00:00Hello there, welcome to your week ahead forecast from the Met Office.
00:03This week the weather is different.
00:05We're talking rain or showers and turning fresher from the north with the northerly wind.
00:10So low pressure influencing our weather with outbreaks of rain
00:13and then through the middle to the latter part of the week some heavy and thundery showers at risk of
00:16hail.
00:17Turning fresher from the north but we hang on to some warmth across central and southern areas
00:21but temperatures declining day on day.
00:23First of all let's talk about the wet weather, let's talk about the rainfall
00:26and rainfall accumulations through the week Monday to Friday.
00:30So this represents how those rainfall totals will mount up through Monday, Tuesday into Wednesday.
00:35Notice these dark blues representing some higher rainfall totals 25 to 50 millimetres.
00:41We'll see a rain stalling across the far north of Scotland
00:44and then it's heavy showers migrating southwards into Thursday.
00:49So these darker blues sink southwards as well particularly for Pennines, northwest England,
00:54Wales as well as central southern England.
00:55There will be some lighter blues around so a higher chance relative to the last two months
01:00of seeing some wet weather but this will be associated with heavy showers which will just come and go.
01:05They'll be hit and miss but yes a high chance of seeing some wet weather
01:09which is great news for parks as well as gardens and farmland.
01:14Now through this evening, Monday evening into Tuesday you can see this weather front pushing southwards.
01:19It's stalling across the north of Scotland and here we could see some higher rainfall totals
01:23through the day with a brisk breeze.
01:25A brisk wind also across western Scotland and Northern Ireland with a scattering of showers.
01:29First thing though through more southern areas a cloudy start with a little rain in the breeze.
01:35It will come and go but it will dry up here.
01:38A few scattered showers likely across the northwest of England through the day.
01:42The Isle of Man the far north of Wales certainly that will be the case across Northern Ireland
01:46and frequent showers across Western Scotland but it will brighten up in the south as well as the east.
01:51Eastern Scotland seeing some sunshine sheltered by the highlands from that westerly wind
01:57but frequent showers across Western Scotland through the afternoon.
02:01Now temperatures through the afternoon.
02:02We're still reaching 26 across central and southern areas of England.
02:0623 for southern parts of Wales.
02:08Warm across eastern counties.
02:10Also eastern Scotland warm in that sunshine but probably 18 or 19 Celsius
02:14and 16 towards the west there where we'll see most frequent showers.
02:19So some fine weather in the south to end Tuesday.
02:21Showers continuing though through Tuesday evening overnight into Wednesday
02:25associated with low pressure across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:29A trading weather front towards the south will bring also some light rain across England and Wales.
02:34Let's pick up on that rain through Tuesday evening towards more southern areas.
02:38Notice the rain will be heavy across the far north of Scotland persistent here
02:42but thickening cloud brings some light and passing rain across England and Wales
02:47through into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
02:49So a damp start to the day here.
02:52The rain clearing, a few showers in its wake
02:54but at the same time things turn lively across the west of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
03:00This low pressure moves in.
03:02We've got some stronger winds associated with it on its periphery.
03:05A lighter breeze across the centre of the low.
03:08But this air is primed for heavy downpours and we're likely to see some heavy thundry downpours
03:13through the day on Wednesday particularly across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
03:18But all of this will drift their way eastwards as we head through the day.
03:21There could be some showers across England and Wales to start the day on Wednesday
03:24with some sunshine coming through.
03:26A scattering of showers, one or two heavy ones can't be ruled out
03:29but the winds will pick up across Northern Ireland, North West Scotland as well.
03:33So unseasonably strong winds for this time of year
03:36and those showery bursts of rain gradually edging in across Western Scotland.
03:41Now at the same time we do have a northerly wind across the far north of Scotland
03:45turning cooler here with some showers in the breeze as well.
03:48Further south and west, some drier skies, we'll see some sunshine coming through
03:53but those showers just coming and going across eastern counties.
03:56Again, they will be hit and miss.
03:59So there could be some surface water impacts from some heavy intense downpours
04:04towards the northwest as we head through into the afternoon.
04:07And here, temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius, 14 or 15 with that northerly wind
04:12across the far north of Scotland.
04:13We hang on to around 21 anywhere from East Yorkshire down towards Cardiff and Bristol,
04:2022 for Plymouth and 24 for the home counties.
04:24So that's Wednesday afternoon.
04:27Through Wednesday evening and overnight, notice this area of low pressure
04:31gradually sinking southwards.
04:33So the focus of those heavy downpours will be across England and Wales through into Thursday
04:39with a northerly wind to start the day across Scotland and some showers.
04:44But those showers will gather across northern England, Wales, the west country
04:49and they're likely to turn heavy.
04:51So some heavy and fairly slow moving downpours through the day.
04:55Fewer showers across the Midlands towards the east
04:57but we could see some of those developing in situ as we head through the afternoon.
05:01Low pressure, certainly dominating, influencing weather across England and Wales.
05:07At the same time for Northern Ireland, some passing showers cool along that north coast there
05:12but in shelter you'll see some drier skies coming through
05:15and frequent showers in the breeze across central and northern areas of Scotland.
05:19But for the central belt, fewer showers and a little sunshine from time to time.
05:24Expect some hail with the thunder across England and Wales through the afternoon.
05:29Slow moving showers, but in any drier slots we could see 19 to 24 Celsius.
05:35Only 17 for Northern Ireland, a degree or so lower than the beginning of the week
05:39and only 13 or 14 across the far north and northwest of Scotland.
05:44Cool along the coastline there and some showers in the breeze as well.
05:48Now through Thursday into Friday we continue with that showery regime across England and Wales.
05:57Still that cool breeze coming in, an onshore breeze along this eastern side
06:01so temperatures here won't be as high.
06:03But some showers to start the day.
06:06Again there'll be hit and miss, some brighter skies coming through
06:09and with more of a breeze they'll move across the country a little bit quicker
06:14relative to Wednesday and Thursday.
06:17Notice some fine weather coming through across Scotland.
06:20Just a few showers in the wind here.
06:23A similar situation for Northern Ireland as well but further south, yes.
06:28Those showers could be heavy in places, clustering for a time in between some drier weather.
06:34So that's the end of the forecast for the week, Monday to Friday
06:39but let's just have a snapshot of what's going to happen through Saturday as well as Sunday.
06:44To start the day on Saturday there could be some lively downpours towards the southeast
06:49but the bigger picture shows a ridge of high pressure coming in from the Atlantic
06:54so that should dampen down showery activity.
06:57It will mean some quieter weather coming through
07:00but if you are outside through Friday evening or camping into the weekend
07:05it's likely to be a chilly start to the weekend, a chilly night on Friday night.
07:10Quieter weather, a few showers in the mix, feeling a bit cooler at times
07:15but also some sunshine coming through
07:17and as we head through the weekend that ridge of high pressure will decline from the north.
07:23So wherever you are, have a good week.
07:24Stay tuned to the forecast and we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
07:30Bye-bye.
