00:00Bobby, it's the Red Zone brought to you by Just Love Coffee here on Sean and RJ 105, three of
00:07the fans.
00:07Can I stay here with you? Focus.
00:09We're focused.
00:11Can I stay here with you? Yeah.
00:13Cool. Yeah.
00:14What time you start in the morning usually? First broadcast, first work.
00:19Oh, when it's... Not your walk.
00:21Oh, okay, because when it's a show like this, I start like 12 minutes ago.
00:24That's where my day starts. Depends if I'm on with you guys or not.
00:27I pulled the Eatman, and in a commercial break, I went up finally after 15 years.
00:33Oh, you went up there?
00:33I went to the Jerry Tower, and I was tremendously disappointed.
00:38What was disappointed? Just the view?
00:40There's no... They didn't even finish the inside. There's no finish out.
00:43It's... I almost tripped over this bear trap, like, weight that's down on the ground.
00:48I tripped on the video they just put out.
00:51We have an elevator right here, a Woolchuck Express, for the handicap.
00:57And I would have thought that they had a damn elevator in that tower.
01:02No. Some rickety old steps.
01:04Then you get up there, there's some bar stools in a corner.
01:06That's how Jerry keeps kicking, man. He's still doing the steps.
01:08He's getting his steps in every day.
01:10It's all, like, built-in bar stools like you would have in a pool.
01:13Sean, if it was super cool, everybody would go up there. You know what I mean?
01:16Yeah, we're super loud.
01:17So, yeah. So, I was disappointed, but I finally went up in the Jerry Tower.
01:21I just had to wait until dusk.
01:23So, nobody's there.
01:24Yeah, so no one's there.
01:25No one's there.
01:25To do it. What jumped out from practice yesterday?
01:29I'll tell you what. The...
01:32You know, it's funny because every time you want to say, like,
01:36man, the defense looks good, looks good.
01:38And they do. They look better.
01:40But it's going like I would want it to.
01:43Because you want them to compete more.
01:45Because you know the offense is good.
01:48But it kind of feels like, at the end of the day,
01:50the offense can do what they want to do.
01:52And that is a good thing, too.
01:54Because it's like, that's how...
01:55If there's any kind of hope and optimism,
01:57you know that that's going to be really good.
02:00And I saw that again yesterday.
02:02I just feel like, when they really want to,
02:04I think they're going to be able to run the football.
02:08Like, right in the interior.
02:10And now that's going to help your red zone stuff.
02:12All this talk about, can they fix the red zone?
02:15If you, you know, Nate Newton said it best the other day.
02:17He was just like, we could just run over people.
02:20And Moose was coming, and then Emmett was coming,
02:23and we didn't have any...
02:24Oh, they could run over people.
02:25Right.
02:25It's not saying we're going...
02:26No, but that's where he said it needs to get back to that,
02:29where the interior, between Tyler Smith,
02:33BB, Tyler Booker, Javante Williams, that physicality,
02:37and just run over people.
02:38And if you stop that, then you can throw it up to Pickens or Ferguson
02:42and CD and all that stuff.
02:43And yesterday, not only for Guyton, but he told you all, Zach,
02:46that time is now here for BB as well.
02:49Yeah.
02:50Yeah.
02:51Do we feel like BB hasn't...
02:54Not arrived, but...
02:56I guess because of the expectation, mentally, I'm like,
03:00BB has gone to where he's needed to before Guyton.
03:03And obviously, different expectations, but...
03:06Nate was saying that about Connor, too, right?
03:08Right.
03:09Yes, both of them.
03:10And I think that last year, Nick, it was really a lot of the stunts
03:14and the twists, the communication there.
03:16They had issues with that.
03:17That does seem like it's cleaner.
03:19In the run game, I'd like to think BB is strong enough
03:21that that's not an issue.
03:23Yeah.
03:23You know, and every time you kind of look at him and you say,
03:26he's, you know, he's not that big or is he that strong or whatever.
