00:00that championship, but they were pretty quick this morning as well.
00:02Before we continue, make sure you're subscribed to the channel.
00:04That way, you won't miss any of the upcoming motocross motos.
00:08If you haven't subscribed yet, hit that subscribe button now.
00:11Remember that right-handed first corner, guys, will not be able to hit their brakes, so you
00:15see a lot of pileup, but hopefully everybody can get through it.
00:18Cannon was the fastest in the opening qualifying session, the B Group, this morning.
00:23Clearly comfortable on sand, but again, they have never raced in the United States.
00:38Here we go, Southwood for the one.
00:44Davies and Kooning, great launches, Kooning comes in hot.
00:48Can he hold on to it?
00:49Davies gets it.
00:51Boy, did he come in hot.
00:52I actually thought Lucas, guys, Sasha got a great jump, but look at this battle.
00:56You can tell who wants to be out front.
00:57It is Sasha jumping ahead of Cole Davies.
01:00He almost goes down right there.
01:02This kid's here.
01:03He's gone down, nearly gone down a couple of times, but oh, and just held on to it.
01:09Hey, it's a wild ride with Sasha.
01:10The speed is there.
01:12Yes, he will fall a time or two throughout most race weekends when he's back at MXGP,
01:16but he held on to it this time, and he has the lead.
01:19Yeah, Cole's probably looking out like, man, that boy, that boy, crazy out there.
01:22He's going for it, but that's what he does, and this kid is so good in the opening laps.
01:27He takes those chances, but here today, you can already start to see that gap,
01:31and I believe once he gets that gap, you might see what he did in Thunder Valley.
01:35Be able to calm down.
01:36He's going to be hard to beat.
01:37He won the second moto.
01:38Yeah, there in Thunder Valley.
01:40Almost tucked it again, JT.
01:42I hope he signed the waiver because this is a Sasha Coonan experience.
01:46It's high risk, high reward.
01:48When it works, he wins.
01:49When it doesn't, he finds himself on the ground.
01:52So far, we've got a little bit of both.
01:54Yeah, those are crashes where he just didn't fall.
01:56Somehow with those saves, Davies hitching a ride in second.
02:01Fans loving it.
02:03Yeah, I mean, how can you not?
02:04He's coming over here, and I think the thing for Sasha is he hasn't raced these guys a lot.
02:09You know, only once really, so he doesn't know the speed compared to where his series.
02:13Maybe he won't be so, you know, wide open, I would say, out here because he knows these guys.
02:19Right now, he's just running away, trying to go, and he's going to look back,
02:22almost have a two-second lead on this opening lap.
02:26It's going to be Haidus up to fourth behind DeFrancisco.
02:30Then Cochran and Kitchen coming through next.
02:34One lap in the books.
02:35Sasha Coonan leads.
02:36Let's go to Katie.
02:37One of the things that's really cool about Southwick is the mechanics area here behind me,
02:41and you're going to see these bikes coming by at around 40 to 50 miles per hour.
02:45On those 450s, it's like between 60 and 70.
02:48Now, Cole Davies made some changes here on his bike in qualifying between the two sessions.
02:54Check out this seat, of course.
02:55Wow, best seat in the house, guys.
02:57I'm telling you what, this is awesome.
02:58But as these guys are going by, Cole Davies did make a change there in qualifying to make that bike
03:03a little bit more comfortable,
03:04and he was stoked that he put together that fast lap in that second qualifying where many people weren't able
03:09to do that.
03:10I'm just going to live this up right here, guys.
03:12I'm going to get back to racing.
03:12This is awesome.
03:13It's not often on a hot and humid day we're jealous of not being outside, Katie,
03:17but you do have the best spot in the house at Southwick as Coonan gets away from Davies.
03:22Now, Davies has never ridden this track either.
03:25Almost all these tracks are new to him.
03:26I talked to Cole's mechanic earlier, and he said, yeah, MX Bikes, the computer sim game,
03:31apparently doesn't get it done because his first practice session wasn't so good.
03:35Davies was the fastest in the second session.
03:38But we're going to show you the gap here.
03:41There's Coonan, there's Davies.
03:42Yeah, well, I think Cole's in a tough spot, really,
03:45because right now he's doing exactly what he needs to do with Joe Shimoda being out, Levi Mahana.
03:49He's got this championship to worry about as he takes a look back.
03:53Sasha's not in it, but at the same time, you want to go after that one of 109 up front,
03:57JT.
03:58Yeah, and realistically, I think you kind of have to just keep your head about you, right?
04:02Whatever Sasha Coonan does for this championship is completely irrelevant.
04:05He already kind of caught a break with his Shimoda injury.
04:09The championship's looking up.
04:10He's got a little bit of a gap to GiFrancisco.
04:12So if you can just take the pride out of it and not think so much about Coonan,
04:16this is exactly what he needs to be doing.
04:19Yeah, I agree with that.
04:21And I think at the same time, this track's a lot different than it was earlier.
04:25So they're going to have to adjust and be in your first time.
04:28Maybe it's just new to Cole all in general.
04:30Nonetheless, he looks good.
04:32So with Shimoda out with the collarbone injury, the point leader,
04:36one of the other title contenders that's going to have a focus on him now is Levi Kitchen.
04:40But what happened?
04:41He lost him behind the tree.
04:42Yeah, it looks like he goes down.
04:44Yeah, you can see him on the inside of the racetrack.
04:46So, yeah, maybe what we saw in Sasha almost do the same thing.
