00:00a little different than the other side. What do you guys do and why is it going to be beneficial?
00:17What do we think? It's going to be helpful if you think? It should be, yeah. Okay. Is he
00:22confident in it? Absolutely. Thanks, Christian. We saw the picture there. It's almost like they
00:27welded a foot peg behind the foot peg. He was obviously not happy. If you watched the show
00:33last week at Redbud, the way he was riding with the foot ankle injury, maybe that'll help.
00:38Crash right there. Yeah, we just lost Hunter Lawrence as we're on the top box. And then,
00:44yeah, this is that foot peg thing. And kind of been talking about this since Paula, you know,
00:48some of those harder landings. And I think what this to do is allow Jet to kind of be more
00:53balanced
00:54on a motorcycle. If he was kind of nursing that injury, kind of staying off that because
00:59he doesn't want to flex, then he'll put all this weight on the other side. So it is to help
01:02him
01:02balance out, just changes to keep him going. JT? Yeah, I agree with that. And I think it's also
01:08just going to take some of the burden off of that foot, right? I think it's probably getting a little
01:14tired. He's having to overcompensate with his left leg to make up for the lack of strength in the
01:19right. So an extra platform there. He's going to be able to rest that foot. And we'll see if that
01:24makes a difference late in the motives. Remember last week at Redbud, he was fine until the last
01:28five, maybe five minutes. You saw Hunter really lay into it. He could not go with it. So we'll see
01:33if there's a difference there.
01:37They're still trying. We saw the frustration last week. And
01:43we're wondering also, is this a track thing? I obviously won the second and third round for the
01:47championship. We thought, well, he's good enough to win for sure. He just proved it.
01:51And then he was really frustrated at Redbud coming down the hills and trying to get the bike in the
01:54ruts. How do you think it'll work today? Yeah, we talked about this on the call
01:59earlier this weekend. And initially, I thought for sure this track could be a lot better,
02:03but that was more with braking. But that's more of a flex thing. And, you know, him trying to be
02:08on
02:08the balls of his feet, trying to keep it, it'll for sure help him. You know, the tracks that you're
02:13going a lot of g-forces downhills like last weekend and some of the other ones for sure help,
02:18maybe a little bit more than this one. But nonetheless, it's more about having that balance,
02:22being more comfortable, and also having that backup plan where you don't have to be so
02:27thinking about it so much because you have that length back there to keep that foot up.
02:31And it's really become the new school style. All the riders trying to be on their toes and the
02:35ball, their foot. But yeah, his ankle with the limited flexibility, that might work against him a bit.
02:39Here is Hunter, who's now picked it back up for the fastest time overall right now as a championship
02:45leader. Hunter is good, yeah. The slower rider, he stayed in that berm. You notice how
02:54he does so well, it's like he'll allow that bike to flow into these corners and get in there,
02:59but not put his weight on it to the point where it's going to slow it down. Like even there,
03:03just being really light on the bike and even just thinking about jet. This is where,
03:08maybe this is where he's missing as we're watching Mitchell getting a little cool down here.
03:14But Hunter's doing really good, JT.
03:16Yeah, just wondering, and this may be a question more for our stats man,
03:20Quentin Fowler, but if it ended like this, when would be the last time that one of the
03:24Lawrence brothers was not in the top two of fastest qualifying in this class? I would venture a
03:29guess. It's been years since that happened. Maybe Chase Sexton would have been our fastest
03:33quarter a few times, but this would be a notable shift as far as qualifying lap times go.
03:39Yeah, thanks JT. And maybe Prado a little bit under talked about coming into this race,
03:44because there's so much talk about the Tunins and the Lawrence's on top. But Prado had his best race,
03:49really, you could argue, of the year last time out at Redbud. I know he got second overall also at
03:53the
03:53opener, but he led a lot at Redbud and we thought, okay, this could be the day where he wins
03:58his first.
03:58He's good on sand too. Now let's see what's happening here. Is JT headed back?
04:02Yeah, he has to be, and the cannon's going back. So yeah, that is curious what's going on there.
04:12Oh man, every time you see a little setback for him, you know it's frustrating for him. You hate
04:17to see it. You want to see all these guys be at their best. But he did mention that they
04:23did make
04:23a change in between that first one, first qualifying section to this one. So maybe that's
04:28it if you don't like it. And what we talked about in that 250 class, your time's locked in. So,
04:34oh, he's practicing starts. Okay, we're okay. He's back in the track.
04:37Any movement, any movement, you see his mechanic going back, we've got to make news of it.
