00:07previously each team will be running an immersive event right you're gonna sit down and i'm gonna
00:12process you mark led from the front i don't know anyone would pay 180 quid for the tickets but
00:18struggled with ticket sales i'm not sure that that's necessarily the sort of thing that we
00:23would choose and in the kitchen i think they're gonna be arriving in around 45 minutes is that
00:28what your guts telling you or do we know it reached boiling point food is ready for table one just
00:33get
00:33it out the door just get it out on abby's team abby show me yours marnie delivered the facts
00:42but in the kitchen i meant off the vegan option but that's me there was confusion
00:49they weren't we made it quite clear in the boardroom a win for avi well that's 736 pounds 50 difference
00:57danny was questioned you didn't sell in this task but it was mark you're a businessman who's lost
01:04control who got sent down you're fired now eight candidates remain to fight for the chance to
01:12become lord sugar's business partner
01:27lord sugar would like to meet you at john lewis beauty hall strafford the cars will be outside in 20
01:36minutes
01:37morning girls cars will be outside in 20 minutes we're going to john lewis beauty department in strafford
01:41oh that's me rochelle this is the toss right guys yeah beauty we're definitely making products
01:50i think if this is anything to do with hair and beauty i'll be well up from putting myself with
01:57project manager yeah i mean when a task comes up and it just suits you so well you can't say
02:01no to it
02:13right
02:14i am project manager this is a bit of me i don't know what it is but it's beauty and
02:19i know the beauty
02:20industry at the back of my hand i understand the aesthetics of it i understand branding design
02:24so i'm really excited at westfield stratford city one of the uk's leading department stores john lewis
03:02good morning good morning we are standing in this incredible beauty hall here they sell over 500
03:12different mal grooming products so for your next task i want you to prepare and design a new men's
03:22skin care product you'll need to host a launch event to pitch your skin care brand to a variety of
03:30industry buyers now be warned the skin care market is tremendously competitive so you will need to
03:37produce something original that will capture the imagination of the buyers the team that secures the
03:44most orders will win and in the losing team at least one of you will be fired good luck i'll
03:51see
03:51you in the boardroom in a couple of days time off you go two days to take on the male
04:00grooming market
04:01right guys this sounds like a fun one doesn't it definitely first for both teams this is going to
04:07be a good interesting task something i've never done before find a face that fits project manager
04:13needs to be someone who's decisive has got an idea and can communicate it well with his team
04:17uh which is why i'm going to be project manager on this one badly that's not how it works you
04:24ask the
04:24question and we will all decide as a team i would like to put myself forward as well i do
04:28understand
04:29products i know about ophthalmology dermatology and hypoallergenic products i've got a brand that i'm
04:35keen to push i want to go down the route of an exfoliant first wash i want to base it
04:39on a snake
04:41and the reason i want to do that is because when you use an exfoliate you're clearing away the dead
04:46skin which the first animal that comes to mind with dead skin is the snakes when they're shedding so
04:50who votes for brad based just on that would be my agreement as well hands up for me
04:59brad you are a project manager fantastic stuff
05:02brad i obviously deal with a very female predominant industry but i also understand
05:07products and the fact that my voice wasn't listened to i just hope that we haven't made
05:11the wrong decision and i am the sub team leader i would agree well okay
05:18although i don't have any direct experience in skincare or male grooming already making waves as
05:24project manager what i do do is come up with branding and products and product development that
05:29is what i love that is what i enjoy salon owner danny i'd be really keen to aim our product
05:36at the
05:36over 50s age group it is quite a key time for middle life crisis and people do start panicking about
05:42like what have i done with my life have i done enough kind of thing they probably haven't had time
05:46in
05:46the mornings to to do their moisturizing whatever 100 and like men at this kind of age also get into
05:51things more like golf they have more time for that they're coming semi-retired silver fox kind of
05:56he's trying to re-energize his life recharge his life not sort of like willowing off into the
06:02shadows of like yeah the last part of your life yeah you know let's look after me now i agree
06:06yeah
06:06i agree yeah perfect they're pitching to 50 plus individuals but they're already talking about
06:13really heavy heavy weight issues rather than the invigorating nature of being spoiled and pampered
06:18i might be looking for more depression tablets than actually moisturizing cream so the vision is not
06:24sitting on the shelf not thinking that at 50 anything stopped at 50 this is our time to go out
06:29and do all of the things that you haven't previously been able to do
06:34what i want to do is make a decision i want to go 30s to 40s target market ticked off
06:39they're the
06:40people who are going to invest the most in this product bradley plots out a brand with bite
06:45what's your brand name yeah so the brand name i'm keen to go for is venom
06:51venom it's almost like an oxymoron because the venom it does sound like a poison if it's venom
06:56and it's you know a skin product you're putting poison potentially on your face but you've then
07:02got a strong brand i'm keen to go down the route of snakes so the liquid could be a bright
07:06green bright
07:06yellow if possible we need to be careful though that this is a 30s 40 year old market make sure
07:11that
07:12it's not garish and tacky yeah it needs to be sleek it needs to be clean so we're going strong
07:16and bold and you want bright greens bright yellows absolutely brandy's thinking the product should
07:23be really brightly colored were they targeting 30s to 40s i mean a bright colored product usually appeals
07:29to the teenage market in regards to a team split rochelle's going to take yourself avi to do the
07:35manufacturing side of things please stick to the brief and let's let's win this task yeah let's do it
