuries.
09:22Got Romano on the team, and now he's got to fight him for third place as Havaker continues to roll.
09:29But still, that orange number 13 of Boehmer applying pressure.
09:34Yeah, no, it is.
09:35And it's a great story by Nick, you know, just to spend it more on him.
09:38It's kind of like a player in the NBA, their own one team, all this hype, and it doesn't work.
09:43And then they end up getting demoted or going to a different team, and they seem to find that spot.
09:48I do believe the way the Pro Circuit team, maybe the last few years of struggles,
09:52maybe it's not so much pressure compared to how that star racing.
09:55And when Nick got that opportunity, everybody's trying to trend up, and Nick's going along with him.
10:01So perfect team, perfect scenario for him, and that's why he's in third place.
10:05Now, Ryder out of Queens, New York.
10:07But like a lot of these riders, does his riding and training down in Florida.
10:12That is the same thing for Havaker, the leader out of Pennsylvania.
10:14And the Cavalry, well, they're working together.
10:17Now the two Kawasaki riders, Romano and Kitchen, looking to make moves on Boehmer, and Romano might have it.
10:24What a pass there.
10:25Julian's up in that corner, maybe just relaxing a little bit.
10:29Nick put that power down, said, give me that pass, and he took it.
10:33Well, Romano started the year two weeks ago in this Pro Votacross Series.
10:36Good starts, beginning to fade back.
10:39But we're starting to see now some real staying power, and Kitchen is going to follow up forward.
10:43Got it.
10:44Yeah, Levi's that guy.
10:46We saw it in the first couple races where, I mean, he has that speed, and he continues to close
10:51down on these guys.
10:52So he's probably the dangerous man.
10:53If I'm Seth, that's who I'm looking at, the number 47.
10:56Going back to that Pro Circuit Kawasaki, they're going one, two, and three.
11:01And side-by-side now, Kitchen and Romano.
11:05Yeah, if I'm Levi, if I'm going to try to get around him right now, but if not, if Nick
11:10continues to continue that pace up to Seth,
11:13then I want to get around him because of Roof, but I won't try to slow him down.
11:16I'll let him climb his way up.
11:18But if Seth's starting to get away, you're going to see that number 40 dive on the inside.
11:21He's not able to make it.
11:22Oh, no.
11:23Oh, and he got it wrong.
11:25Just able to save it from a crash.
11:27It's the 47 of Kitchen.
11:28Yeah, that's the same corner we saw Joe Shimoda go down in.
11:32Joe was on the outside.
11:33These corners, what happens is they start getting a hook shape, like an L-shape into it.
11:37So you saw with Levi there, the bike goes in, it rebounds out, and it's almost like it gets light.
11:43They can't control it easy to go off on this racetrack.
11:46And just another challenge about how Thunder Valley, how it changes throughout the day.
11:51But it is still 1-2-3 for the Kawasaki riders.
11:55And Hamaker has been a sensation early in the year.
11:58Patting his points lead out front.
12:00Patting his points lead out front.
12:02Patting his points lead out front.
12:04So, I think he does.
12:09So, you know, if a guy hasn't had any clue, he can't。
12:12So, we're going to주 here at this right.
12:12So, I just don't want to take anám on this B-system, but it's still in effect.
12:16Hey, everyone, how unfortunate a contest is coming out soon.
12:25So, you know, removed the Magnum team?
18:40Yeah.
19:51And I think a lot of that,
19:52you know,
19:52you're looking at the past,
19:53you know,
20:07you know,
20:08jet launch or hey Deegan. So now that the class is more even, this opportunity, maybe they're not
20:13pressing so hard and they'll get those consistent results because they're not pushing so hard, Will.
20:19I was looking at the results because I'm thinking the same thing as you, Regent, and James, but
20:24actually we haven't had perhaps as consistent results as we might think. We're just used to
20:29seeing Pro Circuit out there because they've had solid results. But in these first four motos of
20:35the first two rounds, Parlor and Hangtown, none of these riders have been top five in all four motos,
20:42which is fascinating. And only two of them, Joe Shimoda and Satamaka, have managed to score inside
20:48the top ten for the first four. So maybe what we're seeing here is the start of a bit of
20:53consistency,
20:54but actually as yet, no one's really put it together. Yeah, I think what we're doing, we're
20:59moving the goalposts a little bit, you know, consistency in this class is like, all right,
21:03it's not top ten or top fifteen, but, you know, what we're saying, I guess consistently,
21:08they've been near the front there, even though they had some moments. But nonetheless,
21:13still great, and I'm happy that it's kind of all over the place because it's keeping
21:16this championship tight.
