00:00Just my opinion, you know, maybe Todd Munkin and the coaching staff sees it different.
00:04When you start with the veteran, right, you already know what you pretty much have.
00:07I mean, maybe there's to some degree his health in this system and what he could do under Munkin.
00:11But you've got to start with there.
00:13And then once you turn it over to Shador or whoever's next, whether it's Dylan Gabriel or him,
00:17you know, that's their team.
00:18Like, he doesn't have to look over his shoulder.
00:20Watson's only coming back due to injury or something else if the team sees that fit,
00:25given, again, the contractual obligations.
00:27So that's why I look at it that way.
00:30Because I think if you really care about winning, he probably gives you the best chance when to start the
00:34season.
00:34But at some point, if you've moved on from that and you feel like he's proven that not to be
00:38the case,
00:38then you go with the young guy.
00:39You get him experience.
00:40You see how much, you know, again, either Dylan or Shador, how much they could grow from that point moving
00:45forward.
00:45That was Brady Quinn.
00:46He was on yesterday morning with the Morning Boys.
00:49We meant to talk about it.
00:50And then the day just kind of happened all day yesterday.
00:52And then before you know it, you look up and it's like, oh, there was audio there that
00:56I feel really passionate about, but I wasn't able to get to.
00:58And so what's interesting is, like, you hear that, coach, and I just, I think to myself,
01:04like, sound it out.
01:05In what world does that make sense, that Shador Sanders benefits from Deshaun Watson being the week one quarterback?
01:11I can't find a world that exists in.
01:14It doesn't make sense to me.
01:15Well, here's, for me, here's what it is.
01:17If he starts and they do it right and there are no shenanigans and there is no, there is
01:21no alternative.
01:22I got you thinking about shenanigans now, don't I?
01:23Yes.
01:24So if you're not, if you're thinking about all that kind of stuff, great.
01:26But if it's legit, which I think Todd Munkin is, I love his thing.
01:30I don't care about the haircut.
01:30I love all that stuff.
01:32Right?
01:32So if it's legit, then that means he's the better quarterback right now.
01:36Doesn't mean he has to be, but everything has to be focused on winning.
01:40Winning is the thing that has to happen.
01:42And if you're doing it right and Deshaun Watson's better, Deshaun Watson's better than Shador
01:48week one, then he plays.
01:51That gives your team the best chance to win.
01:53And I'm not worried about what happens week six.
01:56I'm not worried about what happens week two.
01:58I'm worried about, we're OTAs.
02:00What can you control?
02:02That's what these, for me, that's what older coaches always were.
02:05My dad was the same way.
02:06Control the controllables.
02:08Right now, we're going to figure out who our quarterback is, who's in the building,
02:11all that kind of stuff.
02:12Who understands the playbook?
02:14Who can run my system?
02:15All those things that we won't know everything about.
02:17If it comes down with Deshaun, I'm saying this.
02:19If it comes down, if Deshaun's a starter, he was better than Shador at that point in time.
02:23That's all it means to me.
02:24Okay, but even if that works out that way, and again, I disagreed last segment, but that's
02:28fine.
02:29Odyssey Rewind, you can check it all out.
02:30If it goes down the way you're describing, how is that what's best for Shador?
02:34Because that's the case that Brady Quinn is trying to make right there.
02:36He's trying to spell out how he thinks this is best for Shador, and ultimately, Shador
02:40will end up a better quarterback and a better everything because of it, and I just don't
02:44see it that way.
02:45This is Shador's one chance, I feel like, in the NFL.
02:48That doesn't mean there won't be more chances in the NFL, but as of right now, if he doesn't
02:52start this season and doesn't show what he can do at an extremely high level, then all
02:57of a sudden, you know that used DVD bin that we talk about with quarterbacks that have
03:01to go shopping in?
03:02Shador will be in that bin.
03:03Shador will be in the $5 Walmart bin, and you'll be trying to find if you can get something
03:08out of him.
03:09This is the season for Shador.
03:11It's not sitting beside Deshaun Watson and, I don't know, watching his process.
03:15I just, I don't understand that by Brady Quinn.
03:18Well, if you look at Aaron Rodgers, going back to when Aaron Rodgers, that's the, for
03:22me, that's more the realistic thing with NFL quarterbacks.
