30 May - National evening forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Hello. After this week's hot spell, well, temperatures are falling away back closer
00:05to average just in time for the start of meteorological summer. Having a look at the bigger picture,
00:10we lose the area of high pressure replaced by low pressure. Cold front clears through
00:14as we go into tomorrow and then low pressure arrives from the west as we go into Monday,
00:21which will be the start of meteorological summer. Outbreaks of rain, perhaps quite welcome rainfall
00:27for some of us, especially the gardeners and farmers. So back to the rest of this evening.
00:33Well, it's an unsettled picture. Across Scotland, outbreaks of rain. Across Northern Ireland,
00:37especially the southeast, we may see some thunderstorms. They'll push their way north
00:41and eastwards. So outbreaks of rain most likely across Scotland, northern England, but even across
00:46parts of Wales as the cold front clears its way through. Across the far southeast, that's where
00:51we hold on to the clearest skies tonight. But for all of us, still actually rather mild out there.
00:56Temperatures falling away to only 11 or 14 degrees. So a damp picture across Scotland.
01:03Showery outbreaks of rain, most persistent across Orkney and Shetland. Elsewhere, a bright star across
01:09the east, but more in the way of cloud as we go through Sunday. Some showers will bubble up.
01:15Most places should avoid those. Most frequent, though, across northeastern parts of Scotland,
01:21where they could turn thundery, with perhaps some showery outbreaks of rain still persisting across
01:26Orkney and Shetland. A brighter picture, though, across Northern Ireland tomorrow. And here,
01:32temperatures up to around 18 or 19 degrees. But for most of us, it's a cooler feeling day out there.
01:39Temperatures closer to average, though, still rather warm, especially in the southeast.
01:43Highs of up to 24 degrees. And this map shows the comparison through Saturday into Sunday. So you
01:51can see across much of England and Wales, a fresher feeling day. So those who haven't enjoyed the heat,
01:58hopefully feeling more pleasant out there. Across Northern Ireland, though, well, you've got more in
02:02the way of sunshine tomorrow. Temperatures just that little bit higher. And across eastern coast,
02:07losing that onshore flow should be a little bit warmer here, too.
02:10Back to the rest of Sunday afternoon and evening time. Showers most persistent across Scotland.
02:17Most of the others will start fading away. So we will see some clearing skies as we head through
02:21into the start of meteorological summer. But out towards the west, that's where we start to see
02:27the area of low pressure moving in. So turning cloudier across the southwest, especially across
02:32Wales and Northern Ireland, with some showery outbreaks of rain. Temperatures still actually
02:37holding up overnight around 11 or 13 degrees. But Scotland may turn a little bit chillier here.
02:43So as we start Monday morning, there will be plenty of dry and bright weather, especially further east you
02:48go. But from the west, cloud outbreaks of rain. Perhaps, like I said, some welcome rainfall pushing
02:55its way north and eastwards. It will turn heavy for a time, especially over the hills across Northern
03:00England, Wales and down towards the far south and west. Across Orkney and Shetland, best of the weather
03:06here, staying dry with sunny spells. Temperatures around 19 to now 22 or 23 degrees across the far south
03:15and east. So all change as we head into meteorological summer. But for more updates, make sure to hit subscribe
