00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word and to ask those things which
01:56are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:09and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most
02:17merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much, the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things
02:38which we ought not to have done, and so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:01Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous
03:10and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they
03:25may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ
03:31our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:59O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger.
05:03Do not discipline me in your raging fury.
05:07Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am frail.
05:11Heal me, Lord, for my bones are shaking.
05:15I am absolutely terrified, and you, Lord, how long will this continue?
05:22Relent, O Lord, rescue me, deliver me because of your faithfulness.
05:28For no one remembers you in the realm of death.
05:31In shale, who gives you thanks?
05:34I am exhausted as I groan.
05:38All night long I drench my bed in tears.
05:40My tears saturate the cushion beneath me.
05:45My eyes grow dim from suffering.
05:47They grow weak because of all my enemies.
05:52Turn back from me, all you who behave wickedly.
05:56For the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
05:59The Lord has heard my appeal for mercy.
06:02The Lord has accepted my prayer.
06:06They will be humiliated and absolutely terrified.
06:11All my enemies will turn back and be suddenly humiliated.
06:16Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
06:21As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
06:26Amen.
06:31Psalm 7
06:34O Lord my God, in you I have taken shelter.
06:39Deliver me from all who chase me.
06:42Rescue me.
06:43Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion.
06:46They will tear me to bits, and no one will be able to rescue me.
06:52O Lord my God, if I have done what they say, or am guilty of unjust actions, or have wronged
06:59my ally or helped his lawless enemy, may an enemy relentlessly chase me and catch me.
07:06May he trample me to death and leave me lying dishonoured in the dust.
07:12Stand up angrily, Lord.
07:16Rise up with raging fury against my enemies.
07:21Wake up for my sake and execute the judgement you have decreed for them.
07:27The countries are assembled all around you.
07:31Take once more your rightful place over them.
07:36The Lord judges the nations.
07:40Vindicate me, Lord, because I am innocent, because I am blameless, O exalted one.
07:47May the evil deeds of the wicked come to an end.
07:50But make the innocent secure, O righteous God, you who examine inner thoughts and motives.
07:59The exalted God is my shield, the one who delivers the morally upright.
08:06God is a just judge.
08:08He is angry throughout the day.
08:12If a person does not repent, God will wield his sword.
08:16He has prepared to shoot his bow.
08:20He has prepared deadly weapons to use against him.
08:23He gets ready to shoot flaming arrows.
08:28See the one who is pregnant with wickedness, who conceives destructive plans and gives birth
08:34to harmful lies.
08:36He digs a pit and then falls into the hole he has made.
08:40He has become the victim of his own destructive plans and the violence he intended for others
08:48falls on his own head.
08:52I will thank the Lord for his justice.
08:55I will sing praises to the Lord Most High.
08:59Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
09:05is now and ever shall be, world without end.
09:10Amen.
09:11Psalm 8
09:14O Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your reputation throughout the earth.
09:21You reveal your majesty in the heavens above.
09:25From the mouths of children and nursing babies you have ordained praise on account of your
09:31adversaries, so that you might put an end to the vindictive enemy.
09:37When I look up at the heavens which your fingers made and see the moon and the stars which you
09:43set in place, of what importance is the human race that you should notice them?
09:49Of what importance is mankind that you should pay attention to them?
09:55You made them a little less than the heavenly beings.
09:58You crowned mankind with honour and majesty.
10:02You appoint them to rule over your creation.
10:05You have placed everything under their authority, including all the sheep and cattle, as well as
10:12the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea and everything that moves through
10:17the currents of the sea.
10:20O Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your reputation throughout the earth.
10:27Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
10:33is now and ever shall be, world without end.
10:37Amen.
10:46The Second Book of Kings, Chapter 17
10:51In the twelfth year of King Ahaz's reign over Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king over
10:58Israel.
11:00He reigned in Samaria for nine years, doing evil in the sight of the Lord, but not to the
11:07same extent as the Israelite kings who had preceded him.
11:13King Shalmaneser of Assyria threatened him.
11:16Hoshea became his subject and paid him tribute.
11:21Then the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was planning a revolt.
11:27Hoshea had sent messengers to King Sol of Egypt and had not sent his annual tribute to
11:33the king of Assyria.
11:37So the king of Assyria arrested him and imprisoned him.
11:41The king of Assyria marched through the whole land, attacking Samaria and besieging it for
11:47three years.
11:50In the ninth year of King Hoshea's reign, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported
11:56the people of Israel to Assyria.
12:00He settled them in Hala along the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
12:09This happened because the Israelites sinned against the Lord their God who had brought them
12:14up from the land of Egypt and freed them from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
12:20They worshipped other gods, they observed the practices of the nations whom the Lord had
12:26driven out from before Israel and followed the example of the kings of Israel.
12:33The Israelites said things about the Lord their God that were not right.
12:38They built high places in all their cities from the watchtower to the fortress.
12:44They set up sacred pillars and Assyria poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
12:53They burned incense on all the high places just like the nations whom the Lord had driven
12:58away from before them.
13:00Their evil practices made the Lord angry.
13:05They worshipped the disgusting idols in blatant disregard of the Lord's command.
13:14The Lord solemnly warned Israel and Judah, through all his prophets and the seers,
13:20Turn back from your evil ways, obey my commandments and rules that are recorded in the law.
13:28I ordered your ancestors to keep this law, sending my servants the prophets to remind you of its demands.
13:37But they did not pay attention and were as stubborn as their ancestors who had not trusted the Lord their
13:44God.
13:45They rejected his rules, the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the laws he had commanded them to
13:53obey.
