00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:24right, he will preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:40Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:48The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
00:57not reject.
01:02Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:09confess our many sins and wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but
01:19confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain
01:28forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:42when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his
01:48hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word and to ask those things which
01:56are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:03Therefore, I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:09and humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together, Almighty and most
02:17merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:33We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things
02:38which we ought not to have done, and so there is no health in us.
02:45But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:01Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous
03:10and sober life, to the glory of your holy name.
03:14Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they
03:25may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ
03:31our Lord.
03:33Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.
04:11Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:41is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:46Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:55Psalm 41
04:57How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly.
05:01When trouble comes, may the Lord deliver him.
05:05May the Lord protect him, and save his life.
05:09May he be blessed in the land.
05:12Do not turn him over to his enemies.
05:16The Lord supports him on his sickbed.
05:19You have healed him from his illness.
05:23As for me, I said, O Lord, have mercy on me.
05:27Heal me, for I have sinned against you.
05:31My enemies ask this cruel question abed me.
05:35When will he finally die and be forgotten?
05:40When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly.
05:45He thinks of ways to defame me, and then he leaves and slanders me.
05:50All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another.
05:55They plan ways to harm me.
05:58They say, an awful disease overwhelms me, and now that he is bedridden, he will never recover.
06:07Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shares meals with me, has turned against me.
06:14As for you, O Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back.
06:21By this, I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
06:28As for me, you uphold me, because of my integrity.
06:32You allow me permanent access to your presence.
06:37The Lord God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore.
06:43We agree.
06:44We agree.
06:47Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:52as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
06:59Amen.
07:02Psalm 42
07:05As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
07:12I thirst for God, for the living God, I say.
07:16When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?
07:20I cannot eat.
07:22I weep day and night.
07:24All day long, they say to me, where is your God?
07:29I will remember and weep, for I was once walking along with a great throng to the temple of God,
07:36shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival.
07:42Why are you depressed, O my soul?
07:45Why are you upset?
07:47Wait for God.
07:48I will again give my thanks to God, for his saving intervention.
07:55I am depressed, so I will pray to you while in the region of the Upper Jordan,
08:00from Hermon to Mount Mizar.
08:03One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls.
08:09All your billows and waves overwhelm me.
08:14By day the Lord decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the
08:21God of my life.
08:23I will pray to God, my high ridge, why do you ignore me?
08:28Why must I walk around mourning, because my enemies oppress me?
08:34My enemies' taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, where is your
08:41God?
08:43Why are you depressed, O my soul?
08:46Why are you upset?
08:49Wait for God, for I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
08:57Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
09:03is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
09:07Amen.
09:11Psalm 43
09:14Vindicate me, O God, fight for me against an ungodly nation.
09:20Deliver me from deceitful and evil men.
09:24For you are the God who shelters me.
09:27Why do you reject me?
09:29Why must I walk around mourning, because my enemies oppress me?
09:34Reveal your light and your faithfulness.
09:37They will lead me, they will escort me back to your holy hill, and to the place where you live.
09:44Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy,
09:51so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God, with a harp.
09:59Why are you depressed, O my soul?
10:02Why are you upset?
10:04Wait for God.
10:07For I will again give thanks to my God, for his saving intervention.
10:13Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
10:17as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
10:23Amen.
10:32The second book of Chronicles, chapters 26 and 27.
10:40All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was 16 years old, and made him king in his father Amaziah's
10:47place.
10:49Uzziah built up Elat and restored it to Judah, after King Amaziah had passed away.
10:58Uzziah was 16 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for 52 years in Jerusalem.
11:04His mother's name was Jechaliah, who was from Jerusalem.
11:09He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Amaziah had done.
11:15He followed God during the lifetime of Zechariah, who taught him how to honour God.
11:22As long as he followed the Lord, God caused him to succeed.
11:28Uzziah attacked the Philistines and broke down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod.
11:34He built cities in the region of Ashdod, and throughout the Philistine territory.
11:41God helped him in his campaigns against the Philistines, the Arabs living in Gerbael, and the Mayanites.
11:49The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah, and his fame reached the border of Egypt, for he grew in power.
11:59Uzziah built and fortified towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, the valley gate, and at the ankle.
12:05He built towers in the desert, and dug many cisterns, for he owned many herds in the lowlands, and on
12:13the plain.
12:14He had workers in the fields, and the vineyards in the hills, and in Carmel, for he loved agriculture.
12:24Uzziah had an army of skilled warriors trained for battle.
12:27They were organised by divisions according to the muster rolls made by Jael, the scribe,
12:34and Mazaya, the officer, under the authority of Hananiah, a royal official.
12:41The total number of family leaders who had led warriors was 2,600,
12:46and they commanded an army of 307,500 skilled and able warriors,
12:53who were ready to defend the king against his enemies.
12:58Uzziah supplied shields, spears, helmets, breastplates, bows, and sling stones for the entire army.
13:07In Jerusalem, he made war machines carefully designed to shoot arrows and large stones
13:13from the towers and corners of the walls.
13:17He became very famous, for he received tremendous support and became powerful.
13:24But when he became powerful, his pride destroyed him, and he disobeyed the Lord his God.
13:31He entered the Lord's temple to offer incense on the incense altar.
13:39Azariah the priest and 80 other brave priests of the Lord followed him in.
13:45They confronted King Uzziah and said to him,
13:48It is not proper for you, Uzziah, to offer incense to the Lord.
13:53That is the responsibility of the priests, the descendants of Aaron,
13:59who are consecrated to offer incense.
