00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word and to ask those things which
01:56are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore, I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:09and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most
02:17merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:33We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things
02:38which we ought not to have done, and so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:01Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous
03:10and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they
03:25may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ
03:31our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 12
05:00Deliver, Lord.
05:01For the godly have disappeared.
05:03People of integrity have vanished.
05:07People lie to one another.
05:09They flatter and deceive.
05:12May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts.
05:18They say, we speak persuasively.
05:21We know how to flatter and boast.
05:23Who is our master?
05:26Because of the violence done to the oppressed, because of the painful cries of the needy,
05:32I will spring into action, says the Lord.
05:35I will provide the safety they so desperately desire.
05:40The Lord's words are absolutely reliable.
05:43They are as untainted as silver purified in a furnace on the ground, where it is thoroughly
05:51refined.
05:53You, Lord, will protect them.
05:55You will continually shelter each one from these evil people.
06:00For the wicked seem to be everywhere when people promote evil.
06:06Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
06:11is now and ever shall be, world without end.
06:16Amen.
06:19Psalm 13
06:22How long, Lord, will you continue to ignore me?
06:26How long will you pay no attention to me?
06:30How long must I worry and suffer in broad daylight?
06:34How long will my enemy gloat over me?
06:39Look at me, answer me, O Lord, my God, revive me, or else I will die.
06:46Then my enemy will say, I have defeated him.
06:51Then my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.
06:56But I trust in your faithfulness.
06:59May I rejoice because of your deliverance.
07:02I will sing praises to the Lord when he vindicates me.
07:07Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
07:13is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
07:17Amen.
07:21Psalm 14
07:24Fools say to themselves, there is no God.
07:28They sin and commit evil deeds.
07:31None of them does what is right.
07:34The Lord looks down from heaven at the human race to see if there is anyone who is wise and
07:40seeks God.
07:42Everyone rejects God.
07:44They are all morally corrupt.
07:47None of them does what is right, not even one.
07:52All those who behave wickedly do not understand.
07:55Those who devour my people as if they were eating bread and do not call out to the Lord.
08:03They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly.
08:08You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the Lord is their shelter.
08:15I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion.
08:19When the Lord restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice.
08:24May Israel be happy.
08:27Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
08:32is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:36Amen.
08:43The second book of Chronicles, chapter 12.
08:49After Rehoboam's rule was established and solidified, he and all Israel rejected the law of the Lord.
08:58Because they were unfaithful to the Lord, King Rehoboam's fifth year, King Shishak of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem.
09:08He had 1,200 chaliots, 60,000 horsemen, and an innumerable number of soldiers who accompanied him from Egypt,
09:17including Libyans, Sukkites, and Karshites.
09:23He captured the fortified cities of Judah, and marched against Jerusalem.
09:31Shemaiah the prophet visited Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, who were assembled in Jerusalem, because of Shishak.
09:39He said to them, This is what the Lord says, You have rejected me, so I have rejected you, and
09:49will hand you over to Shishak.
09:52The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves, and said, The Lord is just.
10:00When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, he gave this message to Shemaiah.
10:07They have humbled themselves, and said, I will not destroy them, I will deliver them soon.
10:15My anger will not be unleashed against Jerusalem through Shishak.
10:20Yet, they will become his subjects, so they can experience how serving me differs from serving surrounding nations.
10:32King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the Lord's temple, and of the royal palace.
10:41He took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made.
10:46King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them,
10:50and assigned them to the officers of the royal guard, who protected the entrance to the royal palace.
10:58Whenever the king visited the Lord's temple, the royal guards carried them, and then brought them back to the guard
11:04room.
11:07So, when Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord relented from his anger, and did not annihilate him.
11:15Judah experienced some good things.
11:18King Rehoboam solidified his rule in Jerusalem.
11:23He was 41 years old when he became king, and he ruled for 17 years in Jerusalem,
11:30the city the Lord chose from all the tribes of Israel to be his home.
