00:00In your first place, Texas Rangers would win that game.
00:03They are now 4-1, off to their best start since 2012.
00:08And I know people want us to combine these segments for baseball nuggets and gravy.
00:13Now, I do have two different sponsors, so I might not be able to do that.
00:17So let's start with nuggets, brought to you by Reliant Air Conditioning.
00:23And we start with the important question of the day that Corey posed.
00:27Is Shohei good?
00:28Now, Shohei gave up one hole hit over six innings pitching yesterday.
00:34Remember, we told you everyone in that organization says he really wants to win the Cy Young.
00:40He has now gone 22 and two-thirds innings pitched in the regular season since he last gave up a
00:47run.
00:47Jeez Louise, dude.
00:48So, there's that.
00:50On the opposite side, there's Bo Bichette.
00:53Bo Bichette, remember, he was like, I'm surprised it took him so long to boo.
00:57Me too.
00:58So far, as a Met, Bo Bichette is 2-for-22 with eight strikeouts.
01:03Should he go to the plate and just start giving a thumbs down when he walks up?
01:07And just let the Mets fans know, I'm not talking about y'all.
01:11I'm talking about boo this guy.
01:13Boo me.
01:14Oh, yeah.
01:14Just thumbs down immediately.
01:16Maybe that'll lighten it up a little bit.
01:17Because they'll think he's talking to them.
01:20Oh, yeah.
01:20But he needs to let them know immediately.
01:22I'm talking about me.
01:23Okay.
01:24Boo.
01:25And then they'll be like, gosh.
01:27You know what?
01:28That guy's got a sense of humor.
01:30And then he crushes one.
01:32That's a good question.
01:33All right.
01:34Now, let's talk about the polarizing teams of 2026.
01:38This is something that ESPN put out in terms of the biggest gap in the high-low power rankings.
01:45Boston Red Sox, high of 3, low of 13.
01:49Milwaukee Brewers, high of 5, low of 16.
01:53The Houston Astros, high of 9, low of 19.
01:58The Cincinnati Reds, high of 13, low of 24.
02:02And the Pittsburgh Pirates, high of 13, also a low of 24, which is pure foolishness.
02:09The Pirates are going to be just fine, even though they have started out the season 2-3.
02:15But guess what?
02:16Today's a Wednesday, and Paul Skeens is pitching.
02:19Don't worry about what happened in that first game.
02:21Usually when Paul Skeens pitches, they win.
02:24And the Pirates were incredible on Wednesdays last year.
02:27But that was last year, Kevin.
02:28That's true.
02:29This year's a new year.
02:30You just told me earlier, every day is a new day.
02:32That's true.
02:32Yes, it is.
02:33And Paul Skeens has an ERA above 67.
02:36I believe it's 67.5.
02:38Is that higher than Kyle Gibson's was?
02:40No, Kyle Gibson's was twice that high.
02:42It was 135.
02:44I love Kyle Gibson.
02:46He had so much fun with that whole bit that I wanted to bring it back up.
02:50You knew Kyle Gibson was going to fit in when he goes,
02:52but I also had the biggest drop in ERA in the history of Major League Baseball, I was told.
02:59And we found out he dropped his ERA 127.89 points.
03:03He still got paid that week, too.
03:05He did.
03:05That was the biggest thing.
03:06So let's talk about the New York Yankees.
03:11The New York Yankees are off to a historical pace as well.
03:15By the way, the Blue Jays, Yankees, the Marlins, the Brewers, and the Dodgers are all tied with the Texas
03:23Rangers for the best record in all of baseball.
03:27Well, good for them.
03:28Hell yeah.
03:29Chasing the Rangers.
03:30Yeah, exactly.
03:31But here's the reason they've started out so incredibly.
03:34In their first five games, they've given up three runs total.
03:41That is tied with the 1943 Cardinals for the fewest given up by a team in their first five games.
03:50It feels like there's a lot of pressure to be able to match that, right?
03:56I mean, it does.
03:57You know that they're good.
03:58You know you have to deal with their pitching, and then you have to try and match that.
04:01That's not fun.
04:02Okay, well, to be fair, you know, it's really ironic and kind of fun about all of this.
04:07That St. Louis Cardinals team, they went to the World Series, where they lost to the Yankees.
04:12Oh, wow.
04:13So, does that mean it's revenge this year and the Cardinals will get theirs back?
04:17I don't know about that.
04:18Let's talk about how much money MLB, the Players Association, has saved up.
04:23In case there is a lockout or a work stoppage, which we all think there will be,
04:28how much money do you think the Players Association has saved up to perhaps help their players keep the line?
