00:00There was a show that was called Numbers Never Lie, which was false advertising because I'm going to show you
00:08numbers that lie.
00:08Oh, excuse me. Lima is going to show you numbers that lie. Lie right to your face.
00:13Yeah, I saw this yesterday with the great Johnny Manziel making the rounds again on social media and sparring with
00:21people here in Cleveland.
00:22Do I have to share my opinion of him again to do that?
00:25If you want, sure.
00:26I'll do it after you get the numbers.
00:28You have something new?
00:28No, no, I don't.
00:29I don't.
00:30I'll give you.
00:31He did.
00:32He did write one thing.
00:33Well, he wrote several things I had a problem with, obviously.
00:35But I will defend one person right off the rip on what he wrote there, going after one of our
00:41friends at another station.
00:43But I found it interesting that people can't help themselves because everybody was obviously piling on how bad Johnny Manziel
00:51was as a Browns quarterback.
00:52And then somebody put the side by side of his numbers in his starts versus Shador Sanders in his starts
00:58and his numbers appeared to be better, which is unbelievable because I remember the Johnny Manziel experience and it seemed
01:08like the worst you could possibly have.
01:10He did connect on some deep throws.
01:11I do remember that.
01:12It wasn't an offense.
01:13No.
01:14It wasn't an offense.
01:15And I remember it distinctly.
01:16I remember coming in here and Kevin going, why are you excited?
01:19I'm going, did you see the passes?
01:21He goes, Kenny, that's not an offense.
01:23And I swear to God, in five minutes, I went, oh, my God.
01:26He goes, I told you.
01:27Like, he had me.
01:29He changed my mind five minutes before the show.
01:31Because he, listen, say what you will.
01:34Guy knew a lot about football.
01:36And Kevin, right off the rip, was just like, no, Kenny, that's not an offense.
01:40Come on.
01:40You know that.
01:41That's getting lucky on deep balls.
01:43Well, Travis Benjamin, I remember he linked up with them a couple times.
01:46It was Travis Benjamin getting behind the defense of a bad football team at that time.
01:49The Tennessee game.
01:49Because Tennessee's gone through it almost as much as we have here over the last 26 years.
01:53And you know what?
01:55He was right.
01:57This is why I hate some of the numbers.
02:00The numbers lie.
02:01If you didn't watch Browns football, you would look at the two numbers between Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders.
02:06And you would say, Dylan Gabriel needs to be the starter for this football team.
02:10Tell me, anybody who has eyes or ears, if they believe that Dylan Gabriel should be the starter,
02:16unless they just hate Shador that much.
02:17Tell anybody that Dylan should be the starter over Shador Sanders based on what they saw and what they heard
02:26while they saw it.
02:27There's not a chance.
02:28And it's the same thing with this idiot.
02:30It's the same exact thing.
02:31You're talking about Manziel, not Shador.
02:33And I'll address it.
02:34Because we got to get over it at some point, guys.
02:36Like, I said it to Daryl.
02:39I know that our friend at the other station said it.
02:42This is his act.
02:45Is what he does is he says incendiary things.
02:49And he said it months ago.
02:51He says silly, incendiary things, gets us to react, because it draws more attention to him.
02:59And I told you on Monday, and I'll tell you again on Thursday, and I'll say it as long as
03:03I have to, but I hope I never have to say it.
03:06Because I hate repeating myself on this stuff.
03:09If you walk by some derelict, drunken idiot on the corner of the street, and he's yelling things at you,
03:16on day one, you're going to pay attention.
03:18You're going to see it as you walk by going, oh, my God, what's that guy saying?
03:22On day two, when you see some derelict, drunken idiot yelling at the corner of the road, and he's still
03:28yelling about the same things, you're going to go, I can't believe that guy is still yelling.
03:32On day three, you start to ignore him.
03:36And it's been how many years?
03:39The story's not changed.
03:41An idiot is an idiot is an idiot.
03:45We've got to move on.
03:47It was a bad chapter in our lives as Browns fans.
03:50I wanted him to be successful.
03:53Everybody wanted him to be successful.
03:55Tony wanted him to be successful.
03:57Everybody wanted him to be successful.
03:58Do you think we like sitting here going over bad quarterback after bad quarterback?
04:04No.
04:04But the worst part about it is that everybody in Cleveland wanted him to be more successful than him.
04:13That's the biggest problem.