07:42dividing her team so simba you're the sub team leader you're going to be heading up the manufacturing
07:46team danny i really would love to do the branding just because that is my thing that is what i
07:52do
07:52i would just like to really straight away put that out there that i would love to be on the
07:56branding
07:56team you know i've branded my business myself i would really like to be on the branding side of it
08:01and i've just got such a great vision name tagline for this type of thing i feel really passionate about
08:06it so um i think me and vic are going to go on the branding team um i'm going to
08:10put you and simba
08:10on the manufacturing team i'm not in love with it i would rather have done the branding team of course
08:15but i do i think i'm going to stick with that decision i've got every confidence you're going
08:19to do a great job yeah let's go
08:2510am
08:27while half of each team heads off to build beauty brands
08:31i am really confident on this task third time as project manager for me this is the one
08:35where i absolutely nail it the rest will develop products with men in mind
08:42obviously i am disappointed not to be project manager because i am in the beauty industry but
08:47at the same time i don't know the mill market and i think that's the key demographic here and it's
08:52really important that we have your opinions and your influence brilliant
08:55you southampton at a leading digital design agency hi my name's marnie victoria and danny
09:06i was thinking the shape of the vessel could be a star brainstorm their bottle we just try and get
09:11like a star up and then we can direct you yeah so if we do that as the kind of
09:16top view yeah but
09:17i was thinking the star i wanted it to be more kind of like you know like a compass star
09:21even maybe
09:22drag some of the sides of the start out yeah so some are a bit longer and some are shorter
09:26yeah
09:26like this yeah i think that shape going the whole way through even potentially sort of going out like
09:31that and then in again at the bottom so it sort of goes boom and then boom yeah it's almost
09:34a bit
09:34like an ornament something they'd leave out on the side potentially by their bedside table before they use
09:39it most 50 year old men i know are very practical about their skin care are not overly looking for
09:46anything fussy i mean this is gold shaped like an ornament because apparently 50 pluses like ornaments
09:53i mean i can't imagine lord sugar being attracted to this i feel like in terms of our target demographic
09:58that will definitely appeal to them
10:02on the other team so i've got a really cool idea what i would love to do is have a
10:06bottle with a
10:07snake wrapped around it construction man bradley what i'm keen to do now is get the snake's head on
10:12their almost evil piercing eyes where it's looking straight forwards builds his bottle
10:18i think size-wise with the head let's go slightly bigger uh and that should that should do it
10:23i was gonna say smaller we don't want it to look like it's got too small of a head for
10:27its body
10:27going for the 30 to 40 year old market you don't look hard to niche that's how it will do
10:32let's just keep it as it is i think it might look a little bit young can we can we
10:37just
10:37test the ultra fuse green on the head please i'm concerned that that bright green could maybe
10:43make it a bit tacky we're not talking about a cheaper teenage demographic talking about a more
10:49high-end 30 to 40 and let's just give it shelf appeal we're gonna we're gonna go for the ultra
10:53fuse
10:54green okay and that then will pop we genuinely have a product there that is nothing like anything
11:02else on the shelf yeah we've we've hit the nail on the end with it 3 p.m boots headquarters
11:10nottingham
11:12for the other half of each team once you've got your base you can then start to add your choice
11:18of
11:18ingredients a crash course in blending beauty products remember to write everything down on
11:23this back sheet ingredients and the amount only anything in the end that's on here will make it
11:28to your finished product charged with bringing bradley's vision to life firstly i'm drawn to the
11:33gel base because i think it's the most similar to what we're looking for a serum based consistency
11:38like a snake serum avi and rochelle maybe while you're doing that i can do the color i'd like to
11:45do things one at a time if possible let's do five of the exfoliation property the pumice stone yeah it
11:54already sounds nice and grainy what can i do while you're doing that save time i don't think we can
11:59save time now i'd like to get this color so let's start with yellow first so this is yellow dye
12:06i have
12:07added in a bit of blue to make the primary color green michelle one thing i would say is the
12:13consistency
12:14is a bit runny for something you use as an exfoliator let's add the thickener is it called thickener yeah
12:19just
12:19thickener this is taking a long time for one reason because rochelle doesn't know what she's doing
12:27she acts like she knows what she's doing but she ain't got a scooby-doo can we please be quick
12:33yeah i like your ideas but i've got something i want to try differently so yeah should we be very
12:38quick with you absolutely i think there are kind of three things that we need to focus on on the
12:46other
12:46team the way it looks the way it feels on our skin and also the way it smells as well
12:50megan and simba
12:52aim to concoct a classic but in terms of the color i was thinking white it's a nice clean color
12:58it's
12:58over 50 and i think it's quite generic as well yeah absolutely we're going to start off with the heavy
13:03base 20 grams yeah that would yeah let's have a look at the fragrances because i think what i don't
13:08want is it to be massively overpowering so do you know what i like the black pepper oh my god
13:15yeah the
13:16black pepper that is so plus 50 smell oody like that kind of smell absolutely i think that's perfect
13:23for this moisturizer my dad would like that i'm quite keen on the caffeine it says that it tightens the
13:28skin as well and over 50 probably getting it to that point where they want to be tightening the skin
13:32combating those wrinkles fine lines you know crow's feet as well lord sugar told this team to
13:40make something that stood out in a very congested market space they've essentially created a white
13:46moisturizer how bland can you get i think we've hit the three things does it smell good yes does it
13:53look good yes and does it feel good 100 yes as well perfect so i'm happy are you happy i
13:59am happy
