17 August - national forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Although it's a humid start to the week across southern parts of the UK, I think
00:05we'll notice a significant change over the next few days as it turns cooler and fresher
00:10with temperatures in many places by the middle of the week below average, not something we've
00:14seen lately. Something that we have seen a lot of this summer is rain focused towards
00:18the northwest and little change for that aspect as we go through Monday. Heavy rain emerging
00:25into the west of Scotland and this slither of cloud affecting much of Scotland, northern
00:30England into central and eastern England. A few light showers on it, even in the east
00:34of England where it has been so dry recently. Now that rain is slow to reach the northeast
00:39of Scotland, so largely dry and bright. But Northern Ireland, Wales and the southwest,
00:43well here we've got a gap with clearing skies and some warm sunshine developing widely in
00:50this area, mid-twenties and in some of the warmer spots across southeast Wales as the sun comes
00:55through as the humidity is felt. Temperatures will reach 26 to perhaps 28 Celsius. Further
01:03east, lower temperatures because of the thicker cloud and across Scotland, Northern Ireland
01:07more like the high teens. Now you can see how heavy the rain gets across Scotland into Northern
01:12England overnight and it spreads into North and West Wales as well as the North Midlands,
01:17even Norfolk getting a few splashes of rain, but it turns increasingly showery overnight. Extensive
01:23cloud cover for the whole of the UK, away from Shetland where it stays largely clear and dry,
01:28and showers for many northern and western parts of the country. Again, no meaningful rainfall
01:34for many parts of England and Wales, but a little bit different compared with recent weather
01:39because of course there will be more cloud in the sky and some light showers. It's also
01:44going to be a mild night for many temperatures staying in the teens. That gets us off to a grey
01:49start in many parts of the country. Showers coming through to the west and at times the
01:54south of the UK. Again, mostly light and fleeting showers. Heavier downpours for Western and Northern
01:59Scotland, some more persistent rain in the far north. And that will continue into the afternoon,
02:04but the skies will brighten once again across parts of South Wales and the southwest. A bit
02:09later compared with Monday and a bit more cloud in the sky. A slightly fresher feel as well,
02:14so temperatures a degree or so down. Still the mid-20s, up to 26 or 27 in some of the
02:20warmer
02:20spots of the south and southwest. Now, later Tuesday, we're likely to see this area of rain
02:26emerging across southern parts of the UK and it may well give a more widespread wet spell or at least
02:36damp spell. Again, no huge amounts of rainfall expected this week, but certainly a different feel
02:43as we go through the middle of the week with temperatures heading downwards close to average
02:47and in places lower than average with cloud and some showers around as well. We'll keep
02:53updated as always on our YouTube channel, but for now that's all for me. Bye-bye.
