00:04:38Phil
00:04:39Phil
00:04:40You're left with one of your competitors
00:04:41Oh
00:04:42Come on
00:04:43Cheers man
00:04:44I see you
00:04:46Okay, Rachel
00:04:47You've got two gyms
00:04:49And it's a very crowded market
00:04:51So you need to prove to me that your business will stand out
00:04:55And Phil
00:04:56You've got five pie shops
00:04:58But I need convincing that this business will grow into a huge brand
00:05:03You two
00:05:04Good luck
00:05:05Off you go
00:05:09Two days to transform plans with promise into scalable business prospects
00:05:14Guys welcome back
00:05:16Hey
00:05:16Good to be back
00:05:18Congratulations
00:05:19Getting a taste of his ambitions
00:05:21Guys
00:05:22Who wants to try some pies?
00:05:23Only I have steak
00:05:25Phil's team
00:05:26Mmm
00:05:28That's really good
00:05:29My family were a third generation pie maker
00:05:31Oh is this the steak one?
00:05:33Mmm
00:05:34Back in 2010 I came into the family business
00:05:37And since then we've developed the business
00:05:39We've now got five shops
00:05:41It's lovely
00:05:41That is really nice
00:05:43Lord Sugar said to me
00:05:44You know your business looks okay
00:05:46But I need you to prove to me
00:05:47That this can be scaled up to be a big national brand
00:05:50And obviously the online market is prime for that
00:05:53It's really soft to cut
00:05:54Mmm
00:05:56If someone makes a good product
00:05:57You need to respect it
00:05:58And to be fair to Phil
00:05:59It is a good product
00:06:01I ain't saying it's as good as mine
00:06:02But it is definitely a good product
00:06:04The gifting aspect of it is something that I really want to try and push
00:06:07That's some good pies
00:06:08I tell you that's great
00:06:09That's really good
00:06:11Across the hall
00:06:13I have two fitness studios
00:06:14I've got one in Leeds
00:06:16And one in Harrogate
00:06:17Running the recruits through her business
00:06:20I want to expand
00:06:21So I'm wanting to open another studio up in Jesmond in Newcastle
00:06:25Rachel
00:06:26The whole thing that I need to prove to Lord Sugar is why we are different in this saturated market
00:06:32And essentially it's like a social fitness hangout
00:06:34Making exercise fun and not just this mundane thing that you have to do
00:06:39We play great music, got flashing lights, different coloured lights, juice and smoothie bars as well
00:06:43Social, community, supportive inclusive environment, how you feel rather than how you look
00:06:48We're very inclusive
00:06:4970% female, 30% male
00:06:52Absolutely want more men in it
00:06:53It's just happened to be that way
00:06:55It's a lifestyle brand and it's something for all year round
00:07:01Verdi, I'd like you to lead the sub team doing the billboard
00:07:04Setting out his recipe for success
00:07:07I'd like you to take Paul B with you and I'd like to take Raj with you
00:07:10Pie man Phil
00:07:13So in terms of the billboard
00:07:15To me, I really feel like we can tell a good story with the perfect loop
00:07:19So I've got a rough idea to that as well that we can really work for
00:07:24Just a very quick one, sorry
00:07:25So just sorry, I've got a vision
00:07:27So the loop is like a 5-10 second clip that is going to play again and again
00:07:31And I really feel like we can tell the story of the purchase is happening again and again and again
00:07:36I've just got a couple of suggestions
00:07:37Listen guys, at the end of the day I've worked with you all
00:07:39I can see that you all understand the message that we're trying to get across
00:07:43Yeah
00:07:43At the end of the day I'll trust you to do what you think is best
00:07:47There's a lot on the line right now for Phil, his family, the legacy
00:07:51And that puts the pressure back onto me as our team leader
00:07:54Listen guys, obviously it's important that we get the image of the pie across
00:07:58That's the main thing
00:07:58Cool, sounds good, sounds good
00:08:00So just sorry, I know I'm not going to be on branding but I've got an idea for the name
00:08:03Okay
00:08:05It's Phil My Pie with your name
00:08:11The digital billboard, Steve, Trey and Sam
00:08:14Giving her team a workout
00:08:17Also need a sub-team leader
00:08:18So Sam, I'm going to give that to you as my fellow fitness instructor
00:08:21Is that okay?
00:08:22I'm honoured, thanks
00:08:23Amazing
00:08:23Fitness entrepreneur, Rachel
00:08:26How do you want people to feel watching it?
00:08:28So do you want like humour or do you want to just be like energised watching it
00:08:31Or what's the kind of vibe you want?
00:08:33Just bear in mind when you're making it, it is a premium brand and people are paying over the odds
00:08:38to come
00:08:38I think if it was a bit cheap and cheesy it would be more targeted towards, you know, the big
00:08:42commercial gyms
00:08:43Keep it engaged, we need to make sure we stand out, we need to show we're different
00:08:46And the reason we're different is we're inclusive, we're personal and it is a social fitness hangout
00:08:52I don't want anything cheesy, so they need to make sure it's classy but also engaging and it delivers exactly
00:08:56what I've asked for
00:08:57Guys, thank you so much for helping with this
00:08:59Let's do it guys
00:09:00Let's go get the win
00:09:04Midday
00:09:05While finalists head off to build their brands
00:09:09So buzzing with the team, it's so nice to all be back together
00:09:11I'm so happy
00:09:13The rest will shoot ads for digital billboards
00:09:17Phil, it's a big deal down south, he's got five shops, he makes a quality pie, fair play to him
00:09:23As long as he stays down south and don't come up north, it'll be alright
00:09:28East London
00:09:30Base for both teams, a leading design agency
00:09:34Hi there
00:09:34How are you doing?
00:09:35Hi, nice to meet you, okay?
00:09:37First job for Flo, Maura and Rachel
00:09:39What about Sweaty Studios?
00:09:42No
00:09:42Find a brand name that fits
00:09:45When you go to the gym, I'm trying to think what you do
00:09:47You work out a tone?
00:09:50We do use that to describe some of the classes
00:09:51What are your classes called?
00:09:53We've got rebuild, run and build, box and build
00:09:56It's all about building
00:09:57Build society
00:09:58No, that's like a building society
00:10:01We'll leave that one
00:10:02Studio build
00:10:03What do you think of that?
00:10:05The only thing with using the word build for me
00:10:06Some people might interpret that to be in the construction industry
00:10:11I think of a gym when I hear builds
00:10:13I'm just throwing out there that it might be interpreted like that
00:10:16Yeah, let's go with studio build guys
00:10:18I think it's short, punchy, to the point
00:10:20It is very different
00:10:23Across the hall
00:10:25Prestige pies
00:10:25How does that sound? Prestige pies
00:10:26Prestige pies
00:10:27Prestige is a brilliant word
00:10:29For Phil, name nailed
00:10:31I really want to get across
00:10:32This is like a handcrafted product
00:10:34Next, cook up a brand
00:10:37With the logo, I think having a picture of a pie in the logo does make sense
00:10:41Yeah, imagine kind of hands like this
00:10:44And then you've got the pie on top
00:10:46Okay
00:10:47We'll obviously need to get the colour in right as well
00:10:49And then you can swing the hands up a little bit angle-wise
00:10:53Yes, oh, that is much better
00:10:55I love that
00:10:56What colours are you thinking, Phil?
00:10:58How about if we went for like a pie crust sort of colour
00:11:00Almost like a sort of golden colour on top
00:11:02What do you think of that, guys?
00:11:03Yeah, I think that makes a lot of sense
00:11:04With maybe like the tin, like a royal purple
00:11:07No, I'm happy with that
00:11:09And then shall we have prestige pies?
00:11:11Oh, yeah
00:11:12I love that
00:11:12It feels prestige
00:11:13You've got the royal colours, which is prestige
00:11:15I think you've done a really good job
00:11:16Yeah
00:11:16Yeah, yeah, 100%
00:11:19There's 90 years of history in this product
00:11:21But the logo doesn't really show the class and tradition and quality
00:11:26That Phil was hoping to convey
00:11:28To me, it just looks a bit cartoonish
00:11:31I think that's probably one of the best brandings I've seen in this whole process
00:11:34So, perfect
00:11:36I'd like to stack building to studio
00:11:38And I'd like a really thick, bold font
00:11:41Constructing her logo
00:11:43Put the sweat drop inside the IO1 studio
00:11:46Rachel
00:11:48Yeah, I like that a lot
00:11:49I actually really like that
00:11:51I don't want to touch it again
00:11:52Yeah, that's cool
00:11:53What about if it was like
00:11:54I've seen in like the colour chart of brown?
00:11:58Do you like, like, so say
00:11:59Do you think it shouts premium?
00:12:01But like, if there's like, you know, like that kind of like
00:12:04A rich pastel colour brown?
00:12:07What about dark blue?
00:12:09Yeah, we'll try blue first
00:12:10That's not bad
00:12:10No, that actually isn't bad
00:12:12I like the rich
00:12:13I...
00:12:13The browny yellow I like
00:12:15I like the orangey yellow I quite like
00:12:17What, so not this?
00:12:18No, back a little bit
00:12:20No, back a little bit
00:12:20No, I'm going more orangey
00:12:20The blue is...
00:12:22The blue really stands out
00:12:23Mm-hmm
00:12:24I just think blue is just a quite a safe colour, that's all
00:12:27What about putting a darker box around the build?
00:12:30No, you are making it really square
00:12:32Yeah
00:12:32Is that what you want?
00:12:35Rachel's trying to create a brand that stands out in a competitive market space
00:12:38But at the moment, we've got a relatively standard blue logo in a box
00:12:42It's a bit bland, a bit boring, and a bit basic
00:12:46I think that's got the right balance of playful, fun, but also has that premium edge to it
00:12:54East London
00:12:56Base for the Billboard teams
00:12:58All right, guys
00:12:59All right
00:13:00Cherry Duck Studios
00:13:02Are we ready to create some magic?
00:13:04Absolutely
00:13:05All of them ready
00:13:05First job for Trey, Steve and Sam
00:13:08My main guideline, I think, is keeping it premium
00:13:11Come up with a concept that hits the high-end brief
00:13:15Do you have any ideas to begin with?
00:13:18I'm thinking of maybe really sharp clips showing four very prominent things
00:13:22This would be one exercise, maybe boxing, and this might be a dumbbell thing
00:13:26Oh, that's good
00:13:27Do you know what I mean?
00:13:27That adds a bit of consistency there
00:13:28Two seconds, two seconds, two seconds
00:13:30Bam!
00:13:31So how are you thinking?
00:13:32Be strong, bam!
00:13:33Exactly, that's what I was thinking
00:13:34Bam!