03:30But, like, you know, if you remember when they first drafted him,
03:33he was the term dirt and people, you know, from the guard position there.
03:38And I know his Big 12 is not the same here.
03:41But Stepnoski, way back, I just keep taking it back in the 90s,
03:44but, like, Stepnoski never was the biggest.
03:47It's just your technique.
03:48If your technique is where it needs to be,
03:50then you can move people out of the way.
03:51And I think that between, you know,
03:54sandwiched in between those two Tylers that were really strong
03:56and really, you know, just powerful in how they attack the defense,
04:01I think those three are going to be the center to all of this.
04:05I mean, obviously, he's the center.
04:06But, you know, the centerpiece to what they're doing.
04:08Nick Eamon brought to you by the Windstar World Casino and Resort.
04:11Proud to be the casino of the Dallas Cowboys.
04:13Please game responsibly.
04:15Jayshon Barham groin?
04:16Mm-hmm.
04:17Is this serious?
04:18Yeah, it didn't look like it was that serious,
04:22especially with the fact of him, you know, changing clothes,
04:26coming back out on the field, watching the rest of it,
04:28being back on his feet.
04:30You know, if it was that serious, I think that it would be one where,
04:34you know, he would be maybe already getting rehab and all that.
04:36I just think that day off at a good time for him, you know,
04:41does he go back and that Saturday workout, you know,
04:44that they'll be here and it's not a scrimmage, but it's the closest thing to it.
04:49It'll be, we'll televise it on our channel.
04:51So, but I don't know if he participates in that,
04:53but I don't think it was that serious.
04:55Bobby, give him your surprise.
04:57The CBC agrees or disagrees for the week that we've been here.
04:59So, for mine or start with the blogging the boys one?
05:03Yours.
05:03Okay, so on mine, there have been a couple different surprises,
05:05both good and bad.
05:06The first one is, we've been talking about this today.
05:09I have not noticed even standing on the field Malachi Lawrence at this point.
05:14It's been completely anonymous to this point for me.
05:17On the good end, it's, I've been impressed with Revel.
05:20I did not expect that Revel, with all the issues fiddling with the knee
05:24and looking like he had confidence issues last year,
05:26I was not expecting him to look as comfortable as he has.
05:28I think Durant's been a surprise, and then another guy in the second year,
05:32I think Julius Wood has been really, really good to this point.
05:34You were raving about him.
05:35Yeah, I got no issues with that list.
05:37He's so physical.
05:38Yeah, and I think Kobe Durant, every time you kind of think about this offseason
05:44when you're like, you know, are they really going to be better?
05:46Like, what did they really do?
05:48And then you think about that, that signing is always the one that I'm like,
05:52oh yeah, like, they got that guy.
05:53Like, that's a good one.
05:55And I think just like a needed piece.
05:58Just getting stability.
05:59Yeah, it's kind of like what they lost with Jordan Lewis.
06:02You know, they lost a guy like that, now they get him back.
06:05But Julius Wood, yeah, he's definitely, he's kind of a fun player to watch.
06:10Is the Malachi thing a little worrisome?
06:13Have you noticed him?
06:14Not really.
06:15No, I haven't noticed him either.
06:18But, you know, that will, he was drafted because he's an absolute freak.
06:26And right now he's probably just trying to figure out where to go, what to do.
06:31Once that clicks and he stops thinking so much, you know, it's, you know,
06:37I'm bringing back reference and all that stuff.
06:39But I, I mean, I don't know if DeMarcus Ware, like, set the world on fire when he first got
06:43here for, you know,
06:44he was doing some athletic things.
06:46But, you know, he was still, you know, having some issues here and there.
06:50And then all of a sudden, when it clicks, it clicks.
06:53Amir Speed, yesterday, the corner.
06:55I mean, if you're looking for some value there, my gosh, he stood out in a big way.
06:59He stands out because he's, I mean, what is he, 6'3"?
07:02He's huge.
07:03When he went up against Valdez Scaling, I was like, this is like a basketball game going on here with
07:12the two of them.
