02:40but I could see Shador, believe it or not, coming out of my mouth.
02:43And I could see us having a totally different opinion by the end of the year.
02:47And like the caller, I've said since the day Todd Munkin was hired, when we got the text,
02:52I believe that Deshaun Watson's the leader for the job.
02:55And I think if Todd Munkin was forced to make his pick for who plays this Sunday, it's going
02:59to be Deshaun Watson.
03:00For all the reasons that have been brought up, the system, the offense, what James Palmer
03:05said.
03:05However, you know what?
03:06There's a former quarterback who, now he did stop playing a long time ago, but he still
03:11looks immaculate.
03:13Brady Quinn was on afternoon drive yesterday, and we've been discussing the type of offense
03:19that Deshaun Watson would play in with Todd Munkin.
03:23Brady Quinn's wondering what Shador would look like in that system.
03:26The situation and circumstance is paramount for most players.
03:29I would be willing to sit there and say, look, I don't care how good it was Patrick Holmes
03:33or Tom Brady, if they don't have help out around them, they're not going to be able
03:36to be the players that Tom has been or Patrick is.
03:39It does take a big supporting cast.
03:41You have to have a lot of the pieces that you're talking about.
03:43That definitely plays a factor.
03:44I mean, I think, you know, one of the things I was most curious to see for sure last year
03:48was on teams, you could see him make those NFL throws, but their offense wasn't that
03:52of which he was asked to do the same things he was going to be asked to do in Svansky's
03:55offense.
03:56And I think at times, you know, he has struggled a little bit with that, which every rookie
03:59is going to do.
04:00But there were some flashes, too, where you saw his ability and you saw what he was capable
04:04of.
04:04It leaves me optimistic about this season for him, you know, a full offseason, granted
04:08new offense, but one that probably, again, fits even his skill set better.
04:12If you go back to his days before Colorado, too, constantly playing in shotgun, constantly
04:16playing in offenses that aren't going to be based so much off of the outside zone running
04:20scheme and a lot of the boots and things that Svansky would have liked to do and likes
04:23to do with his quarterbacks under center, it changes the dynamic a bit.
04:26So I think this is a much better fit for him.
04:27I'm really curious to see what he does in year, too.
04:30And Brady Quinn even said earlier in the interview about this offense, and I love what he says
04:35about Shador right there.
04:36I totally agree with what Brady Quinn's saying, because it's not much about Shador.
04:41I think it's more about Todd Munkin.
04:42But I think I sound a lot like Brady Quinn.
04:45I certainly don't look a lot like Brady Quinn.
04:47But he even says he believes, I believe, Shador will, or Deshaun Watson will start week
04:51one.
04:52To start the season, I think it'll be Deshaun.
04:54I mean, they've got so much money wrapped up into him.
04:56And to be quite honest, I think if you look at the body of work of Deshaun, when he was
04:59healthy, and I know that's dating him, but he's a much better fit for what Todd Munkin
05:04wants to do than what he was being asked to do under Kevin Stefansky.
05:07I always kind of thought that was a bad pairing together.
05:09It's one of those deals where hopefully he's healthy enough and the Browns can actually see
05:13what he's capable of.
05:14But I would think from the financial perspective and the experience, it would make the most
05:18sense to start the season with Deshaun.
05:20Now, if things go sideways quick, then you see what you have in Shador.
05:24I think he also did enough last year to make him intriguing and to make you want to take
05:28a look at him a little bit longer before you go into next year's draft.
05:32And I've said this all along on our radio show and everything else we've done.
05:35Next year's draft class, to me, is one of the most intriguing I think I've ever seen since
05:39I've gotten into broadcasting.
05:40I mean, there's legitimately about 10 to 12 guys who I think have the capabilities of
05:45being looked at as first round picks.
05:46Now, we'll see how this year goes.
05:47That always plays a factor in all of it.
05:49But next year and even the following year, you're going to have guys who are going to
05:52become draft eligible.
05:53They're absolute studs that are going to be first round picks.
05:55So it's going to be fascinating to see what the Browns do, in particular later on in the
05:59season or if Deshaun gets off to a slow start.
06:01The only thing I disagree about is the money.
