03:13And to our international audience, this is Beyond the Tape.
03:16I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
03:18Now, today we got a lot of blessings in different areas, and I know some areas we saw a lot
03:23of rainfall.
03:24Some areas were flooded, like Kokoreet, that we are seeing here, that took place later this afternoon, before we made
03:31our way into the evening.
03:33And again, we ask persons to take your time on the nation's roads, I understand.
03:37Also, Edward Street, we're seeing a lot of rainfall that took place earlier this afternoon.
03:43I mean, now it's subsided, but the sad thing is we always see the garbage, debris that is still there.
03:49So that means we have to stop littering, and it's very important.
03:52And Captain Rambert even spoke about it.
03:54Now, I almost forgot that this week is going to be a short week, because the holiday is on on
03:58Friday.
03:59And one gentleman who I know is needing of this rest will be off on Beyond the Tape on Friday.
04:04We have ASP Russell, of course, here with us this evening, each and every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
04:10Good evening to you, sir.
04:12Good evening, Ms. Husbands.
04:14Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, and to our international viewers on behalf of the Commissioner of Police,
04:20Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and First and Second Division Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
04:27As usual, it's a pleasure being here.
04:29I want to thank God for making me live this year next week, so I can grace you up with
04:34my presence.
04:35Yes, of course.
04:35This is the issues.
04:36I trust that you all had a wonderful weekend, and you were safe, and it was enjoyable, and restful.
04:41Yes, most importantly.
04:43Now, we have some videos we want to revisit, because you're here, and of course, here to take from the
04:48TTPS,
04:49because these videos took place over the weekend.
04:51And we will start off on a positive note, somewhat.
04:55We saw on social media that there was a candlelight vigil for Mercedes-Lane,
05:01and from what I understand, today, the family and friends gave their final farewell to Mercedes-Lane,
05:08and again, condolences going out to the family.
05:11This is a sad position to be in, not just as family and friends, but the entire country also.
05:21Another child's life, ESP.
05:23Another child.
05:24Too many children.
05:25Yes, correct.
05:26Especially within that short space of time, you know, you see mothers in tears, fathers in tears.
05:33You know, the grief that comes about because of situations like these, you know,
05:38is only God can really help you in times like these.
05:41And we, I know we send condolences to the family, but again, we want to send condolences.
05:46I mean, we would do all that we have to do on our side to ensure that the family gets
05:53some sort of justice.
05:55I know nothing we can do can replace the child, but, you know, in times of struggle, you know,
06:03I want to encourage you to turn to the Lord so that He can provide that much-needed recovery.
06:11Yeah.
06:11Because no one could imagine.
06:13I always say I don't like that saying.
06:15I could only imagine.
06:16Yeah.
06:16I can't imagine it unless I went through something like this.
06:18No one's supposed to be laying their 12-year-old to rest at any point in time at this age.
06:24This is the time for graduation.
06:25This child's supposed to be graduating from primary school, getting ready to enter secondary school.
06:31Yeah, and, you know, we get up every day and before even, you know, saying a word to whoever is
06:37your maker,
06:38you know, we pick up the phone, we make so many plans, and we just go about our business when,
06:44you know,
06:45we're really supposed to really be thankful.
06:47And I'll tell you something about life.
06:49We have to love the life that we live and appreciate all that we have been blessed with.
06:54There's something called the early effect.
06:56It will always have son.
06:57It's something we see in church as well.
06:59It will always have somebody bigger, better, nicer, prettier, richer, wealthier.
07:03Of course.
07:04With a nicer vehicle, a bigger house.
07:06And we just have to be grateful for life, you know, and its blessings.
07:09And that doesn't mean you're less than, eh?
07:10No, it doesn't mean to say you're less than.
07:12And everyone has their own chapter in life that they will proceed to when need be.
07:17Of course.
07:17Of course.
07:17So, we no need to watch others.
07:20Now, Captain, oh, I call it Captain.
07:22Oh, Captain.
07:23I've given you another title, you know, so many titles.
07:27We don't even have Captain in the J.
07:28Captain in the J.
07:29All right.
07:30Well, I mean, nonetheless, yes, my apologies.
07:33So, we are revisiting a video that was viral.
07:36It's still viral as we speak because persons spoke of this individual, a teacher, a driver who was vigilant enough
07:44to pay attention to what took place in that moment and was able to get away without his life being
07:50hard.
07:50So, I know that in this case here, yes, we want your advice on this.
07:57The persons who may be taking up strangers for service, of course, doing their daily routine to make extra buck.
08:06So, let me watch the video to the end before I comment on it.
08:11Yes.
08:21So, we're seeing, I guess, you know, with the conversation, yes, we just take a busy gentleman looks comfortable.
08:27I guess it's because, you know, when you have females in your vehicle, you're not expecting certain things from females.
08:32Yes, yes.
08:34I totally understand.
08:36And there have been quite a few issues involving TG Wrightship.
08:39Yes.
08:39A lot of them were captured on social media.
08:43Some persons were telling me of quite a few over the weekend.
08:47But this one, it seems like he's a hero for many persons where these individuals who decide to harm others,
08:56to take things that persons worked extremely hard for, and he moved quickly, swift, swift action, ESP.