04:14And the guy who really knew the truth, that one sitting across the way from me here, tried to tell
04:20all of us.
04:21And I literally, I will tell you this, how bad I wanted it for the guy.
04:25Now you got me going.
04:26How bad I wanted it for the guy.
04:28I turned around like I was being shown.
04:32Like the movie The Penguin.
04:34Oh, God.
04:34What are you showing me?
04:35I turned around and walked out of the newsroom as you showed me pictures of what was being sent to
04:42you at two in the morning.
04:45Before AI, guys, before Photoshop really became a big thing, I turned around and walked away.
04:51I didn't want to see it.
04:53I didn't want to hear it.
04:54And by the way, him throwing Mike Pettin under the bus of the entire ridiculous, disgusting post that he made.
05:00What was that?
05:00Because he's an idiot, and that's what idiots do.
05:03They just show their ass publicly like that.
05:05And that's what morons, and I almost said a different word, dummies do.
05:09And so let me tell you this.
05:10I'll say this for Mike.
05:12All right?
05:12He don't need me to defend him.
05:13And he probably doesn't know about it.
05:15He probably doesn't care.
05:16Mike wanted him to play.
05:18Mike wanted him to play.
05:19He wanted him to be able to play.
05:21He trusted Brian more because Brian is a professional.
05:25And Brian knew the offense.
05:27And I will tell it until the day is done.
05:31If we really want to get into it, I sat there while he talked about how he wanted to play
05:36him.
05:37I told you about all that.
05:39We had, and I've said this on the air before, we've had long conversations with Mike.
05:43Off the air.
05:45Now, some of that, obviously, I'm never going to share.
05:47But I will tell you this.
05:49He wanted him to play.
05:50Because everybody wanted him to play and play well, except for the guy who actually had to play.
05:56And he went out there, and he embarrassed himself.
05:58And he continues to embarrass himself.
06:01And that's why the only corner of anybody that will accept him is in College Station, Texas.
06:06Because they don't have to worry about what he did with the Browns and how he embarrassed himself.
06:10Where he still can make $30,000 in appearance.
06:12And good for him.
06:13Yeah.
06:14Good for him.
06:14That's incredible.
06:15But in my world, he can make $30,000 in appearance in College Station, Texas.
06:20But in my world, guys, he's a, in our world, it should be our world, he's a derelict moron yelling
06:26on the side of the road.
06:27And at some point, you've got to go to work.
06:30I can't listen to you rant and rave about God and everything else.
06:34I've got to get to a place.
06:35Sorry.
06:36My life has to continue.
06:37I can't keep doing this every six months with this moron.
06:40He was in a mixed martial arts fight.
06:42So you've got to give him that.
06:44Congratulations.
06:45If that's considered work right now.
06:46But it's why also.
06:48So I'm done.
06:49So obviously, I like Shador's potential after seven games more than Johnny Manziel's potential.
06:55But I have to say it's why I also, just because I saw some good throws out of Shador, I
07:02saw good throws out of Johnny Manziel.
07:04I saw good throws out of Gardner Minshew.
07:07I saw good throws out of Deshaun Kaiser.
07:09Like, there's a bunch of, every guy in the NFL now, the 60-some quarterbacks that started last year, they
07:15all had some nice plays.
07:17That doesn't mean they have some great future ahead of them.
07:19Like, we're going to need to see a ton more.
07:22And fortunately, we will with Shador.
07:24That's why he's in an honest quarterback competition this time around.
07:27Not the garbage that everybody was subjected to last year.
07:31We're going to get that opportunity where Shador is going to get some starts this year.
07:36I don't think he's getting traded.
07:37I don't think he's getting cut, even though his fans will want him out of here on the first chance
07:42they, the first lolly the trolley chance they get if he doesn't win the quarterback competition.
07:47But he's going to get some starts this year.
07:49He'll get the opportunity.
07:51The only difference is that one, excuse me, there's many differences, but the baseline difference, I should say.
07:57The baseline is at least Shador tries to help himself.
07:59The other guy didn't.
08:01The other guy is an idiot.
08:05And, guys, I'm tired of punching down.
08:08Tired of punching down.
08:10It's the same thing I got, honestly, I got kind of upset with Jim Bowden yesterday who had the thing,
08:14all right, send Cooper Engel down.
08:15It's a former baseball general manager.
08:17No, you wouldn't.
08:17You wouldn't have sent him down after that.
08:19You wouldn't have done that.