06:03I think Jimmy Haslam would light a pile of money on fire if it meant he could win more games.
06:07I don't think he cares about that.
06:08He's set a pile of money on fire by bringing players to try to win more games that hasn't
06:13worked out.
06:14One in particular, obviously.
06:16But what Brady Quinn says in both those cuts, you can hear that interview again, 92 through
06:20the fan dot com.
06:21Brady Quinn was great there.
06:24You got to remember, it can't be system player to the system.
06:28It has to be system to the player.
06:30You can't like Tom Landry did it.
06:32Now I'm getting dated and into the weeds here.
06:35But you remember they tried to do a two quarter.
06:37Not a lot of people remember.
06:38They tried to do a two quarterback system once and it went terrible because he tried
06:42to fit him to the system.
06:44You have a situation where Bill Walsh tried to do a two quarterback system once.
06:49It's like, you got to go with one guy.
06:50Didn't go that terrible with the Cowboys, but it did go very badly with the 49ers.
06:54I remember John Cooper trying to do it a couple of times.
06:56Okay.
06:57That would probably be exhibit A right there.
06:59Right?
06:59It just, it was hard to do with all these guys.
07:03But if you try to fit the player to the system, remember Pat Shermer in the West Coast offense?
07:08You try to fit the player to the system, you're going to be trying to fit it all year and
07:11you're eventually going to be out of a job when you're trying to fit him to the system.
07:14You're going to have to make those changes.
07:16And that's still, to me, gives Deshaun Watson the leg up because you're going to be more
07:21comfortable in your system.
07:22If Deshaun Watson is a better fit for your system and he's a veteran, you're probably
07:26going to go into the Deshaun Watson territory there to start Deshaun Watson for the season.
07:30And then if you have to do it, yeah, you're going to do some things differently.
07:34If, if Shador Sanders in your system, your system can't get from point A to point B, you
07:40got to switch where point B is and get them as close to where you need them as possible.
07:44You're going to have to change your system.
07:46You're going to have to make it easier.
07:47And I would expect Todd Munkin, this is part of his job.
07:50You've been in the NFL, you've been in professional football of some sort, college pro football,
07:55high level football for 40 years.
07:57I would hope you're able to switch somebody and be able to mold your system to help them
08:02best.
08:03That would be a Todd Munkin issue.
08:04If Shador Sanders was out there and just lost either A, he really has no clue about NFL
08:10offense whatsoever, or B, you have not, you have failed to put him.
08:16In a position to succeed.
08:18That would be a giant excuse to a lot of people.
08:20There's no time for those excuses.
08:22The 2027 draft is right in front of us.
08:24So we'd have to cut ties, but it could still be an indictment on him.
08:28Like I just brought up with Pat Shermer.
08:30Well, and I wondered, you know, Kevin Stefanski caught a lot of flack for trying to get his
08:37quarterbacks to do things they weren't necessarily capable of doing.
08:40And then what happened when all of a sudden Joe Flacco took over towards the end of the
08:44year?
08:44Oh, we've got a quarterback that can actually do the stuff that Stefanski wants him to do.
08:48And now Todd Munkin is coming in.
08:51He obviously has seen plenty of tape.
08:54It's probably the first thing he did when he got the job is to pour over all the bad
08:59tape from Deshaun Watson, try to figure out what is it I can do with him?
09:05What are the things to do with him?
09:07And then he's got this rookie who, let's be honest, was brought into such a bad situation
09:14that how could you evaluate if you're a coach trying to figure out what Shador does well?
09:18Well, him just avoiding pass rushers and it looked amazing.
09:23Some of those big time, you want to talk about like those deep throws and avoiding the sacks,
09:30but you're not designing an offense around that.
09:33How is Todd Munkin supposed to come in and design anything for Shador when he is seeing
09:38Deshaun Watson play and he has years to go back and things he can find that are good and
09:43bad.
09:44So that's almost an unfair spot for Shador, but that's just a byproduct of coming into
09:49the league and having a new coach.
09:52You know, that's what happens.
09:53By the way, Jackson Dart has a new head coach this year, so he's going to be faced with that
09:57as well.