04:50The first couple laps, Levi gets bit by it.
04:53Not the way you want to start the race.
04:55And that's going to put Kitchen back tonight behind Garcia, the visitor from Spain.
05:00Kitchen able to make the move on him.
05:03And he's right behind Beaumere, who's fourth in point.
05:06So they got work to do.
05:07Yeah, but that was a good move by Levi to be able to.
05:09Normally when a guy goes down, it takes him a couple laps or a full lap to get the rhythm
05:14back.
05:14Levi already made that pass.
05:16And I just showed you how important he understands how important this race is to get up there with Cole
05:20Davies,
05:21the guy he needs to chase down for his points at the moment.
05:24Good move by Levi.
05:25Let's see if he can continue to move on.
05:30There's Beaumere.
05:32Battling it out with Kitchen.
05:34Beaumere, the Orange 13, the Red Bull KTM.
05:37Had speed last week.
05:38Happy with the way he rode.
05:39But it doesn't show in the results.
05:41Got stuck on the track on lap one of the first moto.
05:45And then two crashes in the second moto.
05:47Look at this, Garcia.
05:49He's got a line looking to pass Kitchen back.
05:51Yeah, that was all caused because of Levi made a mistake in the corner four.
05:55This is actually the second time in the last couple of corners that I've seen him outside the berm.
06:00And come on, Levi, chase that dirt, baby.
06:02That's not what I mean.
06:03That's not my keys.
06:05He's chasing it in the wrong way.
06:07JT, what are you seeing from the young number 290 here?
06:10Well, he's your current DMX championship points leader for the 250 class.
06:15And that's a European motocross championship.
06:17It's basically the feeder series for the MX2 class in which Sasha Kunin is your current points leader.
06:23Now, this kid is on the rise.
06:25It sounds like he's going to be going to the factory level of the MX2 class, probably with Kawasaki.
06:29This is a great showing for him in his first competition in America.
06:34Yeah, no doubt there are a lot of fans out here saying, who is 290?
06:38This is the Bud Racing Kawasaki team.
06:40They are a French-based team.
06:43And Garcia and Tannen, the two riders, said, this is a gift to us.
06:48They rewarded us for the good riding.
06:49They're 1-2 in that European championship.
06:52So, they gave him a gift and a weekend off to bring some bikes and get ready for Southwick, and
06:56he's riding well.
06:57Yeah, great opportunity for these guys.
06:59And, you know, you've got to believe that's going to help him moving forward, just in his belief,
07:03to be able to come over here first time and be running up here with another guy.
07:07I think in the top of our screen, we might have seen Levi get close to, or maybe going around,
07:12Julian.
07:15So, he might still be behind him, but Levi's moving forward, if you're watching Garcia here.
07:21And then shout-out to Bumford, just ahead of that group.
07:23He has been rock-solid this year, and he is in sixth on the number 71, the AEO Power Sports
07:28KTM.
07:29Here's Garcia.
07:30He's going to have Thrasher coming through next.
07:32I thought so, too.
07:34I thought Kitchin had made the move on Beaumare.
07:36Beaumare in the 13th, still ahead.
07:38Yeah, the one thing with this, especially early in this race, these lines are still developing.
07:42And so, it's not rough enough to where he can take the outside lines and it'll be a lot faster.
07:48But still like what I see with Levi, he's making opportunities, trying to make that opportunity eventually to come out.
07:55And Bumford leading this group.
07:57He has been great this season, as mentioned.
07:59As for Bill Maher, I told you the story from last week.
08:01Let him describe it.
08:05Yeah, just bad starts last week.
08:06And then I went down on lap one.
08:07It was 40th.
08:09Came back to 15th.
08:10Riding was phenomenal.
08:12Just can't put myself in that position.
08:13And again, moto two.
08:15Started in the back.
08:16Had a big crash on lap three.
08:18Took the rear brake rotor in between my fingers.
08:21Destroyed my finger.
08:21Burnt everything.
08:22And came back from last to 18th with basically one hand.
08:28So, yeah, my riding's great.
08:31Doesn't show last weekend.
08:32But we can take a lot of positives from it.
08:34And, yeah, I'm ready to go.
08:36In talking to him today, he said that he's feeling good.
08:39The hand's wrapped up.
08:40But, guys, one of the things I think is really fascinating about Juju and different than a lot of these
08:44other guys, right, are his jet skiing championship days.
08:46And I was talking to him about the relatability between sand and water.
08:50And he says this is one of those tracks and this style of racing is something he is comfortable on.
08:55Riding jet skis growing up.
08:56The way water moves is similar to how sand moves.
08:59And you have to always adapt.
09:01So he does have that in his back pocket.
09:02And he's kind of excited to be out running in the sand.
09:05Oh, getting in the deep end now, though, is Kitchin.
09:08He was right there on the outside.
09:10Katie, can he make the pass?
09:12He does.
09:14Great move.
09:14This is what I thought I saw the lap before.
09:16But, yeah, Levi's doing a great job.
09:19You can see his number plate's already covered.
09:21Not only you have to deal with just the bumps and ruts, you have to deal with being able to
09:25breathe.
09:25That sand gets into you.
09:26It sticks in your mouth.
09:27So a lot of action, but great pass by him.
09:30Let's see if he can continue moving up.
09:31He's got Carson right in front of him.
09:36And how about Bumpy?
09:38That is not the full factory bug.
09:39AEO KTM does get some support.
09:43KTM, what they call their factory services.
09:45But it's not quite the same level as what Bomer or Coonan have.