09:06I don't know if you'll be able to...
09:07Turn it down, wait, intercede.
09:09Oh, you're right.
09:09In its entirety.
09:11Okay, understood.
09:12Before, I've been told of a few, I don't know which one of them this is.
09:16Yes.
09:18So we have different angles, but this here is the drop-off of the, or pick-up, actually, from what
09:24the information that was received or the, one of the individuals, we're not sure, but someone wanted to pick out
09:33an item and he detoured, it was a detour.
09:35And this is what transpired.
09:39Got to freeze it.
09:43Woo!
09:45E.
09:45That is not a kill kitty.
09:47That is a...
09:49Yeah, this is another angle.
09:52When they were going to allegedly collect an item.
09:58And I'll stick fire him.
10:07I would have been freaking out in that backseat.
10:14And this is another angle, ESP, where we will see the kitty writer, the driver, trying to get away.
10:29And you'll see.
10:30And you'll see in a few seconds.
10:30This is where the drop-off occurred.
10:39And you'll see in the vehicle, and you'll see.
10:42You know what I, what I like, I, I can see that the driver took some of our advice, and
10:47he has an internal camera.
10:48Yes.
10:49So we can see the persons who are in the vehicle.
10:52So...
10:52So this is where he was attempting to get away with the city, two individuals, and this is where he
11:01caught one.
11:02Wow.
11:03So would this be considered a self-defense?
11:07Mr. Husbands, that's a very good question, you know.
11:11When you look at the direction that the assailant that got knocked down was running, he was actually running away.
11:22So could we, is it right to assume that his life was still in danger?
11:27Yeah, he was shooting at him.
11:27Even though the guy...
11:28He was shooting at him while he was running away.
11:30Okay, well, if he's shooting at him while he's running away, I mean, he risked his, he, he, he, the
11:37driver himself.
11:38You'll see here where, you see he's shooting at the vehicle.
11:41Yeah, the driver himself.
11:43Is that equal force?
11:46So someone's asking ticklish questions.
11:48No, I'm asking, be honest.
11:49What I'm saying is, and I commend him.
11:50It's metal for metal.
11:52There's one of the bigger metal.
11:53I commend him, and I applaud him for that.
11:56Yeah.
11:57What I looked at is, was he was reversing.
12:00So he was going away from it.
12:02The gentleman had already started running away from him.
12:05Yeah?
12:06Notwithstanding that, he put the vehicle in gear, and he went, and he bongs the gentleman.
12:10Now, of course, when he goes to seek medical attention, we will be able to hold and apprehend the person.
12:18But to say self-defense would be definitely a bit ticklish.
12:21So if there was a dead end, we don't know that.
12:23Right.
12:23The reason why he was driving forward.
12:25And I like what you say, we don't know that, because standing here, neither of us have all the facts.
12:29Yes, I don't understand.
12:29We only go in on what we are seeing on the television.
12:32But let me say, let me, let me, let me put it in another scenario.
12:37Let's say the driver was armed with a firearm.
12:43And that is extended clip.
12:44Jacky, could you pause where he's kilkiting in the air?
12:50Where he is in the air, you will see that extended clip on that gun.
12:55We're not getting to get that.
12:57When he was in the air, in the impact of the car, right there.
13:01See it?
13:02Go back a little bit.
13:03Right there.
13:04What is that?
13:06Yeah, that's a firearm.
13:07That is, that is definitely a firearm.
13:08That even looks like a machine gun.
13:09It could look like, uh, some, somewhat of a.
13:13Look at it right there.
13:13Extended clip.
13:14It's a pistol with an extended magazine.
13:17And the frightening thing about it, most of the times when you see them, a lot of persons are adapting
13:21them and putting selectors on them.
13:23Yes.
13:23That gives them, that gives them an automatic, um, function.
13:26Right.
13:27Notwithstanding, it's a pistol.
13:29So it's things to be careful of.
13:31Um, the driver in this case, he managed to survive.
13:35Some may heal him as a, a hero.
13:37Yes.
13:38But I think his actions, with his actions, he risks his own life.
13:44Because he reversed.
13:47And then he put the vehicle in drive and then he went back behind the guy.
13:51No, they were coming.
13:52What, what I'm saying.
13:53No, when you look at the other angle.
13:55Yeah.
13:55There's another angle.
13:57When he reversed and he hit the vehicle on the left.
13:59Mm.
13:59Right?
14:00Yeah, because he's trying to get away.
14:02Right, he was trying to get away.
14:03And after that, did he not put the vehicle in drive and come back up?
14:05Yeah, because they were running towards him.
14:07They were running towards him?
14:08Yeah, watch.
14:08All away from him.
14:09Jackie, show the vehicle.
14:10Jackie, show the vehicle.
14:12Right there.
14:12All right.
14:12We will see.
14:16So he reversing.
14:17He's reversing.
14:18All right.
14:19The guy is in the corner right there.
14:21He's trying to still get him.
14:22Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:24And now he's trying to get away.
14:25And then he starts to shoot the other guy.
14:27And that's where he got the impact.