00:13:35And it ends with us cheesying a smoothie or something like that
00:13:39I think Rachel's going to love it
00:13:41I think she's going to have something of quality to work with
00:13:43That's completely congruent with what she's coming up with
00:13:46It should be quite straightforward to execute
00:13:48And it's easy to make it premium
00:13:50That's the main thing, we've got to make it premium
00:13:53Next door
00:13:54We're going to have our chef here
00:13:56Bringing over the pies and delivering it to the mum
00:13:59In charge of pie promotion
00:14:01The mum's going to be opening up the pies
00:14:03Grabbing one and looking all amazing
00:14:05Part-time DJ, Verdi
00:14:09And action
00:14:12Yeah, thumbs up
00:14:13Walk away
00:14:18OK, cut
00:14:19Roger
00:14:19You're already smelling it with your eyes
00:14:21Before you actually smell it
00:14:23Let's go and do it again, yeah?
00:14:24Right, the only thing is
00:14:25Keep it in the tissue
00:14:26Keep it in the tissue in the box
00:14:27While I take it out like this
00:14:29I know this is going to be hard
00:14:30But it's going to have to be kind of
00:14:31Look
00:14:31Oh my God
00:14:32Grab
00:14:33Wow
00:14:34Walk off
00:14:35How am I walking off?
00:14:36Because then you're going to have my bath
00:14:37You guys focus on the acting
00:14:38Because now
00:14:39I think we're just wasting a lot of time
00:14:40Of just interruptions
00:14:44With Raj, she's always got something to say
00:14:46Just do your job
00:14:48You're an actor
00:14:48Do that and let me direct
00:14:50Then we'll get it done
00:14:51Let's go one more time
00:14:52I've got two fresh pies
00:14:53These are starting to collapse a little bit
00:14:54Raj, look, listen
00:14:55We haven't got long left
00:14:57Leave the directing to me
00:14:59Kick
00:15:02That could be a first one
00:15:04Masterminding Rachel's billboard
00:15:06Then the second shot is boxing
00:15:07You're kind of going cross
00:15:09Music man Trey
00:15:12And I was smiling
00:15:13Just smile
00:15:14I'm looking like I'm having fun and go
00:15:17Yeah, I think like that is fine
00:15:19So I want you to stand up there
00:15:20You're now going to do it with a dumbbell
00:15:23What do you think, guys?
00:15:27Do you normally be smiling that much when you're working out?
00:15:29Yeah, that's good
00:15:30But we want to be happy
00:15:31It's fine
00:15:32Okay, cool, that's done
00:15:33Guys, smoothies
00:15:34Yeah
00:15:35Let's go
00:15:35Let's get the bike back in there
00:15:36Go for it
00:15:38Cheers
00:15:40Okay, brilliant
00:15:40Slightly cheesy
00:15:41But not too bad
00:15:42But we're happy
00:15:44Rachel's really clear
00:15:45She didn't want it to feel cheesy
00:15:47And she wanted to make sure that it was premium
00:15:50Cheers
00:15:50Excellent
00:15:51I'm not too sure if the team really understand the difference
00:15:54Between premium and something that could be seen as a bit of fun
00:15:57And then last one
00:15:58Just walk towards the camera
00:15:59And then throw it over the lens
00:16:00There you go
00:16:01That is a wrap
00:16:044pm
00:16:06Design agency
00:16:07Parachute
00:16:08Essentially, we're a boutique fitness studio
00:16:10So as you walk in, it's got that premium feel
00:16:13Designing a metaverse for her gym
00:16:15Okay, so
00:16:16Moss wall behind it
00:16:18Yeah
00:16:18With our logo on it
00:16:19Rachel
00:16:20And then I need three separate rooms
00:16:22Yeah, sure
00:16:24If we could put the reformer pilates equipment into that room
00:16:27How's that?
00:16:28Yeah, that's brilliant
00:16:29And then also great neon sign on that back wall
00:16:32What do you want it to do?
00:16:33Reformer
00:16:34Oh, in the blue
00:16:35That's a bit funky
00:16:38And then can we create the room with the treadmills please?
00:16:41Mm-hmm
00:16:42You can pop some treadmills in there
00:16:43And then some benches
00:16:44Yeah
00:16:45See if we can get some green lighting in there
00:16:47Just to change things up a little bit
00:16:48That looks really good
00:16:50And then finally
00:16:51We're gonna walk through into Spin Studio
00:16:53Can we get a sign from behind the instructor
00:16:56That says
00:16:57The cycle of life please?
00:16:58Yeah
00:16:58Oh
00:16:59That looks so cool
00:17:00Yeah
00:17:02I'm in my absolute element building this metaverse
00:17:05It's the entire thing I've been envisioning
00:17:06The whole time I've been in the process
00:17:07Is to actually put it into reality
00:17:09And to show Lord Sugar exactly what he's investing in
00:17:12So good to see your vision come to life
00:17:14It's so cool
00:17:17Central London
00:17:18One area of my business
00:17:19That I want to show Lord Sugar
00:17:20Is really really for expansion
00:17:22Is the online pie delivery service
00:17:25Creating boxes for his baked goods
00:17:28And I was thinking what better than to design a gift box
00:17:31Phil
00:17:33So I've got some ideas in terms of how we can kind of wrap the box
00:17:36Okay
00:17:37Let's have like little symbols
00:17:38So you like you know we've got the symbol of the pie
00:17:40Yeah
00:17:40The same with like a little gift box
00:17:41I do have one concern Phil about putting the pies on
00:17:43Just because that's our logo
00:17:44If it's not going to look exactly like the logo
00:17:47It might not make sense
00:17:48I'll take on board your suggestions
00:17:49But I'll just want to put things on paper in terms of what I want to go forward to start
00:17:53off with
00:17:53Okay
00:17:53So on Kieran on here
00:17:55Maybe we could do like a pie there, a box there, a pie there
00:17:59Just to finish this specific section up
00:18:01I'm sure you don't want to make the icons a little bit more purple
00:18:03So I think what it would be good to do is to get our logo and our brand name where
00:18:08we want it
00:18:09But the only thing I'd say is just to make it smaller
00:18:11Because if you look at it in comparison to the font it's about the same size
00:18:14Yeah
00:18:14But I think really guys it would be good to get the logo there, the brand name there
00:18:18Just having to think
00:18:19Yeah
00:18:19Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, you get it completely
00:18:21Yeah
00:18:23I do think Phil has got a little bit of tunnel vision in terms of what he can see
00:18:27I mean I have loads of ideas I'd love to throw out there
00:18:30But at the end of the day he has to pitch this tomorrow to industry experts and back it
00:18:33So as long as he's happy, I'm happy
00:18:36And do you want to keep that same font? I'm not trying to question it
00:18:39I'm just throwing it out there
00:18:39Yeah, I think any kind of subtext on the box I think we'll use that font
00:18:46If we could have a first text saying award winning
00:18:49Bringing his digital billboard to life
00:18:52The second one that comes up is handcrafted
00:18:55DJ turned pie promoter
00:18:57Verdi
00:18:59And the third one is from our family to yours
00:19:01Which is the last one
00:19:02Too many words
00:19:03I don't like that
00:19:04We haven't got long left and we also need to add a background
00:19:06So, erm, I just, I just, I sub-team need
00:19:09I just want to take some control there
00:19:10Let's, let's go on backgrounds for now
00:19:11Do you have a front of a house?
00:19:13That one, yeah
00:19:13Yeah, let's look at that one
00:19:14Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
00:19:15With the flags in there
00:19:16I would say, I don't know
00:19:18You, you make it to the shiny, but I feel like it needs to look clean
00:19:21Give me, Rod, give me a quick second
00:19:22If I can just say
00:19:23Okay, I've got an idea
00:19:24I've got an idea
00:19:25So, could we have two boxes of orange?
00:19:28So, could the back pan be orange here if that's alright?
00:19:30I just want to try something
00:19:31No, because it's going to clash with the pie
00:19:32Huh?
00:19:33It's going to clash with the pie
00:19:37Across the hall
00:19:39My concern is the premium aspect of it
00:19:43For Rachel's fitness ad
00:19:45Yeah, we need a really, really good premium background
00:19:48Finishing touch-ins
00:19:50Wow
00:19:50Yeah, I like it
00:19:51I like it, guys
00:19:52I think it looks great
00:19:53So, Summer, what would be great is if we could see the logo for my team
00:19:56Do you have it?
00:19:57Yeah
00:20:01I'm a bit confused about the build
00:20:02When I think build, I'm thinking of, like, body builder
00:20:05And then my, sort of, musician's hat is thinking
00:20:07Is it a music studio? Is it...
00:20:10Yeah
00:20:10It doesn't say gym
00:20:11Yeah
00:20:11You know, naturally, you look at building
00:20:13You think of, like, builders, building company
00:20:16I'm guessing the drop
00:20:17I'm guessing that's sweat
00:20:18I don't know
00:20:19Or water
00:20:19Water
00:20:20I think the fact that we're having to guess that it's sweat, though
00:20:23We're having to, kind of, think
00:20:24I guess the thing is
00:20:26If you have to explain it
00:20:28The experts might be put off
00:20:31So, when I first saw the logo
00:20:33The blue on it
00:20:34Really didn't work
00:20:35I'd have gone for something a little bit more subdued
00:20:38Erm
00:20:38The, sort of, teardrop thing
00:20:40It wasn't clear what it was
00:20:41I wasn't blown away, to be honest
00:20:43Let's definitely have it in at the end, right?
00:20:45After the towel's thrown in
00:20:47Yes
00:20:47Yes
00:20:49Do you know what?
00:20:50I'm actually
00:20:50I'm really proud of that
00:20:51I'm really proud of that
00:20:53And I feel like Rachel is gonna love it
00:20:567pm
00:20:57You know what, guys?
00:20:58We got the message across
00:20:59So, I'm quite happy with that
00:21:00I don't like you guys
00:21:01I'm happy with that
00:21:01Yeah?
00:21:02For the finalists, preparations complete
00:21:05Shall we go get some sleep?
00:21:07Let's do it
00:21:07OK
00:21:10Tomorrow, pitch their businesses to Lord Sugar
00:21:178am
00:21:19Right, guys
00:21:19Good morning
00:21:20Getting a first peek at his pie promo
00:21:23So excited to see what you come up with the billboard yesterday
00:21:26Phil
00:21:28Let's go
00:21:43It is quite simple in terms of the design elements
00:21:46It could have done with a bit more finessing
00:21:47I did say it was obviously important that the pies were front and centre
00:21:51The thing is what we felt like is there was a lot of different messages that your brand had
00:21:54And it was quite hard to show in the video
00:21:56So we really wanted to use the text element to make sure
00:21:58Because you've got to understand it's a ten second loop
00:22:00It would have been nice maybe if we could have done more pie
00:22:05So that is something which is slightly disappointing
00:22:10Next door
00:22:10Shall we have a look at the billboard?
00:22:13Yeah, let's have a look at it
00:22:14The big reveal of Rachel's boutique brand
00:22:18Guys, I absolutely love it
00:22:20You smashed it
00:22:21Do you want to come work for me?
00:22:22Yeah
00:22:25The only question I've got
00:22:28Is obviously your outfits, Anne
00:22:31I imagine the people that will be going to this gym
00:22:34Will be wearing a lot of the premium sportswear brand
00:22:37And you look like the female version of Mr. Motivator
00:22:40To be honest
00:22:41Yeah, it is Pride Month
00:22:42Do you know what?