09:49But he has been running inside the top ten, honestly, more often than not this summer.
09:53Yeah, I feel like we've talked about Carson quite a bit.
09:56This summer.
09:57Good to see him up here.
09:59And only the more of these opportunities, the better he'll get and get more support for him and his team.
10:06Kitchen trying to make a move here.
10:08JT might have it.
10:09And he does.
10:10Yeah, and it's reassuring to see Kitchen moving forward.
10:13But if you think about big picture for Levi Kitchen in this championship,
10:17I'm not sure how much more of help he could possibly ask for.
10:22His teammate, Seth Handmaker, goes out with injury at high point.
10:24Joe Shimoda goes out with injury.
10:26He's up against a rookie who has never raced these particular racetracks before.
10:31And for Kitchen, it's really his time.
10:34A lot of people thought this would be the year that he had to break out, had to go in,
10:38because the riders who had stopped him from winning championships in the past
10:41have exited the series, namely Hayden Deegan.
10:44So for Levi Kitchen, it's starting to feel like now or never.
10:49Critical juncture here then for the 47 out of Washington State just further up the track.
10:55You see Davies.
10:56Then it's Ryder DeFrancisco.
10:58That's Dwight, number 34, working on maybe back-to-back podiums.
11:02Got one last week, running third in this moto right now.
11:06And then Chance Hymas, season best for him, is a fifth in a moto.
11:09He is running fourth.
11:11Yeah, but that fifth place was last weekend.
11:13So you've got to start thinking this is what we expected with Chance.
11:17And really for all these guys, it really just comes down to it's just that belief,
11:20being able to run that pace.
11:21And Chance won races in dominant fashion.
11:24But this year started off a little rough.
11:26Last weekend, started to see a little bit of Chance Hymas.
11:28And now he's battling up here for a podium.
11:31Chance there on the red Honda with the blue gear.
11:33And I talked to Chance.
11:35He had a shoulder injury dating back to Supercross that he originally didn't think would be that bad.
11:40So I didn't even realize how big a topic that would be.
11:42But he said, might have had it in a sling too long.
11:45Got frozen shoulder.
11:47And he honestly said when he got back on the bike,
11:49it's the first time he's ever struggled with the,
11:51I'm a little worried about getting hurt.
11:52He's had three different ACL surgeries, but the knees have not bothered him.
11:56So he's working on it mentally, he admits right now, as well as physically.
12:00Yeah, and that's tough as a rider.
12:02And especially when they come back to back like Chance.
12:05Every time he gets going, he has these fallbacks, so setbacks.
12:09So for him, you've got to expect maybe the mental side of things
12:12and try not to get hurt with a new injury with his shoulder is a lot different.
12:15But he's got a great team with Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, HRC.
12:20I think they'll figure it out.
12:21And, you know, I'd like to see Chance in that top five.
12:24You're seeing improvements for sure from the 29.
12:26Then you get the gaps back there to Kitchen and Beaumere.
12:32I got Cochran listed as fifth right now.
12:35So that's a good run for him, backing up where he was top five last time out
12:39at Red Boat as well.
12:41So those Rockstar Husqvarna's are rallying.
12:44That's what Beaumere, you heard of the soundbite and mentioning he took a brake rotor to the hand.
12:48He said he crashed.
12:49He thought he was going to get tagged by the bike.
12:51He put his hands up to protect himself, and the brake rotor went right in between.
12:55If I have this right, I think between his ring and middle fingers, and his whole hand was gashed.
13:00Didn't feel the pain during a 30-minute moto.
13:02Blocked it out.
13:03Said as soon as he got back to the truck and the race was over, he was screaming with how
13:07bad that hurt.
13:08But adrenaline, it'll get you through a moto.
13:10It gets you through a lot of things.
13:11Eventually, when that wears off, reality sinks in.
13:14But, yeah, you've got to believe that it's probably still bothering him now, you know, thinking about it.
13:19So I think Julian was riding a little bit better before those crashes.
13:22I'm sure something's not right, but still doing a good job inside that top ten as we're watching now.
13:28Nate Thrasher, another guy that you kind of expect towards the front.
13:31He's had a tough season so far.
13:34Yeah, got in the top ten last time out at Red Boat after missing some time early in the year.
13:40Oh, Davies from second has fallen down, and he's in a bad spot.
13:44Now, Cole, what an opportunity.
13:47I think Kitchin went by.
13:49Yeah, Levi just went around it.
13:50He can't get the bike started.
13:51Oh, that's not good.
13:53What is happening to the would-be points leader of this series?
13:57But he lost a lot of time.
13:59He's right back to where Thrasher and Minear are for tenth, and Thrasher gives no quarter.
14:04Yeah, Nate, he tried his best not to hit him.
14:07There was nothing he could do.
14:08Now he's got Caden Minear trying to go up the inside, and this is not what you want if you're
14:12Cole Davies.
14:13He's in a perfect spot with Levi being farther back, him out there.
14:18Here it is.
14:19He's out there.
14:20The start straight, the sweeper corner up here.
14:24Everything looks good.
14:25You start to see that front end watching there.
14:27Everything looks all right.
14:27Yep, there it is, and easy to happen.
14:31This track has a really hard base, so you probably didn't see, but his front end probably started watching,
14:36and then you get up in that beach, that sand, and instantly stop.
14:40Not a big fall, but Kostin went for 37, Cole Davies.
14:44Well, here's how Kostin would be.
14:46You freeze the field in this position right now.