04:42Oh, I'm with you, man. I'm with you.
04:42My bad, Jett. My bad.
04:44Especially after what we just saw happen at Shimoda in the 250 session,
04:48where he crashed early and then just went back to the paddock.
04:51Get you back up to Hunter here. There's Jett. Yeah, he's fine.
04:55I don't need to go fast. Just hold a shot.
04:57I'd love to see it. JT.
04:59Yeah, that's kind of what I was talking about at the top of the RDL show here.
05:02The track is what it's going to be. It's going to be very difficult,
05:05although Cole Davies may have something to say about it. The track's very difficult to
05:08best your time. And for a guy like Jett Lawrence, who hasn't been able to ride as much during the
05:13week as he'd like, there's probably only so many laps he has in himself for today at his fastest pace.
05:18So he's not going to waste them on a racetrack that is not going to change his qualifying game pick.
05:24So if you feel comfortable with the bike, if you feel comfortable with your settings,
05:27this isn't necessarily a bad move. And James Stewart, this is a move I would have seen you do years
05:31ago,
05:32is you're just going to save it and bring it in the first moto.
05:35Yeah, I would just have to out of row back. I would have to ride back. But yeah,
05:38I agree with that JT. And he's at that point, he's the fastest in this qualified session. So
05:44I think he's got that speed locked in pretty well. Deegan's got some speed locked in here. Look at
05:48this. He is ripping right now. But yes, Jett Lawrence, actually the fastest time in this session.
05:53And as you watch Deegan, hey JT, you put the stat man to the task. He does not fail. Clinton
05:59Fowler,
05:59the last time Lawrence's were not first or second. You go back to Thunder Valley last year. Justin
06:06Cooper, Eli Tomac won two. So it's been over a year since they've been worse than first or second
06:13in qualifying. Man, Deegan is hustling here. Yeah, he looks good. I like the line that he had a
06:18couple of corners ago going to that inside. And with this racetrack, it is always changing. And
06:24some of these lines that maybe might not be the fastest right now, but it's going to work out.
06:29Even this inside, that's good when your second moto riding up on those stakes, keeping away from
06:35those berms and saving some energy. So Hayden looks pretty good. And it's a rare weekend that we come
06:40in and he's not the focus of the conversation, you know, with the Kunis and the Lawrence's. But
06:46whatever that is, I'm sure Hayden will turn that into a little motivation.
06:50That's right. Talk about him. That's motivation. Don't talk about him.
06:53He'll use that as motivation too. He admits it and
06:58Hayden and his teammate Cooper Webb, they came to Southwick after High Point to get in some sad
07:03testing. There's Jett still ready for a practice start. You see that modified foot peg on the right
07:08side. See where Deegan went in this session. Third. Okay, so it's Jett, Lawrence, Lucas Kuhn,
07:15and Hayden Deegan now. Third fastest on track. That was a good lap for the 38.
07:21And there's the practice start from Jett.
07:25And I can't remember. You can help me out here. I don't think all the gates have that
07:29concrete patch over here, does it, when you get across the start? You know, it's funny. This was
07:34the track that was known for the concrete start back when tracks could do whatever they wanted.
07:38Some were dirt. Some were concrete. Yeah, you're right. So it might still be a unique piece
07:44of Southwick. So you're saying it's great concrete. Yeah, it looks like it's so great,
07:48then the concrete, then the dirt. JT.
07:51Yeah, I just was looking at Jett's foot peg. And, you know, Weege and I spoke with Lars
07:55Lindstrom via text right before the session. They said they had another modification coming. You could
07:59see, as Christian said, they bent the rear of that down, which would tell me that it was probably
08:05changing too much the position of him sitting on the foot peg. So lowering the rear there would
08:11allow him to move around a little bit more and probably not prop his foot forward as much as he
08:16needed to. So this is all a last minute part. They just got it overnight. This is the first
08:21time he's ever tried it. So you're probably going to see this thing move around a bit during the day
08:24if they continue to use it. Yeah, it's a key thing to point out that he is not tested with
08:29this during the week. They haven't been able to use multiple variations. So I'm sure they're just
08:33trying to get that extension, the height of it, just perfect where it helps him if he gets real deep
08:38on a hard landing, but not too much. And there's that concrete you're talking about there? Yeah,
08:42this part right here. I don't notice that at other tracks. And it's hard because you go off that
08:47really a lot of tracks off that grate and then you spin on that concrete and then you drop into
08:52that
08:52the sand. So a lot of things happening in a short period of time. And I think that's I actually
08:58remember that really challenging here. Back in my day, we're still dirt to that piece and then back to
09:03dirt. So yeah, little nuances here that Southwake, just another challenge they like to throw at us here.
