00:00Hello there, welcome to your Sunday afternoon forecast from the Met Office.
00:04And high pressure still dominates our weather pattern, giving a quite festive period.
00:10And it will remain so for the next few days.
00:12Yes, weak weather fronts will pass on by, giving some showers at times.
00:15But it's all changed, New Year's Eve into New Year's Day.
00:18Cold air starting to move down from the north, an increasing risk of some sleet and snow, particularly in the north.
00:24But for Sunday, the rest of Sunday, a cloudy picture for most of us.
00:28Grey skies, the cloud thickener for some drizzle in the wind, rather breezy still along some southern coast of England.
00:34And also the far northeast of Scotland, Shetland, seeing some gusty winds.
00:38But there is some sunshine on offer, particularly across parts of Scotland, down into northwest England, northwest Wales, perhaps Northern Ireland.
00:45One or two brighter breaks possible elsewhere.
00:48But for most, it's cloudy and grey and perhaps damp at times too.
00:52And temperatures, near average for the time of year for most, five to eight Celsius, perhaps nine Celsius for some coastal stretches in southern England.
01:00Even though we see some sunnier, brighter skies, temperatures across parts of Scotland struggling between two and five Celsius.
01:07So a chilly feel here.
01:08And a frost returning quite quickly as the sun sets and the temperatures fall away.
01:14But overnight, most of us stay in cloudy.
01:16Again, the cloud thick enough for some drizzle at times.
01:19One or two breaks across southern England possible.
01:21So a patchy frost forming here and a frost forming quite widely across Scotland.
01:27Some fog patches also possible.
01:29These could be quite dense, particularly through the central belt.
01:31So it could lead to some tricky travelling conditions first thing on Monday morning.
01:35So just check before setting off on your journeys.
01:38A weak weather front also bringing some showers into northern Scotland by the end of the night.
01:44Temperatures, probably similar to recent nights in the glens of Scotland, down to around minus six or minus seven.
01:49Towns and cities generally falling close to freezing here.
01:52Elsewhere, we have a lot of cloud around, generally holding up between two and five Celsius.
01:56But where we do see any clear spells, a frost is possible.
02:00So rather cloudy Monday.
02:02Yes, there'll be some sunshine across parts of Scotland.
02:05But fog in places too, particularly Glasgow, it could be slow to clear through the day.
02:09This weak weather front will continue to push its way southwards down the North Sea.
02:13Introducing some showers to eastern coast as we go through the day.
02:17Quite a brisk northerly breeze here, making it feel quite chilly.
02:21For most, rather cloudy.
02:22But again, there'll be some sunny spells that develop, particularly across western Scotland, northern Ireland, western fringes of England and Wales.
02:29And again, the cloud, just like recent days, thick enough for some light rain and drizzle in places.
02:34And temperatures very similar, generally between five and seven Celsius, locally eight or nine around some coast.
02:41But if any fog does linger, temperatures across parts of the central belt could struggle to rise much above freezing, if at all.
02:49Into the evening time, those showers in the east just push a little further inland.
02:53But they should weaken, but just could give a damp end to the day across central and eastern parts of England on Monday.
02:58And again, a widespread frost forming across Scotland under those clearest skies.
03:04Looking ahead into the new year, generally staying rather settled.
03:09A lot of cloud around, but it will come and go, allowing some sunny spells.
03:13Overnight frosts possible too.
03:15But just signs of it turning a little bit more unsettled as we head to New Year's Day.
03:19An increasing risk of some wintry showers, sleet and snow, particularly across the north of the UK.
03:25More to come on that over the next few days.
03:28In terms of temperatures, you'll see generally a little below average, three to five Celsius for many of us.
03:34So it will be a chilly end to 2025.