14:49Kitchen would be the series championship leader.
14:51Look at the graphic.
14:52Left side of the screen.
14:53Kitchen would have a three-point lead on Davies, though, and then Shimoda drifting back
14:57because he's not competing today with the collarbone injury.
15:00So critical mistake.
15:02That's a lot of momentum for the 37 that he just threw away.
15:06Yeah, and we've seen this a couple times earlier in the season where Cole went down early in the races
15:11and seemed like he had plenty of time to get back, but then things just kept, you know, transpiring,
15:16whether it was a bike issue or him.
15:17So for him, I think it's really important to march your way back up front.
15:21Even if you can't get back on the podium and get near Levi, you need to be in that top
15:25five
15:25and not have what happened early in the year.
15:29Mumford right ahead of this group right here on the orange, KTM, and then Garcia.
15:34Garcia, so opportunity here for Davies to make some passes, but not going to be easy.
15:41It looks like he had something hanging down on the right side of his bike.
15:44His bike, I can't tell if that's a shadow or something.
15:49JT.
15:50Just watching Cole Davies here as he's trying to hold off.
15:53Looks like Muneer, who's been riding really well all day,
15:56you can see him just losing the low side there so often,
16:00and that is just such a nuance of Southwick because, yes, it is sand,
16:04but that hard base that James has been talking about, the front end wants to push high
16:08because all your balance, you want to be on the outside, lean into the sand,
16:12but when you get to that hard base, it steps out to the low side.
16:14It's a really difficult thing to contend with because it seems like you can't really do anything right.
16:19So you saw Sasha Kuhnab battling it on the opening lap, losing the low side over and over,
16:24but it is just very uniquely Southwick, and I think for both of those two,
16:27this is their first time here, so they're learning that on the fly.
16:31JT, one of the things that Cole Davies' pit board is saying is focus forward
16:35as he's trying to get around those guys.
16:37But going up from the top, we have Sasha's pit board saying shift exclamation point.
16:41You have Ryder DeFrancisco.
16:43He's saying do you.
16:44Chances pit board says keep slow.
16:47And Levi Kitchens, yes, sir, with an exclamation point.
16:51Well, that's, yes, absolutely what Kitchens' crew needed.
16:54A little break here to get back in this championship, get some momentum back.
16:59Mathematically, he was in it, but the last two races have not been good.
17:02Davies making moves, though.
17:04He's got Minear, got Thrasher, going after Mumford.
17:07Yeah, that's the hard part for Cole because he's trying to get his bearings back,
17:10you know, just finding his rhythm again, and then he's got his teammates behind him.
17:14And then, you know, he's got to deal with it.
17:16But it looks like Julian had actually caught up to Casey for fifth place,
17:20so a good pass by Juju here.
17:23See if he can move four.
17:24Levi's actually pulled away from all these guys.
17:28And Davies has made the move on Mumford.
17:30So a little bit of an assist because of the crash from Davies,
17:34but this is what both Beaumare and Kitchens needed.
17:36They're fourth and fifth, but they're ahead of Davies,
17:38who had moved ahead of them in the standings.
17:41DeFrancisco now second, Hymas third.
17:44And by the way, the largest moto win this year by distance is actually last week.
17:51Shimoda won it by 11 seconds.
17:54Sascha Kunin has a 19-second lead right now.
17:56He might as well not be here.
17:58He's not even in this race.
18:00He's gone.
18:01This kid is gone, people.
18:04It's 20 seconds and just past the halfway mark.
18:08An unbelievable ride for the young Belgian native.
18:11Here he is.
18:12Now, I feel like yesterday in Crested,
18:14they were really kind of downplaying the specialness of riding on sand,
18:18but they've shown with the riding they do have something special.
18:21We're halfway through this.
18:23It's a reminder.
18:24Pick up Monster Energy right now.
18:27Now, they grew up in Belgium, which is primarily sand.
18:30They moved to France to learn more hard-packed dirt.
18:33And like I said yesterday, they weren't really leaning in on the sand thing,
18:36but the riding shows otherwise.
18:38Look at this.
18:39Chance Hymas.
18:40What a shot in the arm this could be for him.
18:42He's in a podium spot, and he wants more.
18:51You're back up here.
18:53He'll figure it out.
18:54And, yeah, he doesn't, Rider D doesn't watch out.
18:57The number 29 is going to try to get him, but for sure, look behind him.
19:01You see that Pro Circuit Kawasaki 47 Levi Kitchen.
19:05And going back to him earlier, you could just tell by his riding style,
19:09he was way more aggressive this race, even though he went down compared to the
19:13last couple weekends, and, you know, you wonder what that is.
19:15I'm not sure, but nonetheless, Levi looks like the guy that we saw
19:19in his first four motos has that speed.
19:22These guys are on borrowed time.
19:25Yeah, he's caught them in a hurry.
19:28Laps clicking off here.
19:32And we'll listen to Kitchen on the charge.
19:41It's where he's made some moves, James.
19:43Yeah, what he's doing, he's going wide, and sometimes you can't pass,
19:47but you just carry that momentum, and right now he has a chance.
19:49Thank you, behind him.
19:50You can see that distance, that chance he's lost to Rider D.
19:53That's because the 47s have got him, and the good thing is with Levi,
19:58he went down, so now he knows where to pass lines or passing opportunities.
20:02I don't know if he can continue that because both these guys here are probably
20:06happy to part as he moves up, which is second place.
20:10Bottom box is Davies going after Garcia for seven.