14:28Yeah, well, I guess that is the safest way he could have.
14:30Out, yeah.
14:31Yeah.
14:31Yeah, because eventually they may have caught up with him.
14:34Yes, I don't like this, you know.
14:36I am so uncomfortable.
14:37You don't even understand.
14:38Like, I am trying to keep a straight face here.
14:40And it is.
14:41I cannot.
14:43I cannot.
14:43No, I can't keep a straight face.
14:44Because it is always like the victims are the ones who always have to pay attention to things to do
14:53to protect their lives.
14:55You hear what I'm saying?
14:55This could have turned into something different where somebody could say that's not self-defense.
15:00They were running away.
15:01Even though they were shooting back and you have the bigger metal.
15:04You're in a vehicle.
15:05You're safe.
15:05You could have reversed.
15:06This is Fast and Furious, the movie.
15:09No, no, Miss Husbands.
15:11Let's see the child who was armed with a fireman.
15:13If they were running away from him and shooting at him, his life was still in immediate danger.
15:16So, of course, he used his firearm.
15:18He would have been okay.
15:19He okay.
15:20What we want to avoid is persons trying to be heroes.
15:24Vigilante justice.
15:25Right.
15:26Not just vigilante justice, but persons.
15:29Because you could make a citizen's arrest, right?
15:33You're a sub-duty person.
15:35I'm not talking about any case of a community.
15:37This is something entirely different, right?
15:38And what I'm saying is, if by reversing, you're getting away from them.
15:42Because, you see, we are celebrating it today because none of the wrongs hit the windscreen.
15:49None of the wrongs penetrated the windscreen and hit the driver.
15:52Yes.
15:53You understand what I'm saying?
15:54But had that happened, we would have said, well, if you're already reversing, you could have continued reversing.
15:58We would have been saying something else.
16:01Notwithstanding that, I appreciate his quick thinking.
16:05And maybe it was his quick thinking that contributed to him living to tell the tale.
16:10Because if it was indeed a narrow street where he would have had difficulties turning, they may have ran back
16:16at him.
16:16Right.
16:17But with your expertise, what should the driver have done there and then when he was reversing?
16:23Now, we still don't know what was behind him.
16:24What was behind him.
16:25In my expertise, it is very difficult for me to come here and stand up and say, my expertise without
16:32knowing all the facts and without being in the exact situation.
16:37There are some persons out there who are firearm holders.
16:40They might have seen it for you to exit the vehicle and take cover behind the door and return fire
16:45in the direction of the person.
16:47So you exit, you take cover, so you use your door as a shield and then you return.
16:51They may have felt comfortable doing that based on their training and their confidence with handling their firearm.
16:57Right.
16:58That's what we say with FUOS, we ask people to do constant training and retraining and drills and stuff like
17:03that.
17:04In this situation, when you look at how the driver, yes, it's quick thinking by the driver.
17:10And he probably made up his mind tonight, tonight, you're not taking my vehicle.
17:14Correct. On me.
17:14And I applaud his efforts and his quick thinking.
17:18But there's a lot more to it too, especially like the person who got out of the back, who got
17:24out of the vehicle.
17:25Because if that was the person that asked to go up there, you can realize that person was never seen
17:30again.
17:30And people have to be mindful of this, especially the TTRS driver, because they are on the constant attack.
17:36And it is saddening to see that something that's supposed to be a good initiative, because we don't have other
17:43services that they have in the U.S.
17:47And to have something that mirrors it, that could accommodate persons who don't have their own vehicle or their vehicle
17:53may be in your shop.
17:54So whatever reason, and we are doing this, it's very, very, very difficult.
17:58Very soon, they would want to say, I'm not going into particular areas.
18:02And in a particular sector, the society would now say discrimination.
18:05Correct.
18:06So we have to be careful how we're doing things.
18:08I know there are some fast food restaurants who don't deliver in certain areas because of what happened to the
18:15delivery drivers or delivery riders at the point in time.
18:19So, I thank God that he was able to escape with his life and his vehicle.
18:26Of course, I hope he will go and make an accident report because the other vehicle was damaged.
18:33And, you know, really the video footage and we could really pick up who the person is and really have
18:39them for questioning.
18:40Well, I'm awaiting the update from the TTPS for that one.
18:41I'm sure many persons are also looking forward to getting an update there right now.
18:45Let's take a look at what's making today's headlines.

22:23The southern division town meeting in Tableland District has been canceled today.
22:28Of course, we will give you updates as we get more if they will proceed with another date.
22:34But it was supposed to take place on Thursday, the 18th of June, 2026 at 6 p.m.
22:40And just so for persons to know, that the southern division town meeting in Tableland District has been canceled.
22:46All right, we have a caller on the line, so we have a caller on the line, so we have
22:49to the phone.
22:49Nice caller, good evening.
22:51Listen, good evening, my dear Mr. Southpott.
22:55Good evening.
22:55Good evening, caller.
22:56Good evening.
23:01Good evening.
23:02My contribution is this, you know, that I couldn't call before, but I was listening because I was having problems
23:11in getting to yours.