14:03Leave the sanctuary, for you have disobeyed, and the Lord God will not honour you.
14:12Uzziah, who had an incense censer in his hand, became angry.
14:17And while he was ranting and braving at the priests,
14:20a skin disease appeared on his forehead, right there in front of the priests
14:24in the Lord's temple, near to the incense altar.
14:30When Azariah the high priest and the other priests looked at him,
14:34there was a skin disease on his forehead.
14:38They hurried him out of there,
14:40while even the king himself wanted to leave quickly,
14:43because the Lord had afflicted him.
14:47And he suffered from a skin disease until the day he died.
14:52He lived in separate quarters,
14:55afflicted by a skin disease and banned from the Lord's temple.
14:59His son Jotham was in charge of the palace
15:02and ruled over the people of the land.
15:07The rest of the events of Uzziah's reign from start to finish
15:10were recorded by the prophet Isaiah, son of Amos.
15:15Uzziah passed away and was buried near his ancestors
15:19in a cemetery belonging to the kings.
15:22This being because he had a skin disease
15:25and his son Jotham replaced him as king.
15:31Jotham was 25 years old when he began to reign
15:34and he reigned for 16 years in Jerusalem.
15:39His mother was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok,
15:42and he did what the Lord approved,
15:44just as his father Isaiah had done.
15:47But he did not, however, have the audacity to enter the temple.
15:52And yet the people still persisted with their sins.
16:02He built the upper gate to the Lord's temple
16:05and did a lot of work on the wall in the area known as Ophel.
16:09He built cities in the hill country of Judah
16:12and fortresses and towers in the forests.
16:16He launched a military campaign against the king of the Ammonites
16:20and defeated them.
16:22That year the Ammonites paid him 100 talents of silver,
16:2610,000 cores of wheat and 10,000 cores of barley.
16:32The Ammonites also paid the same amount of annual tribute
16:36for the next two years.
16:41Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to please the Lord his God.
16:45The rest of Jotham's reign, including his military campaigns
16:49and his accomplishments,
16:51are recorded in the scroll of the kings of Israel and Judah.
16:56He was 25 years old when he began to reign
16:59and he reigned for 16 years in Jerusalem.
17:05Jotham passed away
17:06and was buried in the city of David.
17:09His son Ahaz replaced him as king.
17:14This is the word of the Lord.
17:17Thanks be to God.
17:19Amen.
17:33Mary said
17:34My soul exalts the Lord
17:37and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour
17:41because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
17:47For from now on all generations will call me blessed
17:51because he who is mighty has done great things for me
17:55and holy is his name.
17:58From generation to generation
18:00he is merciful to those who fear him.
18:04He has demonstrated power with his arm.
18:08He has scattered those whose pride wells up
18:11from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
18:14He has brought down the mighty from their thrones
18:17and has lifted up those of lowly position.
18:21He has filled the hungry with good things
18:23and has sent the rich away empty.
18:27He has helped his servant Israel
18:30remembering his mercy
18:32as he promised to our ancestors
18:34to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.
18:40Glory be to the Father
18:42and to the Son
18:42and to the Holy Spirit
18:44as it was in the beginning
18:46is now and ever shall be
18:49world without end.
18:51Amen.
19:01The Epistle to the Hebrews
19:03Chapter 13
19:06Brotherly love must continue
19:08Do not neglect hospitality
19:11because through it
19:13some have entertained angels
19:15without knowing it
19:17Remember those in prison
19:18as though you were in prison with them
19:20and those ill-treated
19:23as though you too felt their torment.
19:27Marriage must be honoured among all
19:29and the marriage bed kept undefiled
19:32for God will judge
19:34sexually immoral people
19:36and adulterers.
19:38Your contacts must be free
19:40from the love of money
19:41and you must be content
19:42with what you have
19:44for he has said
19:45I will never leave you
19:47and I will never abandon you
19:50so we can say with confidence
19:52the Lord is my helper
19:54and I will not be afraid
19:55what can man do to me?
20:00Remember your leaders
20:02who spoke God's message to you
20:04reflect on the outcome
20:06of their lives
20:07and imitate their faith.
20:09Jesus Christ is the same
20:11yesterday and today
20:12and forever.
20:14Do not be carried away
20:16by all sorts of strange teachings
20:19for it is good for the heart
20:21to be strengthened by grace
20:23not ritual meals
20:25which have never benefited
20:27those who participated in them.
20:30We have an altar
20:32that those who serve
20:34in the tabernacle
20:35have no right to eat from
20:37for the bodies of those animals
20:39who blood the high priest
20:41brings into the sanctuary
20:42as an offering for sin
20:44are burned outside the camp.
20:48Therefore to sanctify the people
20:49by his own blood
20:50Jesus also suffered outside the camp.
20:54We must go out to him then
20:56outside the camp
20:58bearing the abuse he experienced
21:01for here we have no lasting city
21:04but we seek the city
21:06that is to come.
21:07Through him then
21:09let us continually offer up
21:11the sacrifice of praise to God
21:13that is the fruit of our lips
21:16acknowledging his name.
21:20this is the word of the Lord
21:23thanks be to God
21:38Now according to your word
21:40sovereign Lord
21:41permit your servant
21:43to depart in peace
21:44for my eyes have seen
21:47your salvation
21:48that you have prepared
21:49in the presence of all peoples
21:52a light for revelation
21:54to the Gentiles
21:55and for glory
21:57to your people Israel
22:01Glory be to the Father
22:02and to the Son