07:12Sure.
07:13Just really tall.
07:14But, no, Speed is a guy that's been noticeable.
07:18Not just because he is, he's pretty tall out on the corner.
07:22But he's, he's feisty.
07:23He'll make some plays.
07:24I don't know where, you know, there's not a lot of room for some of these guys here at corner.
07:29But he was like one of those late pickups, Amir Speed.
07:32But, you know, he's got some speed.
07:34And for his first size, I mean, he's just sitting there.
07:37I have to take it, right?
07:38What do you think about the way the linebacker room is shaking up at this point?
07:42Obviously, like, they're just banking on DeMarvin Overshaw and being healthy.
07:45Barham had the issue yesterday.
07:47They've added D winners.
07:48But, in general, when you look at the way that the linebacker room is shaping up,
07:53are you feeling any more confidence than you did when you first landed here in Oxnard?
07:57Yeah, I think so.
07:58I really do.
07:58I mean, because of the way Barham is playing.
08:01I mean, Barham is a guy that, like, is, like, pushing D winners and pushing for playing time.
08:05So, when that happens, and I think Shamar James will as well.
08:08He'll probably be that guy.
08:10Shamar James will probably be the guy that leads the team and tackles in the preseason, you know,
08:13because he's just going to be all over the place.
08:15And that's kind of his style.
08:18And he'll probably play enough to do that.
08:21But, yeah, I think between those four, you know, and I've heard the rumors of they're going to look at
08:27this linebacker or this linebacker,
08:29that wouldn't be the position for me that I would be like, got to go trade.
08:33Are we officially going Barham and not Barham?
08:36I asked him.
08:37Like, it's Graham, not Graham.
08:39I asked him.
08:40And I was scared to ask him.
08:43I don't blame you.
08:45Barham.
08:46Barham.
08:46Okay, so we're just going to accept that.
08:48He's big, so I can accept that.
08:49Like, Reggie Bullock, I refuse to accept Bullock.
08:52Yeah, I don't like that.
08:53We had consistency there for a while.
08:55Like, everybody said Flournoy at first.
08:56Then it was Flournoy.
08:58Then I started doubting it again because Shoddy has all of a sudden started saying Flournoy.
09:01Like, he transitioned to Flournoy.
09:03And then he came up here and he told us, no, it's Flournoy.
09:06So, I don't know where the Shoddy shift has come with Ryan Flournoy's name at this point.
09:09Yeah.
09:10Well, you know, we've had players where they've been here like eight years,
09:13and they tell us that you said our name wrong.
09:16Like, Ebenezer Okubon.
09:18Like, I thought it was just Ekubon.
09:19What?
09:20No, I'm sorry.
09:21Okubon?
09:22It was established a Carolina Ekubon.
09:24He said it, Okubon.
09:26He also, Chido, like, we said Awuzie.
09:30Yeah.
09:31Like, three.
09:31He says Awuzie.
09:32Awuzie.
09:33Awuzie.
09:33It's like a zh.
09:34Yeah.
09:35Awuzie.
09:35Yeah.
09:36Awuzie.
09:36So, and this isn't like this stage of the Barham.
09:40This was like five years into their career.
09:42And it's like, he says it differently.
09:45I'm like, I guess no one ever cares to, you know, those players never care.
09:49Like, yeah, whatever.
09:50Wow.
09:51It's like Travis Etienne all of a sudden.
09:53Etienne.
09:53Etienne.
09:53Yeah.
09:54It's Etienne.
09:55Yeah.
09:56Is Caleb Downs going to be more, I mean, very good.
10:02Yeah, he'll be good.
10:03All right.
10:03There's one person I spoke with out here, not with the Cowboys, but whose football opinion
10:10I trust.
10:10And he goes, I guess I'm the only one to say it that I feel like Downs is going to
10:14be
10:15overhyped.
10:15He's going to have problems with his height.
10:19And when I'm watching him or when I'm hearing about him, I am here.
10:23And we knew this in college, Zach, you especially were watching the tape as well, how good he
10:27was against the run.
