00:00stop the vote stop the count everybody was sitting there making the biggest damn deal saying oh gosh
00:07Deshaun Watson is going to be the starter and then here comes Shador last week this week possibly
00:14going into into into training camp tone it's a big big moment for everybody involved the biggest week
00:21is going on right now the season for the Cleveland routes or am I just trying to speak something
00:27into existence here because you heard something that Jonathan Peterlin asked Albert Breer and you
00:32said it was classic I was leading the witness yeah now I stand down because I've done this
00:38so I got to find out whether or not we've all done it this comes down to it here this
00:42is Jonathan
00:43Peterlin yesterday him and Nick Nick was on the show yeah it's a shared show and they had Albert
00:49Breer on from Monday morning quarterback and this is now listen to the questions that are asked and
00:54how it's asked to Albert Breer it feels like the the Browns came in there with the idea that Deshaun
01:00was going to win this job and now in the past week and a half or so they're more open
01:04to the idea that
01:04Shador has progressed and Shador looks better than maybe even they suspected I don't know what your
01:10read on it is but I'm curious to find out if you think that's anywhere close to right yeah I
01:13mean my
01:14read is these things go back and forth a little bit it's really important the Browns get a read on
01:18the
01:18quarterback position as a whole coming out of this year and I just think logistically it's easier to go
01:23from Deshaun Watson to Shador Sanders and the other way around there is still something there with
01:28Deshaun that he has been doing the right things this off season then you know you want to give
01:32him a shot and see what there is there before you know you're likely to let him go after the
01:37year
01:38whereas with Shador you know I'm under contract for another two years after this one yes you want
01:42to see what you've got but I think there's a little bit less urgency on it I would tell you
01:45this
01:46like I still think there's a pretty damn good chance that the quarterback for 2027 and going
01:51forward isn't on the roster yet but the challenge for Todd Munkin and his staff is going to be how
01:56do
01:56we get the best assessment of the quarterbacks in our roster and the best way to do that is to
02:01give
02:02each guy the fairest chance to win the job and then to keep his job when they have it well
02:06by the way
02:07there's a big story when he talks about 2027 there's a big story going on right now that a lot
02:11of people are outraged by but for the Browns fans out there which I'm talking to 99% of Browns
02:16fans
02:16I think it's a tremendous thing for you and I'll explain this coming up at 701 this morning however
02:21like I'm not going to rip on Jonathan for that because there's a lot of things that I want like
02:25I want Shador to win the job I think we've been pretty I've been pretty open and honest about that
02:29I think he's just more fun to talk about Deshaun reminds me of us are you kidding me well it's
02:34it's
02:35not just the entertainment factor I think it's everything that's involved Deshaun reminds me of of a
02:40lost era of Browns football I couldn't help but wonder you know had he been had they had just had
02:47cooler heads prevail had they had just so like so many scenarios ran through my head yesterday while
02:53Joel but Joel Batonio was talking like so many scenarios tone missed opportunities and I I have
02:59a lot of blame for going after Deshaun Watson for that with Deshaun Watson for that and it just reminds
03:04me
03:05of just a bad time and not that this is so much better but it's a bad time and and
03:10hey
03:12look if if Shador goes out there and plays great great we have that many more picks that we have
03:17to work with but if he goes out there and he sucks up the room hey okay add another name
03:22to the list
03:23I know that a lot of people have had some real personal arguments on the internet I'm sorry about
03:28that guys but in all honesty we move on to the next guy if it doesn't work out and so
03:33I'd much
03:33rather give the younger guy who's much more fun to talk about the chance over the guy that I think
03:39people don't want to see and are sick and tired of hearing about him but so do you have to
03:42take
03:43that into consideration that almost everybody media too by the way I know media is supposed to be
03:48playing it you know down the middle and has to be fair and balanced but who's rooting for Deshaun
03:55Watson to win the starting job I mean anybody who wants to win at all costs they must if because
04:00because you hear so much reporting the people reporting on this as well oh well what do you
04:04think they want no not many they want Shador so they want is that also coloring some of the
