In a horrific road accident in Hyderabad’s Madhapur area, a 22-year-old woman was killed while her husband sustained grievous injuries after a DCM vehicle hit their scooty and dragged it for nearly a kilometre.

The deceased, Haniya Ayesha, was riding with her husband Abdul Basit (26) when the incident occurred late Saturday night (4 April 2026) near Mindspace in the IT hub.

According to police, the vehicle rammed into their scooty, causing Basit to fall aside, while Ayesha, along with the vehicle, was dragged for about a kilometre. Passersby chased the DCM and managed to stop it, but the driver fled the scene. The cleaner was caught by locals, thrashed, and later handed over to the police.

Both victims were rushed to AIG Hospital, where doctors declared Ayesha brought dead. Basit is currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

The couple, originally from Kerala, worked at a Malabar Gold store and were returning home to Maheshwaram after watching a movie in Kukatpally.

Madhapur Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the absconding driver. The vehicle involved is reportedly registered in Karnataka.