20:16That was close with Cole.
20:17He jumped a little long.
20:18That bike got buried.
20:19This is in that same section that he went down until he's sitting down in him,
20:23and he's got his teammate right behind him.
20:26Kate Veneer following him up.
20:28Yeah, Veneer almost getting back to him.
20:30Oh, look at Hymas.
20:32Going to run the outside.
20:35And switches to the inside on defense, Sisko.
20:38Yeah, a chance of trying to square him up.
20:39What he wanted to do is get back to the outside so he can start playing that game.
20:44Ones, this is how you can pass here at Southwick.
20:46You just got to be on the little inside, outside, just have that guy starting to think,
20:50and eventually it will work out for you, JT.
20:53Yeah, you know, he's basically going everywhere that Rider D is not,
20:56and he's doing two things.
20:57Just like you said, James, he's trying to confuse Rider D about where he's going to be,
21:01and he's also trying to stay out of that roost.
21:03It's already hard enough to breathe when your heart rate is at 185, 190,
21:07but you get sprayed in the face by a bunch of sand and have to start swallowing that sand,
21:10and it's like that much more tough.
21:12So you can just see him avoiding that at all costs.
21:16And JT, we know that Jantimus, he grew up in Idaho,
21:19and of course, like, it's so important where these guys grew up.
21:22They can always adjust to tracks, but he had natural sand tracks where he was.
21:27And so coming here today, it was one of those things where he was positive,
21:31he was excited about it, especially after the momentum.
21:33Stu, my question for you is how critical do you see it
21:37when these guys are literally burst into something like a sand track,
21:41but they really show it when they're racing?
21:43Yeah, I mean, I think the thing is, I mean, all these guys,
21:46if you can ride sand, you can ride anywhere.
21:47I think it just comes down to is that momentum,
21:51because if you didn't have the momentum, the sand wouldn't really matter.
21:53If we were watching Cole Davies, like, he tried to get up inside of Garcia.
21:57But I think any time you just feel good, it's natural.
21:59It's just something less that you have to worry about,
22:02and being able to ride the sand, you're not worried about it.
22:05Thought Davies had that move there, James, but Garcia holds an FA,
22:08and as you mentioned, Meneer is not letting his buddy go here.
22:13Yeah, I think what Cole was doing,
22:15he realized he wouldn't be able to pass him in that section,
22:17so like JT said, don't get roosted with all this sand.
22:21Now it's another opportunity.
22:22Let's see if Cole can get through this section better.
22:24Now you see him on the outside.
22:26What he's going to do, try to square him up on the inside.
22:28There's that pass right there, so Garcia.
22:31Oh!
22:32Garcia went for it.
22:34Couldn't quite make it back, but aggressive.
22:36Let it be known, son.
22:37He's here to let it be known.
22:38He's here to fight, but yeah, that was aggressive,
22:41and he's here to race.
22:48Been a couple of riders down here on this track.
22:50We got a couple of replays we can show you here.
22:52Davies certainly not alone with hitting the beach.
22:57Oh, that is Deacon Denno on the triumph down hard.
23:02Oh, what a save, buddy.
23:04Yeah, that's Joe Tate.
23:04That's one of the locals,
23:05and then this is Jake Cannon,
23:07the young Australian we were talking about
23:08at the top of the show, down hard.
23:11Wow, yeah.
23:12Both those guys probably had the same thing happen.
23:14They start getting a little out of control,
23:16and then that front end hooks up.
23:17You just saw Cole Davies have the same thing
23:20as he hits the pothole right there.
23:23This track is difficult,
23:23and I believe a lot of it's coming down.
23:25It's a lot harder than maybe some of the years past,
23:28so these guys got to that base really hard,
23:31and then once they get in that berm,
23:33man, that bike just wants to stop them.
23:38Hey, the SMX playoffs are coming up in September,
23:41and you have an opportunity for one of the most unique experiences
23:44in motorsports,
23:45camping available for round one in Columbus, Ohio,
23:48and the finale at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena
23:51outside of Branson, Missouri,
23:52but opportunities are limited,
23:54so sign up early,
23:55reserve your spot,
23:56and become fully immersed in everything
23:58a weekend at the races has to offer.
24:00Try to count the track side.
24:01Go to supermotocross.com for details.
24:04Well, now I can't even tell who's who.
24:06We got lap traffic,
24:07we got Hymas in the blue gear,
24:08and the green motorcycle is Kitchen,
24:11and they got to move.
24:13Oh, they got one right here.
24:14This is a great opportunity,
24:15so Levi's going to try to do what Cole Davies did,
24:17but he's got this lap rider.
24:19Oh!
24:21Well, Davies,
24:22oh, sorry,
24:22Kitchen almost got knocked down,
24:24then the other guy goes down.
24:25He's trying to get around Fortin.
24:28That was too close for comfort.
24:29Yeah, that was really close for those guys.
24:32The guy's like,
24:32okay, I'll move over for one.
24:34You got another guy,
24:35I'll move over for him,
24:35and then you have the ball,
24:36but great save by Levi there.
24:39You notice Roder D,
24:40he decided to just go up far inside.
24:42He's like,
24:42man, too many people.
24:43I'm just blocking inside,
24:45and holds him up.
24:46That was close.
24:49Let's go.
24:50Oh, Levi,
24:50oh, you saw it coming.
24:52Yeah,
24:52almost had to move.
24:53Yeah,
24:53it looked like he had to run,
24:54but that corner starts fade back to the inside,
24:56and he did a good job by backing off.