00:22:42Do you know what?
00:22:43To be honest with you
00:22:44It stands out against the backdrop
00:22:46Yeah
00:22:47And I think with women as well
00:22:48You know, it's nice to wear a bit of colour into the gym
00:22:51Make you feel good
00:22:54So guys, as you know
00:22:55Yesterday we created the brand
00:22:56On the other team
00:22:59Alright
00:22:59That's pretty decent
00:23:01What are we saying, guys?
00:23:02Phil presents his packaging
00:23:04The only thing I'd say, right
00:23:06Is that
00:23:06If I'm reading this
00:23:08And the brand says
00:23:08Prestige Pies, right
00:23:10That packaging
00:23:11Don't shout prestige to me
00:23:14I feel like prestige
00:23:15Gives them an element of it being luxury
00:23:17And I feel like the logo
00:23:18Is a little bit comical
00:23:20A bit cartoonified
00:23:22If that makes sense
00:23:22Yeah
00:23:23That's my personal reaction
00:23:24No, no, I'll take on board your feedback
00:23:26I think
00:23:26Just to have the slightly more cartoon pie
00:23:28It kind of
00:23:29Maybe felt as if it was aiming towards that slightly younger demographic
00:23:35We're going to the juice bar
00:23:37So we've just got someone on the juice bar here
00:23:40Giving her team a virtual tour
00:23:42Some mirrors
00:23:43The cycle of life
00:23:44Whoa!
00:23:45Nice!
00:23:47Rachel
00:23:48So we're going to walk in to the reception area of Studio Build
00:23:51You've got logo guys
00:23:53I don't usually use any kind of icons or symbols
00:23:55So having the little sweat drop was definitely
00:23:57Oh, it was a sweat drop?
00:23:59Because we were trying to
00:23:59Yeah
00:23:59We were like
00:24:00Is it water?
00:24:00Water or sweat drop?
00:24:02The thing we had a bit of a debate on was the build
00:24:04So we were like
00:24:05Oh, hang on
00:24:06That would be an important thing to call out when you're doing the presentation
00:24:09I think
00:24:09Yeah, I think that's the only thing
00:24:10You might get the whole
00:24:12Is it a building company or a building?
00:24:14Yeah
00:24:14You know, you've got to play devil's advocate with this, haven't you?
00:24:17And just be prepared for whatever they're going to say
00:24:19100%
00:24:19I think when you see it in context, it will make sense
00:24:2710am
00:24:29Today, half of each team will seek out feedback
00:24:33While the finalists prepare to pitch
00:24:35When you say things like community
00:24:38It's quite an emotional, emotive word, isn't it?
00:24:41Community?
00:24:42Yeah
00:24:43So basically, I'll probably just come out
00:24:45Yeah
00:24:45I'll have the mic on
00:24:47Yeah, so I'll say
00:24:48Um
00:24:49Like
00:24:49Good evening, everybody
00:24:51So, um
00:24:53Prestige Pies
00:24:53Is a small, family-owned baker's
00:24:55Who specialise in quality, handmade pies
00:24:59So
00:25:00Um
00:25:00Yeah
00:25:01What I'd like to do today
00:25:03Is take you through a little bit of a journey
00:25:04In terms of our history
00:25:06Where we are
00:25:07Where we
00:25:07In terms of our history
00:25:08So my grandma, Eva
00:25:09Started at her restaurant
00:25:11So, um
00:25:12Yeah, so I've kind of run out of words
00:25:13So I'll obviously think of these thoughts through
00:25:16And Phil, I hear all the information
00:25:18But just remember
00:25:18Take a little pause
00:25:19Speaking very quickly here
00:25:20It's just
00:25:21You're saying the right things
00:25:22It's just a lot
00:25:23Yeah
00:25:24Light pauser
00:25:25Just a little bit of pauses
00:25:26And, um
00:25:27We can take it from there
00:25:30East London
00:25:32Here it is
00:25:33Oh my god
00:25:33Ah
00:25:35Seeing if studio build hits the spot
00:25:37Like it
00:25:38Studio build
00:25:39But the question is
00:25:40Do the public like it?
00:25:42Maura, Steve and Sam
00:25:44What do you get from that logo?
00:25:46Yeah, I think it's a bit let down by the logo
00:25:48The logo to me
00:25:49It's not obvious what it's for
00:25:51It's almost
00:25:51It could be a builder's merchants
00:25:54I mean, well the initial
00:25:55The studio build bit
00:25:56I wasn't really sure what it was
00:25:58Referring to
00:25:59What do you think it's advertising?
00:26:01To me it kind of looked like a water droplet
00:26:03Yeah
00:26:03So I wasn't sure if it was like a
00:26:05Plumber's or building
00:26:06But then it also gave me a vibe
00:26:08Like it was for fitness
00:26:09But like boxing vibes as well
00:26:12You shouldn't have to explain a logo
00:26:13And for someone to get it
00:26:15And I feel like that's what
00:26:16We're getting feedback wise today
00:26:20Hoping prestige pies leaves a good taste
00:26:23Oh my god
00:26:24Look at that
00:26:25Here we go
00:26:26Paul, Raj and Felusha
00:26:29So looking at our billboard
00:26:30I mean, what's your first impression?
00:26:32Does anything jump out at you at all?
00:26:33It's not entirely clear
00:26:35Whether you
00:26:35The pies will be delivered to your house
00:26:37Okay
00:26:37Or whether there's a bakery
00:26:38Okay, well that's fine
00:26:39Okay
00:26:40And what do you think of the logo?
00:26:41First impressions?
00:26:42It's quite retro
00:26:43Retro?
00:26:44Okay
00:26:44And cartoony
00:26:45Okay
00:26:47The logo looks a bit cartoony
00:26:49Okay
00:26:49So what's your opinion of pies by Paulston?
00:26:52I mean, yeah
00:26:52Could be a cool idea
00:26:53For like parties and stuff
00:26:54Okay, cool
00:26:55What do you think of the name prestige pies?
00:26:57Erm
00:26:59Quite forgettable
00:27:05One Marylebone
00:27:08In just three hours
00:27:10In just three hours
00:27:11Okay
00:27:12Finalists will pitch their businesses to Lord Sugar
00:27:15Honestly, I can't actually believe I'm here
00:27:17And leading industry experts
00:27:20How do you feel?
00:27:21A bit of well to be honest
00:27:22It's a lot to take in
00:27:23I've looked at some name tags
00:27:24And I'm already starting to re
00:27:26To actually be here today
00:27:27Is genuinely something I would never ever ever genuinely have imagined
00:27:31And so
00:27:32Yeah, a little bit emotional I've got to say
00:27:34We're so proud
00:27:35Together I've not even done it
00:27:36Yeah
00:27:39But first
00:27:40Hiya
00:27:41Hello guys
00:27:41Hello
00:27:42A chance to filter through feedback
00:27:46Okay, so we've got a mix of views
00:27:48Yeah
00:27:49The logo
00:27:50They just said it looks really cartoony
00:27:52Yeah
00:27:53But it wasn't like
00:27:54Oh, it's terrible
00:27:55Yeah
00:27:55It was just that that was the first thing that come to their red was
00:27:58Cartoony
00:27:59Yeah
00:27:59And they didn't really get the post element
00:28:01Because I guess
00:28:02It didn't show it being posted as such
00:28:04Yeah
00:28:04So it is a two or three watch thing for people to fully digest it
00:28:07Yeah
00:28:07You've got to understand it is a loop
00:28:08The format is for people to watch it again
00:28:10And like a few times at least
00:28:11But all I would say
00:28:12If someone just watches it once
00:28:14Yeah
00:28:15Be prepared for then
00:28:16Sort of comments that they might say
00:28:18Well, what's the message?
00:28:21The logo
00:28:22A bit of confusion over the initial build
00:28:26Could it be a building merchant?
00:28:28Could it be a plumber's?
00:28:30Could everybody kind of tell what it was when they first saw the logo?
00:28:33Yeah, that was something else as well
00:28:34Yeah
00:28:35I think that's I think one thing
00:28:37They look at the logo
00:28:39Unsure until they actually then watch the video
00:28:42Okay
00:28:42Just as long as you kind of like catch that early
00:28:44With explaining the build and everything like that
00:28:47And the sweat drop
00:28:48I think you'll be fine
00:28:50Yeah
00:28:534pm
00:28:54Doors open to some of the biggest names in British business
00:28:58Including experts from the worlds of fitness and food
00:29:07Yeah
00:29:08I'm 23
00:29:08I set up a beauty fitness studio offering high-end fitness classes
00:29:12It's a family-run home bakers specialising in quality homemade pies
00:29:21First to pitch
00:29:22Phil
00:29:23This is not only my future on the line here
00:29:25This is also my children's future
00:29:27I wanted to create a legacy for them
00:29:29To step into my shoes
00:29:30And take the business from the fourth generation
00:29:32There's so much on the line here
00:29:34It's a pivotal point in my family history
00:29:36Everything is hanging on this pitch
00:29:39Go Phil
00:29:47Let me take you back to 1933
00:29:50In Bognor Regis
00:29:51That was where the first prestige pie was created
00:29:55Roll forward to 2009
00:29:57And my mum said to me
00:29:58What are you going to do with your life?
00:30:00You're a bum
00:30:01You're sitting at home
00:30:03And you're not paying rent
00:30:04Come on, what are you going to do?
00:30:05And it was at that point that I absolutely fell in love with the business
00:30:09And I knew at that stage
00:30:11That this was in my blood
00:30:12And I wanted to take this family business to the next level
00:30:14We currently have five shops along the south coast of the UK
00:30:18Our central kitchen is where we bake all of our pies fresh six days a week
00:30:23And make sure the quality of the product is as expected every single time
00:30:29Our newest service, Pies by Post, that we launched in 2018
00:30:33Is exactly what it says on the tin
00:30:35They go on our simple to use website
00:30:37And they can order custom pie packs that we provide to them
00:30:40This is a service that we really, really believe in
00:30:43And we think has huge potential for growth as we grow as a business
00:30:47So next I'm going to show you a billboard that we've had up in Westfield Shopping Centre
00:30:51Just to let people know you can actually buy top quality pies
00:30:55Handmade, delivered to your door
00:30:57For affordable prices anywhere in the country
00:31:01Okay, so moving on to some financials
00:31:05In the last tax year we turned over £2.7 million
00:31:09But just 10% of that was contributed by our Pies by Post delivery service
00:31:13In 2021 we had a contribution of 21% by Pies by Post
00:31:18And we believe that we can increase the contribution of Pies by Post
00:31:21To 50% of our overall revenue
00:31:23And that concludes my pitch for this product
00:31:26If any of you have any questions I'll be happy to hear
00:31:29Thank you once again for listening to me
00:31:31And it's been a real pleasure
00:31:32Hi Phil, nice presentation
00:31:34Thank you
00:31:35And my name is Tom Molnar
00:31:36I started Gale's Bakery
00:31:38Hello
00:31:39And one of the things that we struggle with as a premium producer
00:31:42Is that you want to kind of put the money into the food, right?
