00:31So fans getting in America, I would say their first look at Sasha Trunin. Now they did race in America
00:37at Motocross of Nations last year, but this is the first pro motocross experience and well Sasha's bringing what he's
00:43known for. He hangs it out JT and he's doing it right now.
00:46He's not scared to go for it. I was watching the 450 qualifiers a few minutes ago thinking about the
00:51differences that both of them are dealing with coming over and specifically with the motorcycle.
00:56Now Lucas said yesterday on his bike that the chassis was different. He wasn't sure if it was good or
01:02bad, but different.
01:03I asked Sasha the same question, like, hey, how is this particular production-based chassis that our series is required
01:10to use versus your factory one?
01:11It said, I'm just using the same frame. I don't really like the factory-based frame in Europe, so I
01:16have been running a production frame all along.
01:18So a little bit of a coup there for Sasha. He doesn't have to change frames away from something he's
01:23so comfortable with, so it's going to be a little bit closer to what he's used to.
01:26A coup for Kunin. We said how excited these twins are to be racing here. We asked Sasha about it
01:31yesterday.
01:33Let's say it was our dream to come over here, so last year we were speaking about it, but we
01:38couldn't really make it happen, let's say.
01:40And this year we said, like, oh, we're going to go over to three races, and, yeah, we find the
01:44right moment to do it.
01:45So we are really happy and really looking forward to make our dream happen, let's say.
01:51Yeah, and if everyone's wondering why did they pick Thunder Valley, it's just a schedule.
01:54It happens to be an off-weekend in MXGP. There's another one for Southwick.
01:58That'll be very interesting to get them at the sand race in a few weeks.
02:02And they're also thinking Ironman. That is another off-weekend for their championship.
02:06But this is a bit of a risk. Point leaders coming in, and they don't have to do this. They
02:11just want to.
02:12Yeah, absolutely, and I think it's always like, well, you're trying to find out why. Why?
02:18You know, it can't be because they just love racing. Well, no, it actually is.
02:23And, you know, especially for Sasha. I mean, even for Lucas, to be able to go back-to-back in
02:28the GP championship would be huge.
02:30But this would be his first-ever title in that MXGP class.
02:33So it is taking a big chance, and I'm sure the team over there was like, we want to support
02:39you, but also we don't because we want to do it.
02:41There's a lot of pressure on them, but I had a chance to talk to them yesterday and got to
02:46know them.
02:46It's the first time I ever met them and then seen them in person.
02:49And I can't tell you, like, I'm a huge fan of them just because of everything they just told me.
02:53But really cool to see just the love of their sport.
02:56I mean, all these guys got it, but you don't really see that in these sports.
03:00When you have something to lose, and they do have a lot to lose, to me, when it comes to
03:05that series, if something happens here, they don't care.
03:08They just want to ride the dirt bikes, and, man, I can't have nothing but respect for that.
03:13I can tell you this. He's not riding conservatively.
03:17It's a point. They need to protect over there. He is going for it.
03:20Yeah, I don't think they know how, and I'm going to be honest with you.
03:24I did not know they were twins until we found out.
03:27I did not know because, one, they're a little different in size, but really just how it seems like their
03:32personalities are, you know, on the motorcycle.
03:35Sasha's very, look, I'm a let it hang out kind of person.
03:38Lucas is real methodical, like, reminds me of Ryan Dungey-ish, the way he kind of looks on the KTM.
03:43And Sasha kind of reminds me of me, man.
03:45I just want to go fast and see how fast I can go, and I'm going to go until I
03:48hit the ground.
03:49It doesn't matter, but clearly these boys know how to ride, and they're going to show us today.
03:54Times are changing in a hurry now.
03:56Cole Davies has taken the top qualifying time.
03:59He was second in Session 1, now leading Session 2.
04:02And overall, Colbert, another good run after a great start to the season.
04:06He's second quickest.
04:07Primus, last year's dominant winner, third quickest.
04:11And Lux Turner showing speed again.
04:13But Luka Koonin, at the moment, he's got a quicker pace than Davies.
04:17Yeah, no, he's going good.
04:18And you see him coming up just a little bit short in that corner.
04:22Off that jump kind of affects that corner a little bit.
04:25It's kind of the same line as Hunter Lawrence, but you notice how the bike stood up.
04:28He had the back out of it.
04:29One thing about Luka, I mean, Sasha, he rides a lot of outsides.
04:33He carries a lot of speed, momentum into the corners, but also through it.
04:37So, a little turndown for what?
04:39And back on top.
04:41He is once again the fast qualifier.
04:44What a debut.
04:45Then Nick Toole.
04:46Yeah, that's right.
04:47You know what time it is?