23:14Because you know that long time, long ago, right, when your children come home, you will check your bags and
23:23ask them what they did in school today,
23:25how was classes today, and, you know, how was your day, and stuff like that, and, you know, and what
23:32that, and whatnot.
23:34And, you know, you would tell them, you know, respect your elders, you know, respect your teachers, and don't be
23:41rude, and, and, and, and, you know, stuff like that, and be obedient because, you know,
23:50you don't know how far you will have to go back to that school to get a recommendation in terms
23:56of when you need a job.
23:58But nowadays, I don't know children making children, and they don't know A from B, but I had a mother,
24:09she used to instill in me things, and I used to instill in my children the same thing.
24:17And they used to tell me, you're young, but you're old, and all these sort of things, not that.
24:21I said, the time has come, when you will remember, I won't die now, when you will remember what your
24:29mother used to be telling you old.
24:34Because, you know, right now, it gets me obsessed, of these children, you know, going against their parents, cursing their
24:43parents,
24:44practicing with their parents, disobedience, and all these things.
24:49I used to tell my children, pray before you go to bed, and stuff like that.
24:57We used to, in my days, in TTT News, we have, I went to Providence, we have to listen to
25:05panorama, and listen to the news before we go to bed.
25:11Play our friends, eat our dinner, and then go to sleep.
25:15Now, what is this, children don't know about listening to the news, they know about TikTok, and all this sort
25:23of nonsense.
25:23But, I keep on praying for them, because it's a lost generation, my dear brothers, it's a lost generation.
25:33And they don't, some of them, don't even know the old father, but I continue to pray for them, that
25:40they come to, their parents, come to their senses, and they, you know, talk with them, because we're gone, we're
25:49gone, we're gone.
25:49But, only God alone can bring us back.
25:52Bless them to you all, my God.
25:54Read home, please.
25:55Thank you so much, my Providence lady.
25:58Well, Nicole, I touched on the days when parents, used to really parent, and parenting wasn't just a verb, you
26:05know.
26:06True.
26:06And, and, and I could share some of the sentiments with her, because I had a stepfather who used to
26:13tell you, make sure and watch the news.
26:16I am a person that, even in the gym, when 7 o'clock comes, the workout pauses us, put on
26:22my headset, and make sure I can listen to the news.
26:25Because the sad thing about it is, we have adults, who would tell you with a smile, I don't watch
26:30the news, the news is too depressing.
26:32And I tell people, the news is so important for me, as a police officer, especially, because it tells you
26:38what happens yesterday.
26:40It tells you what may happen tomorrow.
26:43So, let's say there are certain things that took place, you know, there was flooding in Port of Spring today.
26:47I know the mindset I have to come to work with tomorrow.
26:50There may have been something that happened in the community that you supervise officers in.
26:55And you know, all right, cool, they had no water, so they, they burned some tires.
26:58So, we had to try and call Wasta to tell Wasta, bring some water, because we want to avoid burning
27:03tires for another, a consecutive day.
27:06So, to hear a person say, I don't look at the news, sometimes I wonder why.
27:10Some of them choose different mediums, some of them choose to read the papers, but I want to advise persons
27:15to, you know, look at the news.
27:17And I want to always encourage parents to show that interest.
27:20You don't have to be the rightest parent.
27:23But once you show that child that love and that care and that concern, you're going to the school to
27:29see what is going on.
27:30Because a lot of the youth, they are lacking love, you know.
27:33They think nobody cares about them, and that's why the gang seems such an attractive option to them.
27:38Because they're seeing love, camaraderie, sneakers, cell phone, and gold chain.
27:44All right, we have another caller.
27:46Caller, good evening.
27:48Thank you for taking my call.
27:50The senior officer there, Mr. Russell, and your staff, Mr. Alban, very nice program indeed.
27:54I just want to continue on the last caller.
27:57And I want to say that I want to compliment the police for their work.
28:02I want to put up front because the police are working in some challenging, challenging environment in this country now.
28:11I just want to say, you know, in a very charged political situation, you're about to hear people calling the
28:18commissioner and calling them all kind of names.
28:21But I want to say, I want to say to this commissioner today.
28:23This commissioner takes the reign of police service, as I said before, a very challenging time.
28:30You do this, you do that, it will still cut aside you.
28:33All the commissioner has to do and the senior officer, like I said, right, is just continue doing the right
28:39thing.
28:40We have young, young people, 13, 14, 15 years involved in crime.
28:47That is a big challenge for the police service.
28:50And I want to congratulate your other colleague who has come on the program, you know, this is Sergeant Annie
28:56or something, though.
28:57But that's interesting, he is the leader, the charge on, in trying to use what we call the soft touch.
29:03You know the soft touch?
29:04Because it's very, I want to remember the defense force, and it's hard to see you at a point of
29:09fire at a 13-year-old.
29:11You know, it means a lot of breakdown in the community and the work of the home.
29:16And this is challenging, it's very challenging.
29:19So I salute you all today.
29:20I salute you all on this day.
29:22That's for your work you do, honestly, in my area, in my police area, in the western area.
29:28I salute you all for your work, and I pray.
29:30God will guide you all when you leave your work, and leave your families, to come and do good police
29:35work.