14:01the fragrance i think we could use is mint next door wrangling over the recipe i want to have 40
14:08of
14:09gel so let's do that now you just need a dot whoa whoa take some of that out abby and
14:14rochelle
14:15abby we haven't got time can we please do it i am doing it i'm doing it i'm doing it
14:19i'm doing it
14:19that's too much that's way too much that's way too much it's not i just did that please abby can
14:24you
14:24listen to me i'll be this is my back no no this is our final way less than that way
14:32less than that
14:33way less that's enough that's enough that's perfect i want it to be dark okay who's going to
14:41want to put that on their face i'd like to i'd like to test it on my arm richelle okay
14:47me michelle is not coming off my arm's still green we've got to finish now otherwise they won't
14:53be able to make your formulation so why are you making another another sheet of this because this
14:57is our final one to give to the yeah but isn't it the same as it no hopefully we'll be
15:02able to get
15:02something that is in between the two i had this mad system where rochelle was going to test those first
15:08and abby was going to test these after they should have just got on with it but now they don't
15:13even know
15:13what they're actually going to get because they didn't have time to actually test it we haven't
15:17tested that third batch that we put down on there in terms of the color which sticks with 748 49
15:2450
15:28back in southampton victoria and danny i had rise yeah and then i thought tagline moisture rise
15:36energize revitalize brainstorm brand names or the one that i had as well mend but if you separate the
15:46i and the e okay so it actually reads mind and i come up with the idea obviously we've got
15:52the start
15:52in there yeah and then we've got the t and it could be like start skin co yeah a man's
15:58skin tells his
15:59story add start to your story um the only concern i have with the start is that it doesn't fit
16:07in
16:08with the target audience and that it's like linking to the start of their skincare i do
16:13thought that has got kind of like a ring to it i feel like it's got a story we can
16:16pitch
16:17and it's something a little bit different yeah cool
16:23next door the product is called anti-venom for project manager bradley the slogan is shed the dead
16:30skin unleash the man within a chance to check in how are you getting on yeah good so we have
16:38devised
16:38our final formula um but brad i have to be honest it's actually marked avi's skin because we have
16:45gone obviously with the green color what so so we tested it on my arm and we washed it off
16:56and even
16:56after it came off there was a bit of green you know stain left on my arm um is there
17:06no way we can
17:07reformulate this because i'm not being funny with you i would not use a face scrub that was going to
17:11turn my face green the actual final formula does contain slightly less of that powder it won't be
17:18nearly as strong yeah right okay at the end of the day that's that's happened we have got to go
17:24no worries all right take care bye bye i'm not being funny with you but that is the worst thing
17:30i've
17:30ever heard like if you use the face scrub and your skin was dyed green you would have words i
17:35just don't
17:35know why they didn't use their common sense and go back on your brief and get rid of the dye
17:40i think michelle is being very strategic by saying well brad we stuck to your brief with regards to
17:45putting the dye into the product what she's essentially doing is covering her tracks and
17:50making sure that the blame will ultimately lie with brad they did say they've changed the recipe so
17:54there's less dye in there i'm hopeful that they've diluted it down now it's not going to do that again
18:04broadcasting her brand message hi simba are you okay hey guys project manager danny the name that
18:12we've actually agreed on is called start skin co right and our tagline is a man's skin tells his
18:20story add start to your story so what we're working with right now is called start skin co
18:28yeah slogan that we've got here is a man's story tells a man's skin i'm not gonna lie to you
18:36i'm
18:36struggling to remember it yeah it's not sorry yeah we just wanted to really get the message across of
18:41like that restart that do you know what i mean so we thought that would kind of work where did
18:45the
18:45star come from the star because basically we just wanted it to appeal so it'd be like an ornament or
18:51something they'd keep and we was really conscious of the target market and wanted to make it something
18:55that would be different and stand out to them all right guys see you later bye
19:01you know in terms of the star obviously the thing that they said was that it does look like an
19:05ornament
19:05and i'm hoping that that's exactly what's going to attract what 50 year old books going to care about
19:09that i'm not going to lie it is frustrating for me to hear that because i would have gone completely
19:14in a different direction with this 6 p.m i've got a really good idea for the look of the
19:21word venom
19:22um so what i could do is i could incorporate the word anti across the snake's head creating the packaging
19:27to hit the snake themed brief we would really like to achieve this court advocate marnie i'm thinking
19:35dark grey background and then lighter green everything there looks very young brad i think
19:43we should do the whole thing like a dark green why i think it's a more mature colour it just
19:49i'll be
19:50honest looking at that that does not hit the mark that is not what i that's not not what i
19:54said
19:54to do in the brief feel like um i really do think if we just go do it all darker
19:59green it'll look more
20:00mature can we just see it dark green please yeah see that looks more mature with what we've got there
20:06i feel like we've we've slightly missed the mark that just doesn't do it it looks too young um i
20:12don't
20:12know if it's the fond i do not like it
20:18marnie had a real strong vision but we are trying to win this at 30 to 40 year olds i'm
20:23a 27 year old
20:24man judging by that logo it's not something that i would purchase the synergy between the snake and
20:29the brand and the bottle the colour scheme is similar we have to find positives in it brad
20:37a man's skin tells his story perfecting their packaging add start to your story victoria and danny
20:50what do you think of the white box i don't know if why it just looks really plain if it
20:54was matte
20:54white or something like that yeah that would look nice but i just don't know if that's just gonna
