02:34I mean, I think Deshaun, just because he's the veteran and just looking at the situation,
02:41I was thinking about this yesterday because I was out at the Shador Sanders two legendary
02:47youth football camp and listening to what he had to say about the situation, but just thinking
02:54about where the Browns are at right now, I think it's much easier to transition from Deshaun
03:00to Shador than to transition from Shador to Deshaun, if that makes sense.
03:05And I do feel like there would be a transition.
03:08Now, I also feel like Shador could win this job, but if I had to put odds on it or
03:18whatever,
03:19I would say Deshaun is the favorite to win the job and start week one in Jacksonville.
03:26Darrell, it's interesting you say that because any time that I've made a case that maybe
03:31for Shador and the betterment of his career, that he might be better off, especially with
03:36the retooled offensive line that's going to need time to gel, all the young, skilled position
03:41players, and then a new head coach.
03:43There's so much in a very fluid situation.
03:46Every time I say that, you know, people draw comparisons to guys that just play right away
03:51and should just play, and why would you ever think it's better not playing?
03:54But I do think there's been a little bit of a transition in the NFL.
03:57And I know he played seven games last year, but we all, you got to give him some break.
04:02That was not the easiest situation to walk into, nor was it for Dylan Gabriel, nor was it
04:08for anybody last year.
04:09Right.
04:10And I would agree with you to an extent.
04:13I certainly hear the folks that will argue, hey, you either can do it or can't do it, and
04:18it shouldn't matter, you shouldn't need the extra time or whatnot, but let's keep in mind
04:24that in the NFL, Shador is being asked to do a lot of things that he had never been asked
04:29to do before as a football player when it comes to running and operating a pro offense.
04:36It's a lot more detailed, I think, than what he was exposed to in his collegiate career.
04:45And that's okay.
04:47And he, you know, I just, I feel like that even if he doesn't win this competition and
04:54he starts out as the number two quarterback, I don't view that as a failure by any stretch
04:59of the imagination.
04:59I know there will be some folks out there that will view it that way.
05:05I won't.
05:06And I, you know, I do feel like that it could be somewhat of a positive if you give him
05:12a couple of extra weeks to, you know, kind of work his way into things.
05:19The other thing too is, you know, hey, they are paying Deshaun a lot of money and you want
05:24to see if he can squeeze any blood out of that rock.
05:28I don't know that they will be able to do so.
05:30But you turn this thing over to Shador, maybe in mid-October or whatever, and let him take
05:36you to the finish line.
05:38You get a really, really good look.
05:40As you said, the offensive line is established, the receivers, this is, you know, you got two
05:45young guys being added to this receiver core in Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston, allow
05:53them to kind of get their feet wet a little bit.
05:56So if he doesn't win this competition, I don't think that that is a slight on Shador by any
06:01stretch of the imagination.
06:02I don't think it's a reflection on whether or not he's going to be a successful quarterback
06:07in the National Football League.
06:09I think that there's, you know, some external factors that are really out of his control.
06:16But he seems to really have a very positive mindset.
06:21And he always has, you know, projected a lot of positivity, but he really seems to have
06:28a positive mindset going in to this quarterback competition with Deshaun as far as how he's
06:35approaching it.

06:40Let me throw some alignment here, okay?

06:43You think it could be better if he doesn't play?
06:45If he doesn't start?
06:46If he doesn't start, because what I get nervous about is if he starts immediately and you
06:54just go through the normal, like, introduction to a new team and, you know, look, they don't
07:00have Myles Garrett to help save them like they did at the end of last year where Myles was
07:04like single-handedly winning games.
07:05You're playing from behind.
07:07You're in bad situations.
07:08Like, if that happens for four or five weeks, then that could be it.
07:12I think it could be a blessing in disguise, but I'm not going to say it's better for him
07:16because I do think that if he does not start the season, I mean, I've sat here and hosted
07:21with Jason.
07:22I mean, he says if he's not going to play, they might as well cut him, which I think is
07:26nuts.
07:27So who groaned?
07:28Was that Lyman or was that, okay.
07:30Like, I do think there is pressure on him to play and to play early because, one, the
07:34guy he's going up against in this competition isn't very popular, and two, you want to see
07:39what he has.
07:40And what Lyman says might be sensible, but I just think that I'm going to hear a lot of nonsense
07:45if he doesn't end up playing.
07:46Well, I also don't think that Deshaun's very good anymore.
07:49I think that's another, I mean, that's just another aspect.
07:52And again, I don't think it's realistic to expect that Deshaun's going to be any good
07:56either.
07:57I mean, during the offseason program, he, yeah, he did have a couple of wild throws, but
08:03then he also had some, I can't believe we just saw that type of throw.