10:28Lamb, CD, told us in the interview two hours ago, good luck against him with his run fits
10:34and all that.
10:34Do you think we're going to be talking about Caleb Downs versus the run versus Caleb versus
10:40the pass after his rookie season or more throughout the year?
10:44And if that's the case, how do we feel about that?
10:47They were super excited about that.
10:49That was the first thing I heard from people was the stuff at the line of scrimmage is
10:52really impressive.
10:53Yeah.
10:53And that's so that I mean, that was the top thing they were talking about before he got
10:56dropped.
10:56And are we fine with that in today's NFL, even though running backs are getting paid?
11:00I mean, that's something we would normally say about Jamal Adams.
11:03And I'm not saying he's not going to be good in coverage, but are we going to be talking
11:06about him more against the run versus what he does highlight wise against the pass?
11:11I don't think so.
11:13Maybe I'm having a hard time figuring out the question because it's early.
11:17But what I think what I think what I would answer to that is I think we're going to be
11:21talking about the fact that he lines up.
11:23He's where he's supposed to be.
11:25He's going to line himself up to get where he's supposed to be.
11:28If the height is a problem overall, then he probably will shift into more of a nickel
11:35corner type guy that you would play and you would want to be that that height.
11:39Like he's probably his football smart is going to take him to levels that is going to make
11:44him successful.
11:45So if he's going to be, you know, in the back end, you know, deep safety or he's going to
11:49be a slot corner or he's going to go in there.
11:51And, you know, I saw the video yesterday that you've seen it where he goes in there and
11:55Bobby put it out.
11:57Tyler Smith.
11:57OK, well, he didn't win that one.
11:59You know what?
12:00He shouldn't.
12:01He shouldn't win.
12:02And we would be talking about Tyler Smith right now if he did.
12:06Yeah.
12:06So that's that's but he any any covered you watch some cover tight ends in college.
12:12Yes.
12:12There's a height mismatch.
12:13Were you alarmed or taken aback by his height out here?
12:17And what's your in-person Downs report?
12:19He is smaller.
12:20I think for me, my vision is Troy Palomalo, another guy that played near the line of scrimmage.
12:26That's who he models himself.
12:28Yeah.
12:28And I think Caleb Downs.
12:30There you go.
12:31You know, that's just let him freelance.
12:33I thought at one point I thought Troy Palomalo was the best player in football.
12:37I mean, because you'd watch a Steelers game.
12:40He's flying over the top at the line of scrimmage.
12:43He just he was just guessing right all the time.
12:45If he had a buzz cut, would you have felt that way?
12:46You never would have noticed him.
12:49I don't agree with that.
12:50No, because he was he was at the line of scrimmage.
12:53He was he was he was a deep safety.
12:54Like her helped.
12:56This might be the shortest safety room in football.
12:58When you see P.J.
12:59Locke, Jalen Thompson, Caleb Downs stand next to each other.
13:01But it's whoa, those guys definitely are shorter than everybody else.
13:05That's true.
13:06It's always great to see you in person.
13:08Always great to get it.
13:09That's it, baby.
13:10We're on the plane.
13:11Well, they're on the plane.
13:13Sean and I are staying.
13:14I might stay back here with you.
13:15We're staying.
13:16We're bunking.
13:16Sean and I.
13:17Nick's like looking at Bobby like he's serious.
13:19Sean's ready to string.
13:20I need to get away from him.
13:20I know this.
13:21RJ's like, I'm out.
13:23No, he was staying.
13:24I love it out here.
13:25He has to stay.
13:26He has to go to the dealership later.
13:27I just bought a car.
13:28I just bought a car.
13:29He's got to drive it back.
13:30That'll be his next chore, his next instruction.
13:33Thank you, Nick.
13:34So still come out here, turn on the box, and talk to you guys out there.
13:38Hell yeah.
13:38You ain't going nowhere.
13:39You're in for the season.
13:40All right.
13:40Nick Eatman.
