00:00There was a blockbuster NFL trade over the weekend.
00:02That was the New York Giants got the number 10 pick from the Cincinnati Bengals
00:08in exchange for Dexter Lawrence II.
00:11So obviously a big shakeup there in the top 10 right in front of the Miami Dolphins.
00:17But I was a little taken aback by it.
00:20I was like, there must be a lot of pressure in Cincy to just feel like they got to do
00:26something this year
00:27just because it just feels like a very strong for a disgruntled defensive lineman
00:33who is awesome, but they haven't wanted to pay their own guys.
00:36So I was just a little taken aback by they gave a what for him.
00:40But here's the number 10.
00:43And when I tell you like football becomes more cyclical,
00:49what makes a good edge rusher is pressure up the middle.
00:54And I think a lot of times we just think that the outside guys are going to get there
00:59and the quarterback steps up, they don't get the sack.
01:03And so if you can get pressure up the middle with a D tackle,
01:09you can do more damage that way.
01:11And I think a lot of the league is starting to feel that way about defensive linemen.
01:19And yeah, you need a guy to make sacks, but it's more important to get that pressure up the middle
01:24to force it into those guys.
01:26It's a big pay though.
01:27Like reading some of the background on it,
01:29like most of the offers they were getting were like seconds and late firsts,
01:32and they just come in like over the top with this top 10 big.
01:35You're like, sometimes there's got to be like one of those things where you're like,
01:38you're offering what?
01:40So you have to say yes.
01:41I mean, they were probably going to head towards a divorce anyway
01:43because Lawrence didn't want to be there anymore.
01:45He was miserable.
01:46He obviously gets a big fat paycheck, but I was, whoa, I was just, it was,
01:52it was a, it was a lot of one.
01:54But when you think about it, like if you're in that Bengal organization
02:01and your defense has been terrible, I mean, absolutely terrible to the point
02:08where, you know, your quarterback doesn't have a chance to win games
02:13because you're giving up points at such a high rate.
02:17There's two ways I would have gone here if I'm Cincinnati.
02:21You can do that to bolster your, your defense,
02:27but there's a pretty good crop of offensive linemen that you maybe could have protected
02:32your guy that's been getting killed for the last three years.
02:35Sure.
02:36Yeah.
02:37So I, it, it, I understand why they did it, but you got a, a, a, a crown jewel
02:45on the other side playing quarterback.
02:47What are you doing to help, you know, get his career going and, and not be hurt every year?
02:56Well, it's interesting because for the dolphins, obviously it kind of shakes up what's in front
03:00of them because you would have thought that that's exactly where, since he's going to go,
03:03they're either going to go D line or O line in the draft.
03:07So giants, I mean, maybe they still go interior offensive lineman, but you know,
03:12people are saying cornerback wide receiver again.
03:16So, you know, do you think that kind of shakes some things up on what might be available
03:19for Miami there at 11?
03:21And that's why you got to play the draft like, like to, to, we have all these conversations
03:28over the previous months about what they need and who they're going to have access to.
03:35And the fact of the matter is you really don't know.
03:38Cause things like this happen and now it throws it off a little bit.
03:42So you kind of have to have a plan a plan B.
03:47Okay.
03:47What do we want to get out of this, you know, kind of mentality, whether it's an offensive
03:55lineman, a weapon, um, uh, a cornerback and, and you might have access to all of those players.
04:05Um, do you then take the best, you know, the, the, the best prospect and regardless of, you
04:13know, you know, you got to fill a lot of holes, but I would just like to get a really
04:18good
04:18player, a really good prospect at one of those positions.
04:21So you really don't know what's going to be available at 11, especially now that the
04:26giants have two picks, you know, they might trade back.
04:30They might do some other stuff.
04:31So I would be pretty crazy if they would trade back.
04:36Like if like, that's the best you're going to get for the guy, allow you have two top
04:3910 bigs.
04:40I'd be pretty surprised if they traded back, which it could put the dolphins in the spot
04:45where somebody who wanted to move up would be like, Oh, well, I guess the highest we're
04:48going to go is the dolphins.
04:49Like that's right.
04:50That, that I do think it throws a wrinkle into things for Miami.
04:54It does.
04:55It does.
04:55And it makes it like for all these people with these mock drafts, this makes it even
05:02more confusing.
05:03Now that you have one team that can, you know, kind of slow, slow play a certain position
05:12or, or, or pick somebody that, you know, they might not have had access to at 10.
05:20So, you know, it'll change everything.
05:22Six, six teams have multiple picks.
05:25Six, six teams.
05:26So it's dolphins, jets, giants, Cowboys, chiefs, Browns, all, all guys that have traded, you
05:34know, valuable pieces during the course of the last year or two, something, you know,
05:42but, but keep in mind, they're giving up quality players that wasn't helping them win.
05:47Yeah.
05:48And especially, I mean, he was disgruntled as hell.
05:49He want to get the hell out of there.
05:51I mean, yeah.
05:53Like, could you imagine being him and could you imagine being him?
05:57And they say, Hey man, why we ain't getting the sacks?
06:00I'm killing it up front.
06:02I'm getting double team 70% of the time.
06:05Yeah.
06:06That's what I'm saying.
06:06That's also, that's not his thing either.
06:08Like he's that's, that's what he does.
06:10And they have a gazillion edges on that team.
06:12Anyway, we'll get the sex, you know?
06:13So I don't know, but it was a, it was a, it was an interesting one for sure.