03:25The Jaden Daniels of the world are very, very few.
03:27They're the outliers.
03:28I've said I think that's best for Ty Simpson, for instance, to do what happened with Aaron
03:31Rodgers, sit for three years, and hang out.
03:33So you're saying...
03:34But Shador's already played.
03:35But he had to play for what reason, right?
03:37He had to play because there was poor play by two quarterbacks in front of him.
03:40He didn't play because he kind of outplayed those guys.
03:43He didn't, and whether he got a shot or not, he just, whatever it was, at that point in
03:48time, he was not better.
03:49So you think like a full reset, like a three-year just kind of like vacation for Shador's best?
03:54No, I don't.
03:54I just think if you're talking like how it could benefit him, the idea that I'm going
03:59to be behind a guy that hopefully helps him understand coverage a little bit more, hopefully
04:03understands with footwork, how to take care of your body, what to do, you know, is he,
04:07are they close?
04:08Here's the problem.
04:09So losing out to Deshaun will look like he lost out to Deshaun.
04:14That's a problem.
04:15Deshaun hasn't played football in 700 days.
04:17Deshaun, the last three years we've seen him be on a football field, hasn't been able
04:21to finish the season, and the numbers look horrendous.
04:23So like the perception, it won't be, oh, Shador did so much, and he's got such a bright
04:28future.
04:29The perception will be, well, the one year we saw him, fair or unfair, the one year we
04:32saw him, it didn't look very good.
04:34And then you fast forward and, well, he couldn't even beat out Deshaun Watson.
04:39How bad must he be if he couldn't beat out broken Deshaun Watson?
04:44And so like, I just feel like that narrative for Deshaun across the NFL, that narrative
04:49would be almost impossible to come back from.
04:52Well, I don't think if he plays, he's broken.
04:54If he, you know, it's not that he's losing, he would lose out.
04:56I think if Deshaun is not able to play at a high level, I think Shador beats him out.
05:00But if Deshaun is healthy, and once again, that's a big if.
05:04He's had multiple injuries to the heel, he's had multiple injuries to the shoulder, all
05:07those kind of things.
05:08There's almost, there's only so much tread.
05:11However, if he, I don't think of it like that.
05:14I think if he's healthy, he's really good.
05:16And the thing I tell everybody, everybody wanted Kevin out, and I understand that.
05:20Kevin, it was time to move on.
05:21It was me.
05:22I wanted him out.
05:23This is one of those things that you get.
05:24So all the people that thought he hated, you know, Shador, this is an issue because...
05:29I never thought he hated Shador personally.
05:31All those things you said absolutely mean nothing to him.
05:33I just don't think he liked Shador, the football player.
05:35I never thought he hated him personally.
05:37Yeah, yeah, I agree.
05:38But that doesn't mean nothing to Munkin.
05:40Munkin's a guy, when you hear him talk, and once again, seeing him breaking down his film
05:44against the Browns and breaking down his stuff when Georgia was, so I've gotten the opportunity.
05:49He's a guy that he just doesn't care.
05:51And then he confirmed it with me when he said, what's your scheme?
05:54My scheme is to score more points.
05:56That's what I like about him.
05:57So all the things that happened...
05:59It's a good wine.
06:00You know, it doesn't matter what happened before with Deshaun.
06:03Is this a guy?
06:04It could be...
06:05Who cares?
06:05If this is a guy, he's run my offense.
06:08He's done everything I've asked him to do.
06:10He's the better guy right now.
06:11I don't think that takes away from...
06:13I'm hoping, you would hope as a Browns fan and as a football person, that Deshaun got
06:18healthy.
06:18And it doesn't mean he'll stay healthy, but he went through an offseason where he's healthy
06:21and his heel was not...
06:23You know, his Achilles wasn't killing him.
06:25That's the way I look at it.
06:26I don't think of him as if he's the quarterback, he's broken.
06:29No, I think of him as if he's...
06:30No, no, you're in the football business, okay?
06:32And I respect that and I get that.
06:33I'm in the perception business.
06:35Okay.
06:35What I do is the perception business.
06:36Sure.
06:36And perceptionally, and I've just seen this too much, if he can't beat out Deshaun Watson
06:40and people think it's legitimate.
06:42There will be people like myself that don't think it's legitimate.
