The convoy of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was allegedly blocked and a member of his security team assaulted in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Friday.

The incident occurred near Thiruvalli Chellithodu bridge when the Thiruvananthapuram MP was en route to an election campaign event in Wandoor. A video from the spot showed a group of men surrounding his vehicle and raising slogans.

Confirming the incident on X, Tharoor said his security guard was attacked but is now safe, while he remained unharmed. He added that despite the disruption, the convoy continued and he went on to complete two scheduled campaign events.

Following a complaint by the security personnel, Wandoor Police registered a case, detained three individuals, and seized two vehicles. A non-bailable case has been filed against one accused, identified as Ummara, a resident of Kalikavu.

Kerala is set to go to polls in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.