00:31:45But when you do the delivery model
00:31:47Quite a lot of price that somebody pays is going to go into the delivery
00:31:51So we believe as the world becomes more convenient and delivery based
00:31:57People will just understand the packaging costs
00:31:59And delivery costs just come as part and parcel of buying a product
00:32:03Okay
00:32:03Hi Phil, thank you for your presentation
00:32:05I'm Shalina, restauranteur, author and winner of Masterchef
00:32:09So what's going to make Prestige Pies stand out from the crowd?
00:32:13Obviously what we do have is what we believe to be some of the best pies in the country
00:32:17It's just really having the investment and having the time and the energy
00:32:20To make sure that we've got a clear strategy to get these pies into people's homes
00:32:25Thank you for your questions
00:32:26I really hope you've enjoyed the presentation and have a lovely evening
00:32:37Come on, come here, come here
00:32:39Bring it in, bro
00:32:40You did so well done
00:32:41You did so amazing
00:32:44For Lord Sugar
00:32:46Some of the other businesses that I have prospered during the pandemic
00:32:52Expert feedback
00:32:54I'd like to hear your point about the future of online sales of pies
00:32:59We started off selling hires online
00:33:02And it's true
00:33:03We hit 3 million during that year of Covid
00:33:05And we're back down to about 1.8 million now
00:33:08He's got it in his head
00:33:09That he wants to do this online stuff
00:33:11I mean, no
00:33:12That only makes up 10% of his business at the moment
00:33:14I know, I know
00:33:15And he wants to expand that
00:33:16I think 10% is a good number
00:33:18I mean, some of the people that are going online were up to 20-30%
00:33:22But, you know, beyond 10% is quite a bit
00:33:25And he's clearly got a successful business model
00:33:28He's already got five open
00:33:29So that for me now is just about how he refines it to replicate it
00:33:33And open more shops
00:33:34Absolutely
00:33:40Next to take the floor, Rachel
00:33:56Good evening ladies and gentlemen
00:33:59Age 23
00:34:00I set up a boutique fitness studio
00:34:02Offering high-end classes
00:34:04With an on-site health cafe
00:34:06Our core values are surrounded by delivering high energy
00:34:10And inclusive group fitness classes
00:34:12That cost you a little bit less than the personal trainer would
00:34:15But you're still getting that personal service
00:34:17So, where are we going?
00:34:20Over the next five years
00:34:21We're looking at opening a site every single year
00:34:23In bustling neighbourhood locations
00:34:26Such as Manchester, Newcastle or York
00:34:30On to the finances
00:34:32Now, projected start-up costs for Newcastle
00:34:34Coming at £137,000
00:34:36The model also relies on cheaper rent
00:34:39Than what would be in the city
00:34:40In a few moments I'm going to be showing you
00:34:42Our billboard
00:34:44In a few moments I'm going to be showing you
00:34:45Our billboard
00:34:46I sent my team away with a brief
00:34:48To create something engaging and fun
00:34:50To reflect the social and community aspects of the brand
00:34:58And now we're going to move on to the metaverse I've built
00:35:01To really demonstrate what we're all about
00:35:03So, welcome to Studio Build
00:35:05We're going to go into our cycle studio
00:35:07It's immersive, it's fun, it's got that nightclub feel
00:35:11And then we're going to come out of the cycle studio
00:35:13And head into Reformer
00:35:14As you can see it's got that small personal feel
00:35:16There's not loads of machines in there
00:35:18Reason for that is we capitalise on being small and personal
00:35:22And keeping that small community feel
00:35:24I'd like to say thank you very much for listening
00:35:26And I'd love to open the floor to any of your questions
00:35:28Hi, it's George Grooke here from F45
00:35:31My question is as you look to scale to multiple sites
00:35:34How do you look to make sure that you deliver the best in class
00:35:37With regards to your product delivery with your team?
00:35:39Thank you for your question
00:35:40Very important when you're scaling your business
00:35:42To make sure that service is consistent
00:35:44So it is pivotal that we get the staff training right
00:35:47To make sure that it is consistent across multiple sites
00:35:49Hi, Olivia Williams
00:35:51I'm the Chief Operations of Rumble Gym
00:35:56Coaches are integral to the success of great fitness facilities
00:36:01So how do you get your clients to be hooked on your concept
00:36:05And also ensure that they don't leave with the instructors?
00:36:10Yes, instructors are integral
00:36:12But I think the way I look after them
00:36:14And the way I empower them within the business
00:36:16I think it's a pretty safe bet that they will stay
00:36:19And the clients will also stay
00:36:20Great, thank you very much
00:36:22Hi there, I'm Sandy
00:36:24I'm the co-owner of Barry's here in the UK
00:36:26My question is
00:36:27When my brother and I brought Barry's to the UK
00:36:29We were quite lucky
00:36:30Because there was nothing else like it in the market
00:36:33You said it's a neighbourhood gym
00:36:35It's a boutique
00:36:36That's your USP
00:36:37Is it really that different?
00:36:38It is a very saturated market
00:36:40So it's almost like getting to know the customers on that personal level
00:36:44What's their favourite drink to have after class?
00:36:46So I think what really drives us home is inclusivity
00:36:49And a personal family feel
00:36:51Thanks, good luck
00:36:52Thank you all very much for listening
00:36:54And thank you for your questions
00:37:06I'm dripping
00:37:07Yes you're laughing
00:37:08Babe, babe
00:37:10You did amazing
00:37:12Thank you
00:37:15Scaling up the business
00:37:17I think is the important thing
00:37:18Our USP is obviously trying to be community based
00:37:21But if she is at the center of it, how does she replicate herself?
00:37:26Your team have to be amazing, and the bigger you grow, the harder that is.
00:37:29To put it politely, am I saying there's nothing new?
00:37:32I think there's definitely an opportunity in the north of England.
00:37:34The issue is going to be volume.
00:37:36I think she has four or five different types of fitness classes in that one unit.
00:37:39You become a jack-of-all-trades, and I think what they need to do
00:37:42is specialise in what they want to be good at, and then expand.
00:37:46Rachel herself, she knows her market, she knows her client, she knows her staff.
00:37:49I don't think you can go wrong with her.
00:37:53Pitch is over.
00:37:55So close to the end now, I've made it this far, I've worked extremely hard,
00:37:59I've put everything into this.
00:38:00I absolutely don't want to win this, and it would mean the absolute world to me.
00:38:04Today, the pitch, huge amounts of pressure.
00:38:06It's been a phenomenal journey, personally, unbelievable experience,
00:38:10and I really hope that I've done enough to win the Lord Sugar's investment.
00:38:15Tonight, nothing more the candidates can do.
00:38:18Tomorrow, the final showdown.
00:38:31You can go through to the boardroom now.
00:38:50Well, thank you, ex-candidates, for coming back and assisting in the grand final.
00:38:58I hope you had a good time and supported your old team-mates.
00:39:07So, let's start with Phil's team.
00:39:10So, tell me what happened.
00:39:12We wanted to demonstrate that the online side of the business, Pies by Post,
00:39:16had potential for growth, and also we created a gift pie pack,
00:39:19just a little demonstration, really, of what we would be able to do
00:39:23with investment and mentorship within the business.
00:39:26Right.
00:39:27So, who came up with the billboard?
00:39:30So, from the morning brief, Phil was really focusing on
00:39:34how the family side of the business is pies-related.
00:39:38He wants to make it to do with delivery to the door.
00:39:41We had Paul the pie man as the chef in the video,
00:39:43and Raj, obviously, being older, so...
00:39:47Thanks.
00:39:49Thanks, Paul Berg.
00:39:55She could be the mother and give that...
00:39:57Great!
00:39:58Just the lady of the house.
00:39:59Raj, you know I love you.
00:40:00Raj, you know I love you.
00:40:00Lady of the house, yeah.
00:40:02As Raj is the lady of the house.
00:40:04I heard you two were bickering a little bit in making this thing.
00:40:07You were like Basil and Sybil Fortin.
00:40:10Yeah, but no, honestly...
00:40:11Looks like it.
00:40:12I can see it now.
00:40:14Yeah.
00:40:15Anyway, you're, you know, in seven tasks, you were directing.
00:40:18So, have you gone from Scorsese to Pie Richie?
00:40:22Yeah, yeah, definitely.
00:40:24I watched the thing.
00:40:26The only thing I couldn't see was the pie.
00:40:28Yeah.
00:40:29It was, like, very small, yeah?
00:40:30That was something that I did mention,
00:40:32that the pie should be front and centre,
00:40:34but I think really what they did is they went away
00:40:35and they really tried to focus on just making sure
00:40:38the main messages were there rather than trying to be over-creative,
00:40:40which, in the past, has kind of come back to bite us a little bit.
00:40:44One thing I will say is they, all three of them,
00:40:46work really hard for you.
00:40:48Yeah.
00:40:48They really did want to produce something
00:40:50that you'd be proud of and you'd like.
00:40:52Yeah.
00:40:52I know that pies might not be so much of a thing for Verdi and Raj,
00:40:55and I knew that Paul would be able to visualise what this is
00:40:58and he would actually have a grasp of what this is,
00:41:00what this looks like and what this industry is about
00:41:01rather than kind of pie in the sky, as we might say.
00:41:04Raj didn't know much about pies
00:41:05and, thankfully, you didn't use her name,
00:41:07Fill My Pie.
00:41:08No.
00:41:09Did you suggest that?
00:41:11I didn't know it was rude.
00:41:13I didn't know...
00:41:14You don't want to be typing that in Google.
00:41:18You'd be arrested.
00:41:20Right, so we move on now to the branding side.
00:41:25Paul the dentist, what did you do?
00:41:27The fillings?
00:41:30Essentially, yeah, hello, sugar, but top quality.
00:41:33The hands are supposed to mean, I'm going to deliver it.
00:41:38Is that what it means?
00:41:38Yes.
00:41:38It looks like you're delivering Ed Sheeran's haircut.
00:41:43Fair enough.
00:41:45My problem with this, and I know that it's only a prototype, right?
00:41:49Is that, I mean, it's quite nice if they come into your shop
00:41:52and you pack it up nicely for them like this, right?
00:41:56But as a mail order thing,
00:41:58it could cost more in postage than the actual pies themselves.
00:42:02OK.
00:42:03Anyway, I have to say that I tasted the pies, right?
00:42:07They're excellent.
00:42:08They are very, very good.
00:42:10And that's the way you should go forward,
00:42:13is to keep that quality up, right?
00:42:16OK, good.
00:42:17Let's move on to Rachel.
00:42:20So, who done what?
00:42:22Tell me.
00:42:22So, I put Sam, Trey and Steve on the digital billboard team,
00:42:26mainly because Sam is a fitness instructor,
00:42:28and then Trey would be a great video director.
00:42:32I know he knows me well.
00:42:33In competition with you and Verdi.
00:42:35Yeah, me against you, Verdi.
00:42:37I saw your billboard.
00:42:39Basically, it was Sam.
00:42:41Sorry to say, you looked a bit like the 1980s Mr. Motivator
00:42:46kicking out there.
