28:26to the message of his grace, granting miraculous signs and wonders to be performed through their
28:32hands. But the population of the city was divided, some siding with the Jews and some with the
28:39apostles. When both Gentiles and Jews, together with their rulers, made an attempt to mistreat
28:47them and stone them, Paul and Barnabas learnt about it and fled to the Laconian cities of
28:54Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding region. There, they continued to proclaim the good
29:01news. In Lystra, there was a man who could not use his feet, who had been lame from birth
29:07and had never walked. This man was listening to Paul as he was speaking. Paul stared intently
29:15at him and saw that he had faith to be healed. And he said with a loud voice, Stand upright
29:22on your feet. The man leapt up and began walking. And so when the crowds saw what Paul had done,
29:30they shouted in the Laconian language, The gods have come down to us in human form. And they
29:37began to call Barnabas Zeus and Paul Hermes because he was the chief speaker. The priest of
29:46the temple of Zeus, located just outside the city, brought bulls and garlands to the city gates.
29:53He and the crowds wanted to offer sacrifices to them. But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard
30:00about it, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd shouting, Men, why are you doing these
30:07things? For we too are men, with human natures just like you. We are proclaiming the good news
30:14to you that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven, earth,
30:20the sea and everything that is in them. In past generations, he allowed all the nations to go
30:26their own ways. Yet he did not leave himself without a witness by doing good, by giving you rain from
30:33heaven
30:34and fruitful seasons, satisfying you with food and your hearts with joy.
30:41Even by saying these things, they scarcely persuaded the crowds not to offer a sacrifice to them.
30:50But the Jews came from Antioch and Econium, and after winning the crowd over they stoned Paul and
30:56dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead. But after the disciples had surrendered him,
31:03he got up and went back into the city. On the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.
31:13After they had proclaimed the good news in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra,
31:19to Econium and to Antioch. They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue
31:26in the faith, saying, We must enter the kingdom of God through many persecutions.
31:32When they had appointed elders for them in the various churches, with prayer and with fasting,
31:39they entrusted them to the protection of the Lord in whom they had believed.
31:45Then they passed through Pisidia and came into Pamphylia. And when they had spoken the word in Paragah,
31:52they went down to Atalia. And from there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been commended
31:59by the grace of God, for the work they had now completed. When they had arrived and gathered the
32:07church together, they reported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened the
32:12door of faith for the Gentiles. And so they spent considerable time with the disciples.

32:32O God, who is the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom stands our eternal life,
32:40whose service is perfect freedom, defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies,
32:48that we, surely trusting in your defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries.

33:07O Lord, our Heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, who has safely brought us to the beginning

33:22neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings may be ordered by your governance,

33:50completely to your sacred will. Direct me and help me each hour of this day. Control my thoughts and
33:59feelings in all my deeds and words. When unpredictable circumstances arise,
34:06do not let me forget that everything comes from you. Lord Jesus, Son of God,
34:14it is better not to live than to live without you. I thank you, God, for the gift of this

34:22and for all the good deeds you will help me do today. Holy Spirit, help me to dedicate this day
34:31to my Lord and Saviour to my Lord and Saviour. Teach me to be just toward my brother and sister,
34:38never to provoke wrath or cause sorrow. Control my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope,
34:47to suffer, to forgive and to love. Amen.