29:36Thank you very much.
29:36Thank you so much, sir.
29:38Thank you, caller.
29:39I pray the same for you.
29:39I appreciate that.
29:40And you heard the caller speak about, he spoke about the homes and the communities.
29:44We should never diminish the responsibility of the home and the communities, Ms. Husbands.
29:53Trinidad and Tobago, the environment is very important to the development of your child or your children.
30:04The home is the key component.
30:08Ms. Husbands, let me show you the cycle.
30:10When the home fails, it's the teacher's turn.
30:14And when the teachers fail, guess where they end up?
30:17TTPs.
30:18By the police.
30:20But, and I remember, a child may not be the most, the quickest learner,
30:27but if the teacher sees that the parent cares, that teacher will put in that extra effort with that child.
30:34And the parents all be asking is to just go in school now and then, see what's going on with
30:40your children.
30:41Just show.
30:42Show interest.
30:42Just a little bit of interest and watch and see the change you will see.
30:45All right.
30:46We need to take that break.
30:47When we come back, we continue with more.
31:04Excuse me, excuse me.
31:08Excuse me, sir.
31:10Drop this.

32:05New Triple Power Serum with peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C.
32:10Visibly reduces wrinkles, firms, and evens tone.
32:13New Triple Power Serum by L'Oreal Paris.
32:16We're worth it.
32:17Scandal in Citrus is back in Port of Spain.
32:21And yup, we're finally at Queen's Hall for two nights only.

32:30Tickets available at the usual outlets and online.
32:33You can now buy tickets on our website, rsrrproductions.com.
32:38We think you'll like it.
32:39And at the Queen's Hall box office, 12 noon to 6pm daily.
32:43Scandal in Citrus.
32:44We're at Queen's Hall.
32:46Scandal in Citrus.
33:19We're at Queen's Hall.
33:48All right, guys.
33:48Today we're going to start a new topic.
33:50And that topic is entitled Al-Jay.
34:04There is no way I could teach you an older noise.
34:07And there is definitely no way we children could learn in that noise of violence.
34:13They deserve more.
34:15That fear, that anxiety.
34:18We have to have our classrooms filled with joy, laughter, and hope.
34:23Not fear.
34:24That is why I support the TCPS School Oriented Policing Initiatives.
34:30This is not just about law enforcement.
34:34It's about building trust.
34:36Parents, teachers, students, and officers all coming together to provide a safe space where young minds can flourish.
34:46If we all stand side by side, we can protect our children, keep them safe, and they can have a
34:56space to learn without anxiety and fear.
35:00I am ready to partner with the TCPS in fostering safe, respectful, and empowered schools across Chinadad and Tobago.
35:11It's not a simple task.
35:13We need parents, students, teachers, and communities to get involved.
35:19It's time to get on board.
35:22Securing our schools.
35:24Securing our future.
35:28It's time to get on board, most definitely, ASP School Oriented Policing Initiative.
35:33It's a beautiful initiative that we are seeing that is being planted in many of the schools.
35:40Well done to the commissioner.
35:41Yes.
35:41For his VS man, for his forward-thinking mindset.
35:45And I mean, we have just, the transformation of the police service has been going on for quite some time,
35:51and we'll continue to do more.
35:53We have so many things that we want to rule out to just enhance the delivery of service to the
35:58public.
35:59But, you know, when you look at the procurement and stuff like that,
36:02we have to abide by certain laws and legislations.
36:06It's taken a little longer than we would like, but rest assured you that in Tobago,
36:12the police service is continuously working on ways to improve our delivery of service to you.
36:18All right.
36:19We have a caller on the line.
36:20Caller, good evening.
36:23Hello.
36:24Good evening.
36:26Hi.
36:26Good evening.
36:27Good evening.
36:29Caller.
36:30And I will be the philographist.
36:31Good evening.
36:35I want to help you with two things.
36:40Go ahead.
36:42One, you mentioned a while ago that the car reversing and the Germans have come out and stick over behind
36:52the door.
36:53I wouldn't advise that.
36:55I'll tell you why.
36:55If you have a philographist.
36:56Because of the level of high-powered ammunition that they use in these days, and we know that those doors
37:05are the urbanized doors.
37:12And the other issue, I want to clarify something from last week, apparently you all didn't hear it clearly.
37:20It will go by the day.
37:23If someone is arrested for months loader, and when the police also does the investigation, the person has committed a
37:35crime under the S-O-E, and they are detained.
37:44Even if they apply to a judge to be brought forward, the minister, not the police, the minister, could object
37:54to that, he does not have to conform.
37:57So what I'm telling you is not really to be a legal question, because if you read your S-O
38:03-E, you will see this.
38:05I will just know.
38:07All right.
38:07Thank you so much, Colin.
38:08Now, he was referencing, he's saying, if a person had a firearm, not seeing the driver in that video to
38:14make things clear.
38:15He has given an option.
38:15Yes.
38:16Probably a person with a firearm could have done certain things.
38:19Yes.
38:19Because, I mean, notwithstanding, the driver tried to get away, and he was able to escape.
38:24He is now in expense.