20:57look cheap like we haven't had time to finish it do you know i mean i feel like it doesn't
21:00make the
21:01it doesn't make the logo pop as much yeah can we try navy please for the background and then
21:06obviously the logo in white i think that looks nice you know i am just gonna throw out right do
21:12do we like the navy because i feel like just on the message like why have we actually gone for
21:18navy
21:18i feel like just because i feel like navy's quite a strong color to make it seem masculine suits the
21:23target demographic and i feel like it makes the white stand out yeah you know this is a really
21:29competitive market they had an ideal opportunity to really use their imaginations and in the end
21:35it's a blue box with white writing on it i mean this is meant to be original nothing original about
21:40it i feel like the colors stand out on the shelf i mean it doesn't actually look that terrible does
21:46it
21:499 pm design work done let's just hope that we have a have a good day tomorrow on the pitch
21:55yep product and packaging prototypes will be produced overnight tomorrow launch day
22:097am what i was keen to do is replicate what was in my mind into a product the big reveal
22:14if you want to see
22:15it would love to see it yeah of bradley's bottle oh oh okay the more i look at it the
22:26more the more i
22:27actually like it yeah i mean you have to ask i mean guys you are close to our consumer would
22:33you like
22:33that would that appeal to you um i do i am a little nervous that the green is quite younger
22:40for the 30 40
22:42demographic i'm not sure but what i like is that it's different i i think if i went in and
22:47seen that
22:47on the shelf instantly i would see it and i would want to go and pick it up the snake
22:54seems a little
22:54bit childish it isn't even the same color as it coils round so there are major issues and i hope
23:01we can
23:01wiggle our way out of this in the pitch i would say the logo it's a bit childish um so
23:09that's something
23:09that might come up it looks a lot better than i envisaged so i'm pleased with it overall
23:15i do like the packaging a man's skin tells his story i'd start to your story across the hall i'm
23:23not gonna lie we couldn't remember the slogan a first look at danny's design a man's skin tells
23:31its story it tells you it's male skincare yeah and then obviously we've got the moisturizer part
23:38okay um i think i would have probably gone with just a simple pot i think it would have been
23:45probably more appropriate for the age demographic it is unique it is something different yeah you
23:50can leave it on your bedside table like you can keep paper clips in there you could do all sorts
23:55of
23:55it's very versatile it's like a little ornament yeah that's what we wanted versatility um i don't
24:02understand the vessel um i don't think that it's practical and i think we're going to get a lot of
24:08criticisms about it do you know what we'll make it work i think i get your vision um and i
24:13think that's
24:13what's going to sell it to you as well obviously we let you know that our first batch did actually
24:20stain the skin finding out if their face wash formula leaves its mark i'm hoping that this new
24:26batch does not dye the skin because that is just a disaster if it does bradley's team guys i feel
24:33like that looks a little bit like slime i'm also a bit unsure about the consistency it feels very loose
24:41yeah yeah the color the color is definitely unique i've not seen any other product on the market that
24:47color but i've also not seen any other product on the market dye your skin green even just where
24:52i've rubbed it on there my skin is is green this was obviously your brief that you wanted a green
24:58product yeah i just would have thought maybe common sense would have said that i don't want to dye my
25:03face green as you were creating it didn't you think actually this really isn't going well let's just
25:08cancel the dye idea and explain it yeah of course and then what would have happened you turn around
25:13and go why is it not green we do need to figure out how we're going to get around this
25:16this is this is a massive massive issue the color dies your skin that is something you can't get
25:24past and that really does that is a major concern it's it's a massive massive concern let's not
25:31worry about it too much leave it with me i'll see what i can come up with see if there's
25:34a story
25:35line of something i can create next door i'm going to pass you guys a couple of the samples so
25:42you can
25:42see them for yourself a chance to check out megan and simba's moisturizer we went for the white just
25:49to keep it classy from first glance i think the lotion isn't anything extra it's not nothing different
25:55to anything that's already been done um in terms of the scent i know that's the scent that like i
26:00will
26:00um it's quite a common one isn't it one thing i didn't want to do is make it overbearing so
26:06we'll try
26:06to make it subtle it's not actually the product what's going to sell them i think what's going to
26:09sell them is the story the brand the message and i honestly think it could be our saving grace having
26:15that star in there because it is something but listen obviously the thing here is does it feel
26:19good feels good does it look good and does it smell good and those are the things we need to
26:23be
26:23talking about here okay the product isn't anything that jumps off the shelf it's very bog standard
26:29it's very basic it's something that i've seen a million times before but i really feel like the
26:34branding is definitely what's going to sell it if you guys are happy to go off and do the consumer
26:38research yeah that sounds good we'll see you soon amazing guys see you guys 9am while half of each
26:47team perfect their pitch my hands are still green so are mine and if i'm totally honest with you
26:53having to try and keep rubbing them out with the wipes is actually starting to really irritate my skin
26:59the rest will get the measure of the market the vessel i think the whole thing of you can use
27:06it
27:07as a paper clip holder and all this the other i think that's a bit weak i don't think that
27:10that's
27:10going to fly but get to the point because now you're having to create this back story of it's going
27:15to
27:15be an ornament that's not what we're making a moisturizer i know we're making a moisturizer
27:22in central london give it a go and let us know what you think testing out the market i think
27:27it's
27:28all right the smells quite masculine sort of smells with megan and simba we do have our slogan on it
