00:00We do have a new Miles Garrett.
00:03I don't know if this is a report.
00:05I said report.
00:06This could be conjecture.
00:08Manish Mehta, who is on the Between the Tackles podcast,
00:12formerly of several New York publications,
00:16he has a team in mind for Miles Garrett.
00:19And this one makes a lot of sense.
00:21I think that Howie Roseman, who loves to be creative
00:24and who I know has wanted Miles Garrett in the past, who wouldn't?
00:29I think that the Eagles, frankly, would be smart to make a move,
00:32make a deal for him.
00:34They just made a deal during the draft for Jonathan Grenard from the Vikings.
00:38They got a little edge help there.
00:40They've got Jalex Hunt.
00:41They could use more help.
00:42And getting Miles Garrett, I think, would make a lot of sense for a lot of teams.
00:46But I'm very intrigued by Howie Roseman
00:48and just kind of how he operates in the shadows and loves making a big splash.
00:53So maybe the Eagles are a team that would make a play for him.
00:57The Eagles have plenty of draft picks.
00:59So I don't think draft pick compensation would be a massive hurdle for them,
01:02even though you'll have to give up premium capital.
01:04So I think what's interesting about this is
01:06the Eagles already have a fair amount of draft capital
01:10for the way that they do business,
01:11but they're about to pick up more in an A.J. Brown trade.
01:15And so it would make a lot of sense to me
01:17if A.J. Brown subtracted,
01:19or if Howie Roseman subtracting A.J. Brown June 2nd,
01:24turned around and took whatever picks he gets
01:26or pick he gets from New England
01:28and package that with a couple more picks
01:30and try to make a run at Miles Garrett.
01:31Yeah, the fight right now in the A.J. Brown discussion
01:33is apparently over whether or not he's getting a first-round pick.
01:35And so let's just assume he gets the first-round pick
01:38because I think ultimately that's what that's going to end up being.
01:40Real quick, can we all agree that the handling of this,
01:43the reporters carrying water for the league office
01:45to make it look like,
01:46oh, that could not be a deal.
01:48They're actually not very close.
01:50It's like, this has been reported for six weeks.
01:52This is all just window dressing, right?
01:54I think so.
01:55It's odd, though.
01:56You're right to suggest that the whole thing is odd.
01:58I heard somebody earlier today
01:59even trying to figure out if A.J. Brown could go to different teams
02:03and how that would look.
02:04Oh, they put him with the Rams.
02:06And it was like a whole segment built around A.J. Brown to the Rams.
02:09It's like, do we have to do this right now?
02:10I'm pretty sure.
02:11I mean, right now you can do whatever you want.
02:13It's offseason.
02:14Go for it.
02:14But I'm pretty sure we know where he's ending up.
02:16Boston-based journalist Greg Bedard said the other day
02:19that the NFL has actually asked the Eagles
02:23to not do it immediately on June 2nd.
02:27And it's like, why do you care?
02:29I don't understand.
02:31This isn't collusion.
02:32These teams agreed to it,
02:34but you can't execute the trade until June 2nd.
02:37So nothing's in writing.
02:38You can still back out, technically.
02:40You can still back out.
02:41But I think my point is,
02:43they're trying to sell this fight of,
02:45oh, well, I guess it's not really going to happen that first day.
02:48It's like, why do you care?
02:48It's legal.
02:50It's not like,
02:51it actually bugs me just the way the NFL media has turned it into,
02:56wow, now there could be other teams that might be interested.
02:59I tend to agree with the guy who I never like to agree with,
03:03Mike Florio.
03:03If there was another team here,
03:05we would have heard about it several weeks ago.
03:07I like Florio.
03:08I know you don't like Florio.
03:09Other Florio, he's been a little odd lately.
03:12He's just the could guy.
03:13You can just get a lot done under the banner of could.
03:16And that's just why I find him annoying.
03:19Because he just kind of makes,
03:20I don't want to say make stuff up.
03:21He makes stuff up.
03:22He dreams it up.
03:23And then he goes,
03:24could.
03:25Well, could happen.
03:26Yeah, thanks.
03:28Yeah.
03:28Any one of us could make a whole career out of could.
03:32Maybe we should have.
03:33Yeah, that's true.
03:34We in many ways do in sports radio.
03:36There's a lot of could in sports radio.
03:38Yeah, but we don't masquerade as a journalist.
03:40Maybe that's the part of me that appreciates Florio,
03:42is he's basically the only writer that kind of lives life like a sports radio host,
03:46where he just plays into the could world,
03:48and he plays into the hypothetical world
03:50in a way that no other actual journalists ever do.
03:54That bugs me.
03:55Now, this being said,
03:56He's one of us.
03:57The Eagles make a lot of sense.