00:42:47Well, yeah.
00:42:48It's funny you should say that.
00:42:49I'm actually the mummy motivator in my business.
00:42:52So, it just added a bit of pop of colour.
00:42:55Right.
00:42:56And Steve, you look like Steve Schwarzenegger.
00:42:58Yeah.
00:42:59Punching away there.
00:43:00I'll take that, yeah.
00:43:01The bit I didn't like in the end was throwing in the towel.
00:43:05Oh, is this?
00:43:05That is an expression, isn't it?
00:43:07I've thrown the towel in, meaning I'm giving up.
00:43:09It was more a case, really, of had a good workout,
00:43:12throw the towel down, ready to start again.
00:43:14But we wanted to showcase a powerful woman kicking,
00:43:17because, of course, your demographic is, you know,
00:43:20professional women and high-earning women.
00:43:2170% of women, you think, is what the gyms are all about.
00:43:27It's just what I've personally experienced within my own studios.
00:43:30We do have main target market as two female groups.
00:43:33However, we do definitely welcome males,
00:43:35and we do continue to do that.
00:43:36We want so much of Trey's testosterone juice
00:43:39to 70% of women, will you?
00:43:40Let's face it.
00:43:42OK.
00:43:43Now, we then got the branding team, right,
00:43:46who's responsible for the logo.
00:43:49Is that right?
00:43:49Yeah, so that was...
00:43:50And the brand name is Studio Build.
00:43:54Yes, correct.
00:43:55I mean, you know, in the presentation,
00:43:58there was quite a few people that kind of said
00:44:00it sounded like a building or construction company,
00:44:03and you put the drop of water in the...
00:44:06The sweat drop, yeah.
00:44:07Yeah.
00:44:08Looked like a damp-coursing firm, you know?
00:44:11We wanted something that stood out,
00:44:13and we used the colour to do that,
00:44:14as well as the boldness of the text.
00:44:16But I think the metaverse was definitely where I excelled,
00:44:18rather than over the actual branding.
00:44:20It was good, you know,
00:44:21because you can give a...
00:44:22You know, you're explaining,
00:44:23you walk through all the different things that you do.
00:44:27Yeah.
00:44:27What's really great about Rachel as well,
00:44:29if she doesn't blow her own trumpet,
00:44:30and I think it just shows how good she is.
00:44:32I can literally see her creating a multi-multi-million pound gym
00:44:35that dominates the North.
00:44:37Really good.
00:44:37And she could supply some of your products in there.
00:44:40You could be...
00:44:41Oh, that's...
00:44:42Gym and tonic.
00:44:46How do you feel about your team?
00:44:48They supported you well?
00:44:49Extremely supportive the whole way through it.
00:44:52Right.
00:44:52And what about you, you lot, over here?
00:44:54Do you think he's going to make a take-over bid
00:44:56for your pie business one day?
00:44:58Hey, you never know,
00:44:59we might work together and I might make them for him.
00:45:01Yeah, OK.
00:45:02Yeah, they're a good pie.
00:45:03I can't... I can't lie.
00:45:05Good on you.
00:45:05There wasn't any left on our table, I can tell you.
00:45:08Did he win the...
00:45:09He won the awards, didn't he, for something, rather?
00:45:11Yeah, he won the pie awards, yeah.
00:45:12Yeah.
00:45:13Makes a change these days for an Arsenal fan
00:45:15to see a trophy.
00:45:17To see a trophy, but...
00:45:18Yeah.
00:45:19Well, candidates,
00:45:21thank you so much for coming back
00:45:23and giving me your time
00:45:25to assist in this final task.
00:45:28So I'm going to ask you now to leave
00:45:31and let me carry on with these two
00:45:33and see where we go from there.
00:45:34But thanks again
00:45:35and good luck to you all.
00:45:37Good luck to you guys.
00:45:38Cheers, guys.
00:45:40Good luck, guys.
00:45:42Good luck.
00:45:43Cheers.
00:45:44Cheers.
00:45:48Cheers.
00:45:49Well, as you can see,
00:45:50my decision, it's pies versus pies-lattice, I suppose,
00:45:57to use a pun.
00:45:58Do I choose a gym or pies
00:46:01to make people fitter or make people fatter?
00:46:04You know, I suppose that's what it boils down to.
00:46:07So, Rachel, I'll tell you what my problem is.
00:46:11I get what you're saying about your vision and your dream
00:46:15of a small boutique community gym
00:46:19but what I find difficult is
00:46:21how are you going to scale up that culture
00:46:23beyond two branches?
00:46:25I totally understand that
00:46:26and when I started my first branch,
00:46:28I had zero client base.
00:46:30I built it up organically
00:46:31and we've done the same in Harrogate
00:46:33and as we move forward with opening further branches,
00:46:35I'd go with the same ethos we've always gone with,
00:46:37having that open environment with my staff
00:46:39and making sure they are fully on board
00:46:41with what exactly our core values are.
00:46:42So what you're saying to me is
00:46:43is that in order to expand,
00:46:45you're going to train up
00:46:47key members of staff
00:46:49that are going to learn,
00:46:51they're going to become the friends
00:46:52of the customers, right?
00:46:54Absolutely, yes.
00:46:55And of course, we would have to hire more people
00:46:57at that level
00:46:58to make sure that we can continue that visitation.
00:47:02Okay.
00:47:02Gymnasiums and the growth in gymnasiums
00:47:05has really been the past,
00:47:06you know, 20 years really.
00:47:08I mean, it's out of my era
00:47:09but my children
00:47:11and now grandchildren
00:47:15do frequent gyms all the time
00:47:17and when I hear them mentioning
00:47:19Fred, Bill, Charlie,
00:47:21who's my trainer
00:47:22and they get very upset
00:47:24when Charlie now leaves
00:47:25and when he leaves,
00:47:27they go and follow him.
00:47:29How are you going to deal with that?
00:47:31Trainers are integral
00:47:32and they do build those relationships
00:47:33with clients.
00:47:3480% of my current staff
00:47:35have been with me
00:47:36since first opened.
00:47:37Don't have any staff turnover whatsoever.
00:47:40They stay with me.
00:47:41The only reason they've left...
00:47:42That's surprising.
00:47:42I've got to tell you.
00:47:43Quite honestly, that is the truth.
00:47:44No matter how well you feel
00:47:46you have a good relationship
00:47:48with certain staff,
00:47:49they let you down sometimes.
00:47:51They're either very, very loyal
00:47:53or they're only interested in themselves.
00:47:55And the truth is,
00:47:56as you scale up
00:47:57and you employ more people,
00:47:59the chances of them moving on
00:48:01get greater and greater.
00:48:02Of course,
00:48:03and I appreciate as I grow,
00:48:04turnover of staff will grow as well.
00:48:06That's just a natural part
00:48:07of having a business.
00:48:09Hmm.
00:48:11Phil, my view of your business
00:48:13is that you've got five shops.
00:48:15I think you need 50 shops.
00:48:17I think that's the way
00:48:18you should be targeting.
00:48:20But I've got to tell you right now,
00:48:22pause by post,
00:48:23I don't get it.
00:48:25It's going to deflect your attention away
00:48:27if you think you're going to build up
00:48:29an online business
00:48:30because it's not going to happen.
00:48:32My answer to that would be
00:48:33that when I took over my parents' bakery,
00:48:37everyone told me
00:48:37that it was a very stupid decision
00:48:39and very much like what you're saying
00:48:41is it's not possible.
00:48:42And in my head,
00:48:43I believed in my vision then
00:48:45and I still do believe
00:48:47in the vision of the online
00:48:49pies by post.
00:48:50That's bad.
00:48:50That's bad as far as I'm concerned.
00:48:52Even if it's just as a hedge
00:48:53to what we're currently doing.
00:48:55Yeah, but an entrepreneur,
00:48:56a person in charge of his business
00:48:58has got to concentrate
00:49:00on the thing that's going to make them
00:49:01the most amount of money, right?
00:49:03And if you distracted
00:49:04into this online stuff,
00:49:07I can tell you,
00:49:08you're going down the wrong path.
00:49:09I say this from experience,
00:49:12some bitter experience
00:49:13with some of my other companies
00:49:15where some of the managing directors
00:49:16of those companies
00:49:18have done that
00:49:20and have now realised
00:49:21the error of their way.
00:49:23And I do really appreciate
00:49:24your perspective on that
00:49:26and I take your sentiment
00:49:27about the profits,
00:49:28but for me,
00:49:30there's more to running a business
00:49:32than making profits
00:49:33I have a huge amount of money.
00:49:34Sorry, Phil.
00:49:35Not really.
00:49:36Sorry.
00:49:36That is a dangerous statement.
00:49:38Let's cut the crap.
00:49:39We're in business to make money.
00:49:41Well, I am anyway.
00:49:42Yeah, I appreciate that.
00:49:42And if you're not in business
00:49:43to make money,
00:49:44then you're going to be
00:49:45no good to me,
00:49:46that's for sure.
00:49:47I'll take on board
00:49:47what you're saying,
00:49:48but I am commercially driven.
00:49:49I understand
00:49:50that profits need to be made.
00:49:51Being able to sit here...
00:49:52But tell me,
00:49:52you've lost money this year.
00:49:54Yeah.
00:49:55We reacted too slow
00:49:56when it came to the inflation.
00:49:59The energy costs
00:50:00were extremely crippling.
00:50:01This is something, look...
00:50:02You need to put your prices up.
00:50:03The prices have been put up.
00:50:04We are moving in the right direction.
00:50:06OK, look,
00:50:07I'll tell you what I need to do now.
00:50:12Karen and Tim,
00:50:14I'd like to have a chat with you.
00:50:16If you don't mind,
00:50:17you two,
00:50:18perhaps you'd step outside
00:50:19and I'll call you back in later.
00:50:27Karen,
00:50:28what do you think of Rachel?
00:50:30Do you know,
00:50:30this business is her life
00:50:32and her passion for it
00:50:33really comes across.
00:50:35The issue really
00:50:36is just how expensive it is
00:50:37to open gyms
00:50:39and she'll burn through
00:50:40your investment
00:50:41pretty quickly.
00:50:42I think the thing with Rachel
00:50:44is that she's going
00:50:44into a great industry sector
00:50:46and she's a great advocate
00:50:47for her products and services.
00:50:48It's about the scalability of that.
00:50:51Can she systemise
00:50:52what she's done very well
00:50:53over two gyms
00:50:54over many, many more?
00:50:56So, Tim,
00:50:57what about Phil?
00:50:59I think the thing
00:51:00for his business
00:51:00is that you've given him
00:51:01clear indications
00:51:02of what he's going to need
00:51:02to grow this business.
00:51:03Will he accept that direction
00:51:05and put into place
00:51:07what you're thinking
00:51:07he needs to grow?
00:51:09He clearly has a good business
00:51:10and his product is excellent
00:51:12but he has to embrace
00:51:14new ways of doing things
00:51:15and you're going to have
00:51:15to be convinced
00:51:16that he's going to take
00:51:17your advice
00:51:17and make those tough decisions
00:51:19because sometimes you have
00:51:20to make tough decisions
00:51:21in business.