04:10perspective on this yeah are are people are people treating this as a fair and open competition or
04:17when you hear Jonathan asking that it seems like it looks like it feels like it's the appearance of
04:23not no that Shador is surging and then Albert comes on and is like yeah guys it's just going
04:29back and forth here I nobody I don't even think the Browns are and guys who's who's you just you
04:34just read Albert had like 3,000 words a lot of it from the Browns perspective on the Miles Garrett
04:41trade where do you think Albert's getting that stuff I think the Browns I want to go through this
04:44with you go ahead I'm sorry where do you think Albert's getting that from not just from the Rams
04:48he had a lot of stuff that he only could have gotten from Andrew from Andrew Barry yeah everybody
04:53else the the the assembled front office members and so when Nick and Jonathan are like yeah it
05:00seems like this is happening right it seems like it's happening and Albert comes on and goes well
05:05it's going back and forth guys it's let's let's they're wearing they're not even wearing pads yet
05:08well like if you went back and listen to Albert Albert is not doing that it seems like it feels
05:14like
05:14did you hear what I was about to say to you I was like well that's better than what it
05:17was
05:17two weeks ago because two weeks ago it just seemed to be this death march to Deshaun Watson being the
05:22starting quarterback for the Browns and nobody being interested in going well I'll see it's draft
05:26and now it does seem like there is a little bit there now there could be a little bit of
05:30a there
05:30could be gamesmanship I thought about this on the drive-in I go is there any possibility Todd
05:35Munkett has been coy about this and open this up because he wants to see what these guys do under
05:39pressure because there's been so 100 okay 100 you can see that because he could just be going hey I
05:45might be crazy I'm crazy like a fox all these reports have been out there he follows all these
05:49things on social media apparently he does from what I'm told and from what we see he sees all these
05:55things he might be going away oh we're getting a little bit too comfortable here and I got a guy
05:59who
05:59does want to compete I got to give him his chance it seemed to be very very deliberate obviously it's
06:06deliberate for a football reason but it's also deliberate in front of God and everybody the first day
06:10that they're out there to see these to see this mini camp should or Sanders is taking the first
06:14team reps right what should or is taking the reps for what purpose for anybody that thought that this
06:19was gift wrap gift wrapped for Deshaun what purpose would that serve for your head coach why wouldn't
06:26he want competition so I wasn't buying that either I wasn't buying that this was just something tailor
06:31made for Deshaun Watson the hell did they get out of that plus not to mention people don't want to
06:36see Deshaun Watson you don't want to even introduce him in front of the crowd in the opener in their
06:41third week at home because why because he could get booed so he got cheered when he got injured he
06:47wants I think why would Munkin gift wrap anything for him I agree with you and I think that it's
06:52so
06:52many fans I I think they lay look at it but I also think it's not just them I think
06:57it's the I think
06:58it's the Browns I think it's probably some of their folks who who are partnered with them are sitting
07:02there going man I want the young guy to go out there and play if you're not I don't know
07:06how good
07:06they're going to be like I don't think they're going to be the worst team in the NFL they're
07:09certainly not going to be the best team in the NFL I think it's in play and it's more likely
07:13that
07:13they're the worst team in the NFL than the best team in the NFL I'll give you but I still
07:17don't
07:17know that I still don't believe that they're going to be the worst team in the NFL I really don't
07:20think they're going to be one of the two worst teams in the NFL I don't think that I don't
07:23think
07:23they're going to be in a real position to take Dante more either but that's a different conversation
07:27that maybe we'll have at seven o'clock because I think there's a conversation that people are
07:30really upset about that Browns fans should love more on that coming up in a bit
07:34But I don't blame Jonathan for leading the witness
07:37because all he's doing is not saying the part that we all want to say,
07:43that we don't want to see Deshaun Watson be the starter.
07:46We're ready to move on.
07:47I got young players.
07:49I saw the great stuff of Carson Swessinger being baptized over the weekend
07:53with all these young guys and moving forward.
07:55Like, let's go.
07:56Let's move forward.
07:57Stop living in the past, man.