27:35a man's skin tells his story add start to your story it's sometimes shorter the better in it it's
27:42quite a long tagline you sort of read it and then you've picked up what i'd start about yeah so
27:49it
27:49is a bit cheesy i don't think that's what a man would be looking for when he chooses his moisturizer
27:53so this is the moisturizing part so what do you think it's excessive okay to me that looks like
28:00a scented candle yeah okay that was my first impression as well so maybe something smaller
28:04a bit simpler a bit more practical yeah
28:11so basically our brand is called anti-venom delivering anti-venom to their target audience
28:16and we are targeting the 30 to 40 demographic avi and rochelle
28:22personally i don't think you hit your target market in terms of that brandon it kind of looks like a
28:25toy to me yeah it looks like a child shower gel honestly it's just like if you see this as
28:31a full
28:31grown man you'd literally be like oh that's for kids and you'd actually look right past yeah thoughts on
28:35the color not a fan i think i'm putting something bad on my skin because it is green looks toxic
28:42it's
28:42dying my finger so i'm actually quite worried if i ever put it on my face please be mindful
28:47so in the back um you don't need to use that much yeah i put too much on and i
28:50can't i can't get this
28:51off all right gents do you like the product hands up if yes zero thank you boys noted
29:01across town hi before the pitch a couple of people said that it looked like a scented candle
29:07and also that the tagline was too long a chance to compare notes once they applied it on their
29:13hand and they thought that was a little bit of residue we did say that that's something that we
29:16could work on next for bradley work on ways to take the sting out of their product
29:24yeah so so what we're going to do is we're going to we're going to pitch this as a double
29:27concentrate
29:28the bottle that we've created the bigger bottle is something that's going to be used to mix up the
29:33diluted solution the idea being that the smaller jars represent the venom then when mixed with the
29:38water and diluted it becomes the anti-venom which is the antidote to bad skin right so is everyone happy
29:44with with what they're doing perfect stuff let's uh let's go 5 pm arriving at both venues representatives
29:56from some of the nation's biggest beauty buyers including boots super drug and john lewis
30:06starting their story danny's team
30:12we have decided to create a male moisturizer targeted at the over 50s what we believe is
30:20that over 50s they won't have a million beauty products like some of us do and we believe that
30:25the one they will have should stand out and should be almost like an ornament that they can keep in
30:30their
30:34bathrooms across town good afternoon ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for joining us today
30:39defending their brand we are really excited to pitch to you anti-venom court advocate marnie
30:48venom is a very potent thing so what we've created is the anti-venom so the way in which people
30:55will
30:55purchase our product and consume it they will be in these small jars as you can see there these will
31:02be venom shots and what it will be is this will represent a shaker in which a person can place
31:08a
31:08part of that product in there dilute the solution with water and ultimately create their own exfoliant
31:15in our products we'll come around and we'll speak to you all individually and hopefully we can play some
31:20orders thanks again thank you introductions over teams have one hour to tempt buyers into bulk orders
31:31do you have any figure in mind that you're wanting to achieve setting out a battle plan for leading
31:36skincare brand war paint for these guys it'd be lovely to go in there get 10 000 but we'll see
31:41when
31:42we when we start speaking okay project manager bradley thank you so much for joining us with the
31:47launch of our new product have you tried it uh we have tried it yeah it doesn't come off um
31:54it it will come off once uh dilutes with water and it looks like water down shower gel
32:00yeah i mean it smells like toilet freshening um we are willing to work with you and uh we can
32:05create
32:05a product which is going to be fantastic flying off your shelves i think if you could completely recreate
32:10a product that isn't just green water and didn't have this packaging or this packaging yeah we
32:17could maybe talk about it so if we could strike a deal today would that work strike a deal on
32:23completely reinventing the ground you know we can put a little bit more texture in the in the product
32:26there i think you'd have to completely reformulate the product it's not an exfoliator
32:30thank you so much for your time we take all that feedback on board yeah that was that was tough
32:36yeah i think we continue on with that theme and yeah and just own it because dying your skin is
32:40just
32:40not an option on the other team while danny does a deal i think we maybe look at 750 yeah
32:48we would
32:49absolutely love that in talks with high street heavyweight super drug i'll pass it around yeah yeah thank you
32:54it's big isn't it yeah absolutely it's bold sales rep simba what do you think people would actually
33:00use that for potentially as an ornament when you're at home you're putting it on the shelves in your
33:05bathroom or in your bedroom as well and it automatically attracts you and you want to use it and you
33:10want
33:10to use it every single day i'm not sure i actually get the strap line so you know a man's
33:15skin tells his
33:16story adds start to your story but the brand's called star right no the brand is actually called start
33:22but obviously the key it doesn't come across like that on the packaging because the star's been
33:25highlighted so obviously with that in mind as well we'll be really too keen to obviously um you know
33:29have you guys place an order with us so potentially we can start at maybe 500 and see how that
33:33we can
33:34you can take it from there doesn't work for us guys really sorry no it was really disappointing that
33:41we didn't get an order from super drug i did think that simba might be able to talk them round
33:45but
33:45unfortunately his sales skills did not come through on this occasion we could have potentially have lost out
33:50on a massive order there you know what it is what it is i think our problem is i put
33:57it on my hand
33:58and i would not put it on my hand again while construction man bradley comes up against more
34:02brick walls we just couldn't sell something that would stain your skin no trying to build a relationship