08:08So yeah, I think that Deshaun's best days are certainly behind him.
08:13I have no expectations that Deshaun is going to be able to do much for the Cleveland Browns
08:18this season.
08:19Hopefully I'm wrong.
08:20Hopefully whoever starts, goes out there, has a tremendous amount of success, and we
08:25have a lot of Victory Mondays to talk about, and we're not having the same conversation
08:28that we've had for the better part of the last 15 years since the station's been on the
08:33air.
08:34But that is kind of my worst fear right now, is that ultimately that's where we're going
08:38to land, and that is being frustrated with the quarterback play.
08:42But I really do like, and certainly didn't, you know how popular Shadour is, but I got
08:51to tell you guys, I've covered a lot of those youth football camps involving Browns players.
08:58And I, man, the way those kids reacted to Shadour Sanders yesterday, I know Shadour is popular
09:04amongst the youth, but I mean, it was on, that reaction was on another level yesterday.
09:10It really was.
09:13And so I think not that that should factor into like the Browns decision-making process, but
09:20I'll say this, if Shadour Sanders can do this, if he can go out and play really well and show
09:29that he can be the franchise quarterback, good times will be ahead for the Browns when it
09:38comes to recruiting some of those young fans that, quite frankly, they've lost in recent
09:44years because of their inability to win a lot.
09:48Daryl, it's, I was looking at your coverage from the camp and it looked like those kids
09:52just had an absolute blast.
09:54So kudos to Shadour for doing that.
09:56What, free of charge also?
09:58Yeah, Shadour worked with the Browns and the Browns youth football program.
10:06No charge, because a lot of these camps, you know, the parents and kids, there's a participation
10:12fee.
10:12None of that, about 500 kids yesterday, free of charge.
10:16Um, and, and he also gave out, uh, uh, they, they did, uh, uh, head, shoulders, uh, knees
10:24and toes, uh, competition.
10:26And Shadour ended up giving out a, uh, a really nice chain to the winner as well.
10:32But yeah, the kids had a blast.
10:34You, you could, you, I mean, and, and Shadour seemed to have a lot of fun, uh, going around
10:39and, uh, hanging out with them as well.
10:41Well, so I saw over the weekend, Rex Ryan, uh, went on the attack apparently because there
10:47was a behind the scenes Shadour Sanders photo shoot, which I thought looked really cool.
10:53It does all these jerseys.
10:55And then, uh, they're showing, you know, how the photo shoot came to be and Rex Ryan tweets,
11:00get a load of this kid, great talent, but needs to realize as a quote franchise QB, there
11:04has to be more than me.
11:06Come on, man.
11:07Uh, and, and, and tag the dog pound.
11:09Do you think like this summer where he has dropped a single, he's got all the behind the
11:16scenes stuff, the photo shoots, you know, he's so the short film release, like this
11:22is the stuff that will get used against him.
11:24If he's not good, they'll say you weren't focused enough on football.
11:27Yeah.
11:27And that's true.
11:28Uh, my counter argument to that is, um, we're in the off season and he's free to use his
11:34personal time, any way he chooses.
11:36So if he wants to record a single and he wants to do the stuff, I mean, you know, uh,
11:41I don't
11:42think he needs to have a film crew following him around in Berea during, you know, during
11:46practices or before practices or after practices, that just me, uh, I would like him to keep the
11:52main thing, the main thing and, and, and focus 100% of his attention on football.
11:58But when it comes to his personal time, and if he wants to go do photo shoots in the off
12:02season and all that kind of stuff, God bless him.
12:05Like let him live.
12:07The, the, these, these guys are human beings as well.
12:10They should be able to have a life.
12:12And it's also, by the way, very clear that he put in work this off season.
12:17I mean, he, uh, helped with the, the get together in Miami and the, and the workouts with, uh,
12:22teammates and, and Deshaun was down there as well.
12:25Um, and he acknowledged yesterday, Hey, last year, that was something he couldn't do.
12:29He was a rookie.
12:29He was a fifth round pick learning his way.
12:32Uh, he mentioned how he wanted to be respectful of the process and, and not really step out
12:37of the line and whatnot.
12:38And I think that shows a little maturity on his part to admit that, but he said this
12:42year, Hey, yeah, I felt pretty comfortable asking guys to get together and, and let's get
12:47some work in.
12:47And, and, and, you know, while he and Deshaun, uh, are going to be competing for a starting
12:52job, there's, you know, there's no animus between them.
12:56They are teammates and, and whatnot, and, uh, they're not going to allow the competition
13:00to cause any type of a fracture within the team or between them as well.
13:05So, uh, yeah, I, I, I, when you mentioned Rex Ryan, I just immediately started rolling my
13:11eyes because it seems like sometimes he just wants to complain for the sake of complaining.