07:59And if moving forward means Shador Sanders plays and sucks
08:03and then we move on to somebody else just to finish off the season
08:06and we go to 2027, then damn it, so be it.
08:09But all Deshaun does is remind me of the bad play that happened
08:14and the opportunities that we missed.
08:16And, Tone, I'm telling you, man, like, what good of it are we going to get?
08:21He's got to be so good, and nobody who has been there is saying,
08:26oh, my God, this is just.
08:28If he were undeniable, I'll take it and I'll say fine.
08:30If he were that good, and maybe he is, again, they're only in T-shirts
08:34and shorts, but if he were that great for this team,
08:38then you'd be sitting there tearing around going, well, he's still in his 20s, right?
08:41Still on this side of 30.
08:43Okay.
08:43No one's saying that.
08:45No one's saying that.
08:46There's been, like, one report from Mary Kay about his arm being much better
08:49back to before it was when it was 2024.
08:51I sure as hell hope so.
08:54He's been sitting around for the last couple of years trying to get healthy again
08:57because he's been so hurt and injured.
09:00I mean, this has been a waste.
09:01So I'd much rather go with the guy who gives me any sort of a look at the future.
09:06And it ain't the guy wearing number six right now.
09:09More on that guy coming up here in just moments.
09:112-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
09:13Well, do you want this to be an open competition,
09:15or do you want them to just solidify this up?
09:17I say if we're going to get nuts, you might as well keep this thing open
09:22and let's go on into training camp with it.
09:24I thought that they did have a sincere plan to get this thing hemmed up
09:28in either A, they want to make this thing interesting for themselves
09:32to see who's going to be able to persevere and go out and take this job
09:35because nobody has taken this job,
09:36or B, legitimately Deshaun Watson has not been playing well enough
09:41in T-shirts and shorts.
09:43He probably looks good in a workout,
09:45but when they're actually going out there and playing,
09:47he might not look good enough, and they're going,
09:49what are we doing living in the past with this?
09:51We might as well just go ahead into the future.
09:53I think that that's more likely that that's the real question
09:56that Todd Munkin's asking himself, him and that staff.
09:59Coming up at 7.22, does Cleveland have a new villain?
10:04Todd Munkin talking about his quarterbacks,
10:06didn't talk about one in particular.
10:09Kind of feeling bad for that guy, but...
10:12Taylor Greene?
10:14No, Dylan Gabriel.
10:15Oh, Dylan's still here.
10:17Yeah.
10:17I forgot about that guy.
10:22Well, I got an email.
10:24Social media reactions are brought to you by...
10:26Shive and Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
10:29I got an email from a guy named Jordan,
10:30and it's not too terribly long,
10:33but he says,
10:34Ken, the Dylan Gabriel slander over the last six months
10:37is really confusing.
10:38It's extremely mean-spirited and unnecessary.
10:41He didn't even play that badly when he played either.
10:44He mentions another show on this station being so over-the-top today,
10:48but it was festering me before this.
10:51What's the deal with this?
10:52We need to stand up for this man.
10:54Who cares if he's not going to be our quarterback?
10:56It's really ugly and somewhat of a strange phenomenon
10:58when you've taken everything into account.
11:02It'd be one thing if he went out and he was Nate Petermann'd.
11:05He's just short.
11:06It's really strange.
11:07Go Browns.
11:09Do you feel it's a bit over...
11:11I have an explanation why it's so over-the-top,
11:13but do you feel bad that it's over-the-top?
11:16The explanation doesn't give anything,
11:19but I'm just...
11:19I do have my explanation on it.
11:22I'll take off my sports talk radio host
11:25who's in wars every day about quarterbacks for the Browns
11:28and take that hat off for a second
11:29and just talk about Dylan Gabriel
11:34and how he gets talked about in this town.
11:37It is kind of unfortunate.
11:40It's not like he was in so much of a better situation
11:45than what we all say about Shador
11:47when we say Shador wasn't given the best opportunity ever last year.
11:51Well, either was Dylan, obviously.
11:53Dylan was ahead of him because he was drafted ahead of him,
11:56but he was kind of left for dead once he was, what, concussed?