00:51:22That's how you survive.
00:51:23Hmm.
00:51:24Okay, so I'm going to call
00:51:25them back in
00:51:25and I'm going to decide
00:51:27which one of them
00:51:27is going to be
00:51:28my business partner.
00:51:32Could you send
00:51:33the two finalists
00:51:34in, please?
00:51:43Okay, now
00:51:44I'm going to put
00:51:45£250,000 investment
00:51:47with one of you.
00:51:49Now, I'm,
00:51:50to use a pun,
00:51:51I'm no sweetie pie.
00:51:53I expect
00:51:54to make money, right?
00:51:57Phil,
00:51:58you didn't make it clear
00:51:59to me
00:51:59how you're going
00:52:00to grow yourselves.
00:52:02Obviously,
00:52:03opening new shops
00:52:04would be
00:52:04the most obvious one
00:52:05and also,
00:52:07in-stores,
00:52:08getting our average
00:52:09spend up higher.
00:52:10It's not just pies
00:52:11that people come
00:52:12to the shop for.
00:52:12There's a huge amount
00:52:13more that we do
00:52:14in-store.
00:52:14We're looking to
00:52:15have new product development
00:52:16and diversify.
00:52:18I mean,
00:52:18you prepare to listen
00:52:20to me
00:52:21as your 50% partner.
00:52:23Yeah?
00:52:24Absolutely, yeah.
00:52:25No, I mean that
00:52:26because my advice
00:52:27to you
00:52:28is to tell you
00:52:28what not to do.
00:52:30Yeah.
00:52:31rather than
00:52:32what to do.
00:52:34It's learning
00:52:34from all the mistakes
00:52:36that I've made
00:52:37in the past 60 years.
00:52:39You couldn't buy that.
00:52:41You couldn't
00:52:42condense that.
00:52:43You couldn't get it
00:52:43in a book.
00:52:44You couldn't learn
00:52:45that at a university.
00:52:46Lord Sugar,
00:52:48I am coming here
00:52:49for a mentor
00:52:50like yourself.
00:52:51I'm not going to
00:52:52put myself
00:52:52in this process
00:52:53to start disagreeing
00:52:54with the advice
00:52:54you give me.
00:52:55You've obviously
00:52:56been there.
00:52:57You've done it.
00:52:57You've got the experience.
00:52:58So I want to put
00:52:59my point across
00:53:00in the boardroom
00:53:00in this situation
00:53:01but if we were
00:53:02business partners
00:53:02obviously I'll be
00:53:03looking for you
00:53:03to show me
00:53:04the things
00:53:04that I don't
00:53:05understand.
00:53:07Rachel,
00:53:09why should I
00:53:10invest in you
00:53:10because there's
00:53:11so many gyms
00:53:12around?
00:53:13Up north
00:53:13it genuinely
00:53:14is demand,
00:53:16not enough supply.
00:53:17When I first
00:53:18set up people
00:53:18thought I was
00:53:19bloody nuts.
00:53:20The people
00:53:20that thought
00:53:20I was nuts
00:53:21back then
00:53:21now believe
00:53:22it's amazing.
00:53:23But your ethos
00:53:24is small boutique
00:53:26and community
00:53:27gym.
00:53:28I get that
00:53:28and if you
00:53:29only had one
00:53:30gym I could
00:53:31see that working
00:53:31but how do you
00:53:33get that ethos
00:53:34across ten gyms?
00:53:35My business
00:53:36is profitable
00:53:37and I believe
00:53:37it will become
00:53:38more profitable
00:53:38as we scale up.
00:53:40I believe it
00:53:40will be a
00:53:40multi-million pound
00:53:41company by the
00:53:42time I've opened
00:53:42the actual amount
00:53:43of studios I
00:53:44want to open
00:53:44because I know
00:53:45they are profitable
00:53:46and I know
00:53:46the turnover
00:53:47that one small
00:53:47studio brings in.
00:53:49I bring £250,000
00:53:50and in a tiny site
00:53:52compared to a
00:53:53lot much bigger
00:53:53site than gym.
00:53:53You do that?
00:53:54Is that true?
00:53:54Is that a true figure?
00:53:55£250,000
00:53:55that tiny little
00:53:57unit in Leeds
00:53:57brings in
00:53:58which people
00:53:59thought I was
00:53:59crackers to do
00:54:00and I stand by it
00:54:01I was 23 years old.
00:54:02Lord Sugar
00:54:03where Rachel is
00:54:04in her current
00:54:05business
00:54:05there's a lot
00:54:06more work
00:54:07and a lot
00:54:07more time
00:54:08that it's going
00:54:08to take
00:54:08to be able
00:54:09to launch this.
00:54:10I believe
00:54:10that the work
00:54:10I've been doing
00:54:11over the last
00:54:1110-15 years
00:54:12has primed my
00:54:13business
00:54:13to a position
00:54:14where I can
00:54:15have investment
00:54:15and mentorship
00:54:16to take this
00:54:17thing further.
00:54:17We've built
00:54:18the model
00:54:18we've got a lot
00:54:22level.
00:54:22Lord Sugar
00:54:22can I just say
00:54:23if you are
00:54:24willing to invest
00:54:25in me
00:54:25I know you're
00:54:26not just investing
00:54:27in my business
00:54:27which is profitable
00:54:28you're also
00:54:28investing in myself.
00:54:30I remember
00:54:31watching this process
00:54:32when I was 17
00:54:33years old
00:54:33I had no idea
00:54:34what I was going
00:54:34to do with my life
00:54:35I just knew
00:54:35I wanted a business
00:54:36and I said
00:54:36one day I'll
00:54:37want to be in that
00:54:38final and I got
00:54:38myself there
00:54:39and that was
00:54:4010 years ago
00:54:40so I just want
00:54:42you to know
00:54:42that you are
00:54:42investing in me
00:54:43as a person
00:54:44I'm most driven
00:54:46enthusiastic
00:54:46and a lot of
00:54:48grit behind me.
00:54:48Okay so let me
00:54:50conclude here.
00:54:53This is a very
00:54:54tough decision
00:54:55I've got to say
00:54:57because I've got
00:54:58two very very
00:55:00credible people
00:55:01in front of me.
00:55:03I've got Rachel
00:55:04who claims
00:55:05she's making money
00:55:07and that she's
00:55:08going to make
00:55:08even more
00:55:09when she gets
00:55:10the second gym
00:55:11up and running
00:55:12but
00:55:14gyms are kind
00:55:15of like
00:55:15all due respect
00:55:16they're like
00:55:17to a penny.
00:55:20Specialist
00:55:20pious
00:55:21are not
00:55:23and it's a market
00:55:24I'm very
00:55:25interested in
00:55:27but how can
00:55:28I be interested
00:55:28in it
00:55:29if there's no
00:55:30kind of light
00:55:31at the end
00:55:31of the tunnel?
00:55:32There's a loss
00:55:33making business
00:55:34at the moment
00:55:35that you tell me
00:55:35is going to
00:55:36turn around
00:55:37and be okay
00:55:38and that's
00:55:39my dilemma
00:55:40you know.
00:55:46it's very very
00:55:47hard for me
00:55:51I'm having
00:55:52trouble here
00:55:54but my gut
00:55:55feeling is telling
00:55:56me that
00:55:59Rachel
00:56:02you're going to
00:56:03be my business
00:56:04partner.
00:56:05thank you very
00:56:06much Lord Sugar
00:56:07well done
00:56:07Rachel
00:56:07fully deserved
00:56:08well done

00:56:14down young lady

00:56:35and to come out

00:56:38dream

00:56:39old when I
00:56:40started my business

00:58:27candidates give
00:58:27everything to try to

00:59:54I love the cheesecake
00:59:55with the fig that
00:59:57looked like something
00:59:57from Stranger Things

01:00:00be on a Halloween
01:00:01Pinterest somewhere
01:00:02and also a new

01:00:25be possible
01:00:26please join me in
01:00:27saying a huge
01:00:27congratulations to
01:00:28this year's

01:00:51please stay behind
01:00:52at the end
01:00:53now here are a few
01:00:55things from the final
01:00:56that really caught my
01:00:57eye
01:00:58it was interesting to
01:00:59hear Lord Sugar's
01:01:00nickname this week
01:01:02the old royal naval
01:01:07Phil and Rachel
01:01:08made the final
01:01:09and I bet they had
01:01:10so much to talk about
01:01:11with the incredible
01:01:12journey they'd both
01:01:13been on
01:01:21Verdi had some strange
01:01:22questions about the
01:01:23designer's home life
01:01:25do you have a front
01:01:26of a house
01:01:29probably he does
01:01:31I imagine he does
01:01:31it was nice to hear
01:01:33Lord Sugar has the
01:01:34same crisis I have
01:01:35on a daily basis
01:01:36do I choose a gym
01:01:38or pies
01:01:43and those are the
01:01:44things which really
01:01:45caught my eye in
01:01:46The Apprentice the
01:01:47final
01:01:52so The Apprentice is
01:01:57over for now and
01:01:59Lord Sugar has chosen
01:02:00his business partner
01:02:01it's time to meet the
01:02:02candidate who came a
01:02:03close second
01:02:04it's very very hard
01:02:05for me
01:02:08I'm having trouble
01:02:10here
01:02:12but my gut feeling
01:02:13is telling me
01:02:14that
01:02:17Rachel
01:02:20you're going to be
01:02:21my business partner
01:02:24please welcome
01:02:26Phil Turner
01:02:41it's not often I get
01:02:44to say I'm the
01:02:45underdressed one
01:02:47I didn't get the
01:02:48memo
01:02:48I thought I was
01:02:49going to be the
01:02:49winner before I get
01:02:50dressed up
01:02:50oh Phil you look
01:02:52wonderful really really
01:02:53wonderful and it's
01:02:54great to see you
01:02:55pleasure to be here
01:02:56really really good to
01:02:57be here
01:02:57really excited
01:02:58a little bit
01:03:00disappointed I've
01:03:01not got a new
01:03:01business partner
01:03:01but honestly I can't
01:03:03think of a more
01:03:03deserving winner than
01:03:04Rachel she was
01:03:05absolutely fantastic
01:03:06through the process
01:03:06and I'm really really
01:03:07pleased for her
01:03:08oh that's great
01:03:08great grace from you
01:03:09there great grace
01:03:10in America they
01:03:11probably would have
01:03:11clapped at that
01:03:12not me
01:03:15everyone's like
01:03:15yeah I bet you
01:03:16feel like that
01:03:16don't you
01:03:17jealous
01:03:18you're jealous
01:03:18it's true I am
01:03:19I am
01:03:20right
01:03:21you're glad to have
01:03:21feelings
01:03:22and it looked like
01:03:23a very intense
01:03:24boardroom at the end
01:03:25there
01:03:25yeah I mean
01:03:25and don't mind me
01:03:27saying but you'd
01:03:27been in a few of
01:03:28them
01:03:28I think I've had
01:03:29about I think
01:03:30that was my 27th
01:03:31boardroom
01:03:31and I've had worse
01:03:33I'm not going to
01:03:33lie I think it's
01:03:35when he said to me
01:03:35cut the crap
01:03:36I realised we were
01:03:37down to business
01:03:37in the final
01:03:38boardroom
01:03:39so it was
01:03:40intense but it
01:03:41was nice to talk
01:03:42about something
01:03:43that I actually
01:03:43could get behind
01:03:44it was my business
01:03:45it was my passion
01:03:46like it's been in
01:03:47my family since
01:03:48my grandma Eva
01:03:49in 1933
01:03:50she started making
01:03:51her steak and
01:03:52kidney pie
01:03:53I took over
01:03:54my family's
01:03:54business about 15
01:03:55years ago
01:03:55with a kind
01:03:56of a vision
01:03:56to really realise
01:03:58its full potential
01:03:59and get it to the