03:58If for no other reason,
04:00Howie Roseman and Andrew Barry and Aaron Barry are pretty tight.
04:03But the Barry connection is what I find so intriguing by this.
04:07Which is probably the one reason I don't want it.
04:09But do you feel like Aaron is helping out Andrew,
04:14or Andrew's helping out Aaron?
04:15Well, Andrew might be.
04:16The interesting part about the Miles Garrett discussion
04:18is that it does feel like both sides are going to win,
04:20because if it's all about timelines,
04:22and that's truthfully what this is,
04:24then no one should feel bad about how a Miles Garrett trade goes down.
04:28I just think if, let's say,
04:30the Miles Garrett trade goes really well for Philadelphia,
04:35it doesn't go well for you,
04:36and let's say you have a three-win season,
04:37and a year from now, you've got a new GM,
04:40where do I think Andrew Barry's going to go back to?
04:42He's going to go to Philadelphia.
04:43There's no question.
04:44And so there's a part of that where I'm like,
04:45wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:46You're just...
04:47Because Howie Roseman's going to be like,
04:48hey, this guy gave me Miles Garrett.
04:52I've got to hook this guy up with a job.
04:55It's kind of that little...
04:57Dealing with your friends makes me uncomfortable in the NFL,
04:59because you never know if you're getting an honest price.
05:01So I like dealing with, maybe not friends necessarily,
05:04because who's your friend in the NFL,
05:05but when you're dealing with your brother, for instance,
05:07I like the idea of the understanding
05:11that no one's screwing over anybody here.
05:13Oh, if I'm going to cut anyone a deal,
05:14it's one of my brothers.
05:16Well, no, for sure.
05:17You can always cut your brother a deal,
05:19but in this scenario, I don't think he's giving...
05:21I don't think he'd give Miles Garrett a discounted price
05:24because it's his brother.
05:25I feel like they'd do it with the idea of like,
05:27all right, you get better.
05:28I also get what I wanted,
05:29which is picks out of this whole ordeal.
05:31And if the difference is the same thing,
05:34if I send him to the Rams,
05:35then I'm going to send him to my brother
05:36because I feel good about that.
05:38By the way, there's another part I don't really like
05:39about the Philly thing,
05:41is I just...
05:42They've had enough success recently.
05:44And it feels like their window's kind of closing.
05:46I know it's never going to close
05:48because Harry Roseman does a good job of building teams.
05:50It's a little element of it.
05:51They've had success, but it's like the funniest team
05:53in the world because they never act like it.
05:54Yeah, well, and that's...
05:56Her team that won the Super Bowl two years ago,
05:58they act as if they're like a poverty franchise.
06:00And Jalen Hurts stinks at football,
06:01and Sirianni's a dodo,
06:03and Big Dom is the only person that matters
06:05in that building.
06:05It's a weird setup.
06:07But subtracting A.J. Brown
06:11because he's dramatic
06:12and then trading for Myles Garrett, though,
06:15would be legitimately hilarious.
06:17Somebody who I think...
06:18They've got to learn that lesson themselves, though.
06:19That's part of this process.
06:21And Aaron should know everything about the idea
06:25that Andrew would tell him.
06:26Like, yeah, listen, Myles is not going to be...
06:29He's not going to be the world's greatest leader,
06:30which, by the way, the Eagles have never had anyway.
06:33Part of what actually works for Myles,
06:35if you're in this,
06:35no one expects you to be a leader
06:37because, again,
06:38no one in Philadelphia on this team is a leader.
06:40They don't...
06:41They just expect production.
06:43Like, Jalen Carter does all sorts of things
06:45that are questionable,
06:46and they just don't care.
06:47It's all about production there.
06:48That's actually the funniest part
06:49about a hypothetical Eagles trade
06:52is Jalen Carter could be part of the return for him.
06:56And I just think, like,
06:58Miles Garrett for Jalen Carter
06:59just feels like a dubious trade
07:01with, obviously, picks being thrown in there.
07:03So those are kind of my reservations.
07:05So the Eagles aren't off the board for me,
07:08but I have more reservations,
07:10kind of like...
07:10And by the way,
07:11they're all kind of circumstantial.
07:12Like, my reservations about sending him to Tampa Bay
07:17are it's like,
07:18oh, they already got Baker Mayfield for free,
07:21and now you're going to get Miles Garrett.
07:23Well, those two, I just don't think,
07:24would ever work together.
07:25I feel like that...
07:25Oh, I bet you things change.
07:26That would be a no-trade clause situation for Miles.
07:29Miles got the no-trade clause,
07:31so he can make sure I don't play for Baker.
07:32I would be surprised,
07:34because that's such an easier road.
07:37Not only do I think the AFC is tougher than the NFC.