21:19Yes, in this class, it's just whose mistake, whose bad moto is less bad than the other rider.
21:26You know it's going to happen. No rider in this class has ever won this title before.
21:31Seth Hamaker has come close to championships in the stadium circuit of Monster Energy Supercross.
21:37But can he get it done on the bigger, faster, rougher outdoor circuits? He's going to have
21:42to deal with his teammate Levi Kitchen to get it done.
21:48And then we're going to go double. They're going to be headed for the big monster arch.
21:53They've got some motors to get hit and fly.
21:56He's going to get the right there.
21:58I'm going to take up just a little bit.
22:10By the kitchen, about a 1.8.
22:12He's going to be headed for the big monster.
22:47I'm going to start with the 6.
22:50I'm going to start with the 6.
22:50Let's go.
23:28Let's go.
23:51Let's go.
24:48Let's go.
24:52Let's go.
24:58Let's go.
25:01Let's go.
25:01Let's go.
25:29Let's go.
25:34Let's go.
25:37Let's go.
25:53Let's go.
25:55Let's go.
26:06Let's go.
26:22Let's go.
26:31Let's go.
26:33Let's go.
26:34Let's go.
27:01Let's go.
27:03Let's go.
27:04Let's go.
27:24Let's go.
27:28Let's go.
27:31Let's go.
27:37Let's go.
27:41Let's go.
27:59Let's go.
28:02Let's go.
28:03Let's go.
28:07Let's go.
28:09Let's go.
28:10Let's go.
28:16Let's go.
28:33Let's go.
28:45Let's go.
28:50Let's go.
28:55Let's go.
29:06Let's go.
29:18Let's go.
29:25Let's go.
29:32Let's go.
29:33Let's go.
29:41Let's go.
29:42Let's go.
29:44Let's go.
29:46Let's go.
29:48Let's go.
29:48Let's go.
29:49Let's go.
29:50Let's go.
29:50Let's go.
29:51Let's go.
29:51Let's go.
29:52Let's go.
29:53Let's go.
29:54Let's go.
29:57Let's go.
29:58Let's go.
30:00Let's go.
30:01Let's go.
30:02Let's go.
30:03Let's go.
30:04Woo! Game of chicken down there.
30:06Yeah. And Davies is going to win it.
30:09Wilmer fights back.
30:11Yeah, that pass is set up right
30:13out to the finish line. Cole Stark
30:14getting on the inside, keeping Julian
30:16guessing. And Julian kept guessing
30:18that Cole was able to make that attack.
30:21Nice move by the number 37.
30:23And like you said,
30:25if Davies stays in this championship
30:27hunt all summer,
30:28it could be rides like this. You won't get the
30:30headlines for a sixth place finish.
30:33But he's passed 10 riders
30:35since the first lap. You see the
30:36championship points early in this series.
30:38Right now, Hamaker would stretch his gap
30:40a little bit. But there are 22
30:43individual motos, and this is only
30:45the fifth of the year. So plenty of time
30:46from the likes of Shimoda or Davies,
30:49Colbert, and many others to get back
30:50in it. We check in with the visitor here
30:53from Belgium, Sasha Kunin.
30:54Lightning fast in qualifying, second
30:56quickest overall.
30:58But two crashes early in this race
31:00has set him back, and he's 16.
31:03Yeah, he's running.
31:04I mean, a decent lap times.
31:062'11". I mean, he's three,
31:08four seconds faster than the guys in front of him.
31:10But that crash, start, crash,
31:14hinders him. But I bet he's probably
31:16disappointed. But I'm telling you,
31:18when we talked to these kids earlier and yesterday,
31:20the excitement level from Boak brothers,
31:22I don't think they really care how they
31:24finish. They're happy to be here.
31:25And the stories you will share earlier
31:28about, you know, me. It's just,
31:29it's a blessing. But at the same time,
31:32man, it's just really cool to see them come over here
31:34and how much they enjoy being here.
31:37The championship leader in the equivalent
31:39250 series in
31:42MXGP.