34:08with a major player avi and rochelle we'd love to hear your thoughts on it the bottle felt a little
34:14bit like a novelty bubble bath or something about so for definitely for a more younger customer than 30s to
34:1940s
34:19what we'd be really interested to know is would you be willing to give this a chance it feels a
34:24little
34:24bit too far from the john lewis customer at the moment that we would feel comfortable placing
34:28any this can go really big and you'll be one of the only suppliers of anti-venom yeah i think
34:33because
34:33we've um got some concerns around product the packaging and the branding what would we need to
34:38change for you to start thinking all right we want to actually make some orders i think it would be
34:43most
34:43everything that thomas just said say the packaging the branding and the product itself isn't something
34:48we'd want to have in our store i do think avi just doesn't want to take no for an answer
34:54he kept
34:55pushing and pushing and actually it started to come across a little bit desperate 30 minutes to go we
35:01really really would love for you to take a chance on us and really have some faith in us that
35:05we're
35:05going to let this product fly for megan deal done we would look at having 500 units 500 units still
35:14seeking a sale victoria and the name for me is a little bit confusing because it's starbed and then
35:20it starts skinko so yeah i think we really wanted to get that start in there just so it was
35:25like start
35:25your day and what it's really about is being the start of your story now like your children are probably
35:30more grown up you you may potentially be coming to the end of your career and this is about you
35:35i
35:35just think you've really missed it the mark with it if i'm honest the story isn't getting across at
35:40all i think the reason why we've highlighted the star in there is to we would be really keen for
35:44you
35:44to maybe trial this out stock it in your stores and see how it goes i'm afraid it will be
35:49a no from
35:49us thank you so much for your time we really do appreciate it thank you i am definitely finding it
35:56hard to get a word in i've been with danny through the whole process about building this brand
36:00it is frustrating when she just keeps butting in straight away with the answers that i'm going
36:04to answer myself anyway five minutes till sales must cease the coloring is going to be coming out
36:11and then there's going to be some natural colorings going in and it'll be flying off your shelves
36:14for both teams we were thinking maybe starting somewhere above like the 750 mark one final push
36:20i think the max that we would be able to do would be 100 units 100 user trial initially either
36:25of you to
36:25put in some orders and where could we start with that how would you feel about stocking our product on
36:30space nk you'll be our exclusive sellers should we do 10 000 obviously such a huge brand and we
36:35were wondering whether you would like to stock our products we think around 10 000 units we can give
36:41you 10 of these and if they don't sell you can give them back to us thank you both thank
36:47you very much
37:00tomorrow the boardroom
37:11you can go through to the boardroom now
37:31right for this task i ask you to produce brand and pitch a new and unique male skincare product
37:42apex tell me what happened in your brainstorm
37:45we decided to go for the over 50s market um this is something that i don't think has been tapped
37:51into
37:51that much you wanted something make it that's going to perk them up a bit yeah exactly that
37:55you do know they've invented a pill for that don't you that's not the kind of uh root we're trying
38:02to
38:02go down just just moisturizer nothing else yeah so this is supposed to be a what a star yeah okay
38:10i mean
38:11that could be it's like an ornament um they could keep on the side i wouldn't like to be the
38:16manufacturer of
38:18this it's a horrible thing to try and produce off the i'm just thinking in my own technical
38:23mind how you'd mold this but anyway yeah we just thought it's something a little bit different could
38:27be used as a paperweight i mean it's something i could imagine hovering around my granddad's house
38:30so um i just thought it would be well suited so basically it's start yes a man's skin tells
38:39your story and start to your story i'd start yeah i think immediately after we'd heard it we
38:46couldn't remember it could we we were a little bit shocked that we went within and go with something
38:51a little bit shorter a little bit snappier a little bit more i don't understand what the last bit means
38:56and start your story it's kind of like a play on words meaning add this to your if your skin
39:01tells your
39:02story add this to your skin care stories no come off it bloody waffle you're waffling the demographic
39:09over 50s you were kind of seem to think they were like talking to the nearly dead i mean bearing
39:15in
39:15mind my friend rod stewart he he was on his second marriage after 50 yeah so who is in charge
39:24of
39:24developing the cream so myself and megan right and um tell me what's special about it yes i mean if
39:31i use it
39:32like harry's styles tomorrow or what no no no i think it's just a moisturizer it's it's not a miracle
39:43wow simba that's a low blow how to win friends and not even friends people
39:50so how's it made up tell me what you've got what's all this stuff so in the ingredients we've got
39:55aloe vera
39:55in there we've also got black pepper for this uh for the scent that we've um that you can smell
40:00there as
40:00well it's not a bad smell yeah it leads to like a masculine smell it's quite masculine yeah so who
40:06um actually went to sell to them so we spoke to three um of the retailers because you're a salesman
40:14aren't you it's quite so did you sell or did she sell oh meg sold and she sold very very
40:19well i didn't
40:19sell anything yeah you didn't sell anything no super salesman well i think um my response to that
40:27you were having a ruck at the geezer last week telling him i'm a salesman right and what happened
40:33i think you know i am still a salesman you know you are yeah 100 what what do you sell
40:38then um i sell a
40:39service vanishing cream no i sell a service in my day-to-day job hmm okay now then affinity so
40:48i had a
40:48real clear vision what i was keen to do is go down the route of using a snake because a
40:52snake sheds its skin
40:53it leaves all the dead behind and comes out with something new sleek and stylish and that would
