A controversy erupted after the death of an Anganwadi worker in Uttar Pradesh, when a viral video recorded inside an ambulance alleged official harassment. However, an inquiry ordered by the administration has found the claims to be unsubstantiated.

The deceased, Preeti, a resident of Sadar area, was working as an Anganwadi worker and was also deployed as a Booth Level Officer (BLO). According to family members, she had been unwell for several days and was initially admitted to a private hospital. As her condition worsened, she was being shifted to Lucknow for advanced treatment but died en route near Sitapur.

During the journey, her daughter Smita recorded a video alleging that District Programme Officer Arvind Kumar and a municipal clerk had harassed her mother. She claimed that Preeti had not received her salary for four months and was still being pressured to work, which allegedly worsened her health.

The video quickly went viral, prompting District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh to take cognisance and order a probe by the city magistrate.

However, the inquiry report submitted by City Magistrate Praveen Singh reportedly found the allegations to be baseless. Officials stated that salary payments had already been credited to all Anganwadi workers, including Preeti, by March 16, and records were available to support this.

District Programme Officer Arvind Kumar denied all allegations, asserting that no harassment had taken place and that the claims were completely false.

Notably, the family neither filed a formal complaint nor conducted a post-mortem examination.

The district administration has assured that all aspects of the case were examined and that necessary support would be extended to the family.
