03 June - National Morning forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Persistent rain, thundery downpours and blustery winds. There is a lot going on with our weather
00:06this afternoon. But let's first look at the bigger picture, an area of low pressure to
00:10the northwest of us driving a frontal system northeastwards across the UK. This frontal
00:15system has already brought some persistent rain to western parts and it's going to edge
00:20its way into northern and northeastern areas through the afternoon. Ahead of this, there
00:25is some low cloud across the far north of Scotland that's going to get shifted across
00:28the northern isles. Behind that more persistent rain, plenty of showers. These will be heaviest
00:34and most frequent across northern Ireland, northern England and parts of southern Scotland. Here
00:38we have the greatest chance of some thunder, some frequent lightning, large hail, that kind
00:43of thing. Also some blustery winds to watch out for, gusts of around 40 miles per hour, perhaps
00:48a bit stronger than that at times, particularly when we see those downpours. Also some blustery
00:53winds further south across central southern parts of England and Wales. The showers slightly
00:58less intense here, slightly fewer of them as well, greater chance of seeing a bit of sunshine. But
01:03there still could be the odd rumble of thunder and some heavier bursts for sure. Temperatures
01:08are going to be around average for the time of year, so high teens, low 20s, that kind of thing.
01:13But
01:13obviously if you get caught out by a downpour and with those blustery winds, well it is going to feel
01:17a
01:18little bit fresher. More showers to come through the evening. The more persistent rain across northern
01:23Scotland, that clears away overnight. And then it's a showery picture through the night. Perhaps the
01:28shower's a little bit less intense than we'll have seen during the daytime, but there could be some
01:32banding, some bands of showers developing through the early hours of Thursday morning, particularly
01:37across western parts. There will be some clear spells, but generally it is still going to be quite
01:42blustery, a fair amount of cloud and the rain. So temperatures for most holding up in double digits,
01:47just a few prime rural spots in any shelter with some clear skies could just about get into single
01:53figures. So then another messy day really on Thursday. There will be these bands of showers and
01:59away from them further outbreaks of showery rain. Again, the showers perhaps not quite as intense as what
02:05we're seeing through today. Nonetheless, there could still be some rumbles of thunder, a bit of hail,
02:09a bit of lightning mixed in with them. But as we often see with showers, there will also be plenty
02:14of drier and perhaps even some brighter, sunnier spells in between the showers. So you may want to
02:19try and make the most of those if you have to head outside. Temperatures, if anything, are likely to
02:24be a degree or so down compared to today. And we still have those blustery winds, gusts 40 miles per
02:29perhaps even stronger than that. And so again, making it feel a little bit fresher. Temperatures, if
02:34anything, will actually drop a little bit further as we go into Friday. But Friday is set to be the
02:39driest day of the week for many. And with a good deal of sunshine, it should actually feel relatively
02:44pleasant before an area of low pressure is set to arrive as we head towards the weekend. Some
02:49uncertainty as to exactly how this is going to develop, how much wind and rain and where it's
02:54going to be. But for more information about that, well, check out the 10-day trend, which Alex Deacon
02:59will be bringing to you later on. You can find that on our YouTube channel. Bye-bye.
