“Peace Talks Turn Bloodshed!” Love Marriage Row Sparks Violent Clash in Chitradurga

A dispute over a love marriage in Bharamasagara village of Karnataka’s Chitradurga district turned violent after a peace meeting between two families escalated into a physical clash, leaving several people injured.

The conflict centres around Bhavana of Bharamasagara and Teertheshwara Naik from Bevinahalli, who registered their marriage on February 8 despite strong opposition from their families. The couple are related, which further intensified tensions.

According to reports, relations between the families had been strained since the wedding. The situation worsened after allegations of religious conversion were levelled against Teertheshwara Naik, adding to the ongoing dispute.

In an attempt to resolve the matter, a meeting was organised, but it soon turned into a heated argument and then a violent confrontation. During the clash, Bhavana’s grand-uncle, Mallesh Naik, along with two others, was allegedly assaulted and is currently undergoing treatment at Chitradurga District Hospital.

Teertheshwara Naik’s family has also claimed that they were attacked, with both sides accusing each other, complicating the case further. A video allegedly showing the assault has gone viral, fuelling public debate. Reports suggesting the incident occurred in the presence of police have added to the controversy.

Police from Bharamasagara station reached the spot, brought the situation under control, and deployed additional personnel to maintain law and order. Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway and assured that action will be taken against those responsible.

The village remains tense as authorities continue efforts to defuse the situation.