38:25Yes.
38:25Yes, I'm saying different persons will react differently to different scenarios.
38:29I rather the expense than my life.
38:31And in this position, he used what he had.
38:35Yes.
38:36You know, so I'm not saying that the driver should come out and take cover, and he's not here to
38:42return anything or stuff like that.
38:44So that's one of the things that we need to get clear, number one.
38:48And the caller has, this is the second time the caller brought this situation.
38:53But he isn't really asking a question.
38:55He's telling me something.
38:57He's making a statement.
38:58Okay.
38:59Because he said, somebody arrested for manslaughter.
39:02And during the investigation, they would have committed a crime under the SOE.
39:08Correct.
39:09I'm not certain if they're referring to the same manslaughter or an additional crime under the SOE.
39:14He's saying that even if he applies to a judge in chambers for bail, the minister, because the minister of
39:23a particular power granted to him under the SOE, could object.
39:31And it's, I believe it's within the SOE as well.
39:36Yes.
39:36But that's if it's brought before his death.
39:37Yes.
39:37Right.
39:38And that is it.
39:39He would know.
39:39If it is brought to his recognition.
39:41In addition to which, we, the members of each and Tobago police service, when you are going to court, we
39:48can tell the prosecutor, as an investigator, you can tell the prosecutor and give him grunts, which he could use
39:56to also object to bail.
39:58Okay.
39:58Like, for instance, the person is at flight risk.
40:02Or, if given that person bail, they would go and interfere with the witness or cause harm to the witness
40:08or do something to really harm.
40:11So, you need justification to prevent bail.
40:13Yes.
40:13So, even with all the SOE, we, the members of the TTPS, in presenting our case, we could bring forward
40:20points where we could show as points to object the bail for that particular person.
40:25So, I understand, I believe that is what the caller is saying, but I'm telling him, in the SOE and
40:29outside of the SOE, we still have a particular power.
40:33All right.
40:33We have another caller.
40:34Caller, good evening.
40:35Good evening.
40:36Good evening.
40:37Good evening.
40:38Good evening, sir.
40:39Good evening, caller.
40:40Two things.
40:41All right.
40:42There was an officer in the Point 14 police station.
40:46Right?
40:47And I could never remember her name, but she used to do justice for the children in Point 14.
40:54Very, very many times used to hear children in Point 14 getting involved in any, you know, school confrontation.
41:02And one of the reasons is that she used to bring the kids with the consent of their parents to
41:09the police station and give them a feel.
41:13That's how the jail would be like and how, I think, I think that needs to come back into the
41:19system.
41:20You know, I could never remember her name, but maybe someday when I get to find out again, I will
41:25call back and give her.
41:26Okay.
41:27We'll appreciate that.
41:28You know, she was highly rewarded for that.
41:29Okay.
41:29And one more thing is that.
41:31Some years ago, we recently were watching a video of the police in the state concerning this telephone driving.
41:37And officers start to drive around within the community now and start to videotape people talking on the phone.
41:45The charges was very, very, very high.
41:50And trust me, it actually reduced their motor cell phone usage on the road with, in return, decreasing the level
41:58of accidents that he was in.
41:59Yes.
42:00So I think it's something maybe you always think about.
42:03It will be something great.
42:05You know, and officers, thank you.
42:07We'll continue doing a great job.
42:09One more thing you should tell if you don't mind yourself.
42:11Yes.
42:12There, um, what, uh, I would actually forget.
42:17But, uh, maybe next day I will call back and speak about this.
42:20Yes.
42:20So what I think I was going to talk about.
42:22So thank you and keep up the good work.
42:23All right.
42:24Thank you sir.
42:24Thank you caller.
42:25Yes.
42:25One of the things that the caller said there with the consent of the parent.
42:32Yes.
42:33And that is very important as well.
42:35You know, cause you give them a feel.
42:37But sometimes when you see the videos that comes out from behind the prison walls, the court jack here.
42:51And I just leave it there.
42:52I put dot, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot.
42:54Yeah.
42:54Because there are some persons who probably looking at that as a line.
42:58I am.
42:58They glamorize it.
43:00Some person click it as a boast and a badge of honor.
43:02Correct.
43:02I make jail already.
43:04You have to be careful with that.
43:05So you know, sometimes a caller, sometimes it is indeed a double-edged sword.
43:10And with respect to the cell phone driving.
43:13The charges in Trinidad aren't to be good for driving on your cell phone very high as well.
43:18Make your pass out.
43:19Make your pass out.
43:19Pass out.
43:20It's very high as well.
43:24But I see so many drivers.
43:28Today, I see a gentleman driving a trailer truck, 18 wheeler.
43:34And he's on his cell phone as well.
43:36I see, I have seen maxi taxi drivers with maxis filled with passengers.
43:42And they're on their cell phones as well.
43:44And not a person there get up and say anything.
43:46Yeah.
43:47I have seen TTPS drivers on their cell phones as well.
43:51Right.
43:51Driving.
43:52Could they?
43:52No, Ms. Husbands.
43:53When we are going on, and that is it.
43:55When you're really accurate, see there are certain exemptions.