06:44But if he loses to Deshaun, there's no world that's better for Shador.
06:49Oh, I disagree.
06:50I think when you have a guy, if he comes back and he is not even 100%, if he's 90%,
06:59there's
07:00a lot that he can learn.
07:01There's a ton he can learn from Deshaun Watson.
07:04You know, he got thrown into the...
07:05Yeah, but he's going to have this whole...
07:06It'll all be attached to him, that you couldn't beat out Deshaun Watson.
07:09And people will think, if you couldn't beat out Deshaun at this point, what can you do?
07:13But that only matters to the...
07:14It's like when you get drafted.
07:15You only have to impress one person.
07:17You don't have to impress 32.
07:18No, but Shador is in a spot where he's got to impress the rest of the league if it doesn't
07:22go the way...
07:22If they're going to throw Deshaun out there, and if Deshaun is actually able to stay healthy,
07:26I'm sorry.
07:27But even...
07:28So if he was to go out there, I'm assuming if Deshaun beats him out, and Deshaun's the
07:32quarterback, that he's playing at a really high level.
07:34And the reason he couldn't beat him out is because he's playing at a really high level.
07:37No, so that assumption is false, in my opinion.
07:38I don't know.
07:40There's a world that exists out there where Deshaun is the starting quarterback, and it's not because
07:43he's playing at a high level.
07:44Okay.
07:44He's just playing at a level that's higher than what Shador is able to do in their eyes,
07:48right?
07:49Or, again, the game was rigged.
07:51They were...
07:52All of a sudden, we're back at Chauncey Billups' poker table, and the game is rigged.
07:55Well, if you're playing a game that's rigged, then everything you talk about, it doesn't
07:58matter.
07:58But you see, perceptionally, though...
07:59The alignment, that's all screwed up, then.
08:01They have no chance to win...
08:02Yeah, the perception is what it is, but hopefully...
08:04Especially if Deshaun stinks when he goes out there.
08:07That's...
08:07Deshaun stinks.
08:08Then there's your argument.
08:09What in the world does that help out Shador Sanders?
08:11Because then you couldn't beat him out, and then also you can't beat him out, and he
08:13stinks on top of it.
08:14Well, then that tells you, is there real competition in practice?
08:17Is there...
08:17I look forward to those conversations we have after camp saying, you know what?
08:21He was better, and here's why.
08:23And I cannot wait to watch practice, because I want to see how it's different than what
08:27Kevin ran.
08:27I mean, to me, this almost feels like the Cavs, should they be the four-seed or the three-seed
08:30argument when they play Boston?
08:32To me, it's a very obvious statement that the best thing for Shador Sanders is to play
08:36football week one this season, win the job, showcase what he can do, and then be off and
08:41running from there.
08:42I don't know how Brady Quinn got any other avenue, and I'm having a hard time finding out how
08:47you got another avenue.
08:48I just think if you go in thinking...
08:50I just think the perception is that he's beating out a...
08:53He can't beat out a broken person.
08:55I don't agree with that.
08:56The old person was broken.
08:57If this person can only compete if he's not broken.
09:00If he's broken, Shador will beat him out.
09:02I think Shador will beat him out.
09:04Because of the brokenness that we talked about.
09:06Were you the Celtics?
09:07You don't want to see him?
09:08You want to see him in early or late?
09:10We've got a lot of time to talk about the Cavs if you want.
09:12We can do that later.
09:12All right.
09:13But I want to see him late.
09:14I want to see him late.
09:15And I know you disagree with that.
09:16But we'll save it for when you disagree with it.
09:19Got it.
09:19Got it.
09:19All right.
09:20Let's save this one.
09:21This is part of the fun with this.
09:23I mentioned how last week when Nick was out, it was an agreeable fest for all the people
09:26that came in and hosted with me.
09:27And some did a great job.
09:29Actually, I loved everyone that came in.
09:31But Nick came back, and it's like, disagreements left and right.
09:34And then you, because you've had experience with me, and because we did those Sunday shows
09:38all last year together, I'm like, oh, yeah.
09:40I know our coach is going to disagree with me.
09:42I know.
09:43That's not an agreeable fest.
09:45None of the closest bit.
09:47No.
09:47I like that out of you.
09:48I like that out of you.
