01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary, as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.

06:58O God, whom I praise, do not ignore me,
07:01for they say cruel and deceptive things to me.
07:04They lie to me.
07:06They surround me and say hateful things.
07:09They attack me for no reason.
07:12They repay my love with accusations,
07:15but I continue to pray.
07:18They repay me evil for good and hateful love.
07:23Appoint an evil man to testify against him.
07:26May an accuser stand at his right side.
07:29When he is judged, he will be found guilty.
07:33Then his prayer will be regarded as sinful.
07:36May his days be few, may another take his job.
07:40May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
07:45May his children roam around begging, asking for handouts,
07:49as they leave their ruined home.
07:52May the creditor seize all he owns.
07:56May strangers loot his property.
08:00May no one show him kindness.
08:02May no one have compassion on his fatherless children.

08:10May the memory of them be wiped out by the time the next generation arrives.
08:16May his ancestors' sins be remembered by the Lord.

08:27and cut off the memory of his children from the earth.
08:32For he never bothered to show kindness.
08:34He harassed the oppressed and the needy,
08:37and killed the disheartened.
08:40He loved to curse others,
08:42so those curses have come back upon him.
08:45He had no desire to bless anyone,
08:47so he has experienced no blessings.
08:51He has made cursing a way of life,
08:54so curses poured into his stomach like water,
08:57and seeped into his bones like oil.
09:01May a curse attach itself to him,
09:04like a garment one puts on,
09:06or a belt one wears continually.
09:10May the Lord repay my accusers in this way,
09:13those who say evil things about me.
09:17O sovereign Lord, intervene on my behalf
09:20for the sake of your reputation.
09:23Because your loyal love is good, deliver me.
09:26For I am oppressed and needy,
09:29and my heart beats violently within me.
09:33I am fading away like a shadow at the end of the day.
09:37I am shaken off like a locust.
09:40I am so starved my knees shake.
09:43I have turned into skin and bones.
09:46I am disdained by them.

10:58Then there was a great outcry from the people
11:01and their wives against their fellow Jews.
11:04There were those who said,
11:06With our sons and daughters we are many.
11:09We must obtain grain in order to eat and stay alive.
11:15There were others who said,
11:17We are putting up our fields, our vineyards, and our houses
11:20as collateral in order to obtain grain during the famine.
11:26Then there were those who said,
11:28We have borrowed money to pay our taxes to the king on our fields and our vineyards.
11:33Now, though we all share the same flesh and blood as our fellow countrymen and our children are just like
11:40their children,
11:42Still, we have found it necessary to subject our sons and daughters to slavery.
11:48Some of our daughters have been subjected to slavery while we are powerless to help,
11:54since our fields and vineyards now belong to other people.
12:01I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these complaints.
12:06I considered these things carefully and then registered a complaint with the wealthy and the officials.
12:12I said to them,
12:14Each one of you is seizing collateral from your own countrymen.
12:19Because of them, I called for a great public assembly and I said,
12:23To the extent possible, we have brought back our fellow Jews who had been sold to the Gentiles.
12:29But now you yourselves want to sell your own countrymen, so that we can buy them back.
12:37They were completely silent and could find nothing to say.
12:42Then I continued,
12:44The thing that you are doing is wrong.
12:48Should you not conduct yourselves in the fear of God in order to avoid the reproach of the Gentiles, who
12:55are our enemies?
12:58Even I and my relatives and my associates are lending them money and grain.
13:06But let us abandon this practice of seizing collateral.
13:10This very day return them to their fields, their vineyards, their olive trees and their houses,
13:17along with the interest you are extracting from them on the money, the grain, the new wine and the olive
13:24oil.
13:27They replied,
13:28We will return these things and we will no longer demand anything from them.
13:33We will do just as you say.
13:37Then I called the priests and made the wealthy and the officials swear to do what had been promised.
13:44I also shook out my garment and I said,
13:47In this way may God shake out from his house and his property any person who does not carry out
13:54this matter.
13:56In this way may he shake out, be shaken out and emptied.
14:01And the assembly replied,
14:03So be it.
14:04And they praised the Lord.
14:06The people left and did as they had promised.
14:13From the day that I was appointed governor in the land of Judah, that is from the 20th year until
14:19the 32nd year of King Artaxerxes,
14:2212 years in all, neither I nor my relatives ate the food allotted to the governor.
14:30But the former governors who preceded me had burdened the people and taken food and wine from them in addition
14:37to 40 shekels of silver.
14:41Their associates were also domineering over the people.
14:45But I did not behave in this way due to my fear of God.
14:51I gave myself to the work on the wall without even purchasing a field.
14:57All my associates were gathered there for the work.
15:02There were 150 Jews and officials who dined with me routinely in addition to those who came to us from
15:09all the nations around.
15:11Every day one ox, six sheep and some birds were prepared for me, and every 10 days all kinds of
15:19wine in abundance.
15:22Despite all this, I did not require the food allotted for the governor, for the work was demanding of this
15:29people.
15:31This is the word of the Lord.
15:34Thanks be to God.
15:52Mary said,
15:54My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
16:01because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
16:06For from now on all generations will call me blessed, because he who is mighty has done great things for
16:14me, and holy is his name.
16:17From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
16:24He has demonstrated power with his arm.
16:27He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
16:34He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
16:40He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
16:46He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy, as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham, and to his