12:00Why did he leave?
12:02What was the injury last year?
12:04He got a concussion, and then that was it.
12:07And then that was it, which happens.
12:08There was no more.
12:09You know, nobody says this league is fair,
12:13which is what I said to the Shador fans last year
12:16who wanted some fair shot.
12:19Like, well, that's not how the league works.
12:21This was a guy who definitely has not had a fair shot either,
12:24and you could argue he's had it even worse
12:26because, you know, what, their numbers are pretty similar,
12:30although people have pointed out that, like,
12:32Shador's numbers are actually worse than what Dylan Gabriel is,
12:35but nobody's clamoring for Dylan Gabriel to be given another opportunity.
12:39And I said to you a few weeks ago, I go,
12:41I ask any of those people to go back and watch tape
12:43and tell me which quarterback you have more promise in.
12:45I agree.
12:46I thought Shador did too.
12:49That being pointed out.
12:50But neither, let's be honest, neither of them lit the world on fire.
12:53No, neither of them did.
12:54But there's more with a guy who's 6'1", 6'2",
12:59whatever Shador is, than what you have with a guy who's 5'9".
13:03And, honestly, it just seems like if they would have switched places in the draft
13:08and one would have been drafted in the third round
13:11and one would have been drafted in the fifth, and that was Dylan Gabriel,
13:13it would have been – I think it would be a little bit different.
13:16But Kevin Stefanski's been fired,
13:18and the whole thing is is that he was Kevin Stefanski's pick.
13:21And we knew this, and I'm not denying it.
13:24It's not like it's –
13:24Andrew Barry didn't want him?
13:27Tone, I don't think that – if Andrew Barry was standing on the table screaming no,
13:33probably they wouldn't have drafted Dylan Gabriel, okay?
13:36But it's always been said that he was Kevin Stefanski's pick.
13:40So if he's Kevin Stefanski's pick and he was a third-round guy,
13:43considering how the rest of the draft kind of turned out,
13:45where you do have some quality in there, I think a lot of people are going,
13:48man, we could have got somebody who can help out this team.
13:51We could have got another wide receiver.
13:52Could have got another defensive back.
13:54Could have got another lineman who'd been able to help out this football team.
13:57Considering the rest of the draft was pretty good,
13:59I think a lot of people assumed that that third-round pick would have been good.
14:02Instead, you take Dylan Gabriel, whose piece is in parts of a quarterback,
14:05but he's not a full quarterback.
14:07And then you tell me that the coach that they fired is the one that wanted him.
14:10So now it's this guy who really just – he needs to go.
14:15He needs to find a clean slate for himself.
14:17He needs to get out.
14:19He's not in the fans' faces.
14:21It's been pretty quiet.
14:23But there's been – up until yesterday, there was nothing about him
14:27that would show him that he would be the starting quarterback for –
14:30or, excuse me, a quarterback for this football team
14:33or that was even on the roster until they showed him in a different jersey yesterday.
14:37And he was wearing number six, and half the people were mad
14:40because he was wearing JLK's jersey, for crying out loud.
14:43It's almost like a holdover of the coach that they didn't like anymore,
14:48and he's still here, and it still seems to be that old thought.
14:52It's like, man, he just – he already needs a fresh start.
14:55We already need to be away from him.
14:57He's not a part of the now.
14:59He's not a part of the future.
15:00I'm not trying to be mean.
15:01I'm only trying to be truthful.
15:03And if I wanted to be mean, I'd say a bunch of the other stuff
15:05that a lot of the other shows are saying.
15:07I'm not trying to be that way.
15:08It's just the wrong place, wrong time, wrong situation,
15:11and it's got to end by training camp.
15:14The way the fans have reacted to Dylan Gabriel was very interesting.
15:17Remember when Shador had to take up for him because he was getting booed?
15:22And then, remember, he came in – was it the Buffalo game?
15:26Where he came back in the game for one snap and then got booed immediately?
15:30It's like –
15:31Yeah, I know.
15:31It's like, all right, guys.