04:48Let's go, Nick Toole.
04:49Man.
04:50Going to check in with Kitchen now.
04:52Yeah, good trivia on your part.
04:54Remember back that race that he won when he was with Monster Yamaha Star Racing.
04:59Jet Lawrence couldn't catch him that day in the 250 class.
05:01Yeah, that's the one thing with Levi.
05:03Once the kitchen's open, man, look, everybody's getting served.
05:07And then I think, I believe the next moto, he's got like 11th or something.
05:11Right.
05:11Or the first moto.
05:12You know, like, no, there really was no crashes, but Levi's found that consistency this year
05:17as we're watching Austin Forkner pick his bike up.
05:20Another rider who's had a tough start to this season.
05:23But, yeah, when it goes to Levi, when he's feeling good, man, this kid has some speed that's second to
05:29none
05:30and he's got to bring it today.
05:32So, he won the last race at Panktown with two-two scores,
05:36but a lot of it was coming through the pack in both motos.
05:40He avoided the big first-turn crash, but wasn't able to win either of the motos,
05:43but still got the overall, JT.
05:45He did get the overall, but I'm curious as to how this is going to go,
05:49because we all know the one thing that's been holding Levi Kitchen back are the starts.
05:53And I'm sure he's sick of talking about it.
05:54I'm sure he's sick of practicing starts, but they have still been a liability nonetheless.
05:58And you think about the setup here, grand elevation, less power,
06:02and it's just a drag race up the hill here at Thunder Valley.
06:05If he does not get off the line clean, it is going to be very difficult for him to find
06:10success today.
06:11Yeah, I agree.
06:12And it probably goes back to what we were saying,
06:14how he won that moto against Jett Lawrence and then finished, you know, 11th or 12th,
06:18the next one strictly off the start.
06:21But you notice how he overjumped that little double, actually really didn't overjump it.
06:25He missed his mark, and then he missed that inside.
06:27And this lap, you can throw it out the window from that one little bobble right there.
06:32It cost him this whole lap.
06:33So he has to regroup and do it again.
06:35Checking in with Hammock, or the championship leader, won Route 1, won the first moto last week.
06:40Then that massive first-turn crash, he got ping-ponged around, and that cost him big time.
06:46It's only six quickest right now.
06:48Cole Davies, second fastest.
06:49Let's see if he can go back to the top, watch the 37 in the top box.
06:53Yeah, I feel like this is a Cole Davies track, kind of like Chance Hymus.
06:56These guys are very methodical around, especially in Supercross.
07:00You know, I think one of the things Cole had to work on is just really letting it hang out.
07:03And he will do that the more he rides outdoors.
07:05But this track will slow down.
07:07He'll get these ruts, and that riding style will tend to play dividends here.
07:11But he has to get off the race, off the gate.
07:15One of the pro circuit riders, I believe, tipped over there, right?
07:18Yeah.
07:18Not Hamaker, because he's still going.
07:20Yeah, Mitch got a full squad this weekend.
07:22Yeah.
07:23So they upgraded Enzo Temmerman.
07:25The rookie was riding his team green amateur bike last week.
07:29He has been moved over to the pro circuit team, and Drew Adams is back.
07:32So now they have five riders along with Romano, Hamaker, and Kitchen.
07:36Hamaker still only six quickest.
07:39That was beautiful.
07:40Cole Davies just wide open in that corner, and he was like that because he's actually fallen over.
07:45You know, front end started losing.
07:47You've got to gas it.
07:48Meant to do that.
07:49Meant to do that.
07:50Planted.
07:51Will, what are you hearing on the 37?
07:53Well, we know that Cole Davies is a man of few words, right?
07:57You're that on the podium.
07:59But I love talking to him, because whilst he's a man of few words, he gets to the point and
08:04says what he means.
08:05And I asked him yesterday about, obviously, the moto win there last weekend, but just generally, what people's opinion is.
08:12Everybody's sort of like thinking he's the supercross kid because they haven't seen the outdoor results yet.
08:17And what he thinks of that.
08:19He brushes the whole thing off.
08:20He seems very in control of where he is mentally, of his progression through these first two rounds and into
08:28today.
08:28And he just said to me, I don't even worry about it.
08:31I've got it figured out.
08:32Don't worry about it.
08:32And what we do know about Cole talking to his family, to his team, is that he's a learning machine.
08:39He's been described by Will Hahn, his trainer there, as somewhat of a computer.
08:43You know, they tell him, this is what you need to do.
08:45This is what's missing.
08:45He goes out there and he gets the job done.
08:48So the rate that he's learning, I'm fascinated to see what that moto win from last weekend, James is going
08:55to do this weekend.
