A day after their wedding on March 29, a dispute between a newlywed couple in Bilaspur’s Laxminagar locality of Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh, escalated into violence involving both families.

According to reports, Kanhaiya (22) from Rampur had married Gulab from Kichha in Uttarakhand. On the wedding night, an argument broke out after the bride allegedly refused physical contact. The situation escalated, and the groom claimed he was slapped by the bride, prompting family members to intervene.

The matter intensified the next day during a panchayat convened to resolve the dispute. During the meeting, tensions flared, and members of the bride’s family allegedly assaulted the groom, hitting him on the head with a brick and leaving him seriously injured. He was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.

In a second panchayat held later in the evening, the bride reportedly refused to continue the marriage. Following discussions, both families reached a written settlement. The bride returned to her parental home in Uttarakhand, and police confirmed that no further legal action was taken after recording statements from both sides.

The incident has raised concerns over rising cases of disputes turning violent within hours of marriage.