08:20And then people agreeing and say, well, Terry Francona would have done that.
08:23There's no way on God's green earth he would have done that.
08:25We say things for attention.
08:27We have to say something with substance.
08:31Are we done with that now?
08:32I think so.
08:33Can I be done with this?
08:34I think so.
08:34Or am I going to get drug into something else in six months?
08:37Hey, we have two quarterbacks now.
08:39Every time I see any of their social media, it's them working out.
08:42Saw Deshaun Watson was in the facility throwing to Merrill Fanning.
08:48I have way more substantial conversations about Deshaun Watson, who nobody wants to see, than I've ever had about the
08:56other guy.
08:57Mary Kay Cabot literally boarding a plane telling us about the Cleveland Browns because there is no offseason.
09:03To Mary Kay Cabot, absolutely outstanding.
09:07Absolutely outstanding.
09:08Yeah, I think some people are getting confused.
09:12It's not.
09:13I just don't have a problem.
09:15Like, I want Shador to start.
09:17And we're going to get back to the Cavs and Donovan because I knew I wanted something else I wanted
09:21to say.
09:21But then this kind of took off.
09:22There's people who want to get in about this and about everything.
09:25The credit being given to Deshaun Watson for coming back here.
09:28There's some people who got a problem with that.
09:31But I do think when it comes to the quarterback situation, I want Shador to start.
09:37Do you want Shador to start, by the way?
09:39Yeah.
09:39Yeah.
09:40So the guy who's called the biggest hater on the internet when it comes to Shador wants him to start.
09:44It's either you or Jason.
09:45Jason, who knows what that guy wants.
09:47You want him to start.
09:48I want him to start.
09:49I'd rather have that conversation about him.
09:51But I'm willing to accept Deshaun Watson starting because of all the reasons we've said for many, many months.
09:56That's a new coach, new system, one guy's a veteran.
09:59I don't think it comes down to money.
10:00I don't think that Jimmy Haslam cares about money.
10:02I don't think he does.
10:04I think that they think about the cap hit, the implications, and they'll hold on to him for one more
10:08year.
10:08That being pointed out, it's not where it's better for him.
10:11Better for him is playing.
10:13I don't know where people got the idea that it was better for him.
10:15What I thought, what I just said this.
10:17Like, Jonathan attacked that the other day, and I'm like, yeah, I agree with that.
10:19I hope he doesn't think we're saying it.
10:21Well, let me explain it better because I said I think it might be more advantageous for him to start
10:28the season on the bench to allow the offensive line to gel, to allow all the young skill position players.
10:33It can be advantageous for him.
10:34Because I know what's going to happen.
10:35Because the reason I'm jumping to that conclusion, and I get why a lot of people would find it counterintuitive.
10:42You know, you want guys in their second year to start right off the bat.
10:45But the reason is, I can already hear the excuses.
10:49The excuse-making machine that is some of the Shador fans will immediately say, if he struggles out of the
10:56gates, new offensive line.
10:58I mean, come on.
10:59They can't be expected to gel right away.
11:01Wait a second.
11:02Rookie wide receivers.
11:03We're targeting rookie wide receivers?
11:05Of course they're not going to be ready to go from day one.
11:08You say they're excuses, but what if it ends up being true?
11:11Well, it is.
11:12I mean, that is.
11:13Young players, you know, tend to struggle out of the gates.
11:18And offensive lines tend to take time to gel.
11:21But, you know, when all is said and done.
11:23Like, you know, when we talk about Tim Couch's struggles as a young player.
11:28We talk about the expansion team.
11:30Expansion Browns.
11:31Chris Palmer, the head coach.
11:32This team was terrible.
11:34They set up the Browns to fail.
11:35All of that is true.
11:37Just like, yes, the four-person quarterback derby last year did not help Shador.
11:43Didn't help anybody.
11:44I think we lean on something.
11:46Like, you can't tell me all.
11:47Like, I've never heard a Shador fan actually admit that their quarterback wasn't that good last year.
11:52I just haven't heard one of them admit it.
11:54They jump to the excuses, which a lot of them are true.
11:59Excuses can also be justifications.
12:01But I just know that that's what's going to be said if he struggles out of the gates if he
12:05wins a starting job.
12:06Good old football conversations brought to you on The Fan.
12:08And it's presented by Xfinity.
12:11Score the most reliable Wi-Fi.
12:12One price, five years.