40:58then tie into the exfoliating which is there to get rid of dead skin using the snake as the comparison
41:04right almost yeah so tell me what you're thinking is this here uh yeah so thinking behind um what i
41:11was
41:11keen to do it looks like someone's crapped out a mint aero it's it's something different it's
41:16definitely something that's not been done before and something that you wouldn't find on the shelves at
41:20the moment so that was essentially the first usp what is that venom so that's the brand name the
41:26brand name is is anti-venom marnie had an idea that essentially what's on the side of the box there
41:32is exactly what was in marnie's notebook i would have loved to have had some texture in there so it
41:36looked a little bit more mature yeah we had some differences in terms of style choices i wasn't a
41:40huge fan of the the color scheme i think it was an ambitious design and i think we spent a
41:44lot of time
41:45on the design itself let's hope the snake idea doesn't come back to bite you actually okay um
41:51let's move on tell me the team that went off to formulate this stuff here that's you two
41:56he told you to make it green he did yeah so you it's there's dye in here yes we did
42:03yeah i expected
42:04it to be because it will stain you yeah i expected it to be to be natural so i thought
42:07it was going to be
42:08blended mint or the green so when we went there we had the way we made green was through mixing
42:12yellow
42:13and blue dye and it was through getting different ratios of the yellow and blue that we were able to
42:18get that shade over there didn't you didn't you try it out yes little sugar i tried it and your
42:23skin
42:23turned green didn't it it did it was just on my arm and um i was michelle's lab rat for
42:28the for the
42:29day you were lab rat for the day yeah i prefer the term guinea pig but um the thing the
42:34thing is little
42:35sugar it was through those trial and you end up having skin looking like avocado if you use this
42:40is that right yeah and as soon as we um realized that we did notify the team and let them
42:45know because
42:45i know that brad was really um insistent that it was cohesive with the brand and that it was green
42:50and a bright color at this point this is when we we understood that this product was not suitable
42:55to be used on skin as it is um because you end up looking like shrek that's it so we
43:01we
43:01quickly had to come up with a solution as to how we were going to pitch this um in a
43:06way which
43:06wouldn't turn everybody green so the the idea was that we were going to dilute it so then you put
43:12it
43:12and put it in water yes product is quite on trend so you changed your mind again halfway through it
43:18wasn't changing the mind it was more trying to save the skin save save your skin you mean well it
43:23was
43:23just trying to cover up for the for the team's mistake of putting a lot of you might be removing
43:27some
43:27dead skin from the team today to be honest with you lord sugar brad says it was the team's mistake
43:32but the brief that we were given from him was to create a green solution and we did exactly that
43:38yeah well i'll tell you what we're going to do now we're going to see how much you did sell
43:44um tim tell me about your team how how did they get on with the buyers well look sugar they
43:51did okay
43:51they ended up with a total amount of orders of 11 350. okay karen exactly the same thing well alan
44:02affinity didn't do those numbers they didn't do any numbers they got zero orders uh none of the buyers
44:10liked the product the branding the packaging zero orders zero
44:19unbelievable well done you lot so i'm sending you off for a treat to see a different side of beauty
44:24you're going to get hands-on special effects master class at the professional makeup company
44:31cry land okay go thank you thank you well done thank you
44:42thanks guys i smashed it disgrace total disgrace
44:50bradley three times project manager three times you try to change the product when you're pitching it
44:58i've told you before i don't ever want to see you back in this boardroom again
45:04and i tell you what i'm never going to see you back in this boardroom again bradley you're fired
45:11thank you very much for the opportunity thank you karen and thank you tim
45:22you three are not off the hook you go and talk amongst yourself you're coming back in here because
45:29at least another one of you is going to be leaving the process today okay off you go
45:38thank you so is everyone ready for some blood and gore we are so has anyone had a nasty bruise
45:45before i feel like i'm bruised every time i go out the ballroom
45:51it's the second time i've been project manager and one
45:55it feels really good and gives me a lot of confidence in my ability
45:58simba i'm surprised you're not doing it methodically that's why i've got the finger
46:01right you know i don't think if our product had been as good as it was that we'd have won
46:05this task
46:06is there any green or yellow there's definitely not any green affinity i've had all that
46:11so i actually thought up until this task that danny was my main competition
46:16whoo but after working with it that's made me actually a lot less worried team apex
46:27despite the fact that the branding and logo could have been improved i don't think we could
46:32have got away with the product and the staining of the skin i actually disagree i think that they
46:37liked element that it's different the branding team and the logo are definitely at fault here
46:42if they had come with a stronger concept and a stronger idea we wouldn't be getting marked down
46:46on the fact that we had a green product the one thing they didn't like was the logo the packaging
46:51the design they said that it was very childish for that 30 40 demographic ultimately someone has
46:57been fired now for the design someone also needs to be fired for what was placed into that product
47:02rochelle as the subteam leader needs the responsibility to fall on her shoulders we followed
47:06brad's instructions to the t this time by not sort of going against him
47:11it's put us in a situation now where we have a product that is so unusable there was some issues
47:18with the product but the reason we lost was the rubbish branding
47:40so i just want to reiterate to you three
47:52i'm not going to listen to bradley tell me this bradley tell me that because you put yourself
47:57forward in this process as business people okay and if bradley said stick your head in the bloody
48:03fire you wouldn't have done that either right lord sugar um for what it's worth someone from the
