Panic gripped residents of Kuppugodu village in Belur taluk of Hassan after a lone wild elephant went on a rampage early in the morning.

According to locals, the elephant strayed into the village and approached the house of a resident, Krishnappa, where it attacked an auto-rickshaw parked nearby. In a dramatic sequence captured on mobile phones, the animal was seen lifting and tossing the vehicle, causing heavy damage.

The sudden intrusion left Krishnappa’s family and nearby residents terrified as the elephant displayed aggressive behaviour.

After the incident, the elephant reportedly moved into a nearby plantation, continuing to trumpet loudly and creating fear in the surrounding area.

Forest officials are expected to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of villagers.