01:04:00masses
01:04:00and I think
01:04:00coming onto the
01:04:01show and looking
01:04:02for Lord Sugar
01:04:02as a business
01:04:03partner was really
01:04:04just the next
01:04:05stage in that
01:04:05Karen Lord Sugar
01:04:06said it was a
01:04:07difficult decision
01:04:09because he had
01:04:09two credible
01:04:10people in front
01:04:11of him
01:04:11what do you think
01:04:12it came down
01:04:12to for him
01:04:14I think
01:04:15when you're
01:04:16thinking about
01:04:17investing in a
01:04:17business
01:04:18it's a lot
01:04:19more about
01:04:19the person
01:04:20who you think
01:04:21you can work
01:04:21with
01:04:21what you think
01:04:22is a good
01:04:22fit
01:04:23where you think
01:04:24you can help
01:04:25them
01:04:25where you think
01:04:26you can help
01:04:26them grow
01:04:26their business
01:04:27I think it was
01:04:28a really tough
01:04:28decision for him
01:04:29he liked the
01:04:30product
01:04:30he liked you
01:04:32but in the end
01:04:32it was a really
01:04:33fine margin
01:04:34so you should be
01:04:35really proud of
01:04:36how far you got
01:04:37in the process
01:04:38I think you learnt
01:04:38a lot
01:04:39and I think
01:04:40you'll go on
01:04:41to do great
01:04:41things
01:04:41thank you very
01:04:42much
01:04:42I really appreciate
01:04:43that
01:04:43Tim you were
01:04:48following still
01:04:49around for three
01:04:49months there
01:04:50with the tablet
01:04:51typing away
01:04:52did he impress
01:04:53you
01:04:53he really did
01:04:54I think
01:04:54you've got to
01:04:55understand
01:04:56for somebody
01:04:56to end up
01:04:57in the boardroom
01:04:57so many times
01:04:58but still have
01:04:59the resilience
01:04:59of the process
01:05:00to give 100%
01:05:01every single time
01:05:02and it's a
01:05:03testament I think
01:05:04to the other
01:05:05candidates
01:05:05they always spoke
01:05:06highly of him
01:05:07as an individual
01:05:08and what often
01:05:08people miss out
01:05:09is in order
01:05:10to get far
01:05:11in this process
01:05:11you have to have
01:05:12an eye on the prize
01:05:13you want to win
01:05:13you want to win
01:05:14the money
01:05:14but you always have
01:05:15to be a great
01:05:15leader of working
01:05:16amongst individuals
01:05:17and sometimes
01:05:18taking a step back
01:05:18to be a team
01:05:19member
01:05:19you did all of
01:05:20those
01:05:20you were a great
01:05:21candidate
01:05:21and you should be
01:05:22really proud
01:05:22of your efforts
01:05:23thank you I really
01:05:23appreciate that
01:05:23that means a lot
01:05:24thank you
01:05:26you're like me
01:05:27we watch it
01:05:28from the outside
01:05:29we don't know
01:05:29about all this
01:05:29insider stuff
01:05:30very nerve-wracking
01:05:31watching that final
01:05:32wasn't it
01:05:32so nerve-wracking
01:05:34really really scary
01:05:34can I be honest
01:05:35with you Phil
01:05:36big problem for you
01:05:36you're too thin
01:05:39for me to believe
01:05:39your pies are good
01:05:41I think that was
01:05:43your crucial error
01:05:44I get that a lot
01:05:44I don't know
01:05:46how to respond
01:05:47to that
01:05:47I mean you said
01:05:49you were doing
01:05:49all of this
01:05:50for your family
01:05:51and I know
01:05:51that they've been
01:05:52a big inspiration
01:05:53for you
01:05:53and we've got
01:05:54your wife Tree
01:05:55and your father Pip
01:05:56here tonight
01:05:56hello both of you
01:05:58nice to see you
01:05:59did you enjoy
01:06:00watching him
01:06:00in the process
01:06:01I loved it
01:06:02I've loved the
01:06:02whole experience
01:06:04I mean
01:06:04didn't love the fact
01:06:05that he went away
01:06:06for a few months
01:06:07but loved watching
01:06:08you on the telly
01:06:09so proud
01:06:10so proud
01:06:11so it was tough
01:06:12but you know
01:06:13we did calls
01:06:13and we did letters
01:06:14and it was
01:06:14it was actually
01:06:15quite nice to write
01:06:16a letter
01:06:17I'd never really
01:06:17written a letter
01:06:18before
01:06:18so we used to
01:06:18send letters
01:06:19to each other
01:06:19it's like a war
01:06:19isn't it
01:06:20yeah
01:06:21the letters
01:06:22I will keep forever
01:06:24like the kids
01:06:25wrote letters
01:06:25I wrote letters
01:06:26and he wrote the back
01:06:27and for me
01:06:28that was
01:06:29yeah the best
01:06:30Father Pip
01:06:31Phil said that
01:06:32you and his mum
01:06:32are his inspiration
01:06:33I mean you must be
01:06:34beyond proud of it
01:06:35I'm very proud
01:06:36immensely proud
01:06:37and from where he's
01:06:39to where he's taken
01:06:40the business
01:06:40it's unbelievable
01:06:42unbelievable
01:06:43and I'm very very
01:06:44proud of him
01:06:45give it up for
01:06:46Tree and Pip
01:06:46everyone
01:06:51well
01:06:53now he may have
01:06:54made it all the way
01:06:54to the final
01:06:55but let's rewind
01:06:56and see how Phil
01:06:57chose to impress
01:06:58Lord Sugar
01:06:58at the very start
01:06:59of his journey
01:07:00with this exclusive
01:07:01clip from his
01:07:02original
01:07:03audition tape
01:07:11my party trick
01:07:11is I can make
01:07:12a recorder
01:07:12out of a carrot
01:07:14you've got a carrot there
01:07:15actually
01:07:15oh let's have it then
01:07:19it'll take me about an hour
01:07:20I'll probably do it
01:07:21before everyone arrives
01:07:29I've got to come clean
01:07:30I've got a confession
01:07:31everyone
01:07:32before I went into
01:07:33the interview
01:07:34I was googling party tricks
01:07:35and I said to them
01:07:37I could play a recorder
01:07:37with a carrot
01:07:38and I was thinking
01:07:39please don't say
01:07:40you've got a carrot
01:07:40and he said
01:07:40you've got a carrot
01:07:41and I was like
01:07:41oh no
01:07:43so don't get a carrot
01:07:44out because I can't
01:07:44play a recorder
01:07:45oh fine
01:07:46it was a big lie
01:07:46it was a big lie
01:07:47do you know what
01:07:48I feel a lot happy
01:07:49and I've come out
01:07:49well we like to think
01:07:50of ourselves
01:07:51as a sort of
01:07:51spiritual experience
01:07:54now I want to talk
01:07:55about the pitch
01:07:56that was very intense
01:07:57wasn't it
01:07:57going in there
01:07:58you had your lectern
01:07:59and your slideshow
01:08:00pitching was one thing
01:08:02I've never done
01:08:02in my business
01:08:03all of my business
01:08:04is straight to our
01:08:06consumer
01:08:06so I'm happy to stand
01:08:07there and talk to
01:08:08customers and serve
01:08:08customers
01:08:09but I've never done
01:08:10a professional pitch
01:08:11and I've always avoided
01:08:12it
01:08:12that pitch was
01:08:14absolutely petrifying
01:08:15for me
01:08:15there was so much
01:08:16pressure on that pitch
01:08:17and to be able
01:08:18to do it as well
01:08:19as I did it
01:08:19I was so proud
01:08:20of myself
01:08:20and it was easily
01:08:21the highlight
01:08:22of the whole process
01:08:23for me
01:08:23oh really
01:08:24I was actually
01:08:25really proud
01:08:26of myself for once
01:08:26you should be
01:08:27well I thought
01:08:28you did very
01:08:28very well at it
01:08:29thank you
01:08:29it's amazing
01:08:30how this process
01:08:31gives you the confidence
01:08:33to try new things
01:08:34things you never knew
01:08:36you were good at
01:08:37you actually realise
01:08:38I can do this
01:08:40and that builds
01:08:40your confidence
01:08:41and every time
01:08:42the tasks get
01:08:42more complex
01:08:43more complicated
01:08:44you're testing yourself
01:08:46all the time
01:08:46right up to that
01:08:47pinnacle of that final
01:08:51and you've found
01:08:52that strength
01:08:52and that confidence
01:08:53through the process
01:08:54you really did grow
01:08:55and I think you should
01:08:56be really proud
01:08:56do you think Phil
01:08:57missed a trick
01:08:58for not calling the
01:08:59business as
01:08:59as Raj suggested it
01:09:01fill my pie
01:09:03fill my pie
01:09:04is actually my drug name
01:09:10I remember when Raj
01:09:10said that I just
01:09:11looked at Karen
01:09:12and Karen looked at me
01:09:13and she just sort of
01:09:13rolled her eyes
01:09:14and I thought
01:09:15I'm not going to be rude
01:09:16to Raj
01:09:17but we're just going to
01:09:17let that one go
01:09:19have you registered

01:10:20desperate to sell

01:10:33do want to get across
01:10:34is how much I care
01:10:35about my business
01:10:36and how much I care
01:10:37about making my
01:10:38family proud
01:10:38and inspiring my
01:10:39children
01:10:41give it up one more
01:10:41time for the fabulous
01:10:42fabulous filter
01:10:46have a seat
01:10:54a lot of money
01:10:55goes into that
01:11:06it's been 12 tough
01:11:07weeks for our candidates
01:11:08and of course only one
01:11:09went the distance
01:11:10so let's take a look
01:11:11at the life-changing
01:11:12moment when Lord Sugar
01:11:14chose his new business
01:11:16partner
01:11:17it's very very hard
01:11:18it's very very hard
01:11:18for me
01:11:21I'm having trouble
01:11:22here
01:11:25but my gut feeling
01:11:26is telling me
01:11:27that
01:11:30Rachel
01:11:33you're going to be
01:11:33my business partner
01:11:35thank you very much
01:11:36Lord Sugar
01:11:37well done Rachel
01:11:38well done
01:11:38thank you Phil
01:11:43please welcome the winner
01:11:45of the apprentice
01:11:46series 18
01:11:47and Lord Sugar's
01:11:48new business partner
01:11:49Rachel Wolford
01:11:53Rachel
01:11:56how are you
01:11:59you're looking
01:12:00incredible
01:12:00come sit
01:12:01come
01:12:01go that way
01:12:08oh Rachel
01:12:10hello
01:12:10Rachel
01:12:11Rachel
01:12:11I'm so pleased to see you
01:12:12congratulations
01:12:13you are the winner
01:12:14you're the winner
01:12:15of the apprentice
01:12:15series 18
01:12:16I am
01:12:17has that sunk it
01:12:17not just yet
01:12:19it's a little bit
01:12:20overwhelming
01:12:21and I can't quite
01:12:22believe it
01:12:22especially after
01:12:24watching the process
01:12:25for all the years
01:12:26and now I'm sat
01:12:27as the winner
01:12:27it's all just
01:12:28very strange
01:12:29but it's the most
01:12:30amazing feeling as well
01:12:30well you've been amazing
01:12:32during the whole process
01:12:32I have to say
01:12:33thank you
01:12:34and you said that
01:12:34watching the apprentice
01:12:35as a 17 year old
01:12:36was what inspired you
01:12:37to go into business
01:12:39what would you say
01:12:40to that 17 year old