43:57It's like the seat belt.
43:58Yeah.
43:59Right?
43:59Because when we are going on patrol, we also give a contact number in case our wireless
44:04set fails.
44:05Not every vehicle is equipped with a wireless set.
44:07Sometimes we have the portable ones.
44:08Yes.
44:08But that too can fail.
44:09So, sometimes they're trying to get on to us.
44:11They will call us on our cell phones.
44:14So, we have certain exemption in the execution of our duty.
44:18Not in our private capacity.
44:19Right.
44:20Because in your private capacity, you could still get a ticket.
44:23Yes.
44:23But in, it's like me driving my personal vehicle going home.
44:28Right.
44:29I could get a seat belt ticket.
44:31Yes.
44:31And a phone ticket as well.
44:33And a phone ticket.
44:34Mm-hmm.
44:35So, it's in the execution of your duty.
44:39Uniform, plain clothes, government vehicle, on duty.
44:43So, there are certain parameters.
44:44Well, I'm glad you made that very clear.
44:46We need to take that break and when we get back, we will continue with more.
44:49We'll be back.

47:20And we are back now.
47:21ASPD prevents the detention order that we're seeing happening through the SOB.
47:26We're seeing here that the officers are working hard as usual because orders were sorted out for 11.
47:32And they were held in the Gasparilo anti-crime operation.
47:3511 persons were arrested during an intelligence-led anti-crime operation conducted in the Gasparilo district during the period of
47:43June 6, 2026 and June 15, 2026.
47:47The operation was conducted to curb and detect the increase in home invasions, robberies, firearm-related offenses, breakings and drug
47:56-related offenses in the district.
47:58Substantial efforts were made on apprehending offenders responsible for the crimes committed.
48:04During the exercise, officers arrested 11 male suspects the ages 16 to 34 of Gasparilo, Golconda, Point 14 and Williamsville.
48:13Following intensive and in-depth investigations, applications for preventative detention orders were made with eight being granted and three pending.
48:23So that is another benefit of the SOE with respect to the preventative detention orders.
48:32And, you know, it's not just as simple as going and say, John does do this, so we lock them
48:42up.
48:42You know, we have to put a little more, a couple of things in it, a little more information, a
48:47little more meat, a little more intelligence in it.
48:51At the end of the day, it still may not always result in us charging because we need to do
48:56other things as well while the person is on the preventative detention order.
49:00And we may not really acquire all the other supporting information.
49:05So we tell people crime-fighting is really a collective function, not just only involving the police and other arms
49:13of law enforcement, but members of the public.
49:15So, like, for instance, we might want to say this person has been known to be in possession of an
49:22illegal firearm.
49:24We may not have held him or her with the firearm, but somebody may have a camera or video footage
49:31of him actually brandishing the said firearm that we can use as well.
49:35Hence the reason we always stand here and ask for the assistance of the public.
49:40You know, we always ask the public for the continued partnership.
49:43And, you know, I cannot say that without saying we wouldn't always get right.
49:46Yes.
49:46I like to put that out there because we are human beings.
49:49We are not a perfect organization.
49:50We are an imperfect organization.
49:52But we always try to fix where we would have done wrong going forward so that we could have a
49:58greater relationship and an improved relationship with the public.
50:01All right.
50:02We have a caller on the line.
50:03Caller, good evening.
50:03Caller, good evening.
50:04Good evening.
50:06Good evening, sir.
50:09Good evening, sir.
50:09Good evening, sir.
50:10Good evening, sir.
50:10Good evening, sir.
50:11Good evening, sir.
50:12I want to commend the police on taking quick action and issuing a prenup for that gentleman on his utterances
50:21on social media that was offensive to the prime minister.
50:27Excellent, excellent, excellent.
50:29That is still an execution.
50:32I'm sure that the TTPS is aware of what is happening in the environment with respect to criminal activities, and
50:41you all would have done a scan.
50:43It was recently exposed in the newspaper article that a fraud of 18 million, two checks, I think it's 28
50:53and 25 or something like that, and a check was cashed.
50:58And this has to do with Central Bank and the Ministry of Planning.
51:01It was cashed, and immediately after that, eight or six people participated in the money from that check.
51:12They said that it was a fraudulent act with respect to that check.
51:18And I am hoping that I'm seeing some action by the TPS with respect to that.
51:25When people receive stolen material, they participate in a crime.
51:33You have eight entities or six entities participating in that act.
51:39Because it was in the newspaper that the money, the check was cashed, and it put into account, and the
51:46account immediately, a lot of it was transferred.
51:48And it's not fair for your comments.
51:51Thank you so much, Kola.
51:52Yes, please.
51:53Well, Kola, I know you would have read the article in the papers, and I'm certain you would have seen
51:57it is definitely under investigation.
51:59So I wouldn't want to comment too much on it at this point in time.
52:04You know, it's engaging the relevant authorities and the previous sections that we need to utilize to bring the persons
52:11before the court of law.
52:14So I would not want to stand here and, you know, pronounce too much on it that could hamper the
52:21chances of the TTP as secure in a successful prosecution call.
52:24But I hear you and I would just smile.
