04 April - National Evening Forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest evening forecast from the Met Office and Storm Dave continues to barrel in from
00:08the Atlantic.
00:08We're going to see a spell of disruptive winds, particularly across northern parts of the UK.
00:14So looking at the bigger picture, Storm Dave approaching from the west this Saturday evening time,
00:19an amber Met Office warning out across northwest Wales, northern England, southern Scotland for strong gusty winds,
00:2660, 70, locally 80 miles an hour possible as Dave moves through.
00:30Heavy rain and hill snow as well across parts of Scotland.
00:34But Dave will move out into the North Sea by Easter Sunday morning and high pressure then starts to build
00:40in to settle the weather down,
00:42particularly as we head towards Easter Monday.
00:45And then temperatures look set to rise as we go towards Tuesday and Wednesday.
00:50So looking at the winds in a little more detail for Saturday late afternoon into the evening time,
00:55gale starting to develop through the Irish Sea as Dave approaches.
00:59And then as we head into the evening time, particularly between 7 in the evening right through until about 3
01:05in the morning when that amber warning is in force,
01:08we could see gusts of 70, 80 miles an hour or so developing, particularly across northwest Wales and then into
01:14northern England as Dave continues to push northward.
01:17Strong and gusty winds, 60 to 80, possibly 90 miles an hour across parts of Scotland as well.
01:22And then it remains blustery as we go into Easter Sunday morning across the whole of the UK ahead of
01:29that high pressure building.
01:30So there could be some tree branches down, some disruption from the wind,
01:34but also we'll see some heavy rain and hill snow across Scotland as well.
01:39In fact, snow down to low levels around 100 metres,
01:42plus we could see around 10 to 20 centimetres, perhaps up to 30 centimetres over the higher ground as Dave
01:48pushes through.
01:49So expect some travel disruption here.
01:52Rain and showers across the rest of the UK, Northern Ireland, parts of England and Wales as we go into
01:57the early hours,
01:58seeing showers and longer spells of rain.
02:00Some of the showers on the wintry side over the high ground of Northern Ireland, Northern England.
02:04Those winds just starting to ease a little, but met obvious yellow warnings remaining out until the early start of
02:11Sunday.
02:11In terms of temperatures, we have strong winds around, not dropping too low.
02:16Generally towns and cities between 4 and 8 Celsius,
02:19just perhaps a little lower across where the coldest air moves in for parts of Northern Scotland.
02:25So a windy, wet start across North East Scotland on Easter Sunday morning.
02:30Warnings out here until midday.
02:31Elsewhere, scattering of showers, prolonged spells of rain pushing its way eastwards through the morning,
02:37turning brighter for the afternoon.
02:39It stays blustery, particularly across the northern half of the UK.
02:42Squeezing the isobars means we could still see gusts of 30, 40 miles an hour or so,
02:46if not a little higher over the higher ground.
02:49Showers becoming less frequent across England and Wales as that high pressure starts to build in.
02:55But fairly fresh air across the whole of the UK.
02:58So temperatures struggling, particularly in the north, below average 6, 7, 8 degrees for many of us.
03:03In the south, a little nearer to average around 13 degrees.
03:06So a fresh feeling day for everybody.
03:09Into the evening time on Easter Sunday.
03:11Those showers continue, but they do ease as we then head overnight.
03:16Most places will be dry with generally lighter winds.
03:18Still breezy around some western parts as the high builds in.
03:22Some cloud across Northern Ireland will stop temperatures from falling too low here.
03:25One or two splashes of rain possible here too.
03:28But under the clearest skies, a colder night to come.
03:31A widespread frost across Northern England into Scotland.
03:34The countryside values of minus 2, minus 3 in places.
03:37And a patchy frost even across southern parts of England and Wales.
03:42So Easter Monday will be a chilly start to the day.
03:44Some mist and fog patches in places.
03:46But then, as high pressure builds, most of us will have a fine day.
03:50Plenty of hazy sunshine to come through the day.
03:53Just the cloud thickest across some western areas.
03:55Perhaps a few splashes of rain across the northwest.
03:58But many places dry.
04:00And in that sunshine, starting to feel warmer.
04:03Temperatures across England and Wales up to 13 or 14 degrees.
04:06But quite widely making it into double figures.
04:09And that high pressure then holds on through Tuesday and into Wednesday as well.
04:15Temperatures start to rise.
04:16Perhaps one or two showers possible over the course of next week.
04:20Particularly across the northwest of the UK.
04:22Some longer spells of rain possible.
04:24And temperatures rising 20, 21 Celsius there in London.
04:28Perhaps locally 22 to 24 degrees for some of us.
04:32But there are signs as we get towards the end of the week, Thursday onwards,
04:36more unsettled weather returns and cooler conditions as well.
04:41So Storm Dave moving through over the next 12 to 24 hours.
04:45Heavy snow, strong winds pushing through.
