26 April - National evening forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello, good evening and welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:05High pressure has dominated the weekend's weather, plenty of hazy sunshine,
00:09but there has been some showers as well, particularly across parts of Scotland.
00:12This will continue the next few days and the risk of some perhaps longer spells of rain for a time
00:17as well
00:17across eastern parts of England, but high pressure generally dominating through much of the week.
00:23So the picture for this evening, variable amounts of cloud across the UK, largely dry though,
00:28further showers pushing eastwards across central and northern parts of Scotland overnight,
00:33one or two of these on the heavy side, a few light showers for Northern Ireland.
00:37Under the clear spells across the UK, we could see some mist and fog patches forming
00:42and perhaps one or two of us still seeing a touch of frost.
00:46Towns and cities holding up above freezing, but in the countryside in one or two prone spots,
00:51we could see temperatures close to around zero.
00:54So it's a mixed start to Monday morning, some mist and fog patches,
00:57some low cloud in places, but some hazy spells of sunshine.
01:01Showers across Northern Ireland, much of Scotland from the word go.
01:04Some of these turning heavy later on in the morning into the afternoon.
01:08And then shower clouds also bubbling up across Northern England,
01:11the Midlands into towards East Anglia by later on in the afternoon.
01:15One or two rumbles of thunder possible, some gusty winds associated with these showers.
01:19But further west and south, generally dry with some sunny spells.
01:23Best of the sunshine across southern parts of England and Wales.
01:27And here temperatures lifting to the low 20s once more,
01:30up to around 22 degrees towards London.
01:32Elsewhere, generally 14 to 18 Celsius.
01:35Feeling a little cooler as those showers slowly move through across northern parts of England, for example.
01:41UV levels generally moderate for most of us,
01:44but in the prolonged spells of sunshine across southern parts of England will be high here.
01:49As we move through into Monday evening,
01:52some of these showers would be merging to give some longer spells of rain.
01:56The odd rumble of thunder is possible as it all pushes southwards into the early hours.
02:00And then generally turning cloudy overnight into Tuesday morning.
02:04Some hill fog developing in places.
02:06Some clear spells holding on across western areas.
02:09And here is where we'll see the lowest temperatures down to around five or six degrees.
02:13Most of us holding up between eight and nine degrees under that cloud.
02:17So it does mean a cool and cloudy start for most of us on Tuesday.
02:21Some showery outbreaks of rain pushing south and westwards through the day.
02:25Some drizzle over the hills.
02:26Some hill fog too.
02:27Best of the sunshine on Tuesday will be across northern Ireland,
02:31northern and western parts of Scotland.
02:33However, it should brighten up across parts of eastern England,
02:36East Anglia, the London area later on in the day.
02:39But a brisk north-easterly breeze developing here.
02:42So towards the coast, it will feel quite cool once more.
02:45Twelve to fourteen degrees.
02:47But further west in the best of the sunny spells,
02:50lifting to around sixteen or seventeen.
02:52So lower than what we've seen over recent days.
02:55As we look further in time towards the middle of the week and Thursday, Friday,
03:00we'll see high pressure building back in.
03:03Plenty of sunshine to come on Wednesday and Thursday.
03:05Just perhaps one or two showers later in the day across the far south-west of England.
03:09An increasing risk of showers towards Friday.
03:13And temperatures likely climbing once more.
03:16Back into the low twenties after a cooler day on Tuesday.
03:19And looks like as we head towards the bank holiday weekend,
03:22increasing risk of some rain again.