52:30Once the investigation goes in a particular direction, of course, once persons are before the court, we would be updated.
52:38Now, ASP is seeing in the Carlson Field area where criminal activities are starting to take a lot of movement.
52:47A lot of movement is happening there, and in this case, farmers in Carlson Field are calling for an immediate
52:53increase in police patrols and security operations
52:56following a recent homicide and a series of criminal incidents that have heightened fears among residents and members of the
53:05agricultural community.
53:06Now, according to initial reports, just before 6 a.m. on Monday, residents of Pig Farm Road in Carlson Field
53:13heard a series of loud explosions.
53:15However, upon initial checks, nothing was found to be amiss.
53:21About 4 p.m., however, residents observed a body of a man lying on his back in some bushes off
53:27the roadway.
53:27The deceased, who is still unidentified, appeared to have been shot several times.
53:33I think we're not certain if the body was shot elsewhere and the person was shot at that point, at
53:41that location.
53:42But what I know is that the relative, the respective homicide region will go and they will process the scene
53:48and view video footage that may be able to point them in a direction.
53:53I know the matter is under investigation.
53:55And we ask the assistance of the public who may have seen something or have something that they could lend
54:02some kind of information that they could give to help us solve this matter.
54:05We ask that you come forward and you assist us.
54:07And if you don't want to really review your identity, you can give the information anonymously, 555-800-TIPS-999.
54:16All right.
54:18We are back to the phone line.
54:18Good evening.
54:21Hello.
54:22Good afternoon.
54:23Good afternoon.
54:24Good afternoon, caller.
54:25Good afternoon.
54:26Mr. Russell.
54:28Good evening.
54:29Good evening, caller.
54:29Good afternoon.
54:30I just want to go with my opinion on something.
54:32We can only use of the nation's houses.
54:36They're going the wrong way.
54:37But to me, I think the biggest problem that we have is when corporal punishment was cut out from schools
54:45and homes.
54:47Because if it's an undiscipline at home, they will not be able to discipline in school.
54:55And that is the biggest problem.
54:58Until that is fixed, we will be going through this year in, year out, week after week.
55:04We need some sort of, something to come back.
55:08Because long time we need to go to school.
55:11Two sets of people with a phrase.
55:12The parents and the teachers.
55:15Now, if children do expect that the parents and teachers can discipline that child.
55:22So that child will be a newly home and in school.
55:27So we have a major problem there.
55:29Major, major.
55:30The police force cannot deal with all of this.
55:35They have so much that I've deal with already.
55:37And to put that there, that is unnecessary.
55:40More difficult for them to deal with.
55:43So I'll be listening to you, sir.
55:44Thank you so much, caller.
55:46Yes.
55:46Caller, that is a double-edged sword.
55:50It is.
55:51If my mother is watching, I know she agrees with your 120% caller.
55:57But, you know, evolution is evolution.
56:01And we must modernize things, my husband.
56:03I know what you want to say.
56:04No, you're in my head.
56:05You know, yes, that's exactly what I was going to say.
56:08And we need to be careful because we are not raised in a generation where everything they do is a
56:12fight.
56:12Yes.
56:14If you, and there's something called.
56:15And the overly sensitive.
56:16There's Pavlov's theory of conditioning.
56:19Classical operant conditioning.
56:20And when you look at it, it really, let me just put it this way.
56:25Every time your child, your son does something wrong, you hit him.
56:30Yes.
56:30He becomes an adult.
56:33He's not in a relationship.
56:35He and his wife followed.
56:36His wife followed and he's of the opinion that she did something wrong.
56:40She did something wrong.
56:40And what would he do?
56:41That's all.
56:41Because he was so conditioned that the only way to resolve something is by hitting.
56:47Yes.
56:48So we have to be careful.
56:49I hear you, but I always say I'm an advocate.
56:53We must find innovative ways of disciplining our children.
56:57Yes, but you're not lying because times have changed and things that we thought would have been able to work
57:02back then,
57:02it's not going to work now because of how the minds of the children are.
57:07Yeah.
57:07You mentioned where everything is combative, that we're seeing a way of their form of communication.
57:13And not only that, they're extremely sensitive individuals, which are the Gen Z's generation that we're seeing before us.
57:19And it is one where we are still trying to figure out how to deal with them because it's weird.
57:27I'm not going to lie.
57:29It is.
57:29They are weird.
57:30They are weird.
57:31They're different.
57:32Yeah, they're very.
57:32All right.
57:33Let me say it like that.
57:33They are different.
57:34Now, ASP, thank you so much for being here with us, of course, making sure that you are present to
57:38guide us accordingly
57:39and make sure we remain law abiding.
57:41Sit-In's TNT.
57:42We get ready for news up next.
57:44At 7, continue being a hard target.
57:46We'll be back tomorrow for Legally Speaking Wednesdays with Mr Ali.
57:49We're out.
57:50Bye.
57:53Bye.
57:54Bye.
57:56Bye.
57:57Bye.
57:57Bye.
57:58Bye.
57:58Bye.
57:59Bye.
57:59Bye.
57:59Bye.
58:01Bye.
58:01Bye.