11:38Rehoboam's mother was an Ammonite named Nema.
11:42He did evil because he was not determined to follow the Lord.
11:48The events of Rehoboam's reign, from start to finish, are recorded in the annals of Shemaiah, the prophet,
11:55and of Ido, the seer, that include genealogical records.
12:01Then Rehoboam passed away, and was buried in the city of David.
12:06His son Abijah replaced him as king.
12:11This is the word of the Lord.
12:14Thanks be to God.
12:29Mary said,
12:31My soul exalts the Lord,
12:34and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
12:38because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
12:44For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
12:48because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
12:55From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
13:01He has demonstrated power with his arm.
13:04He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
13:11He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
13:17He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
13:23He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy, as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham, and to his
13:34descendants forever.
13:36Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
13:43is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
13:47Amen.
13:57The Epistle to the Hebrews, Chapter 9
14:03Now the first covenant, in fact, had regulations for worship, and its earthly sanctuary.
14:11For a tent was prepared, the outer one, which contained the lampstand, the table, and the presentation of the loaves.
14:20This is called the holy place.
14:23After the second curtain, there was a tent called the holy of holies,
14:27which contained the golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant, covered entirely with gold.
14:35In this ark, were the golden urn containing the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the stone tablets of the
14:45covenant.
14:47Above the ark were the cherubim of glory, overshadowing the mercy seat.
14:55Now is not the time to speak of these things in detail.
14:59So, with these things prepared like this, the priests enter continually into the outer tent, as they perform their duties.
15:09Only the high priest enters once a year into the inner tent,
15:14and not without blood that he offers for himself, and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance.
15:23The holy spirit is making clear, that the way into the holy place had not yet appeared,
15:30as long as the old tabernacle was standing.
15:34This was a symbol for the time then present,
15:38when gifts and sacrifices were offered, that could not perfect the conscience of the worshipper.
15:46They served only for matters of food and drink, and various washings.
15:51They are external regulations imposed until the new order came.
15:58But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come.
16:03He passed through the greater and more perfect tent, not made with hands,
16:08that is, not of this creation.
16:11And he entered once for all into the most holy place,
16:16not by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood.
16:21And so he himself secured eternal redemption.
16:27For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are
16:32defiled,
16:34consecrated them, and provided ritual purity,
16:38how much more then will the blood of Christ,
16:42who through the eternal spirit offered himself without blemish to God,
16:48purify our consciences from dead works,
16:51to worship the living God?
16:56In this way he is the mediator of a new covenant,
17:00so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised,
17:06since he died to set free from the violations committed under the first covenant.
17:13For where there is a will, the death of the one who made it must be proven.
17:19A will takes effect only at death,
17:22since it carries no force while the one who made it is alive.
17:28Even so, the first covenant was inaugurated with blood.
17:32When Moses had spoken every command to all the people according to the law,
17:38he took the blood of calves and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop,
17:45sprinkling both the book itself and all the people,
17:48saying,
17:50this is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.
17:55Both the tabernacle and all the utensils of worship,
17:59he likewise sprinkled with blood.
18:03Indeed, according to the law,
18:05almost everything was purified with blood,
18:08and without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.
18:13So it was necessary for the sketches of the things in heaven
18:16to be purified with these sacrifices.
18:20But the heavenly things themselves required better sacrifices than these.
18:27For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands,
18:31the representation of the true sanctuary,
18:35but into heaven itself,
18:37and he appears now in God's presence for us.
18:43He did not enter to offer himself again and again,
18:47the way the high priest entered the sanctuary year after year
18:51with blood that is not his own.
18:54For then he would have to suffer again and again
18:57since the foundation of the world.
19:00But now he has appeared once and for all
19:03at the consummation of the ages
19:05to put away sin by his sacrifice.
19:09Just as people are appointed to die once
19:12and then face judgment,
19:14so also after Christ was offered once
19:17to bear the sins of many,
19:19to those who eagerly await,
19:21he will appear a second time,
19:23not to bear sin,
19:25but to bring salvation.