13:54They paid allegiance to worthless idols and so became worthless to the Lord.
14:01They copied the practices of the surrounding nations in blatant disregard of the Lord's command.
14:09They abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God and they made two metal calves and an Asherah pole,
14:15bowed down to all the stars in the sky, bowed down to all the stars in the sky and worshipped
14:19Baal.
14:21They passed their sons and daughters through the fire and practiced divination and omen reading.
14:28They committed themselves to doing evil in the sight of the Lord and made him angry.
14:36So the Lord was furious with Israel and rejected them.
14:41Only the tribe of Judah was left.
14:46Judah also failed to keep the commandments of the Lord their God.
14:53So the Lord rejected all of Israel's descendants.
14:58He humiliated them and handed them over to robbers until he had them thrown out from his presence.
15:06He tore Israel away from David's dynasty and Jeroboam son of Nebat became their king.
15:15Jeroboam drove Israel away from the Lord and encouraged them to commit a serious sin.
15:24The Israelites followed in the sinful ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and did not repudiate them.
15:32Finally the Lord rejected Israel just as he had warned he would do through all his servants the prophets.
15:40And so Israel was deported from its land to Assyria and remains there to this very day.
15:48This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
16:05Mary said, My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
16:13because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
16:19For from now on all generations will call me blessed, because he who is mighty has done great things for
16:27me, and holy is his name.
16:30From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
16:36He has demonstrated power with his arm.
16:40He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
16:46He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
16:53He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
16:59He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham, and to his
17:09descendants forever.
17:12Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
17:18is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
17:32The epistle to the Hebrews, chapter 8
17:39Now the main point of what we are saying is this
17:42We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the majesty
17:49in heaven,
17:50a minister in the sanctuary, and the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up.
17:57For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, so this one too had to offer something.
18:09Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are already priests who offer the
18:15gifts prescribed by the law.
18:18The place where they serve is a sketch and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary,
18:23just as Moses was warned by God as he was about to complete the tabernacle.
18:28For he said, See that you make everything according to the design shown to you on the mountain.
18:38But now Jesus has obtained a superior ministry, since the covenant that he mediates is also better and enacted on
18:48better promises.
18:52If that first covenant had been without fault, no one would have looked for a second.
18:58But showing its fault, God says to them,
19:02Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel
19:07and with the house of Judah.
19:10It will not be like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them
19:15by the hands to lead them out of Egypt,
19:18because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.
19:25For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after these days, says the Lord.
19:33I will put my laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on their hearts.
19:39I will be their God and they will be my people.
19:43There will be no need at all for each one to teach his fellow countrymen or each one to teach
19:50his brother, saying,
19:52Know the Lord, since they will all know me from the least to the greatest.
19:57For I will be merciful toward their evil deeds and their sins I will no longer remember.
20:07When he speaks thus of the new covenant, he makes the first obsolete.
20:14Now, what is Greg obsolete and ageing is about to disappear.
20:21This is the word of the Lord.
20:24Thanks be to God.
20:40Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
20:43permit your servant to depart in peace.
20:47For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.
20:54A light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.
21:02Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
21:07as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
21:13Amen.
21:18I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our
21:26Lord,
21:27who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
21:36who was crucified, was crucified, dead, and buried, he descended into hell.
21:41On the third day he rose again from the dead.
21:45He ascended into heaven and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
21:52From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
21:57I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
22:03the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
22:10Amen.
22:15The Lord be with you, and with your spirit.
22:22Let us pray.
22:26Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:29Christ, have mercy upon us.
22:34Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:40Our Father, who is in heaven, holy is your name.
22:46May your kingdom come.
22:49May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
22:53Give us this day our daily bread.
22:56Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
23:02Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
23:08For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
23:15Amen.
23:20O Lord, show your mercy upon us.
23:24And grant us your salvation.
23:29Protect and guide those in authority over us.
23:34And mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
23:40Endue your ministers with righteousness.
23:43And make your chosen people joyful.
23:48O Lord, save your people.
23:52And bless your inheritance.
23:56Give peace in our time, O Lord.
24:00Because there is none other who fights for us but only you, O God.
24:06O God, make clean our hearts within us.
24:11And take not your Holy Spirit from us.
24:22Let us pray.
24:25Almighty and everlasting God,
24:28who has given us your servant's grace,
24:31by the confession of a true faith,
24:33to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
24:37in the power of your divine majesty,
24:39to worship the unity.
24:41We beseech you that you keep us steadfast in this faith,
24:46and evermore defend us from all adversities,
24:50who lives and reigns,
24:52one God, world without end.
24:55Amen.
25:03O God, from whom all holy desires,
25:07all good counsels,
25:09and all just works proceed,
25:11give to your servants that peace
25:14which the world cannot give,
25:16that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
25:21and also that, by you,
25:23we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
25:27may pass our time in rest and quietness.
25:31Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
25:35Amen.
25:40Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
25:43and by your great mercy defend us all
25:46from perils and dangers of this night.
25:50For the love of your only Son,
25:52our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
25:55Amen.
25:59Almighty God,
26:00who has given us grace at this time with one accord
26:03to make our common supplications to you,
26:07and promises that when two or three
26:09are gathered together in your name,
26:12you will grant their requests.
26:15Fulfill now, O Lord,
26:17the desires and petitions of your servants,
26:21as may be most beneficial for them,
26:25granting us in this world
26:26knowledge of your truth,
26:29and in the world to come,
26:30life everlasting.
26:33Amen.
26:36With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
26:39and the love of God,
26:40and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
26:42be with us all
26:44evermore.
26:45Amen.
