In a tragic accident in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, nine members of a single family, including six children, lost their lives after their car fell into a water-filled well late Friday night (03 Feb 2026).

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm in Dindori taluka, nearly 40 km from Nashik, when the family was returning home after attending a function in Shivajinagar. The vehicle, driven by Sunil Dattatreya Dargode (34), reportedly went out of control and veered off the road before plunging into a nearby well.

Due to the well being completely filled with water, rescue operations proved extremely challenging. Police, fire brigade, disaster response teams, and later NDRF personnel were deployed. The car was eventually pulled out using cranes after several hours.

Nine bodies were recovered from the vehicle, while a search operation was also carried out for another girl who was reportedly thrown out during the accident and submerged in the water.

The deceased include Sunil, his wife Reshma (30), their daughter Rakhi alias Gunvanti (10), along with nieces Madhuri (13) and Shravani (11). Other victims include Asha Anil Dargode (32), her children Shreyash (11) and Srishti (14), and niece Samruddhi (7).

All victims belonged to the same extended family, deepening the scale of the tragedy.

Eyewitnesses described emotional scenes at the site, with several children still dressed in function attire as their bodies were recovered.

Dindori Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the accident may have been caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle.
