26 May - National evening forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:04Another record-breaking day with temperatures widely across England and Wales.
00:08The high 20s, low 30s, locally mid 30s across central and eastern areas.
00:12High pressure holding on the next few days, but it doesn't tell the whole picture.
00:16There is the risk of some thunderstorms as we continue through the rest of today and the next few days
00:22as well.
00:22So if we take a look at the details, the Met Office warning out, in fact, for isolated heavy downpours
00:27across England and Wales as we go through this evening time.
00:3020, 30 millimetres possible gusty winds, some large hail too.
00:34And then overnight, those showers should largely fade and it will be dry for most of us.
00:38There will be low cloud across eastern parts of Scotland, northeast England too.
00:42A little bit of light rain and drizzle in there, but most places dry and clear skies.
00:47And temperatures across northern Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland under the clearest skies,
00:51dipping into single figures, but elsewhere holding in double figures.
00:55A little bit fresher across central and eastern areas, but with a bit more of a northeasterly breeze,
00:59but still very warm across southwest England and south Wales.
01:03Temperatures here may not fall below 20 Celsius once more, making for another tropical night to come here.
01:10So plenty of sunshine across much of England and Wales from the word go.
01:13But there is the risk quite quickly of some showers across east Anglia starting to bubble up.
01:18And they may bubble up a little more widely into the afternoon across parts of Wales, the West Midlands for
01:22example.
01:22But the vast majority of us will have a fine day.
01:26Plenty of sunny spells.
01:27Lots of sunshine to come for Northern Ireland, much of Scotland.
01:30There's some low cloud perhaps hanging on across southeast Scotland into northeast England.
01:35But I'm hopeful it will break up at times to allow some brighter or sunny spells.
01:39Temperatures still on the very warm, locally hot side, particularly across the further south and west.
01:45As you go, parts of Wales, the West Midlands down into southwest England could see temperatures in the low 30s.
01:50Fresher across the north and the east.
01:53Some temperatures along the east coast of that breeze may struggle around 14 or 15 Celsius.
01:59The low to mid 20s for western parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland in that pleasant sunshine.
02:05UV levels though on the high side.
02:07If we look at the temperatures compared to average, still well above across southern and western areas.
02:13Just notice along the east coast they're much nearer to average, if not a touch below perhaps.
02:18So much fresher here.
02:19And as I mentioned, strong UV levels.
02:21High pollen counts as well.
02:24So do take care in that strong late May sunshine.
02:27Into the evening time we could continue to see the bands of showers.
02:31Perhaps some thunderstorms pushing northwards across England and Wales.
02:35Merging to give some longer spells of rain.
02:37Perhaps a few torrential downpours.
02:39Possible these reaching parts of Northern Ireland and Southern Scotland by the end of the night.
02:43Clearer skies in between and further north.
02:45And overall temperatures generally holding up in double figures.
02:49Cooler across Northern Scotland here.
02:51Around 8 or 9 degrees in the south.
02:53Not quite as warm, but still 15 or 16 Celsius in places.
02:58So Thursday will be a mixed start to the day.
03:01Bands of showers pushing northwards.
03:02Some thunderstorms possible, but lengthy spells of sunshine developing in places.
03:06Lots of sunny spells initially across Northern Ireland before cloud builds here.
03:10And Scotland's seen plenty of sunshine too.
03:14The winds coming in from the south, so pushing some of that warm air back northwards again.
03:18So temperatures rising.
03:20Mid-20s possible across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, Northern England.
03:24And then locally getting close to around 30 Celsius across parts of central southern England once more.
03:30But a little dependent on the cloud cover and the bubbling up of some thunderstorms.
03:35Something to keep an eye on.
03:36The outlook for the rest of the week and into the weekend is for this slow change in the weather.
03:42Initially dry on Friday, the risk of some showers.
03:45And then slowly through the weekend, we increase the risk of some rain moving in from the Atlantic at times.
03:51But there will be dry weather too, particularly in the south.
03:54And in between the showers and the rain, it will feel a little more pleasant.
03:58High 20s, low 30s still possible Friday.
04:00Maybe even into Saturday.
04:02And then turning fresher for everyone come Sunday.
04:06So a gradual drop in temperatures as we move through the week.
04:10An increasing risk of some showers.
04:11Some longer spells of rain at times too.
04:13Some thunderstorms.
