Transcript
00:00Good morning and welcome to your latest Met Office weather update.
00:03It's an unsettled start to the week ahead but there are changes in store as we move
00:08through the course of the week.
00:10We finally start to say goodbye to areas of low pressure as we head towards Wednesday
00:15and beyond and that's all down to this area of high pressure which will begin to build
00:19in from the near continent, especially as we move into Thursday and Friday and that
00:24will also allow us to start to drag in some warmer air from Spain and France, especially
00:29across England and Wales where we'll probably see the sunniest of the conditions by Friday.
00:33For Scotland and Northern Ireland we've just got to keep an eye on weather fronts out in
00:37the Atlantic.
00:38They may well just try to move in from time to time, especially as we move into the next
00:44weekend.
00:45Back to here and now, it's a fairly unsettled start to the new week as I mentioned.
00:50There is some sunshine around, especially first thing this morning across eastern England
00:54but come the afternoon, probably up towards north-western Scotland is where we see some
00:59of the best of the driest and brightest weather.
01:01But most of this really is going to be a day of sunshine and scattered showers and some of
01:06these showers could potentially be on the heavy side, you could even hear the odd rumble
01:09of thunder.
01:10And then later on into the afternoon, some thicker cloud arriving into parts of Northern
01:14Ireland, Wales and south-west England with rain just knocking on the doorsteps as we
01:18start the commute home.
01:21Temperatures today still a little bit down compared to where they should be for the time
01:25of year, but in any drier and brighter moments down towards the far south-east we could just
01:29see highs here reaching 17 or possibly 18 degrees.
01:34Into the evening hours, the showers generally begin to fade away after dark, but the band of
01:39rain down towards the south-west will quickly move in across many parts of the country overnight.
01:44Accompanied by some fairly blustery winds, especially across the coast and over the hills.
01:49But with the cloud and rain around, it's going to be a much milder night than what we've
01:53generally been used to lately, with down across the south potentially staying in double figures
01:58as we start Tuesday morning.
02:00But all in all, Tuesday is going to be a bit of a miserable one, with this band of rain
02:04continuing to spread its way north-eastwards.
02:06Maybe some early brightness across the very far north-east of Scotland, but for most of us
02:11a fairly miserable day, with that rain being replaced by frequent blustery showers into
02:16the afternoon.
02:17And again, some of these showers could potentially be on the heavy side.
02:21Temperatures on Tuesday may be up a degree compared to today, but still a little bit disappointing
02:28for mid-May.
02:29In fact, the breeze probably not feeling too wonderful out there, especially if you're caught
02:35in the showers.
02:36But then a look ahead towards the west of the week, and it will start to turn dry.
02:42It's a bit of a slow process, probably Thursday and Friday is when we start to see the best
02:46of the weather this week.
02:48So an increasingly sunny too, especially across England and Wales, and that will start to lift
02:52the temperatures by Friday.
02:54We could potentially be up into the mid-20s across parts of England and Wales.
02:59But we'll keep you up to date with this over the next couple of days.
03:02But from me for now, take care, and I'll see you again soon.