04:35$1,300.
04:37That would be low.
04:38That would be great for a person.
04:40But they have $415 million saved up.
04:45And how many baseball players?
04:48Let's just assume 53-man rosters.
04:51That is too high, so wouldn't you say $780?
04:55That's a lot of money.
04:56What about these minor leaguers?
04:57Are they going to be paid?
04:58And that is a good point.
04:59You have to factor that in as well.
05:02So, part of what a lot of baseball players did was they held off on taking their licensing checks in
05:092024.
05:10Because there's like a group licensing check, and they held on to that, the players agreed,
05:17so those funds could be delivered in case there was a lockout.
05:21Because we've known this was probably coming for a while.
05:23This is why Mike Bassick said that the Players Union is the strongest on the planet.
05:28They're smart.
05:29They thought ahead this way, and instead of saying,
05:33Hey, guys, I need that money, they said,
05:37We're going to save it for a rainy day.
05:39And we're all together on this because we understand what we have to sacrifice in order to get what we
05:44want.
05:44And sometimes you have to sacrifice a little bit for the people that you love.
05:49Yeah, look, I think you're definitely right about that.
05:54Now, I want to talk real quick about the San Francisco Giants.
05:58They are 2-3 to start the season.
06:00But history says they are already done.
06:05What?
06:06Done.
06:08So the Giants became only the 10th team in Major League Baseball history to start the season 0-3
06:17while not scoring more than one run.
06:19Dude, it was against the team that's only given up three runs this year.
06:23You're right.
06:24Funny how that works together.
06:25But, hey, I can't control the factors.
06:29I can just tell you the history.
06:31Okay.
06:32All right?
06:32Because if you don't know the history, you're doomed to repeat it.
06:34So the history is...
06:36They're done.
06:37The Giants are done, and the Yankees are going to lose the World Series to the Cardinals.
06:41Correct.
06:41We need to keep track of this.
06:43Try to act surprised as these things play out, Alec.
06:47Just to be like, Oh, wow, I can't believe it.
06:49So, for the previous nine teams that started this way, six of them finished the season below .500.
06:56One of them finished the season at .500.
06:58Two of them finished above .500, but none of them, but neither one of those teams made the playoffs,
07:03which means the last nine times this has happened, none of those teams made the playoffs.
07:08So, San Francisco Giants, per, you know, ticket rules and everything, you should probably keep playing,
07:13but you should know that your season is over.
07:16If they didn't play...
07:18I feel like that would be problematic.
07:20...season tickets, do they just keep the money?
07:23I feel like you'd have to give that money back.
07:24Probably so.
07:25There would be an amazing lawsuit and everything like that.
07:28I'm putting this on the wall of takes, even though it's not a take.
07:31Okay.
07:32That's history's take.
07:33Yeah, you're saying this is history's take.
07:35Now, it's time, powered by Men's Tea Clinic.
07:40I told you, you're going to cram multiple segments into every segment.
07:43To go around the entire NFL and dip into some gridiron gravy.
07:48Nope.
07:50Dippin' ripin'.
07:51So, there is an article talking about the best fits for the top teams in the draft.
08:01And I know we've talked a lot about Jermaud McCoy, but what I thought was really interesting
08:07is ESPN said that they believe the best player fit for the Cowboys is Colton Hood.
08:16And I wanted to talk some more about Colton Hood, because we end up getting stuck on McCoy so much.
08:21But Colton Hood, going back as somebody that y'all broke down, what do you think about Colton Hood?
08:26I liked him a lot.
08:28Let me look at my notes real quick, because then I can establish exactly what I felt about him.
08:33But I felt like he was very sticky.
08:35We use that term a lot, and that means whenever a wide receiver moves, he moves with him.
08:41And I felt like he had cover speed very strong up top.
08:45That's very important, because he does a very good job at the line and press coverage.
08:50So, he's one of those guys that I liked.
08:52And then as I watched some other cornerbacks, I was like, I kind of like them more.
08:56And so, that kind of helped me make my decision on where I felt he landed.
09:02But he's the kind of player that I liked.
09:04Now, let's go from that to, there are going to be three Christmas games this year.
09:09As we speculated yesterday, there would be at least two, possibly three.
09:12Netflix will get two games on Christmas, as has been the M.O.
09:17And then Fox will have the other one.
09:20So, we're going to get three football games on Christmas Day.
09:23Now, let's go to Sean Payton.
09:26In addition to making a fascinating comparison to flag football to the Wet Bandits from Home Alone.
09:33Remember, go back and watch Home Alone.