48:09branding team has now been fired and held accountable i think it's fair given that it is a cumulative
48:13responsibility that someone from the product team should be held responsible well because if both
48:19products if both it's the product and branding at fault then it's fair that both sides are held to
48:25account marnie the ex-project manager and you defined the product which culminated in a pathetic
48:36design looks like a brussel sprout um sitting on top of a turd um so i don't know how you've
48:44got the
48:44audacity to actually lay the blame totally over there i just think that the product is has made it
48:50unsalvageable made it unusable it also made what we were explaining to them really convoluted with
48:55the process of diluting it from from the product side we were only doing as we were told so what
49:01is
49:02in that pot is exactly what we were asked for the whole way along this didn't use your own thoughts
49:07your own ideas your own brain or your own common sense i hold my hands up i would have done
49:11something
49:12completely different but you had infinite amount of opportunity to test out the product before you
49:16actually launched it out why didn't you use that you know what tim you're right we did have a lovely
49:22thank you for that that's really appreciated we did have it we did have time to test out the product
49:29the first batch took so long to make that it meant that we weren't able to make a good product
49:36that
49:37works so the only thing that's in question here is the fact that that product was green everything
49:41else i did through the task was actually received well the thing is let me remind you again if your
49:47team wins you've got no chance of getting fired okay and if you feel that you have no confidence in
49:54your captain then you should step in to try and salvage things don't you think absolutely but at the
50:00same time if we didn't win i would then be the scapegoat and like i said damned if you do
50:04damned if you
50:09right even if you didn't win you would be able to explain yourself away wouldn't you i i don't
50:15accept it i'm sorry lord sugar the the issue wasn't just with the color of the product it was also
50:20with
50:20the consistency and the lack of the exfoliator in it and brad's efforts to come up with a new
50:25storyline and concept of diluting it was an effort to salvage the product in any way and make it in
50:32some
50:32way usable but it was him salvaging his own design and but i don't think brad ever intended when he
50:38said
50:38green that he would ever no but i don't think brad ever intended you to put dye in it i
50:42think his
50:43view was and my view as well would be that it could have been let me finish when it got
50:48to the
50:48point and you had a moment to edit that recipe that should have been your moment to say do you
50:52know what scrap the dye we're not going forward with it and i'll deal with the consequences of brad
50:56later you know what i could flog this thing to death now so i'd like you three to step outside
51:03and then you're going to come back in here and one of you will be sent packing today
51:07that's for sure
51:15what about rochelle she put the green in because she didn't want to be a scapegoat
51:20you know i'd rather get sacked for my own ideas than sacked for following someone else's
51:25very good point
51:27marnie this was a bad one for her she went along with the project manager but that backfired massively on
51:32this task what about avi when he's begging the buyers of a major retailer to buy product
51:37you can tell you he's now completely out of his depth
51:42okay well look i'm going to bring them back in um and send another one of them home
51:51okay send the three of them in please
52:07well i think we've kind of like hammered this task to death but i really want to refer to
52:17what your performance has been and who you've been in the last nine weeks
52:23rochelle why do you think i shouldn't fire you then
52:27i am hard working i've had a leadership position four times through this process
52:31and what i want to show you lord sugar is that i am the complete package i would be the
52:37perfect
52:37business partner for you because i don't stop and i don't give up what i will say is lord sugar
52:43the truth of the matter is i've been in leadership positions three times in this process
52:48and i've won the task for the team what three times so twice as project manager and once a sub
52:54team leader yeah but you won four times out so far and you've lost five as a team yes but
53:01when i've
53:01been the leader in some capacity every time my team has won the sugar i have to say with regards
53:07to
53:07avi's wins both times when he is pm i work closely with him and i do feel that i carried
53:13him in
53:14both both elements of that task in the cartoon it was my sketch it was put forward straight to the
53:18designer and she copied it and in shropshire i very much took the lead um i agree with marnie
53:23obviously i've worked with avi on a few tasks and actually i do feel that i have to carry him
53:28and i think that he's been lucky to have won a lot of those tasks in my opinion the weak
53:32link among
53:33us is rochelle because she really puts her foot forward when it's not needed and in this task
53:39in particular i mean i've worked with the show a few times and she really tries to stamp her authority
53:44when she's not the best in business in my opinion for avi to say that i don't have business acumen
53:50you know avi doesn't have a business by this process yeah but everyone else seems to think i do have
53:54a
53:54business i find that i find that very disrespectful i actually do have a business that has been running
53:59successfully for the past 11 years and with your investment i would be able to take that further
54:04and ensure that everyone gets a fair chance in sitting in a chair and being made to feel beautiful
54:09right well i i think i'm going to conclude and i don't want to hear any more from anybody
54:18rochelle the product was a disaster complete disaster
54:26marnie the concern i have is whether you are as just as culpable than the project manager who has
54:34left hello sugar i have i don't i don't want to hear anymore um avi that concoction you put it
54:42on
54:43your skin and it dyed your skin green but uh marnie this is a big banana skin for you this
54:51task it's
54:52like 10 steps forward and 20 steps backwards as far as i'm concerned
55:00but having said that avi you've grown in this process since you came here and i'm very pleased
55:10about that for you but it is regretful that avi you're fired thank you for the opportunity tim