08:56And if he's going to be able to really learn at the pace that clearly he thinks he's on.
09:00Well, clearly he's learning because, I mean, he's only a thousandth, five thousandths off of this guy right here.
09:06His lap's going to be thrown out the window.
09:08There's a couple of mistakes.
09:09But, yeah, Cole's definitely not the one.
09:12He's not going to waste any air in the room, you know, with the nonsense.
09:16And, you know, it's easy to believe because the kid's got some skills and he's been able to prove it.
09:20Wow, he actually went faster.
09:22Wow.
09:23He must have really had something going on somewhere else.
09:25He's getting part of the lap.
09:27But, yeah, I think Cole understands how good he is.
09:31And winning races allows you to do that.
09:33The other guy that needs to find that same formula as Cole Davies is this guy right here.
09:39One of the most talented guys in this class, along with Levi Kitchen.
09:43That is Chance Hyman.
09:45And so, big weekend for all of them.
09:47But, at the same time, you can tell the guys who's had some great finishes, they're, look where they're at.
09:52They're stacking up here on top of this leaderboard.
09:55Yeah.
09:55And that includes Bomer, still third quickest.
09:57He has been a revelation coming back from injury.
09:59Podium guy in those first two rounds, battling for moto podiums and overall podiums each time out.
10:04See if Kitchen can get a little better here.
10:06He's only ninth fastest.
10:09And they're all chasing Sasha Coon.
10:11And what a debut, at least to qualify.
10:13We'll see how the motos go.
10:14But impressive.
10:16Yeah, very impressive.
10:17One tricky part about this racetrack is weird because you can go fast, like, really hang it out, you know,
10:24take some chances.
10:24But you can really only do that out front, you know, because all the lines, that whole section that Levi
10:30went through, it's one long run.
10:32So, if you've got somebody in front of you, you're kind of looking at them, making the mistakes.
10:35So, one of those tracks that you get a bad start, it's hard to make up time.
10:39But if you're out front, you can just let it loose and rod this track, I would say, almost like
10:44Justin Marshall, really just kind of slamming into it.
10:47But that does not work in the pack because of the way this racetrack formulates.
10:51And, yeah, I'm going to go back to the start.
10:53You're going to have to get up the gate.
10:55JT.
10:56Yeah, Jim, just listening to you talk about there about pushing on this racetrack.
10:59And I'm wondering if that makes Sasha Kunin feel a little bit more comfortable.
11:03The MXGP tracks, let's just say, not as favorable conditions as we have here today.
11:09As you see, Levi Kitching across the finish line.
11:11I think there's an opportunity there.
11:13They can push harder and not feel as sketchy as they normally would simply because the track here is going
11:18to allow it more than it would on their usual.
11:21Yeah, I agree with that.
11:22And not saying they're bad.
11:24They're just different.
11:25And I think our tracks are really fun racetracks to rod.
11:29They're very open.
11:30So I think the combination of the track, as we're watching Seth try to put down another fast lap, the
11:35combination of the track, but also being down on power,
11:38I think it'll allow him to really kind of just open up to where he really feels like he's in
11:42control of that motorcycle.
11:43He can hang off.
11:44It's not going to get away from him.
11:46And so far, he's doing good coming over here and topping the leaderboard so far.
11:51Just saw Hymas discussing things in the mechanics area with his team.
11:56Here is Handmaker.
11:59Kitchen, by the way, with that lap you watched, did move to fourth quickest.
12:16Keeps that going.
12:17It's going to help him big time to maintain that point lead.
12:19And he just jumped ahead of Kitchen to fourth quickest.
12:22Yeah, the track's really speeding up.
12:24You know, it didn't look like they were going faster a few mistakes.
12:28So I wonder if that just the track's drawing out is getting harder, it's not pulling the power down,
12:32or is the beginning part of the racetrack sped up a lot to where they, you know, making up a
12:38lot of time there.
12:38So Cole Davies straight to the top.
12:40Whoa, that just happened.
12:41That lap just did it.
12:43Woo.
12:43Hey, come back, Cole.
12:44We need you.
12:45Yeah.
12:45We need you.
12:46Now we got Michael on another one.
12:48Another fast lap.
12:49Michael Mosemans, no stranger, going fast as well.
12:53Man, Davies is such a character.
12:55I interviewed him yesterday, and I said, hey, you're learning the tracks.
12:58You didn't get to race pro motocross last year.
13:00Are you actually happy that you, by the fourth mode of the year, already got a win?
13:04And he said, I always wanted it to happen before that.
13:07He wanted to win the first moto of the year.
13:09He didn't want to wait until moto number four.
13:11Yeah, I think with these younger guys and all the access, and because we have.