09:36That old man neighbor, he's Jesus.
09:39So, Sean Payton was talking about, check it out.
09:43Sean Payton was talking about NFL players being in the Olympics for flag football.
09:47He said, I think when it was first announced, there was this feeling that there would be like 10 NFL
09:52players on this roster.
09:54I'll be surprised if there's one.
09:56I think we have plenty of players that can acclimate, but it's going to take like a month or two.
10:01So, are you going to take the month or two necessary to make it happen?
10:05Or if you're the United States, are you just looking at the totality of it all and you're like, why
10:10would I not just stick with that team that was really awesome already?
10:13Yeah, I'd just stick with the team that's really awesome already.
10:15Exactly!
10:16It doesn't make any sense to the other side of it.
10:18Exactly!
10:19Jerry Jones spoke about a plethora of things, but I want to focus in on one specific thing that he
10:25said.
10:26Do you get the sense that Jerry Jones is for or against an 18th game?
10:29He's very four.
10:31He is very four.
10:32I think he's for a 24-season game or for a 24-game league.
10:36He'd take 30 if he could.
10:38He just loves football that much, Kevin.
10:40I think he loves money that much, but I appreciate what you're saying.
10:45Jerry Jones said, and I love the way he said this,
10:48my interpretation of the 18th game would be less preseason games.
10:52I like that.
10:53I think that's great for the players.
10:55Emphasize great for the players.
10:57How so?
10:58It increases the viability of the financial aspect, more gate, and more money for the players as well.
11:05Do they not share any of the gate from the preseason games with the players?
11:09I mean, and I would just assume the gate would be higher for regular season games.
11:14I want to know more about why fewer preseason games is great for the players since we've moved away so
11:20much,
11:21especially with the Cowboys from playing your starters in those games.
11:24And you're already doing less practice.
11:27So just the quality of the game is going to take a dip for a period of time in those
11:32first four games at least.
11:34Yeah.
11:35And then by that time, you might have injuries that have built up because you didn't even do the right
11:40things.
11:40So I see what he's saying.
11:43He's like, I don't even care.
11:44Just put the product out there.
11:46Let the fans have it.
11:47See, but he's a man of the players, Corey.
11:50I think it's a better application of their careers and talent.
11:53Less preseason, more playing in games that have the right balance of the financial rewards as well as exposure.
11:59I like that he added on NFL players really hurting for exposure nowadays.
12:03But I like it.
12:04He's just trying to help the players make more money.
12:07It's not.
12:09How much more?
12:10Maybe he'll make a little bit more.
12:12By what percentage will they make more?
12:13And by what percentage will he make more?
12:16They'll make 4% to 5% more.
12:19And him?
12:2015% more.
12:22Big number.
12:23Yeah.
12:24I mean, essentially, you're looking for a 14% profit in most situations.
12:28Like, that's what you're trying to get.
12:29So 15% there would be great for him.
12:31Yeah.
12:32And then for the ownership, like, you don't really have to do anything too much extra.
12:36Besides some logistical work.
12:38Whereas the players, wouldn't you make the argument?
12:41And I know Jerry Jones will not share this sentiment.
12:44But I would make the argument if you are adding, essentially, over the last several years, two games to every
12:49single season.
12:51Then isn't that eventually going to cut your career a year short every eight years?
12:56Yep.
12:57That's why I've been very adamant.
12:59If you want to do that, then the players are going to do one of two things.
13:03They're going to say, this sounds great.
13:04We're getting more money.
13:05And they're just going to agree to it.
13:07Or they're going to fight for more roster spots for other players.
13:11Or those are the two things that you need to fight for more roster spots.
13:15That being said, you do that, you could lose your job.
13:17There has been a little bit of a buzz that if Aaron Rodgers does come back, perhaps the Broncos would
13:24try to get in on that discussion as well.
13:27Which I think is really weird.
13:30I would not quite see the logic in that.
13:32And then let's talk about Ohio State.
13:34There's a possibility that Ohio State could have four players taken in the top ten.
13:45Name them.
13:46If that is the case, you name them.
13:49Okay.
13:49Caleb Downs, Sonny Stiles, Arville Reese, and Carnell Tate.
13:53Correct.
13:54If that happens, it will be the first school since Michigan State in 1967 to have four players go in
14:04the top ten.
14:05I hope that it doesn't happen.
14:08Exactly.
14:08I would like to see the Cowboys take downs or Stiles at 12, but hey, Jamon McCoy, the hype yesterday,
14:15Kevin.
14:16The hype train is hot right now.
14:18You're right.
14:18You are right.