15:32Like, this is – we're getting a little out of control with this.
15:38Because it just seems –
15:38Like, what did he do?
15:39What was so bad about what Dylan Gabriel did?
15:42He didn't do anything bad.
15:43It's just where he was drafted and who he was allegedly drafted by.
15:47The guy's no longer here, and he was taken in the third round for crying out loud.
15:50Is that typical for rookies to get booed?
15:53No.
15:53Especially that aren't first-round picks?
15:56No, no, no.
15:56Like, that's bizarre.
15:57But at that time –
15:59So let's not act like he's had it easy either.
16:01It's bizarre.
16:02I just said it wasn't easy for him.
16:04I'm saying the fans that have tried to drum up this versus Shador.
16:10And it's like Shador even took up for him and went after the fans for booing him.
16:13It's not a being nasty about it.
16:15I'm trying to be just – I'm trying to call it down the line and not be mean-spirited about
16:20it.
16:20It's just not going to work.
16:21Which is all it's been.
16:22It never has.
16:22It's only been mean-spirited towards Dylan Gabriel.
16:25That's all it's been.
16:25That's all it's been.
16:26Because it's very easy.
16:28I just have not seen that much, especially for a bad team, welcoming in a rookie.
16:33Normally, it's honeymoon period.
16:35Like, Dylan never got a honeymoon period at all.
16:37They didn't trust the coach.
16:39They don't really care for the coach.
16:41Now that coach is fired.
16:42And this is just kind of a holdover of the old days.
16:45And they don't like it.
16:46And I don't think – how can he like being here?
16:48How on earth can he like being here?
16:50How on earth can he like this situation?
16:51Like, you'd be calling your agent daily, twice a day, three times a day.
16:56Did you get a deal done?
16:57Did you get a deal done?
16:58Did you get me cut?
16:59Is there anything I can do to get out of here?
17:01Well, it's the same stuff.
17:01What can I do to get out of here?
17:02Anytime we had talked about maybe Deshaun Watson starting the year, all the Shador fans are like,
17:07he needs to be – just go to a different team that actually likes him.
17:09Well, here is a case where there's no future for Dylan Gabriel here.
17:13Like, he's the one that absolutely –
17:15But if he's this supercomputer that – here I am.
17:17Now I'm sounding like I'm taking shots.
17:19If he's this supercomputer that they say, yeah, he'll be an emergency or P-Squad guy.
17:25It was a bad pick.
17:26They should have used the pick on a different player.
17:28I didn't understand it then.
17:30I still don't understand it now.
17:32None of us understood it.
17:33And I'm saying that not trying to be mean.
17:35I swear to you.
17:35If I wanted to be mean, I'd start being mean.
17:38I'm not trying to be mean.
17:39But there's no way he wakes up in the morning and is so excited to go over to Bria.
17:45There's not a chance in hell.
17:46When this guy goes, I'm sure there's going to be some stuff out the door.
17:50I'm sure he's not going to say he liked his time here.
17:52But honestly, you're not going to hear very much of him because he's going to go somewhere else and he's
17:55not going to be heard of.
17:56And then getting humiliated with the jersey thing.
17:58And now he's just a meme on the internet.
18:00It's like, did Dylan Gabriel do anything to deserve that?
18:02To have to go out there and wear the same jersey.
18:05And again, that picture where they're kind of standing close to each other.
18:08It's so embarrassing.
18:08He looked like a father and son at Brown's camp.
18:11I got Jared Verse, who's a monster compared to him.
18:14And I'm going, there's so many better ways to do this.
18:17And the first step towards it is moving on from each other.
18:21And as soon as they possibly can do that, as soon as they find a suitor for it.
18:24Because I know Andrew's always going to say quarterbacks are currency.
18:27So you're going to get something for them.
18:29You are going to do your damnedest to get something for them.
18:31But as long as they can keep it out of sight, out of mind, maybe.

18:47Oh my gosh.
18:49It is a vitriol.
18:52Unlike I can't believe.
18:54And it's no fault of his own.
18:56It's just this, he's become this representation of the coach that they didn't like anymore.