12:13It's guaranteed.
12:14Xfinity.
12:15Imagine that.
12:16I think it's something that could be acceptable.
12:19Because the way you put it, you've always put it in a different way than I would.
12:22I try to have a better bedside manner about these things.
12:24Try to be a little bit nicer about it.
12:26But it's disappointing.
12:28I don't want it to happen that he sits, if he sits at the beginning of the year.
12:31I want him to start.
12:33We want him to start.
12:34It's an official show stance, I think.
12:35Because we're going to wonder what it means.
12:36Why isn't he the starter?
12:38I have to make, it's up to him and it's up to the Browns.
12:41But it's really up to Shador to make the best of a tough situation there.
12:44Because obviously he wants to start.
12:46But then we looked at it.
12:47You're right.
12:48The offensive line, which you have five new pieces in, could very well struggle.
12:52So that would be an advantage maybe to the veteran.
12:54So you give them time.
12:56That's it.
12:58I'm just not going to meet anybody on it's better for Shador to sit.
13:02And if anybody said that, I think that they're wrong.
13:06I think that he should, I want him to start.
13:08But I only want him to start if he's ready.
13:10If he's not ready, then fine.
13:11I'll wait.
13:12And I don't care about the whole argument of it.
13:14Of, well, Ken, if he's not ready, then when is he ever going to be ready?
13:17Maybe he'll be ready week four.
13:18Or maybe we're just looking at a career backup.
13:20Maybe we always have to admit something like that in the back of our heads.
13:22I mean, we look forward to things for a reason.
13:25When he's ready to play, and I hope he's ready to play week one, I want him to have a
13:30good,
13:30fair shot at it because I want the bronze to be able to win.
13:32And I do think that you can take advantage, not that it's better for him, but you can take
13:38advantage with the right attitude and effort to look at it and slow the game down from
13:43the sidelines.
13:44Know what people are throwing at you.
13:46Know the challenges what your offensive line is going to give you.
13:48Know what challenges your new rookie wide receivers are going to give you because
13:51they're still rookies.
13:52The route tree is going to be a little bit different.
13:55The reading coverages as a wide receiver is going to be a little bit different because
13:59they shade it better in the NFL than what they're able to do it in college.
14:02So some of that's going to take a little bit of time.
14:04Hopefully he can take advantage of that when, not if, when he gets his chance.
14:08And that's going to be sooner than later.
14:10Yeah, I can't wait.
14:11Honestly, I know, what was it?
14:13Was it Jeremy Fowler that said this is like the quarterback competition, the most legitimate
14:19actual quarterback competition there is.
14:21I am excited about it.
14:22And I want to see what it looks like when they're actually wearing real uniforms and pads and
14:28jerseys and guys can hit a little bit.
14:30Cool Ray in Bedford.
14:32You're next up on the fan.
14:33Hello, Cool Ray.
14:34Hey, good morning, fellas.
14:36First, let me get this out.
14:37You, I mean, Lima, you and Mary Kaye are the reason why people on National Media is saying
14:43you guys are Shedora Bashers.
14:46First, let's hit Mary Kaye.
14:47What?
14:48I never really agree with all her.
14:49I'm going to get this.
14:51First, with Mary Kaye.
14:52I've never really agreed with all her takes.
14:55But to give Deshaun Watson credit for coming to Cleveland, coming back to Cleveland or doing
15:01whatever he did, bringing his quarterback coach and therapist and all that, whoever he
15:05brought back, you don't give credit to that.
15:08That's not the time to do it right now.
15:10It was to do it when the Browns announced their head coach, like Shedora.
15:14I'm a Shedora fan.
15:15But when you want to, just like you got a new job, you want to press your new boss,
15:19you show up, you do the work then.
15:22Don't come in now after you done had OTAs or minicamp or whatever it is y'all just did
15:27and you see what you was up against and now you're running scared.
15:30That's what it sounds like to me.
15:31Now you know you got to step your game up.
15:33That's what it sounds like to me.
15:34I wasn't there.
15:34I didn't see any coaches.
15:35That's an interesting interpretation.
15:37Oh, can I tell you real quick?
15:38The reason he's getting, you're right.
15:41Nobody should really get credit for that.
15:43You're trying to win a job.
15:43I mean, I made that joke right after, yeah.
15:45I got to agree with Cool Red.
15:46The reason he's getting credit is because the guy was MIA the first chance he got once
15:52he got injured.