24:58Nice.
24:59There's Cannon back in the mechanics area.
25:00There's the pass by Kitchen.
25:02You said it borrowed time.
25:04He's mowing him down.
25:05Yeah,
25:05now if I'm Levi,
25:06I'm going to try to get Roder D,
25:08because he might still think
25:08his chance behind him,
25:10so he knows he has to pace,
25:13and this is what we saw from Levi
25:14early in the year.
25:15It seemed like at times
25:16he would have the speed,
25:17and then he would just sit there,
25:18and then all of a sudden
25:19he would decide to just go fast
25:20and get it to his teammate,
25:22and this is that guy
25:23that we know,
25:24okay,
25:24I believe I have the speed.
25:26I can work these guys,
25:27and it's working out well for Levi,
25:29especially after a crash.
25:30Very impressive ride.
25:32Yeah,
25:33he might be able to get
25:33to best of the rest.
25:35No one's catching Sasha Kunin,
25:36who has a 28.7-second lead.
25:43And we have not seen one like this.
25:45Let's see here.
25:47Joe Shimoda won by
25:48over 30 seconds at Unadilla
25:51last year,
25:52but like we said,
25:53nothing this year
25:53has come close.
25:55Now,
25:55Ryder needs under fire,
25:56but man,
25:57what do we say about confidence?
25:58He gets on that podium last week,
26:00and look how much better
26:01he is even this time.
26:02Yeah,
26:02and it doesn't look
26:03like any difference.
26:04It just looks like
26:05he's belonging.
26:06He feels like he belongs here.
26:08Now,
26:08Levi's just on a different pace
26:09right now.
26:10He's got some good speeds.
26:11Wow.
26:13Tried the outside
26:14to inside.
26:14Fight forward,
26:15says the mechanic.
26:16For DeFrancisco,
26:18not going to be easy.
26:19Another run from Kitchen.
26:20Yeah,
26:21that was a great move
26:22by Levi.
26:23You know,
26:23Ryder D was just trying
26:24to protect,
26:24not thinking that
26:25Levi had that pace,
26:27but yeah,
26:28he almost goes down
26:29right there,
26:29but as a Ryder,
26:31it's a good flow,
26:32and I think this is huge.
26:33I don't think,
26:34I know this is huge
26:35for Levi at the moment
26:37because he went down,
26:38you remember earlier
26:39in this race,
26:39and for him to get back,
26:41especially after the last
26:41couple weekends
26:42have been so-so
26:43to his standards,
26:44great sign for Mitch
26:45Payton,
26:46especially they kind of
26:48need it at the moment
26:48right now.
26:49Good to see this.
26:50It was definitely
26:51slipping away.
26:52No podiums
26:53in the last couple
26:54of the motos
26:54for the 47,
26:56and he was really
26:57probably the fastest
26:57rider in the championship
26:59the first few rounds.
27:00He might be back to that,
27:01and I use the word
27:03in this championship
27:03because no one
27:04is challenging
27:05Sasha Kunin today,
27:06but he's not part
27:07of the series full-time.
27:09Davies making moves.
27:10This is the battle
27:11for sixth.
27:11Got the lap rider
27:12there in orange.
27:14Then it's Cochran,
27:16Davies on the inside.
27:17Got it.
27:18Yeah, you can kind
27:18of see that one.
27:19Cole just knew
27:20he needed to get
27:20to the inside,
27:21as it looks like.
27:24Casey's got a problem
27:25with his motorcycles
27:26right now.
27:28And we told the story
27:29of Casey Cochran
27:30last week.
27:31He is a free agent.
27:33Yeah, do you see
27:34some puffs of steam
27:35or smoke?
27:35Uh-oh,
27:36getting worse
27:37on the 59.
27:38Yeah, we don't know.
27:40I mean, this could be
27:41a lot of times
27:42in the sand.
27:43You heard,
27:43if we listen
27:44to some of these bikes,
27:45these guys don't want
27:45to let off the gas,
27:47and so what they do,
27:47they'll pull in the clutch,
27:48and all that does,
27:49it just heats
27:50the motorcycle up,
27:51and these things get hot.
27:52You start to see them smoke,
27:53and maybe with Casey,
27:56that might be one
27:56of the issues.
27:57You heard it
27:57with a couple
27:59of these guys out here.
28:01We'll see if he can bring
28:02that bike
28:03to the finish line.
28:04Like we said,
28:05building momentum
28:05had a top-five moto
28:06at high point,
28:07had a top-five overall
28:08with both motos
28:09inside the top-five
28:10last week
28:11for Cochran,
28:12who is on the rebuild
28:14after a lot of injuries,
28:16will not be back.
28:17That team,
28:18Rockstar Husk Marta,
28:19is going away.
28:21So he's trying
28:22to build resume bullets
28:23right now
28:24and doing a pretty
28:25good job of it.
28:27But you want
28:27to talk resume bullet.
28:29This guy's got
28:30some buzz
28:30if the Coonans
28:32come here next year
28:32full-time.
28:34And this is just
28:35a preview
28:35of what he's capable of.
28:36Jason,
28:38this boy is
28:39putting it to them
28:41at the moment.
28:44When you look
28:44at lap times,
28:46his fastest lap time
28:47was a 202.4.
28:48The next one
28:50was a 205.1.
28:52What?
28:52Yes.
28:53So,
28:54he's this 30 seconds.
28:56He's cruising,
28:57still going faster
28:58in these guys.