31:44But they are hoping
31:45he and his brother to maybe be able to move
31:47and race full-time in the United States in the
31:49near future, maybe next year, maybe a few years
31:51out. And this is a quick way
31:53to learn how the game is played on
31:55this side of the Atlantic.
31:58Wait a minute.
31:59Levi Kitchen has moved back to
32:01the rear fender of the leader, Seth
32:04Hammackers. Yeah, Levi
32:05made a mistake there and a
32:07couple laps ago and we saw Seth
32:09might have had it or maybe Levi was sitting
32:11back waiting to attack. But now,
32:13I don't think he's going to wait, you know,
32:15to let this thing play out once he's getting to him.
32:17If he wants to win this race, he's going to jump
32:19on him no matter what section he is.
32:21But as soon as he gets there, a little mistake
32:23there and then Seth pulled away.
32:47You've got to have your best.
32:48Oh, I don't matter.
32:49It's heart attack time.
32:50I hear.
32:52Yeah, I mean, truthfully,
32:53I don't think that
32:54in any way,
32:55these guys are tired.
32:57I mean, the way they're riding.
32:58And sometimes you get in a flow as Levi
33:00Oh, he's going to flow down.
33:01All right, he's going to probably go outside.
33:04Seth's going inside.
33:05Let's see if he can get out of this rut.
33:07Get alongside his teammate. There he goes.
33:09To the inside. Levi
33:11gets into the lead.
33:12What a pass by Levi.
33:15Running that line that whole race.
33:17And as I said earlier, it wasn't the fastest,
33:18but it was smooth.
33:19And one lap, no quit.
33:22And he is sprinting toward the white flag.
33:25Levi Kitchen saving the best for last.
33:28The rider out of Washington State.
33:30Hammering down.
33:32And the last lap by Levi Kitchen
33:34was the fastest lap of the race.
33:36At a 2.08.
33:38Three seconds faster than his teammate.
33:40Honey, the kitchen wide over there.
33:43Check. Not tired.
33:44Not tired.
33:46Not tired.
33:47Impressive.
33:48Especially racing at 6,000 feet of elevation.
33:51Now, Michael Moseman, who had rallied to third,
33:53went down.
33:53He has dropped fifth.
33:55Joe Shimoda, who had a crash early in the race.
33:57The rider out of Japan,
33:59has moved back into the number three spot.
34:01This fight is just behind Shimoda.
34:04You've got Romano in green in fourth.
34:07Moseman and Davies are the next two riders through
34:10in that green gear.
34:11Yeah, this would be a...
34:13If somehow Cole can at least get one of these guys,
34:15maybe even both of them,
34:16it would be great.
34:17Not only for the championship,
34:18but also this overall today.
34:20So, great ride by Cole Davies.
34:22And marches way all the way back up into the top ten.
34:25He close to maybe possibly fifth.
34:27That's showing a lot for the number 37.
34:30Moseman and Shimoda both had problems in this moto,
34:33but good recoveries from then.
34:49For a 16-year-old named Carson Wood,
34:53he's quick at the test track.
34:55They decided to see how it would go at the pro rank.
34:58Struggling a bit in this moto in 27.
35:00But they have so much talent under that tent.
35:04But so far this year,
35:06it has been the Kawasaki riders getting the jump on everyone.
35:09A lot of laps led again for Seth Hamaker.
35:11But it is Levi Kitchen who won the race in California last weekend.
35:15Back up front again.
35:16Yes, he is.
35:17I believe this race was even more impressive than that first one he won.
35:20Which is the way he did it.
35:22Making that mistake on a tough race track.
35:24And to really close down on Seth with two laps left.
35:28Seven seconds.
35:29Take it away, kid.
35:32Would you say?
35:33Kitchen's open?
35:34Absolutely.
35:35The chef's cooking today.
35:37Waited to the end for the charge.
35:39And now the checkers for Levi Kitchen.
35:45Championship leader Hamaker will maintain that early season point lead
35:48with a solid run in second.
35:50He's been the best starter in the class by far.
35:52And that is paying off with some consistent rides.
35:55And Joe Shimoda, crash and all, still going to take third.
35:59Yeah, great comeback for Joe.
36:03It looks like Romano.
36:07Yeah.
36:07And a whole top in fourth over Davies.
36:11Boat's been there.