07:40But there's three different NFC teams we can bring up
07:42that I think are Super Bowl competitive
07:45and better than the Buccaneers, right?
07:48Rams, Eagles, Bears.
07:50Mm-hmm.
07:51Those are the ones.
07:52In fact, if I'm Miles,
07:53I'm like, give me either one of those three.
07:55You work out the deal.
07:56You work out the kinks.
07:57Whatever you need to do.
07:58I'm not going to play for Baker, though.
08:00There's more than enough suitors.
08:02I get to be picky here.
08:03I still think the Rams make the most amount of sense,
08:05because they can give you a young player or two
08:09and picks,
08:10whereas I don't think the Eagles are going to give up
08:12Jalick's hunt as part of that deal.
08:15The Jalen Carter thing makes sense,
08:16but then you've got to pay Jalen Carter.
08:18And I know if you know this,
08:19Jalen Carter,
08:21problematic human being,
08:22in a way that makes Miles Garrett
08:23look like the Pope, I guess?
08:27In a history of bad car accidents
08:31slash things that have happened in cars,
08:33his is worse than anything Miles has ever done.
08:35It's not great.
08:36And even Tampa Bay,
08:37I don't know what young player he'd send back.
08:39I do think that's a part of this, though.
08:40Like, so much of where I would be comfortable
08:43sending Miles.
08:44And again, my official line,
08:46because I want to make sure this isn't
08:47every time we talk about it.
08:48Yeah.
08:48I wouldn't.
08:50I just think Miles is an all-time great player,
08:53and with those players,
08:55timelines be damned.
08:57One, I think the Browns could be better
08:59than people think this year.
09:00I know it relies on a quarterback position
09:02none of us trust,
09:03but I still think they can be better
09:04than people expect.
09:062027 isn't that far away,
09:08and so do you need a little luck
09:10or do you need to make a big swing next year
09:11to trade up for a quarterback?
09:12Potentially.
09:14But I just,
09:14I don't look at it as the easy quid pro quo,
09:17well, Miles is going to turn
09:18to that quarterback next year
09:20because wherever I send Miles,
09:21I'm going to get the 32nd pick
09:23or the 26th pick,
09:24which has value in a trade-up scenario,
09:28but it's still, like,
09:29the idea that it's just, boom,
09:31you trade Miles and get a quarterback
09:32still relies on a lot of luck
09:34or a lot of the right things falling your way.
09:36The part I find interesting
09:37and the part that I can't escape is,
09:39and listen, I would trade him,
09:41but the only part I'd be worried about
09:43would come back and bite me in the butt in this.
09:46Miles is just built different,
09:48and so there is a world that exists
09:50where because Miles is just this freak athlete
09:52and is just so different than everybody else
09:54that at 35, he's still just awesome,
09:56and so then you would have looked back
09:57and been like, oh, for five years,
09:59we just watched him be awesome
10:00and dominate the league,
10:01and oh, we really could have used
10:02somebody that would be this great of a pass rusher,
10:05but we sent him three years ago
10:06for a boatload of picks,
10:07and I just, I don't know how much of that
10:09the Browns are accounting for,
10:12but it's part that I would be,
10:14at least I hope they would.
10:15I just don't know that they are.
10:16I mean, I understand if everyone around the NFL
10:20thinks of the Von Miller trade
10:21where the Broncos were at the end
10:24of their competitive window,
10:26they were about to, you know,
10:27reality hit them in the face,
10:28and they waited too long to trade Von Miller,
10:30they still got, I think,
10:31second or third round pick for him,
10:32but compared to where Von Miller's value
10:36would have been before he tore his Achilles,
10:38it was night and day.
10:39Get that.
10:40I'm not as slavish to the idea of value
10:44when it comes to generational players
10:46that have just done what Miles has done,
10:49but I think if you're going to do it,
10:52this does feel like the logical point,
10:54so then this needs to be your Stafford deal.
10:57This needs to be a trade where we look up,
10:59and to harken back to something you said
11:01earlier in the segment,
11:03I need it to be,
11:04yep, it worked out for whoever you traded him to.
11:06They won their Super Bowl,
11:07or they got to their Super Bowl,
11:09whatever it is,
11:10but then whatever you got,
11:11all of us are looking at it going,
11:13well, it's not Miles Garrett,
11:15but it's pretty damn close.
11:16Yeah, I mean,
11:16because on that Lyon side of things,
11:19everyone talks about the Rams
11:20and them winning the Super Bowl,
11:21but the Lyons,
11:22not only the Jared Goff part of it
11:23because he was a throw-in,
11:24but that's what ended up freeing up everything.
11:26That's them getting Jameer Gibbs
11:27and Hutchinson
11:28and Amon Ross St. Brown.
11:30Like, it was all about stockpiling those picks
11:32and having the ammo to go after it and do it.
