12 April - National afternoon forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, April showers is the name of the game over the next 24 hours or so.
00:05Low pressure still dominating the weather pattern at the moment.
00:09Sat to the north of the UK bringing brisk winds, frequent blustery showers,
00:12though the winds do ease as we move through into Monday,
00:15but further showers possible ahead of the next weather system moving in for later on Tuesday.
00:21So it is staying changeable over the next few days.
00:24If we look at the bigger picture from the past 24 hours
00:27and we can see plenty of showers across the whole of the UK
00:30as the low pressure system swirls around close to us.
00:34But there has been some sunshine in between and there will be today as well.
00:38So out there will be a day of sunny spells and showers.
00:40Showers will be heavy at times, the risk of hail like we've seen over the last few days,
00:45some thunder as well, but in between there will be some sunny spells.
00:48Into the afternoon the showers may band into some longer spells of rain.
00:52So if you're between these systems you may find that it stays dry for some time
00:56with sunny spells and the winds will ease a little over England and Wales as well.
01:01So those showers just becoming a little less blustery,
01:04but remaining blustery for Northern Ireland and particularly Northern Scotland
01:07and some of the showers here falling as snow over the higher ground.
01:11Here with the strength of the wind it will feel rather chilly.
01:14Maximum temperatures 10, 11 Celsius.
01:16In any sheltered spots across England and Wales we could see highs around 14 or 15 degrees,
01:21particularly towards South East England and the winds falling a little lighter here.
01:25But if you are stuck under one of these bands of rain it may mean that it feels like it's
01:30raining
01:30for quite some time as we move into the evening time.
01:33But then later on and as we head overnight we'll see showers becoming more confined to
01:38coastal stretches and clearer skies for many, particularly inland.
01:42And with winds generally falling much lighter than recent nights it will turn cold.
01:47Towns and cities will fall to mid to low single figures in the countryside, minus two possible in places.
01:53So it does mean a frost to greet us on Monday morning.
01:57Tender plants might need covering, but it does mean plenty of sunshine to start the day away from the coast
02:02where those showers will already begin.
02:05And then as we move through the day we'll see the shower clouds bubble up once more.
02:09The wind's generally lighter compared to recent days, so those showers will be slower moving,
02:13but they will still be heavy at times too, the risk of some hail and thunder and still falling as
02:19snow over the Scottish mountains.
02:21So another day of April showers.
02:24And temperatures very similar once more, 9 to 11 degrees across parts of Scotland,
02:29down to around 13 to 15 degrees across parts of South East England, for example.
02:34Those showers once again should fade away as we move into Monday evening time,
02:39allowing those clear skies to dominate overnight, and that will lead us to another chilly start on Tuesday.
02:47But it does mean a bright start for many, but it does start to cloud over with the next weather
02:51system moving in.
02:52So here's a quick snapshot, and you can see the risk of some rain coming into western areas.
02:56But further north and east you are, holding on to some sunny spells and temperatures 15, 16 Celsius,
03:02where we do hold on to that sunshine on Tuesday.
03:05So it remains unsettled the next 24 hours or so, low pressure dominating further April showers.

03:14See you again later.
