Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04Bit of a chilly one out there this mothering Sunday.
00:08Blustery showers and rain driving across the UK.
00:11Cold northwesterly flow to isobars tightly packed there,
00:15indicating some strong and gusty winds.
00:17But the next weather system is switching the wind direction,
00:20milder air coming in through Monday,
00:22and then signs that high pressure will build in towards the middle of next week
00:26and temperatures rising above average.
00:28Cloud and rain pushing its way slowly eastwards across England and Wales
00:32as we move through today.
00:33Blustery showers following on behind.
00:35These frequent and heavy, but there will be some sunny spells in between.
00:39Some of the showers could be on the thundery side,
00:42particularly across the northwest of the UK,
00:44and also some hail in there, some snow too.
00:47Snow largely above around 200 to 300 metres.
00:50We could see over the course of the next 12 hours or so
00:53around 5 to 10 centimetres over the Scottish mountains.
00:56So as those blow through, it will feel rather chilly.
01:00Temperatures falling through the afternoon.
01:02Initially this morning we saw highs around 9, 10 Celsius across the north of the UK,
01:07around 7 or 8 by the afternoon.
01:10Highs around 11 or 12 degrees, just ahead of the cold front across southeast England.
01:16But it will feel cold.
01:17The winds are gusting around 30 to 40 miles an hour.
01:20So here's the feels like wrap up warmly if you are in the north,
01:24barely above freezing with the strength of that wind
01:26and those frequent showers pushing through around 7 or 8 degrees across southeast England.
01:32So rather chilly when the cloud and the rain moves through.
01:35Those blustery showers continue to feed in through this evening time again.
01:39And wintry mixture, particularly Northern Ireland, Northern England, Scotland,
01:43some snow accumulating over the mountains.
01:45But the showers do start to ease, particularly across central, southern parts of England and Wales
01:50as we move overnight.
01:52And the winds just fall a little lighter.
01:55Still blustery around western coast where we see the clearest skies.
01:58Temperatures dropping away.
01:59Towns and cities down to 3 or 4 degrees.
02:01So we might just see a touch of frost across eastern areas.
02:04The breeze keeping that at bay across the west.
02:08Where most of us will start off on Monday morning on a bright note.
02:11There will be showers around, particularly across the north.
02:14And then it slowly clouds over from the west.
02:18Outbreaks of rain pushing north and eastwards, particularly across parts of Wales,
02:22the Midlands, Northern England, turning heavy here into the afternoon.
02:26And northwest Scotland as well.
02:27Some brighter skies following on later into parts of Northern Ireland.
02:31Some showers here.
02:33Southern counties of England and Wales not seeing huge amounts of rain,
02:36but clouding over generally.
02:38Could see a few glimmers of sunshine.
02:40The wind's starting to come in from a southwesterly direction.
02:43So temperatures largely back into double figures.
02:4612 or 13 degrees as a maximum temperature where the sun comes out
02:49across some southern counties of England.
02:53This frontal system continues to push northeast through Monday evening,
02:57clearing out into the North Sea.
02:58We're in a broad warm sector come Monday night into Tuesday.
03:02So lots of cloud around.
03:03Outbreaks of rain and drizzle over western hills.
03:06A few cloud breaks and it will stop temperatures Monday night getting too low.
03:11And then high pressure starts to build in as we move through next week.
03:14Increasing amounts of sunshine, particularly across parts of England and Wales.
03:18We may see a stubborn weather front across parts of Northern Ireland,
03:21southern Scotland, Northern England, holding on to some cloud here for a time.
03:24But most places will be dry and temperatures will start to rise as well.
03:28By Wednesday we could be close to 20 Celsius, making it the warmest day of the year so far.