19:29This is the word of the Lord.
19:32Thanks be to God.
19:45Now according to your word,
19:47Sovereign Lord,
19:48permit your servant to depart in peace.
19:52For my eyes have seen your salvation
19:55that you have prepared
19:56in the presence of all peoples,
19:59a light for revelation to the Gentiles
20:02and for glory to your people Israel.
20:07Glory be to the Father
20:09and to the Son
20:10and to the Holy Spirit,
20:12as it was in the beginning,
20:14is now and ever shall be,
20:16world without end.
20:18Amen.
20:23I believe in God the Father Almighty,
20:27maker of heaven and earth,
20:29and in Jesus Christ,
20:30his only Son, our Lord,
20:32who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
20:35born of the Virgin Mary,
20:38suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
20:41was crucified, dead, and buried.
20:44He descended into hell.
20:46On the third day he rose again from the dead.
20:50He ascended into heaven
20:52and is sitting at the right hand of God,
20:55the Father Almighty.
20:57From there he shall come to judge
20:59the living and the dead.
21:02I believe in the Holy Spirit,
21:04the Holy Catholic Church,
21:06the communion of saints,
21:08the forgiveness of sins,
21:10the resurrection of the body,
21:12and the life everlasting.
21:15Amen.
21:20The Lord be with you
21:23and with your spirit.
21:27Let us pray.
21:31Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:34Christ, have mercy upon us.
21:39Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:45Our Father, who is in heaven,
21:49holy is your name.
21:51May your kingdom come.
21:53May your will be done on earth
21:56as it is in heaven.
21:58Give us this day our daily bread.
22:01Forgive us our trespasses,
22:03as we forgive those who trespass against us.
22:08Lead us not into temptation,
22:10but deliver us from evil.
22:13For yours is the kingdom,
22:15the power and the glory,
22:17for ever and ever.
22:20For ever and ever.
22:20Amen.
22:26O Lord, show your mercy upon us
22:28and grant us your salvation.
22:34protect and guide those in authority over us
22:39and mercifully hear us
22:41when we call upon you.
22:44Endue your ministers with righteousness
22:48and make your chosen people joyful.
22:53O Lord, save your people
22:57and bless your inheritance.
23:01Give peace in our time, O Lord,
23:05because there is none other who fights for us
23:08but only you, O God.
23:11O God, make clean our hearts within us
23:16and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
23:27Let us pray.
23:30Almighty and everlasting God,
23:33who has given us your servants grace
23:36by the confession of a truth faith
23:38to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
23:41in the power of your divine majesty
23:44to worship the unity.
23:47We beseech you
23:48that you keep us steadfast in this faith
23:51and evermore defend us from all adversities
23:55who lives and reigns
23:57one God, world without end.
24:00Amen.
24:08O God, from whom all holy desires
24:12all good counsels and all just works proceed
24:16give to your servants that peace
24:19which the world cannot give
24:21that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments
24:25and also that by you
24:28we being defended from the fear of our enemies
24:32may pass our time in rest and quietness
24:35through the merits of Jesus Christ
24:39our Saviour.
24:40Amen.
24:45Lighten our darkness
24:47we beseech you, O Lord
24:48and by your great mercy
24:50defend us all
24:51from perils and dangers of this night
24:55for the love of your only Son
24:57our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
25:00Amen.
25:04Almighty God
25:05who has given us grace
25:07at this time with one accord
25:09to make our common supplications to you
25:12and promises that when two or three
25:15are gathered together in your name
25:16you will grant their requests
25:21Fulfill now, O Lord
25:22the desires and petitions of your servants
25:26as may be most beneficial for them
25:30granting us in this world
25:32knowledge of your truth
25:33and in the world to come
25:36life everlasting
25:38Amen.
25:41May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
25:44and the love of God
25:45and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
25:47be with us all
25:49evermore
25:50Amen.
