26 March - National Morning Forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning which is frosty outside.
00:05We're seeing some slippery surfaces with patchy ice.
00:09Now overnight winds have slowly eased away from the northeast of Scotland.
00:13It's cold though with that frost before cloud rolls in through the day across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
00:18Some outbreaks of rain and then we return to a rash of showers through Friday,
00:24particularly towards the north where it will be blustery.
00:26And that's not the end of the story. More wet weather to come towards the end of the weekend.
00:31For more details of that, check out our 10-day trend on YouTube.
00:35For the time being, if you are stepping out, the wind's still strong across Shetland as well as Orkney,
00:40clipping the northeast of Aberdeenshire.
00:42You can see this fairly widespread frost.
00:44Lowest temperatures last night were around minus 5 degrees Celsius.
00:48And we are seeing some showers running in with that wind and their wintry again.
00:52So some accumulations over higher ground.
00:55A few showers to start the day across Northern Ireland, but the cloud already is thickening here.
01:01We're hanging on to some sunshine across more eastern areas to start the day.
01:05And certainly that's how we begin much of England and Wales through this morning.
01:09Some fine weather, a cold start further south.
01:13It's a rural frost.
01:14One or two showers could clip Norfolk through the first part of the morning
01:17as that wind remains strong along that eastern strip.
01:20And here's that frost just lifting from the ground as the sun gets to work.
01:25So for many through the morning, it would be bright with sunny spells.
01:29Yes, most places also dry.
01:31The exception, as I said, will be Northern Ireland, where we will see some patchy, sherry rain,
01:36and the west of Scotland as well.
01:39Inland across Scotland, you'll see some fine weather, if not some sunshine still cold along this east coast
01:45after a frosty start elsewhere.
01:47But the cloud will thicken all the while.
01:50So around lunchtime, this is how it looks.
01:52You can see the rain covering much of the central belt,
01:54pushing down towards the Isle of Man as well as Cumbria,
01:58and clipping the far north-west of Wales as well, so Anglesey as well as Gwynedd.
02:03Northern Ireland stays under the cloud and that rain just coming and going,
02:07but we hang on to some brighter weather anywhere from south Yorkshire, southwards and eastwards,
02:13even the eastern side of Wales, seeing some fine weather until later on in the day.
02:18So temperatures through the afternoon come in probably around seven or eight across Scotland,
02:23nine for Northern Ireland,
02:24and towards more southern areas of England and Wales in shelter,
02:29possibly up to around 10, 11 degrees Celsius.
02:33Still rather breezy along this eastern strip though.
02:36And notice this weather front here, there is a back edge,
02:39and associated with the back edge of that rain,
02:42we'll find those winds pick up,
02:44and you'll notice that as we head through the evening and overnight.
02:48So let's pick up on some details if you're heading out through Thursday evening.
02:52First of all, we hang on to some drier weather across more central and eastern areas until much later.
02:58In fact, the southeast until tomorrow.
03:00The cloud though rolls in with some outbreaks of rain.
03:04The rain becomes persistent across western Scotland and Northern Ireland through the night
03:08and into the early hours of Friday morning before it gradually clears.
03:12So as we head into dawn on Friday, this is where the wet weather will be.
03:18So it's southern Scotland, still the Isle of Man.
03:21It's cleared mostly Northern Ireland, much of Wales and Northern England, the west country.
03:27The cloud remains across much of the north there,
03:30away from the far north of Scotland and the west,
03:32where you'll see those showers move in with a brisk breeze.
03:36And cloudy start to the day across more central and eastern areas.
03:40But it is a chilly one, even with a touch of frost for, say, Lincolnshire, as well as Norfolk and
03:46Suffolk.
03:47So through tomorrow morning, this area of cloud and rain with some brisk winds
03:52will continue to make its passage southeastwards.
03:56Brighter skies for Scotland and Northern Ireland,
03:59but those showers never too far away
04:01and they'll rattle across the country as those winds pick up.
04:05Here's that rain then pushing in towards this southeast through the day
04:09and it's rather windy as we enter the afternoon
04:12as temperatures arrive around 12 or 13 degrees Celsius.
04:16Towards the north, yes, it's going to feel cold in the wind.
04:19But for more details of our weekend weather and beyond,
04:22check out our 10-day trend this week.
04:25It's with Annie and I'll see you later.