09:09The next challenge is just how much rougher this track is going to get with each passing lap.
09:16Yeah, that piece is interesting when they talk about Jet because I even remember that section
09:20he just went through, how he's really patient. We saw him battling with Chase X and Eli here going
09:26slower, hopping over those those things as we just watch Lucas. Yeah, like this same section,
09:33we saw Jet here as his part gets rougher, he'll slow down and hop over that that bump so he
09:38doesn't
09:38get in that berm too fast. And you know, thinking maybe that foot peg would maybe stop some of that
09:43because you got to use your your legs to be able to hop over those things. So whatever it is,
09:48I mean,
09:49obviously, he's pretty comfortable with it. Little changes that he's going to have to doubt with
09:52downwind here today at Southwake. It'll be foot peg watch for Jet. Wow, that was impressive from the 104.
10:03Wheelie through all those bumps.
10:07Kunins were here for press day yesterday. I feel they were both kind of downplaying the sand thing.
10:11They are from Belgium. That is traditionally sandy terrain. They have since moved to France because
10:16they wanted to become more versatile and ride harder dirt. They just kept saying they're just
10:21here to have fun. Every track's new to them, but the stopwatch shows they still know how to ride this
10:27stuff. Yeah, they do. It's but you watch him ride. That's what I get really impressive. It's just
10:33like jetting that that he's racing against. Watch him just hop over to some of these bumps being very light,
10:39even just jumping farther out on these singles. And here at Southwake, you can turn this racetrack
10:44almost into a supercross track, even stuff like that, jumping out, doubling into some of these
10:49bumps. And it makes it a lot smoother what he's doing right there, keeping that front end up,
10:53keeping it light. And man, it looks good, Katie. Yeah, the team manager here for Red Bull KC of Ian
11:00Harrison. I just asked you how impressed you are with this. And you said very top of the charts here
11:04in this qualifying session. How much does this meet and match the expectations that you had coming into
11:10this event weekend? Well, I've heard all these rumors about how good they are in this
11:13sand, and they definitely are. And I'm just happy overall with the team because Jorge is also up
11:18there. So I think we're in for a good race today. As it relates to the team morale, kind of
11:23having
11:23this European vibe and flair within the paddock, how special is it to see everybody coming together
11:28here? Yeah, I'm just amazed that they can handle all of this, like being in South Africa a week ago
11:33and now being here and what it is to be young, you know? How hard it is to pack those
11:38bags? Yeah, exactly.
11:40But yeah, I think they're looking forward to it. This is what they grew up on. So I think they're
11:45really ready for today. Thank you, Ian, for your time. JT? Yeah, I'm just going to add on the, you
11:50know,
11:50they're downplaying their sand skills. But, you know, they moved to France because they wanted to get
11:55better at hard pack because they already had sand diet. There was a reason that they felt it wasn't
12:00necessary to ride in the sand. And I heard a rumor that if you're born in the Netherlands, you're born
12:04in
12:04Belgium, they're actually given a scoop tire at birth. And in the birthing room, right after
12:09you name the children, you're handed a scoop tire. I think that's why you see those guys so fast here.
12:14But yeah, don't let them downplay the we moved to France to ride hard packets because they were so
12:19good at this already. Yes, and the record will show it, the performance in the sand conditions in
12:25Europe. Been fun to see Lucas and Jett together here. Are they hooking up? Or are they just coincidence?
12:33Yeah, I think, I mean, when you're just fast, you just, you hook up with everybody. But no,
12:37I don't think Jett's putting in a super lap time and maybe Lucas is following them.
12:43Not a bad person to follow. But one thing I will point out is with the Bo brothers,
12:49they are on Pirelli tires. And that is different from everybody else. So we know how good the Pirelli
12:55sand tire is. Dunlocks is great as well. So maybe that's something we have to pay attention to.
13:01That's different from everybody else. These two guys so far, with them being top of both practices,
13:08you never know where that's contributing to. Yeah, that is true. Because in the GPs,
13:13that's the dominant tire over there. So they bring Pirellis and the Pirelli support with them.
13:18Prado, the rest of the KTM team, they're normally a Dunlop squad here in America. So they've had to adapt
13:23in that sense. Before we continue, make sure you're subscribed to the channel. That way you
13:29won't miss any of the upcoming motocross motos. If you haven't subscribed yet, hit that subscribe button