17:18The second epistle of St. Peter, chapter 2
17:24However, there were false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you,
17:31who will secretly put forward wrong teachings for your destruction,
17:36even turning away from the Lord, who gave himself for them,
17:43whose destruction will come quickly, and they themselves will be the cause of it.
17:49A great number will go with them in their evil ways,
17:54through whom the true way will have a bad name.
17:58In their desire for profit, they will come to you with words of deceit,
18:03like traders doing business in souls,
18:06whose punishment has been ready for a long time, and their destruction is watching for them.
18:13For if God did not have pity for the angels who did evil,
18:17but sent them down into hell, to be kept in chains of eternal night, until they are judged.
18:24He did not have mercy on the world, which then was,
18:28but only kept safe Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others,
18:34whom he let loose when he let loose the waters over the world of the evildoers.
18:40He also sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah,
18:43burning them up with fire as an example to those whose way of life
18:48might, in the future, be unpleasing to him.
18:52Although he kept safe Lot, the upright man,
18:55who was deeply troubled by the unclean life of the evildoers.
19:00Because the soul of an upright man living among them
19:03was pained from the day to day by seeing and hearing their crimes.
19:11The Lord is able to keep the upright safe in the time of testing,
19:16and to keep evildoers under punishment until the day of judgment.
19:20But especially those who go after the unclean desires of the flesh,
19:25and make sport of authority.
19:28Ready to take chances, uncontrolled,
19:31they have no fear of saying evil of those in high places.
19:36Though the angels, who are greater in strength and power,
19:39do not make use of violent language against them before the Lord.
19:44But these men, like beasts without reason,
19:47whose natural use is to be taken and put to death,
19:51crying out against things of which they have no knowledge,
19:54will undergo that same destruction which they are designing for others.
19:59For the evil which overtakes them is the reward of their evildoing.
20:04Such men take their pleasure in the delights of the flesh even in daytime.
20:10They are like the marks of a disease,
20:12like poisoned wounds among you,
20:15feasting together with you in joy,
20:17having eyes full of evil desire,
20:20never having enough of sin,
20:23turning feeble souls out of the true way.
20:28They are the children of cursing,
20:30whose hearts are well used to bitter envy.
20:33Turning out of the true way,
20:36they have gone wandering in error,
20:38after the way of Balaam, the son of Baor,
20:41who was pleased to take payment for wrongdoing.
20:46But his wrongdoing was pointed out to him.
20:50An ass, talking with a man's voice,
20:53put a stop to the error of the prophet.
20:57These are fountains without water,
21:00and mists before the driving storm,
21:02for whom the eternal night is kept in store.
21:06With high-sounding false words,
21:09making use of the attraction of unclean desires of the flesh,
21:12they get into their power these newly made free,
21:17who are those who are living in error,
21:19saying that they will be free,
21:22while they themselves are the servants of destruction,
21:25because whatever gets the better of a new man
21:28makes a servant of him.
21:31For if,
21:32after they have become free from the unclean things of the world
21:35through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour,
21:37they are again taken into the net and overcome.
21:42Their last condition is worse than their first.
21:47It would have been better for them
21:49to have had no knowledge of the way of righteousness
21:52than to go back again from the holy law
21:55which was given to them,
21:58after having knowledge of it.
22:01They are an example of the true saying.
22:04The dog has gone back to the food it has put out,
22:08and the pig has been washed to it,
22:11that has been washed to it rolling in the dirty earth.
22:16This is the word of the Lord.
22:19Thanks be to God.
22:35Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
22:39permit your servant to depart in peace.
22:42For my eyes have seen your salvation
22:45that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
22:50a light for revelation to the Gentiles
22:53and for glory to your people Israel.