01:12:41now
01:12:41have a little bit
01:12:42more belief in yourself
01:12:43for sure
01:12:44I think
01:12:45I doubted myself a lot
01:12:47like most 17 year olds do
01:12:48but I think
01:12:48you know
01:12:49I was at school
01:12:50studying my A levels
01:12:50and I definitely
01:12:51wanted a business
01:12:52that's all I knew
01:12:52I wanted
01:12:53and then I remember
01:12:54watching the final
01:12:55it was the year
01:12:56Louisa and Leah
01:12:57were in the final
01:12:58and I remember thinking
01:12:59I just want to be
01:13:00like those girls
01:13:00and then
01:13:01it was the most
01:13:02bizarre feeling
01:13:03being in the final
01:13:03was Phil a worthy
01:13:05opponent to go up against
01:13:06absolutely
01:13:07I think
01:13:08a few people said to me
01:13:09did you think
01:13:10you had it in the bag
01:13:10and I absolutely
01:13:11did not think that
01:13:12I think being up
01:13:13against someone like Phil
01:13:14who you know
01:13:15the public sees so much
01:13:16which is what they see
01:13:17on the show
01:13:17but I also know
01:13:18what he's done
01:13:19outside of the process
01:13:20which is build
01:13:21an incredible business
01:13:22so I think
01:13:24when you're up against
01:13:24someone like that
01:13:25it is very nerve wracking
01:13:26you just don't know
01:13:27who Lord Sugar's
01:13:28going to choose
01:13:29Trey said
01:13:29that you don't
01:13:30blow your own trumpet
01:13:31enough
01:13:31was it difficult
01:13:32trying to big yourself up
01:13:33I think it is really
01:13:34important
01:13:35especially as a woman
01:13:36in business
01:13:36to speak up
01:13:38and make sure you're heard
01:13:39I think
01:13:39I've been brought up
01:13:40to be very modest
01:13:42by my parents
01:13:42and keep your feet
01:13:43on the ground
01:13:44and that's something
01:13:44I will still continue
01:13:46to do
01:13:46but I think
01:13:47now it's just about
01:13:47maybe making sure
01:13:48that I do
01:13:50show that belief
01:13:51in myself
01:13:51a little bit more
01:13:52confidence is not
01:13:54about what you have
01:13:55or haven't achieved
01:13:56in your life
01:13:57it's about one thing
01:13:58knowing that you
01:13:59back yourself
01:14:00when things are
01:14:01getting tough
01:14:02that you believe
01:14:03in yourself
01:14:04to turn things around
01:14:05and your attitude
01:14:06throughout this whole
01:14:07process
01:14:08your resilience
01:14:08your determination
01:14:09your professionalism
01:14:11the way you
01:14:12conducted yourself
01:14:13that's why you won
01:14:15that's why you
01:14:16were so investable
01:14:17you
01:14:17you as a person
01:14:18you've had an
01:14:19incredible experience
01:14:21and it's been a real
01:14:21pleasure to have
01:14:22to work with you
01:14:22thank you
01:14:23thank you
01:14:29well now it's time
01:14:30to welcome
01:14:31Rachel's new
01:14:32business partner
01:14:32live from Florida
01:14:34it's Lord Sugar
01:14:35oh my goodness
01:14:44Tom
01:14:44Tom
01:14:45can I take
01:14:46this opportunity
01:14:47of saying
01:14:48to you
01:14:49I think
01:14:50you've done
01:14:50an excellent
01:14:51job
01:14:52on hosting
01:14:53you're fired
01:14:55through the
01:14:56whole of the
01:14:56series
01:14:56and it's been
01:14:57an excellent
01:14:58performance
01:14:59so thank you
01:15:00very much
01:15:05it's not about me
01:15:10it does sound like
01:15:12he's about to fire you
01:15:13though
01:15:14but
01:15:15regret
01:15:20now you've got a brand new business partner Lord Sugar
01:15:23what made you go for Rachel
01:15:25what made you go for Rachel
01:15:26well as Karen mentioned
01:15:27she's been resilient throughout the whole of the process
01:15:31she's very determined
01:15:32very focused
01:15:34and that's the kind of ingredient that you need for a great business partner
01:15:40it's a crowded market
01:15:41it's a crowded market isn't it the fitness market what made you believe that Rachel could cut through
01:15:45well the fact is that she's up there in a small gym that she started with and has already taken
01:15:54250,000 pounds out of one small gym
01:15:57it's quite a remarkable achievement so if she can duplicate that into some more gyms across the northern part of
01:16:07England it's going to be good
01:16:09and of course this is your second year of working in the fitness environment isn't it
01:16:14sort of with Marnie and her gyms last year have you got the fitness bug
01:16:18I haven't got the fitness bug I mean I do cycle three times a week but I find
01:16:24and I say this in the nicest possible way being stuck inside a gym totally boring
01:16:32not a studio
01:16:33not a studio
01:16:34I was going to say well this is perfect
01:16:37and the thing is I can't take washing the hands washing everything else that you touch
01:16:43and all that so anyway
01:16:46so it sounds like you've gone to some filthy gyms basically
01:16:48but you need to go to a nice gym like Rachel's one
01:16:52yeah
01:16:54and I know your family are here let's say hello to them
01:16:57we've got your partner Ben and your friend Aileen is that right
01:17:01that's correct Ben Aileen where are you where are you oh hi hi everyone
01:17:07Ben Rachel sat here as the winner do you have a doubt that she would make it
01:17:10from the second she went to the interview I knew she'd win it yeah she's relentless absolutely
01:17:16relentless with everything
01:17:26literally from from morning till night it's it's all about business sometimes he doesn't get a look in
01:17:33it's it's it's it's not studio I never have I think she's hired me today
01:17:44Aileen are you going to join are you going to join Rachel's new gym
01:17:47I uh yeah I am already a member she was one of my first clients actually
01:17:51your ambition is to take it nationwide can you see that happening yeah of course if Rachel wants to definitely
01:17:55well thank you very much Ben and Aileen thank you very much for joining us
01:18:07now Lord Sugar Rachel may have made it all the way to the final and become your business partner
01:18:11but I wonder if that would still be the case if you'd seen her original audition tape
01:18:16oh oh you're gonna love it
01:18:23I describe myself as fun bubbly business minded commercially minded and compassionate very sociable
01:18:32and a really great fun individual
01:18:36like so fun
01:19:02I'd like to talk a bit about what we saw in in our final episode there and the pitch itself
01:19:08now you seem quite emotional when you went into that was it bringing up a lot of feelings for you
01:19:12yeah I think going back to the self-belief
01:19:15and the lack of it I sometimes have in myself that kind of setting and I couldn't quite believe that
01:19:20I was there
01:19:20and it wasn't the fact I was nervous to speak in front of a lot of people I think that
01:19:24actually doesn't frighten me too much
01:19:26it was more the fact in that crowd of people there were people who I've looked up to
01:19:30yeah so obviously Lord Sugar Karen and Tim but then I had industry professionals who like six years ago
01:19:36I was going to look to them to see what they were up to
01:19:39what can I bring up north and then all of a sudden they're in the crowd asking me about my
01:19:43business
01:19:43I'm thinking how has how has this happened
01:19:46I was having your fellow candidates back to help you
01:19:49I was the best
01:19:50yes you could see my face as soon as they walked in I was like hello
01:19:53yeah and I've gone from there was five of us in there and then I was by myself when Flo
01:19:58left after the interviews
01:19:59so when they came back I was like welcome back
01:20:01I was so pleased to see their faces
01:20:04you go on to a process like this and I think a lot of people think it's going to be
01:20:08quite dog eats dog
01:20:09which don't get me wrong you know you have to fight for your place in this process
01:20:11but I couldn't have done it with more supportive people around me
01:20:14they were just beyond respectful towards me and I've made some amazing friends through it as well
01:20:20that's lovely
01:20:25Tim I mean you can relate to how Rachel must be feeling because you won The Apprentice as well
01:20:31are you excited for her for the journey she's got ahead
01:20:33I can't wait to see what she creates with both her own energy in terms of the experience she's already
01:20:39had
01:20:39but now with an amazing business partner in the injection of cash
01:20:42and given that you've got all the previous candidates supporting you
01:20:46Lord Sugar talking about how he's going to give you the mentorship and go forward
01:20:49I'm really excited to see what your gym creates
01:20:52and the amazing people who come through and tell the testimony of what you've helped them to do
01:20:56in terms of spying their fitness journeys as well
01:20:57Thank you Tim
01:20:58Karen I mean Rachel did a very strong pitch there didn't she?
01:21:01That pitch is really just for Lord Sugar
01:21:04it is not for the experts it's not for the crowd
01:21:07he wants to hear how you're pitching your business and he wants to know what the experts think about it
01:21:13do they buy into you do they think it's a good idea do they think you've got the drive
01:21:17so what you're doing is you're doing it for him to him he's your audience but actually there's a couple
01:21:23hundred other people there as well
01:21:25and that can put you off
01:21:26Kiri you've been in some pressurised situations you know gigs can be tough sometimes
01:21:31you've presented to some pretty awkward crowds
01:21:33it's true I've done a screw fix Christmas party Tom
01:21:40I would rather do a screw fix Christmas party any day than face the experts
01:21:46Linda looking over her glasses going it's not a business is it?
01:21:51You all did brilliantly it's such a brutal part of the process
01:21:55Absolutely
01:21:55and you were amazing at brushing yourself off and going back in again I was so impressed with you then
01:22:00Thank you
01:22:01Lord Sugar tell us what's the literal next step for your partnership with Rachel
01:22:05what are you going to do first thing
01:22:07I'm obviously going to inject the money into the business
01:22:10but really she's the one and I say this on day one
01:22:14look I'm going to do any work me personally I'm not going to do any work
01:22:19you the winner is going to do the work okay