28:59And I'm glad
29:01what you said earlier
29:02about Levi.
29:02He looks like
29:03he's fastest one
29:04in this championship.
29:05Yeah.
29:06Right here,
29:07I haven't seen
29:07a route like this
29:09in probably years
29:10be this dominant.
29:12He set the bar
29:13pretty high.
29:13His brother will be
29:14up in the 450 moto
29:15next.
29:16That's going to be
29:16some stiff competition
29:18dealing with the
29:19Lawrence's
29:19and Prado
29:19and Deegan
29:20and the rest.
29:21Sasha showing
29:22what these twins
29:22are capable of.
29:24Now,
29:24this battle right now
29:26for fourth,
29:27Hymas and Bomer.
29:28Bomer digging
29:28looking for points.
29:30Little update
29:31on Cochran's bike.
29:32Team actually told Katie
29:33it's a shock going away,
29:35not an engine.
29:36So,
29:36that means he might
29:37get to the finish line,
29:38but it is going to be
29:39a rough ride
29:40if that rear end
29:41is going to be
29:41kicking all over the place.
29:42Well,
29:42you see how much
29:43the bike is moving.
29:44So,
29:44the same thing
29:44goes for a shock.
29:46It gets really hot
29:47and when it does,
29:48those things don't like
29:49to work underneath
29:49that heat
29:50and you start to see it.
29:51So,
29:51hopefully,
29:52for Casey,
29:52he can make this moto.
29:53He'll probably be
29:54a little uncomfortable
29:56eventually,
29:56but he should be alright.
30:00Man,
30:00Bomer,
30:01this guy has shown
30:02some drive this year
30:04coming back
30:04from a devastating
30:05back injury.
30:07We've said it over
30:07and over,
30:08just being back
30:08at all.
30:09Impressive.
30:10But he has been
30:11top five,
30:12podium,
30:13almost had a moto win
30:14at high point.
30:15He's been good
30:15this year,
30:15Katie.
30:16Has been good,
30:17but it's interesting.
30:18The team was telling me
30:19that one of the things
30:20that he has been
30:21dealing with is
30:21early in the season,
30:22he had no expectations.
30:24Now,
30:25four rounds in,
30:26now he's been doing well.
30:27He wants to perform,
30:28but is he mentally
30:30overdoing it for himself?
30:31And that's the big kicker.
30:32They need to make sure
30:33that he's having fun,
30:34keep it light,
30:35keep it simple
30:35for Julian Wilmer.
30:38Hard to keep it light
30:39through that section.
30:40He had that thing
30:42sideways a couple of times,
30:43but you talk about
30:44that a lot,
30:45James,
30:45pressure
30:46and how that impacts
30:47these guys.
30:48You start getting close
30:49to the points lead
30:49as he was.
30:51Does that change things?
30:52Yeah,
30:52it absolutely does,
30:54but I think Julian,
30:54because of his injury,
30:56he's got a different
30:56perspective on life.
30:58I think what happened
30:58last weekend
30:59was just bad luck.
31:00Wow.
31:00That's a good perspective
31:01to have as he moves past.
31:03Yeah,
31:03you can see Chance,
31:04he's starting to,
31:05which is expected,
31:06maybe his shoulder
31:07is starting to bother him,
31:08but yeah,
31:09I think Julian has
31:10a better perspective
31:11to where it might not
31:12get to him
31:13as it would
31:13in the years past,
31:14but just looking at him
31:16being able to get
31:16around Chance,
31:18he's just got better
31:19launch right now.
31:19What you notice with Julian,
31:20you see him riding down
31:22these insides
31:22like on some of these corners.
31:24What he's doing
31:25is missing all these bumps,
31:26so yeah,
31:27he's almost sliding
31:28into the burns,
31:29but what he's doing
31:30is saving a lot of energy
31:31when he was behind Chance.
31:32You can just see him
31:33make a lot of time up there,
31:34so far Julian's got the pace here.
31:39So bottom box battle
31:41is Garcia
31:42and Moseman,
31:43Garcia's ninth,
31:44Moseman behind him in 10th,
31:46Garcia on the lime green,
31:47Kawasaki there.
31:49Moseman looking to make a move,
31:51what a ride for Garcia,
31:52the young Spaniard,
31:53again leading the EMX 250,
31:57essentially the bridge
31:58between amateur and pro
31:59Joe over there at MXGP
32:00and he's showing
32:02he can mix it up
32:02with the pros over here
32:03for sure.
32:04Davies has climbed to sixth.
32:07The moto ends like this,
32:08Kitchum would be
32:08the championship leader
32:09by one point over Davies
32:12and about 30 over Bomer.
32:15Shimoda would be ranked third,
32:17but again,
32:17Shimoda not racing today.
32:18There's the current point
32:19standing to the lower left.
32:21What a bummer for Joe.
32:23What a bummer.
32:24Yeah,
32:24when we heard about that,
32:25I mean,
32:27honestly,
32:27just Joe's one of the fan favorites,
32:29if not the fan him
32:30and Aaron Flessinger
32:31just got it figured out.
32:32So when I heard that,
32:33I was just really bummed,
32:35you know,
32:35not only for this championship,
32:36but just Joe,
32:37you know,
32:38such a good guy
32:38and really to be fine
32:40in his form
32:41after that gnarly injury
32:42he had earlier this season.
32:44It will soon,
32:45Joe.
32:47Moseman still working
32:47on Garcia.
32:52Try middle line here.
32:54Two to go.
32:55Time has expired.