15:53Remember, we kept comparing him to Dak Prescott.
15:55Dak Prescott was hobbling around to go to the Cowboy games.
15:58Meanwhile, Deshaun's like, see ya.
16:01I'm in Miami.
16:01You guys have fun up there.
16:03Enjoy the cold.
16:03All that being true, but the time to get flowers was to meet the new head coach of what Shador
16:08did.
16:09Before the office was unpacked, Shador showed up.
16:12That's what you do.
16:13Because he ain't no dummy.
16:14He knows he has to earn that one way or the other, and everything's going to help.
16:19Lima, you just said it's best for Shador to sit.
16:24Or you said you never heard a Shador fan say he was bad.
16:28Actually, yeah.
16:29He was not a good quarterback last year.
16:30Here it is.
16:32I'm a huge Shador fan.
16:33He was horrible last year.
16:34But you cannot discredit why he was horrible.
16:37That's what you guys are doing.
16:39Now, if he comes in and he looks bad, remember, all Shador fans kept saying was, give him a
16:44fair shot.
16:45Let him run with the number ones.
16:47Let him have a full training camp.
16:48He got that now.
16:50So if he comes in and looks bad, and then it's the second thing you guys are, y'all guys
16:55are just glancing over.
16:56Remember, you, Lima, were so scared to call this a rebuild when we called it a rebuild.
17:02No, no, no, no.
17:03It's not a rebuild.
17:05The Browns fans accepted this is a rebuild.
17:07But if he comes in and looks bad, if he looks bad, not the offensive line, not the receivers,
17:12but if he looks bad himself, then we know what we have.
17:16Then you sit him down.
17:17Then you put Deshaun Watson in.
17:19No arguments.
17:20Because everybody, he got his full training camp.
17:23He got his full practice.
17:24He got his full preseason.
17:25Ray, I don't remember, I don't remember Tone saying that.
17:27I swear to God.
17:30You said what now?
17:31I don't remember Tone saying that he, or not saying it was a rebuild.
17:36Not being willing to say it was a rebuild.
17:38The fastest year, I called and I was like, it's a rebuild.
17:40He was like, no, it's not a rebuild.
17:41It's a retool.
17:42Y'all kept calling it a retool or whatever it was.
17:44Yeah.
17:45Yeah.
17:45Honestly, I kind of do remember going over the semantics of it.
17:50But now we know what it is.
17:52And by the way, if Shador struggles, I'm going to point out, just as I did last year, he had
18:00a lot of terrible things around him.
18:02Everything.
18:02The coaching, the line, everything.
18:05I also think he also ran himself into sacks.
18:08That was part of it.
18:09A lot of rookies do.
18:10So that, that, that wasn't some big, big, um, you know, mystery.
18:15Yeah.
18:16I'm not, I'm not crushing sure.
18:18Like he doesn't belong in the NFL.
18:19I saw some good things from him.
18:21I was just saying that it's got to be way better because part of it is, and people don't like
18:27when I say this, he wasn't a first round pick.
18:30If first round picks get more opportunity than a fifth round pick.
18:34That's just how the league works.
18:35I mean, I've bagged on you and I've kind of laughed at some of the things that people have made
18:38jokes.
18:38So I mean, someone saying you had dolphin teeth yesterday was hilarious.
18:41Let's say it.
18:43But if, if it were that good, Deshaun wouldn't be in the conversation.
18:47They don't want to upset you.
18:49I don't like the conversation or what to sell to the fans.
18:51Cause what can you sell?
18:52We're going into a year.
18:53You just trade away miles Garrett.
18:54And I got people on the line who want to trade away Denzel Ward.
18:58Literally guys, it ain't about selling.
19:02It's a, it's about who you want to see.
19:04The fans definitely want to see Shador Sanders over Deshaun Watson.
19:07I would say the bulk, not everybody, but I would say the vast majority of them want to see Shador
19:11Sanders over Deshaun Watson.
19:13If, if it were very, very good, he wouldn't be in the conversation.
19:17He would just stand on the sidelines, but it is in the conversation.
19:21So now the challenge is ahead of Shador Sanders.
19:24Hopefully he rises to that, that occasion coming up in five minutes.
19:29I said, I was going to do this at this segment.
19:30We've got plenty of people wanting to get in on this.
19:33We're not going to be fair to anybody until LeBron hangs them up because there's a weird conversation going on
19:40about Donovan.