32:56I think everybody,
32:57spoiler alert,
32:58already knows
32:58who's headed
32:59to the checkered flag
32:59and that is Sasha Kunin
33:01who has absolutely
33:02destroyed the field
33:03in this moto.
33:05And,
33:06oh,
33:06they're not done.
33:07They've got Cochran inside.
33:08Remember,
33:08Cochran probably fighting
33:09that motorcycle
33:10a little bit.
33:11His shock's going out.
33:13Not a good track for that.
33:15Yeah,
33:15working,
33:16but he's got,
33:18well,
33:18it's about one and a half.
33:19The Saks is already
33:20on the outside of the racetrack.
33:23Oh,
33:24Garcia.
33:25That was a close call
33:27and Moseman says,
33:28thank you.
33:28I'll go right by.
33:29Yeah,
33:30I think Garcia just had
33:31so much momentum
33:32going down there.
33:33He didn't expect
33:33Casey to be maybe
33:35not moving as fast.
33:36So,
33:37got to get a kid credit,
33:38man.
33:38He's fighting at the end
33:39and he clearly ain't afraid
33:40to send it in there.
33:42Send it a message.
33:43Yeah,
33:44a couple of times
33:44we've seen that.
33:45Moseman working on Cochran.
33:47Bottom box is the leader,
33:49Sasha Coonan,
33:49who is gone.
33:52Biggest moto win
33:53by far this year
33:54if he holds onto it
33:55like this.
33:57Kitchen second,
33:58DeFrancisco
33:59looking for his third,
34:01third place moto this year.
34:04I believe he's
34:06got about four seconds
34:07over Julian.
34:12Yeah,
34:12Michael,
34:13he's got to get around Casey
34:15as he goes down right there.
34:17And got to give Casey,
34:18that crash was caused
34:19by Casey,
34:20still fighting
34:21and standing in the lines
34:22because,
34:22you know,
34:23Michael knew
34:23he probably was a little
34:24wounded duck situation.
34:25I can get around him,
34:27but I got to go around
34:28the outside
34:28and he ends up going down.
34:29So good fight by Casey.
34:31Hopefully Michael can get up
34:32and finish his moto.
34:33So how about this?
34:35Racing last weekend
34:36in South Africa,
34:38the long plane flight.
34:40Then they went to
34:40Alden Baker's,
34:41Baker's Factory
34:42Training Complex
34:43in Florida.
34:44They're learning
34:45all the ropes
34:45of U.S. racing.
34:48I don't think
34:49the riding and speed
34:50is really that much
34:51of a surprise
34:51if you follow these guys.
34:52What does surprise me
34:53is how quickly
34:54the fans took them
34:55to Colorado.
34:56You heard the cheers
34:57on the first lap.
34:59They got a buzz
35:00about them,
35:00something special
35:01and the fans
35:01seem to respond to it.
35:02Yeah,
35:03well,
35:03our fans are smart.
35:04They understand
35:05good body
35:05and when they see it
35:06and I think
35:07a lot of it
35:08is just,
35:09you've got to respect
35:10what they're doing
35:11and the fact
35:12that they want
35:12to come and race
35:13in front of us,
35:14you know,
35:15our fans,
35:15when they're winning
35:16a championship,
35:17there's basically
35:18a lot on the lines
35:19for those guys,
35:20especially Sasha
35:21possibly winning
35:22his first ever title,
35:23but they want
35:24to be here.
35:24And so the fans
35:26understand that
35:26and they got to
35:27appreciate it
35:28along with the talent
35:29and I will say this,
35:31they're great young men.
35:33I had a chance
35:33to talk to them
35:34only a couple times,
35:35the second time
35:36meeting them
35:36and I'm more impressed
35:38about who they are
35:39as people
35:40just as much
35:41as I'm impressed
35:42on the motorcycle.
35:43And I'm going to tell you,
35:45they're here.
35:46These kids are going
35:46to be a problem
35:47in the years to come.
35:51No problems
35:52in this moto
35:52for the 109
35:53whole shot.
35:54Well,
35:54I shouldn't say
35:54no problems.
35:55First lap,
35:55he had about five saves.
35:57But once he got
35:58that dial,
35:58oh, look at that,
35:59saluting the fans.
36:01How good does this feel
36:02to actually back-to-back
36:04moto wins
36:04in this series
36:05for him?
36:07Listen to that.
36:10Stop,
36:10Shakunen,
36:11bombs the field.
36:13And there's
36:14his brother Lucas
36:14happy about it.
36:18That's,
36:18that's cool.
36:19That's really cool.
36:20Shout out to all
36:21the fans here
36:21at Southwick.
36:22Cheers.
36:23These guys off.
36:25What a great race.
36:25And Levi Kitchen,
36:26great ride by him
36:28getting up here.
36:30This,
36:30this moto could have
36:31went opposite way
36:32for him,
36:32but he got up,
36:33he fought.
36:34Great signs by 47
36:36and good signs
36:37for pro circuit.
36:38They had a tough day.
36:39Tough couple weeks
36:39where the Blues and Seth
36:40get well soon.
36:42Good ride, Levi.
36:45Sometimes you need
36:45little luck
36:46to get things
36:46back on your side
36:47and Davies crashed.
36:50I mean,
36:50Kitchen went down
36:51early himself.
36:51It looked like
36:52it was going to be
36:52another one of those days,
36:53but he has recovered
36:54big time
36:54and made up points.
36:58There's dad.
36:59Wrath there
37:00with Sasha.
